It would be better to have more than a 100 hp rune cast on you everytime the thing procs but with a delay of 22 that thing will proc an awful lot in a fight and I'd love to have it:P

hopebringer = time drop
gem encrusted axe = elemental drop

Damage bonus is based on lvl
#REDACTED, Posted: May 05 2003 at 11:49 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) my guess is that if you're in elemental planes, you're probably 65.

Required Level 65, so who cares if damage bonus is scaled by level?
RE: ...
# May 09 2003 at 9:51 AM Rating: Decent
Yes, but the point is that dmg bonus is not specific to a weapon. Any 1HS will have the same dmg bonus for a Warior at 60. It will have a different dmg bonus at 65, but again, ALL 1HS WEAPONS WILL BE THE SAME!

2HS weapons have different rules. The dmg bonus is again independant of the weapon per se, but rather it is based on a step-function that involves the delay of the weapon and the class/level of the wielder.

Saying that "this weapon has an x dmg bonus" is useless information, since we all know EXACTLY what its dmg bonus would be for our characters, and it is not terribly interesting in terms of comparing two weapons (though the damage bonus progression for 2HS makes 2HS with delay of 40+ somewhat more appealing).

Hope that helps.
Nice weapon for MA and Raid
# Apr 30 2003 at 11:02 AM Rating: Decent
Got this little bundle of joy 2 weeks ago. This 1 hander puts out some really decent damage. I equip this over my Ssra weapon and Ornate broadsword as the damage is very close to comparable, plus get the added hps/acs when equiped with a decent sheild. Went to a PvP area with a sk of comparable equipment and she let me beat on her with all my weapons. She was running eq companion and was telling me this weapon beat all the others, which isnt a true test, but gave a good general idea of damage output.

On raids, I dont get over aggro like I usually do with the ornate broadsword and use this weapon faithfully in exp groups as damage mitigation is really helped with the runic. Clerics love me as allow them more mana to nuke or melee, other then the usual stand, complete heal, sit med.

This weapon, Im told, has the same visible graphics as the dain dropped axe frostreaver.

Awesome weap, but only useful when NOT MA
# Apr 25 2003 at 6:02 AM Rating: Decent
This weapon rocks, but would rot in my bag most of the time for one reason...it is too fast.

The only time I would use this is when I:

1. Was not MA and could stand behind the mob and whack the crap out of it.
2. Had no reason to cast spells regularly during a fight.

As a MA, every time I hit a mob it has a chance to riposte on me. Now, if I were able to get this weapon I imagine that I would be regularly fighting in zones with mobs who hit for 750+ damage (probably closer to 1000+). That said, if I am hitting a mob every two seconds, that mob has a chance to get a free riposte against me. As a Paladin with already limited HP, this is bad. So, high damage, nice and slow 2H weapons are what I want when MA.

If I have to cast on mobs, whether I am MA or not, this weapon isn't so great either. Every time I cast I stop swinging my weap, and that means lost DPS. Again, a nice slow 2H is desired in this case. Swing, cast, swing, cast. Usually the casting is with fast stun spells so I never lose a round of melee because my Windblade has a nice 44 delay. Even at max haste, I can cast any of my non-damage stun spells in between melee rounds which means I lose no DPS.

Now, if I am MA against a casting mob who I have to try to interrupt, both cases apply and I not only lose DPS due to casting, but I am taking more damage from ripostes when I do swing the weap so much more often. These two together are not a pleasant combo. As MA, I have two main jobs: hold agro, and take all of the damage. As a Paladin MA, I have to try to minimize the damage taken so the clerics can actually keep me alive. Using a slow weapon allows me to do that. Using a slow weapon with high damage allows me to do that AND dish out some damage as well. And like a post below says, the damage bonus on 2H weaps is unbeatable, especially from level 55 on.

Now, if I am not MA and i do not have to cast, this weapon would be in my hand in a heartbeat. Standing behind a mob means they can't parry or dodge an attack and I believe they have less chance to mitigate damage from behind. This weapon would destroy mobs. My chat box would be a sea of damage messages with pretty damn good numbers too.

Bottom line, awesome weapon, but only truly useful under particular circumstances.

Doesn't mean I'm not drooling though...

For starters if you are level 55 and in the elementals there's something very wrong. If you are in a guild where a level 55 Paladin is the MA you aren't in the elementals.

There are two routes for a paladin to go in his AA advancement. The first is to do the skills which increase your damage in order to makeup for the lower ATK we have because our combat skills cap at 225. These skills only apply to 2h weapons. Go this route and you wouldn't want this weapon.

