Finally got mine today. Dropped off Quarm, had 2 drop tonight. Killed him about 20 times now. I know it's old content, but I've had bad luck. Heh =)
poor effect
# Aug 17 2004 at 2:31 PM Rating: Default
This would be MUCH BETTER if they put clicky BO9 on it instead of cold damage focus which is prety easy to obtain even at Tier 3 (droped by Agnar i belive)

I will stick to my Mail of Jugment from Aten Ha Ra even with loss of 100 mana, ist just not worth spending raid points on. and wait till i can get Galen's Tunic from GoD

This focus is the highest cold focus in PoP and is only on items that drop in Time. So no, you cannot get this focus effect from an item on Agnarr.

Hey I have a idea, lets all b*tch, whine, and complain like the warriors did around the PoT stone. Maybe if WE get on the GMs and game developers nerves enough too, they'll change the effect on the bp AND decrease the mana cost for Karana's Renewal!

Ok, this is a nice BP - not even bothering with the effect. Now the big question is .....WHY ARE YOU PEOPLE ARGUING ABOUT IT??? What's the point? How many of you really think you can even get into the Plane of Time to get the drop needed to make it? C'mon people - get real. There are still lots of other BP's that are easier to get to that you can argue over. But most important - THIS IS ONLY A GAME - NOT REAL LIFE. Go out and get some fresh air, I am.

So...an actual question about this armor...

Is the effect still Winged Death or is it Wrath of E'ci? Pic says one thing, but this thread is saying Winged Death. Please clarify. :)
RE: Effect
# Aug 30 2003 at 3:21 AM Rating: Decent
The effect is now Wrath of E'ci.

If you dont like the armor then DONT GET IT. If you have nothing better to do then bash armor in a forum about a GAME then you need to get out a bit more.

Notice all the storm wardens are saying this effect is crap, but the rest of the druids are saying its invaluable.

The point is, for a high level raiding guild like the ones we are in we dont have time or the care for soloing unless extreemly bored, so the stat is useless, and for raids, the rush on a mob hitting for 1400's and your worrying about putting a 2k dot with a 10sec or more cast time on it when its got 400k or more hp?

For soloers, grats, but you will never see the BP.

For us raiders dreaming of it, the stats are all i need, i doubt i would ever even click it.

Umm guys a manaless 143 hp dot..is insane .... Can you image 5 druids with these stackign dots.
hey, i know
# Jun 03 2003 at 2:31 PM Rating: Default
Think peoples, the effect on this tunic is meant for soloing. duh. okay, now what you all are forgetting is that ALL of the swarm type dots that us druids have stack. this tunic will save you a spell slot. That's the purpose of it. :)
heh
# Apr 30 2003 at 3:46 AM Rating: Default
wowsah 54 druid dot clicky, swarming death woulda been a lil better.. depending on the cast time this might be useful.
Druid armor effect
# Apr 29 2003 at 6:35 AM Rating: Default
Actually they couldnt have put a more USELESS effect on druid tunic. The druid that can get Elemental armor is a RAIDING druid who doesnt even need epic anymore cause he got better, not a soloing sob. Mana free dots on druid are totally USELESS on raids.
And to put it bluntly... druids of that caliber dont solo for exp much anymore. Only when you are dead bored and dont want to watch TV / go outside. (Or you're obsessed with AA and want to be #1 in EQRankings!)

Blessing of Replenishment would have been a good effect in that armor and actually useful.

Hey, I have an idea. Why doesn't Verant create a line of gear that is all/ all with 50 to all stats and 200 ac, 20 to all resists, and 300hp/mana, with uber effects, wearable in every slot? How cool would that be?

SOE doesn't create invincible end- of- the- line gear because then what would be the point of continuing xp'ing and raiding? SOE doesn't make end- all gear so everyone has something to look forward to, so don't bash the gear that isn't there yet.

Er, he wasnt bashing. Everything he said is dead on. Who in their right mind would dot during a raid when there are gimp rangers to heal?

