Fabled Intricately Etched Seashell please
# Nov 19 2007 at 10:07 AM Rating: Decent
If/when they do Fabled PoP, I can think of only a few items I would be extremely happy to see. This is number one.

Since PoP, I have not found another item created with the same graphic; much less one with upgraded stats or as cool a name. The fact that it drops from a secondary named with few other interesting items solidifies its place as a fabled "shoe-in".

Now it is only a matter of time before I can have my green orb back!

(P.S. hoping for a Fabled Greatstaff of Power secondly, and though they most likely won't do the class specific clickies, a Fabled Orb of Swarming Death with a 2 second cast time would definitely entice)

FABLED EPIC 1.0's are also long overdue, but thats another story...
A Terrific Item

This piece is a fantastic drop. The hps and mana are on par with other high end EP drops, FT3 is nice and 30% to Fire spells is great for some classes, but it is the saves that are completely fantastic. 40 to CR and FR is incredible! Saves are so important at this point in the game and both FR and CR are very common AE types. The Circular Crystalline Formation from PoE is also very nice. A caster that could get both would be extremely well off in the EPs.

P.S. I didn't mention other stats on this item, as those tend to be maxed from other gear and buffs, but those stat numbers on this item are also quite good.

Why would a guild waste this on a druid?
RE: nice

What in god's name is that supposed to mean? This item would be excellent for a druid, just like any other class.
RE: nice
# Oct 20 2004 at 9:38 AM Rating: Default
Okay, let me explain why he thought we he typed. Not that a druid can't use this item, because they can. However a wizard or mage would benefit more from this item all around. Int casters get the best fire based DD's in the game. However, druids do get fire DD as well. 30% additional damage just may make the highest level druid fire nuke good enough to be used as far as mana/DPS comparrison's.

Yes, a wizard/mage can put it to best use. However any class that can use this would be putting it to good use just for the stats alone.

This shield is not ideal at all for a wizard due to its focus degrading 10% per lvl beyond 67. Wizards first new, big fire nuke is at lvl 68 so the focus effect on the shield would only be 20% with the new spell. Mages get their new big one at 67 and there is currently a new mask () that is Wiz only FT1, nice stats and focus works 25% to lvl 70 to cover the lvl 70 nukes as well.

Dropped tonight for my guild, druid took it while none of the wizards bid.
RE: nice
# Jan 21 2005 at 2:44 PM Rating: Decent
Right there is where you are ABSOLUTELY wrong deemus, and I'll explain why. Foci do not degrade 10% per level, they degrade 10% OF THE ORIGINAL FOCUS per level. At 68 this focus would be 27%. At 69 it would be 24%. At 70 it would be 21%. Compare this to ID5.
To expand on what everyone is saying, yes this item CAN be used by Druids, but show me one druid that uses fire nukes. Now show me one mage or wizard that uses fire nukes. Nuff said?

why would a cleric get this over other classes first? if you want it for Fury of Ro, keep in mind that our nukes are magic based, and Fury of Ro is Fire nukes only (Limit 11 in spell info). if you want it for FT and stats, i would personally go for
the Circular Crystalline Formation from A Perfected Warder of Earth in Plane of Earth, which has a dodge modifier as well.

make a long story short, give it to a class who can benefit from all the effects, not just some. and dont just jump on the first good item you see, do some shopping around and find out if there isnt something better out there for your class.

So says the cleric with the Affliction Efficiency IV shield.

you also fail to note that clerics DO get DoT's to undead. Yes, they're underpowered and rather mana-costly, but they're there.

And yes, at the time, I was soloing Luclin-era undead for some of my experience.

Writher your comparing his AE4 shield which comes from a tier 1 mini to a EP mini...big..big..big..difference.
Seems Clear
# Aug 28 2003 at 9:15 PM Rating: Decent
It seems clear that a Wizard would benefit most from this, and if a guild can equip all their wizards with this, that's a really big increase damage ratio: Strike of Solusek + this item + wizard maxed out on crits! WOW!!!!

NO peep from Cleric, Nec, Shammy or ENC for this kool stuff. Of course, while you guys are fighting and ripping each others throats and guts out, on who is the greatest class should get this awesome shield--give em to the quiet ENC with paper armor ac--who experience a lot more nerf then most class except NEC. Would diffinately solve the problem--that way you all can continue the eternal struggle and mayhem while the chanty walks off with the loot. =D YaY for the Chanty! I personally love the stat and Woot FT3 =D. 50 AC alone for Caster class is something to be hooting and shouting about.
RE: A pondering

With the mitigation of INT casters, AC is worthless. Avoidance is where it's at.

well if there was no fury of Ro I would love to have this item just for the flowing thought III and stats

but since the fury is there, wow, so many classes could use this, and druid with breath of ro could really do some damage
RE: even if
# Sep 02 2003 at 4:20 PM Rating: Default
Fury of Ro only affects instantaneous spells, not DoTs. So this would affect DD spells like Summer's Flame, Wildfire, etc...not Breath of Ro or the other fire based DoTs.

