with maxed dex
# May 05 2004 at 2:39 AM Rating: Excellent
-With 305 Dex- (calculating for proc per minute) , 41% Haste

This is the second highest DPS weapon in the game that most melee/hybrid classes. Although its highly vairable due to the random nature of procs (moreso than regular damage clacuations) over a short period of time.

In any case the top 2 DPS dropables for most melees is:

Ironbound Quarterstaff
Velium Gemmed XXX

With low-ish dex its the Velium series hands down.

The second "tier" below this, all very close in DPS are :

WMBS
Windblade
Scalecracker
Feartouched Greatsword
Heavy Windriders Lance
Blackend Greatsword

Also the quaterstaff goes in this list if your dex is mid 200 ish or below , putting Velium in its own DPS "class" IMHO.

If i had to pick just one out of all of the above, id probably go with ScaleCracker as the states are awesome and has 41% haste.

If you have your haste from someplace else, its a bit of a tossup between a lot of different factors. For instance, for my money Windblade beats the hell out of WMBS even though the DPS on WMBS is slightly higher, as WB has some great stats. Also the cost of the Velium stuff seems up in the air, i have only seen one of the Veliums for sale, ever on my server and it was set at 400k (not sure if anyone ever bought it)

Hey this was one hell of a quest lol...

Started with hiring a group of 5 people for 44kpp on fennin ro including my 65 bard which turned out all good intill we got into Relv's Forest and got ported into a zone with Burning Mephits, in a matter of seconds everyone was down cept for my bard who used FM to escape "the inevitability" but then that failed and we got totally whiped out.... **NOTE take 2 groups max or one good group with high end PAL SHD or WAR as MT MA. We attempted the quest again this time no whip outs but we ran out of time and got ported back.
no special drops just gems and partchments etc.

Few days later we attempted again with new melee and got the whole zone under 3 hours and the named spawned.... LOADING, PLEASE WAIT was the last message I remember seeing and that the dmg was minimum 1140 - 1600 max!

All of us gave up and I payed them their due cash... going to try for raid another time.

Wtf are you people even talking about this being the best 2hb? Best droppable 2hb for classes other then monk/bst? Sure (monks and beast have staff of flowing water) Best 2hb? Not at all. With 53/35, 60/38, etc. weapons out there this in no way compares. Sure it's still a great staff and I would love to buy one since I am not high enough or in a good enough guild to take the mob that drops this, but I have not seen ANY for sale since after PoP's realease. I saw a few right after the realease but since then nothing. As for the whole damage bonus I have hit for 1 damage being a level 58 paladin with well over 200 str and 1000 atk. Damage bonus from what I have heard and read is extra damage that has a chance to be added to the damage you would regularly do. So if you hit a max of 100 with this staff you could posibly hit for 112 max with the bonus damage.

everyone has their own opinion on the best droppable weaps..for instance i think Windblades are best droppable 2hs weaps while other people think that WMstaff is better, but this does rank high on the list...and as for the 60/38 weap you are referring to Vanazir, Dreamer's Despair and it is NOT droppable...BTW...you will hit for 200 w/ this weap...not 100...

Well i got it my self, This staff drops off Falto Lord of Thunder
He cons red to level 65, and triples for 1100ish, proc a 900DD, you spawn him if you do the quest that Relv the Mysterious gives you

Find Relv the Mysterious at +2200, +1600 in the forest area of Plane of Storms.

You say, 'Hail, Relv the Mysterious'

Relv the Mysterious says 'Greetings to you, small one. I see you have made great progress through our fair planar dwelling. Were it not for the dubious undertakings by someone. . . or something, I would be more than glad to welcome you here. Unfortunately, there have been dangerous tidings afoot. Just look at the trees around you. This destruction is the work of something altogether unseen, at least by me.'

You say, 'I am prepared'

You say, 'I am courageous enough to go forth'

Relv the Mysterious says 'As I had hoped. I regret that I have only enough strength to send four parties through the brush to the other side, and only one party at a time. When each party is ready to move forth, tell me that you are ready and I will make a clearing for you to go through. Be wary, my
magic will only last for three hours before you are pulled back to me, so do whatever you can before that time is up!'