However, the second route to go is to develop the AA skills which makes you a better tank, ND3, CS3, CA3, PE, LR5, ID5, etc. If you go this route this would be the weapon of choice because you can use a shield to bash and get the ac, saves, and stats from the shield to make you an even better tank. Paladins who go this route are often called upon to be Add Tanks a position which is needed frequently in PoP raid encounters. However, if there are no Adds to tank you don't have to worry about riposte. There's also no riposte on bash attacks.

This would be a great weapon for a paladin to use until his tank AAs were finished and he started working on the damage AAs which require a 2h weapon. I currently use a Blackblade of Rain and shield and will until I have most of the damage AA skills or get a better 1h weapon.

Your post has some truth in it. You will eat more riposte with the weapon. However if your winning drops like this your HP will be pretty decent (should be 8500HP+). So for XP mobs the riposte isnt that big a deal.

Your comments about casting are a bit weird. The combat timer is suspended when casting (this change was made over a year ago). So you resume your combat timer at the same point where you began to cast, so there is no difference in lost DPS between one weapon and any other weapon.

This weapon is useful in any circumstance, except perhaps where you are required to tank a very nasty mob (say something that hits 1500+).

I think this and the Earthen Blade (not sure on exact name) are perfect pally/Sk weapons. I would use both at varying times.

Hope I get a chance to win this one, I like the 1HS slash option, although I would have preferred a sword graphic to a moron dorf axe.

If you are so worried about riposte, just tank with attack off, in a raid environment pally DPS won't make or break you anyway, and as for agro, you can easily make up for the lost DPS agro with an extra stun or 2.

WTF cares
# Apr 04 2003 at 1:35 PM Rating: Decent
So the proc isn't too great? WTF cares, this weapon is the best 1hs in the game and has a better ratio then damn near all 2hs. Not to mention it has about 200+ hp with the sta figured in, 20ac and other stats and sv and can be used with an uber shield. So it ONLY procs runic...oh ****, we got a 33/22 1hs that hasted will be hitting near 200 with less then 2 second delay, but it only hase a a small damage absorption. People on these stupid boards have no lives and just look for reasons to *****, why don't you post some USEFUL information about the item or mob/zone it drops in.

Man ... When I First looking at the picture I was thinking it was a 2h with a ratio like that ...

I'm not a pally or a sk ... my question is ...

Is there a point of Having a 2h Weapon When You can HAve a Good ratio like that in a 1h + a shield/bash ???
RE: Arf
# Mar 22 2003 at 1:06 AM Rating: Decent
Yeah, 2Handers >>>> all 1Handers for the simple reason of DMG bonus.
RE: Arf
# Aug 20 2003 at 2:48 PM Rating: Default
Bah, run the numbers monkey. Agreed at this point (req 65) any Pal/SK should have a two hander that will outdamage this thing. Your post doesen't specify what season class you happen to be however. There are many one handers on the way through your seasons that easily outdamage two handers. If a weapon has twice the delay and twice the damage bonus doesnt the damage done by this bonus balance?

Killer ratio, killer stats, and if it procs frequently and builds aggro, a great overall weapon for the times a knight is MA.

/sigh Greenmist would go into the bank ;-(

i dont know about the rest of you non melee complaining about this but the way i see it, if it procs often thats 100 less dmg i end up taking. sure puts the SK/Pali on an extended def disc unlike warriors have. and its not discipline so no waiting for it to refresh. adding the 80hp heal on to it, it definatly compares to the warriors def disc. 180 more hps per proc is a decent proc to me. :P

A rune proc is much more situational than a healing proc (probably the reason you rarely see healing procs on weapons and generally only small ones). So in that respect this partial rune/heal proc would be less situational than a pure rune. Admittedly, the proc is not very strong, the combined rune + heal falling well short of Rune III at 230. The proc doesn't make the weapon however and you may not have been too far off in your comment about the good ratio balancing the weak proc not to mention the nice stats.

Yeah... hopefully they'll look at it again and at least slap Rune 3 on it... or something better.

Why does everything have to have insane procs. I like this proc as it sits now.
RE: Haha
# Jan 26 2003 at 3:37 AM Rating: Good
when i see peeps posting message about procs they always say this should have this proc and that should have this proc
why can't they think if they made everything uber, there would be no point, no challenge in the game?
RE: Haha
# Mar 10 2003 at 1:41 PM Rating: Good
This is a badassed weapon no matter what. The ratio is extraordinary for a 1hs, the stats are better than most weapons, and the proc is just for added comfort. Why bother with the tiny things in life? If ya really want more damage output use a 2h slash, blunt or piercer. But if ya think about it, combo this with an uber shield for even better AC, stats, resists, & effects. The biggest point is that everyone has their idea of what's better for themselves.