Look more closely at the focus effect description:
4: Limit: Instant spells only

there would NEVER be a time that i would prefer to use a mediocre magic nuke, or a weak as hell ice nuke over using fire
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 13 2003 at 2:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) also, what "weak as hell ice nuke" are you talking about? Ancient DoA and Ice Spear with iceflame on is some of the best efficiency youll ever see minus SoS, which obviously you cant use outside of powater and sometimes air.
RE: furthermore
# Sep 16 2003 at 1:04 PM Rating: Decent
obviously not elemental enabled.
SoS works in every zone in PoP but Sol Ro and Doomfire.
Don't forget that this is the only Fury of Ro item in EPs, an enchanter would expose himself to alot of hate if he'd take one of those somewhat rare shields already. And dont start with stats and that, only focus effects really mean anythin in EPsfor casters, you are at 355 int / wis easily as well as at 3k or way more unbuffed hitpoints - also there are alot of good secondary items that have better focus effects.

Also, yes. Icespear of solist and A:DoI are 2 very weak spells for DPS in PoP.
efficiency does not matter in these fights anymore, unless you have to use Lures to hurt the mob, you will hardly drop below 50% mana on a raid mob.

Wizards rely primarily on fire based spells just like a mage. we may have other spells but we only use them if the mobs are resistant to fire since that is our expertise, jus tlike how mages result to magic if they have to.....druids on the other hand are ice based casters and all ice focus items should be primarily thiers. all in all Wizards own with fire nukes, a fury of ro item add 900 damage to our nukes, and 500 to a mages so do the math. its primarily a wiz item, however it should go to whoever has the points to bid on it or is awarded it depending on how your loot system works
RE: pfft
# Jun 13 2003 at 11:59 PM Rating: Decent
Hmmm... "druids on the other hand are ice based casters" gosh I wonder if you could enlighten me on that point. The 1st attack spell we get is fire based. Our debuff spells are ac and fire based debuffs. The majority of all our other spells have a resistance check for magic, not cold. If I ain't dotting I'm blasting with fire or magic, not cold.
RE: pfft
# Jun 15 2003 at 2:41 AM Rating: Default
well druids at the level to aquire this are either using thier 65 nuke winter frost(which they wont use in plane of water) cause the mobs are very reistant to ice based nukes.so this leaves a druids 64 nuke summers flame(fire based ) to use in plane of water.so it would be very useful for druids to use also against the cornaiv script.druids never use magic based at 65 unless they are aeing.
yay
# Apr 16 2003 at 5:00 PM Rating: Good
was just awarded this the other night.
Been waiting for a fire dmg bonus effect for a while... (hated using Winter's Frost with Fury of Eci, then having to use Summers flame, with no bonus effect)
This is great for the fire based casters (druids/mages/wizards)... while Xegony's wand is great for the magic based casters (enchanters, wizards).. yeah.. wizards got it all..

For those that dont know, while it has a nice mini graphic of a shield, its actually a green glowing ball, with green particle effects. kinda nice, but I would have liked a shield more.
Oh well, with those graphics, you cant really complain. lol
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 27 2003 at 3:31 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Do clerics, shaman, enchanters, and necros even get fire based spells as a PRIMARY means of damage?

2740 dd for 640 mana .. even less if your lucky enough to have wizard elemental gloves wich have a focus effect of 25% mana preservation on strike of solusek only!

Mage before wizard or druid I would think...
# Jan 25 2003 at 1:01 AM Rating: Default
Yes I am biased, but I would like to point out Magican's spells are mainly fire based, where as wizards use many cold and magic based nukes. And druids are mainly cold and DoT to my knowledge.

Grats to whoever gets this.

Wizards are mostly fire and ice based. The only things we really use magic for are stuns. Which we don't use often.

The only real exception is Agnarr's. But after that is SoS, which is fire again.
RE: Mage before wizard or druid I would think...
# Mar 07 2003 at 5:52 PM Rating: Default
Druids are primarily magic/fire based; don't even get any cold based nukes until 49 or 50. Hell, even their debuffs affect only fire resist and not cold.
RE: Mage before wizard or druid I would think...
# Sep 02 2003 at 4:27 PM Rating: Excellent
Not entirely true. Druids get cold based rain spells at much earlier levels. As for pure nukes, they do indeed start at level 49 with the Ice spell. From there on, Frost, Moonfire, and Winter's Frost. As for debuffs, druids get the spell Fire at level 49 (it's AE, but still debuffs cold resistance) and at level 63 get E'ci's Frosty Breath, which is a pure AC and CR debuff. However, most of the debuffs are fire based, but there are some that affect cold. Only thing we can't really debuff is MR, but that's best left up to an enchanter anyway.