A powerfully green aura surrounds Relv as he opens a small rift in the brushes beyond, then sends you and your party forth into the burning forest beyond.

At this moment your group is teleported to a open area where many blazing mephits and fiery mepheekas roamed. These conned dark blue to as well lvl 61 and lvl 65 characters, hit for 500ish, ,summon, were resistant to fire and gave approximately 1% AA per creature at lvl 65. They can be mezzed, charmed and slowed (enchanter slow).

You have three hours to pull and kill them all, then the boss, “Falto, lord of thunder” spawns. Kill him, and the raid looter picks up a Lightning Crystals and turns in to Relv the Mysterious for a reward.
Reward(s):

Ruby Pendant with a Gold Chain
Ironbound Quarterstaff

Dont know what els he gives, but one of those 2 items for sure

im curious how the dmg bonus on these faster 2h weapons is looking now that they claim to have increased the DB on them. It obviously will help make the faster 2h weps more viable, but by how much is it actually affecting them?

DPS for a war
# Apr 23 2003 at 11:25 AM Rating: Decent
Great weapon for a war that is not MT and wants to put out some dmg. With my windblade I parse out about low 80'ish DPS with this Staff, I pump out an avg of about 103 DPS. With a cold based DD spell as well this is a very nice weapon.

All that being said, I can still hold agro with it very well...

BTW the sig is wrong and I parsed all dmg info out at level 65

dmg bounes and dmg addation are two seperate things dmg bouness is based on wepon delay and lvl the magi dmg you refer to is ADDED to bas wepon dmg so a 10/20 with magic dmg 2 is actully a 12/20 as long as the mob has low MR if high it still only a 10/20. is like that with anytype as long as the mob has low resist to the aditall dmg it increses the base dmg of the wepon

I just read the top 2 and im not certian about anything with weapon dmg and the bonus, ive hit for 1 a few times with my Mithril Short Sword. Cant remember forsure but its 10/18 with 2magic dmg. I think it has a bonus too. Explain that..
RE: dmg
# Jul 16 2003 at 10:31 AM Rating: Decent
You can slash for 1 if...
the mob has a rune or something similar on it and you hit for 1 over the size of the rune or if you are wielding it in your offhand. Damage bonus is only applied in your mainhand. The other option is that you didn't eat your wheaties that morning.
RE: dmg
# Feb 09 2003 at 1:59 AM Rating: Default
Use a shield in the offhand and parse it for a few days. You will not slash for 1.

The reason 2HS kicked dual wield's *** so much in Luclin was because, aside from the fact that 50/40 beats the crap out of a couple 16/19s any day, the high AC meant that: higher minimum damage = teh Win.

The reason 2HS is still greater than dual wield is because we've gone from 16/19s to 17/19s, while 2HS has gone from 50/40s to 45/30s. No...contest.

# Feb 04 2003 at 1:41 AM Rating: Default
ok after a while i just started skimming thru these... and dmg bounes does not add to wepon dmg but min dmg as said and people telling them they wrong so if dmg is one dmg bounes is 12 you should do no less then 13dmg BUT critter and pc have somthing called mitigation and dmg absorb
so if the get high mitigation score or a rune like spell you Can still hit for 1dmg..... dont belive me go find a bard of your lvl preferbly one you know dule him have him do nothing the first time... second time have him only play the spell sheild of song compare dmgs youll find you hit lower more often when he plays song cause it absorbs some of the dmg with out adding HP or AC

Damage bonus
# Feb 03 2003 at 8:10 AM Rating: Default
Kesson your Wrong.

All a damage bonus does is give you a minimum hit.

Ie in this case it will be 1 + bonus (12) = 13. So this weapon will never hit for less than 13 damage.

The most important is ratio ... and not many pre pop items boast a negative ratio. If you were to actually parse this you would be in for a very big surprise.

at 25 delay and max hasted (no bard)your going to be doing 20 hits in 25 seconds .. ie your haste is reduced to 1.25 secs...

Now you tell me how many weapons boast 32/12.5 ...

You work it out.
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 03 2003 at 4:54 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) 1. Extremely low-delay two-handers, like this one, blow monkey chunks. A 50/44 windblade will beat the pants off this. This thing has a damage bonus akin to a one-hander, yet you are only attacking a maximum of 3 times per melee volley. This staff sucks.
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 03 2003 at 2:47 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) geez you need to change your damage color so you can see what is goin on

MrSniffles =>

Actually, Pathfinder is right. You hit for 1 because damage bonus does not apply to offhand. Your mainhand will never hit below 12 ( assuming dmg bonus of 11 ).

wouldn't the greater amount of chances for double/triple (knight's advantage, i think it's called) attacks caused by the low delay override a small damage bonus?

# Jan 31 2003 at 12:17 AM Rating: Default
This is not anywhere near as good as you think. If it was 1 handed yes, it would be that good but it's not.

See, in order for a weapon to get the massive damage bonuses we see on 2 handers that actually make them viable (some will argue that even with those bonuses, 2 handers are still behind) it must have at LEAST 28 delay.

A luclin era golden rod will still out damage this easily along with 99% of all 2 handers found in PoP so far. This weapon is not the best. It doesn't even come close.

Think about it. With the damage bonus, it is a 47/25 weapom. I believe at level 60, a weapon with 28ish delay will have 30 or so DB. So, 47 - 30 = 17. A weapon with a 17/28 ratio will hit just as hard as this thing only with .3 of a second more delay. I don't know the exact numbers on high level 2 handed DB but you get the picture.

In other words, a Tstaff will utterly destroy this weapon.

RE: Sorry but..
# Jan 31 2003 at 5:02 AM Rating: Decent
If you are so brilliant then why don't you tell me what's wrong with what I said instead of just acting like an ***.

Everything I said was true. Ratio isn't kind anymore. On 1handers it is but not here.

And yes, a tstaff will out damage this at level 55+. I guarantee it. I couldn't care less about weight or proc or stats, I'm talking pure DPS. Heck, a poison wind censor might even out damage this.
RE: Sorry but..
# Feb 02 2003 at 6:13 PM Rating: Decent
damage bonus is added on after the damage calculation.. the rough equation is something like

(weapon damage * multiplier) + damage bonus

close enough anyhow. The problem is that sub 28 2hb weapons don't have much of a damage bonus.... instead of being 2 or more times the damage bonus of a 1 hander, it is only a few points more, and it swings slower plus you don't get your offhand attacks.

TStaff is 29/30 and I giggle like a schoolgirl every time it procs. Yes, it's heavy. Bag it for the pull, whip it out for the melee.

He's right about one thing, the damage bonus is considerably higher when a 2h weapon has a delay >= 28.

Alabob is exactly right, and calculating the modals between this and the T-staff shows that this is a little better than a T-staff at level 60 (excluding the procs) but that advantage is cancelled out past level 61. Adding in the Procs however and the T-Staff wins even below 60 - not only is it 120 damage, it is unresistable (the stun component may not take effect, but the damage will always land - unless a higher level monk has landed it on the mob already :)) - whereas this Proc is 75 points of cold based damage.

With the damage bonus, this is *not* a 47/25. The damage bonus on a weapon is added after all calculations are made. So, if the damage is calculated as 16 without a damage bonus would be 28 after the damage bonus. The *only* extra added damage that is factored into the base damage of a weapon (the damage that is actually brought into the calculation) is that done by bane or elemental damage. So, if this were a 32/25 weapon with +12 magic damage, then, provided the magic portion wasn't resisted, the base damage would be 44/25. After this is calculated, and the damage is settled, *then* the damage bonus is added directly to the final number.

While it may be the best ratio on a droppabe 2HB, the Staff of flowing Water is a better weapon.

It's due to the current 2hb damage bonuses. See this one with 12 is actually like a 1HB bonus while SoFW has 38

the main reason i noted bsts was because they don't really get much of a dmg bonus yes its there and important but not nearly as important as it is for monks...bsts rely more on ratio

Another example of The Powers That Be not taking the time to do it right and/or being too lazy and just putting all the hybrids and melees in the mix (since rogues can't use 2hb either last time I checked).

There are several weapons that some classes can use even if they dont have the appropriate skill. My cleric wielded a despair needle, https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=6792 for example, when i wanted to go anon and disguise him as a rogue :p
The problem is your attack will be based off of your offense alone if you dont have the appropriate skill.