I play a 61 druid in a raiding guild and I can assure you that DoT's are quite usefull when your going after some high HP mob (VaDynn comes to mind). Tactic in a nutshell- Clicky epic, bracer, and winged so you get the damage without the agro. The damage is ticking leaving plenty of time for heals and back up heals for the MT. DoT's dont generate nearly as much agro as straight up nukes.
RE: Druid armor effect
# Jun 09 2003 at 2:14 AM Rating: Decent
Possibly, when you need a full raid force. Last time we did VaDyn it was 5 manned when camping VT shards. You're level 61, and not to be rude or anything, but nowhere near any mob that will drop Any EP pattern (does the Tunic one even drop? I dont think so). Any druid who is in a guild that has even a remote chance of getting EP patterns has other things to worry about than Dotting during a raid. Hello, Ro's fire debuff anyone? Cures? You get the idea. Would you rather dot a mob, for a measly 20dps (i didnt bother to check what WD comes out to be, because i dont care)? Or make sure you're patching your tanks to keep your raid alive? Personally i'd rather do the latter. I stand by my statement that for other than solo play, the effect on this tunic is worthless.

Actually it rocks
# Apr 27 2003 at 6:22 PM Rating: Default
This effect rocks, i mean think of this, Immolation of ro, This, epic dot and the 63 dot (forget name) ull rock, very nice dmg as well, very usefull as well, why use a extra slot for this spell when ya have it on yer 30 wis tunic???
Torn between sides
# Jan 23 2003 at 9:27 AM Rating: Good
From a group/raid point of view, i can see how the change upsets people.
Free BoR for your group... especially in a raid, where at times, mana can be hard to come by, having free BoR is invaluable. That saves about 800mana that you could use for a heal or a couple nukes.
Winged death effect is pretty much a solo effect.
That is great during the times a group cannot be found.
However, the druids who are able to obtain this caliber BP will be raiding much more than they will be soloing.
Will the WD help? yes... for them, with BoR help them more? very much yes.
RE: Torn between sides
# Jan 24 2003 at 7:29 AM Rating: Default
Actually the effect wasnt' changed, this is ELemental armor, the BoR is on the Ornate armor Tunic
RE: Torn between sides
# Feb 20 2003 at 2:32 PM Rating: Decent
yeah.. actually if I remember, it was first instated with no effect, then WD was added to it a short time after.
But what I posted about the effects still ring true in my opinion. They should have added a more raid-useful effect to it (Blessing of the 9 would be nice.. FREE bot9! hehe)

hmmmm.. free winged death or free blessing of replenishment.. **** it i'll take the free dot and cast the group buff that lasts for 30+ minutes 1 time

let's see instead of kiting/dotting 1 mob at a time.. if im doing all my spells mana free.. i can do .. hmm.. 3-4.. at same speed..

hell if you ask me that's kinda unbalanced.. it'd be like wizard elemental robe right clicking ice comet at 10 second cast time..

but that's just my druid sense talking

"hell if you ask me that's kinda unbalanced.. it'd be like wizard elemental robe right clicking ice comet at 10 second cast time.."

Except for that fact that an Ice Comet would deal instant, direct damage, while the Winged Death would take 9 ticks to deal its full damage and deals no instant damage whatsoever, negating any advantage from chain-casting.

It's a real stretch to compare a 1120 point nuke with a 1287 point dot over 54 seconds. I think this effect is solid for the difficulty of the quest, but not even close to being "unbalancing," especially when compared against the effects from some of the planar armor of the other classes.

Are you nuts? This rocks!!

Sorry to have to disagree with you, but this is probably one of the most awesome druid items in the game. As all druids who do any serious root dotting know, this is an invaluable spell, but kinda high in mana cost, so it's hard to constantly pull one mob after the next. Now with this item, we can throw a winged death, an epic dot (if you got it) and a drones of doom (also mana free if you got some ES vambs) and all for ZERO mana cost. thats roughly 3,000 points of damage for the mana cost of your root. THANK YOU VERANT!!!!!!
wtf
# Jan 18 2003 at 8:17 PM Rating: Decent
Ok this effect is a level 53 dot for us. All the other armor has effects of spells 61+. The original effect on this bp was blessing of replenishment. WTH did they change it? the ornate bp has effect replinishment on it. I would rather use the effect on that bp than on this one. So frickin lame that they changed the effect to some dot. Group replinishment is more useful
RE: wtf

Don't exptect much sympathy from enchanters... The Kael/SS robes for enchanters has a Rune IV for an effect (level 44 spell!), while dr00ds have Regrowth of the Grove (a lvl 58 spell!) As another point to consider is that by the time an enchanter gets the Kael or SS robe, they already have Rune V, which uses the same component as Rune IV. So... Quitchabitchin and just be grateful they didn't downgrade it to Stinging Swarm.

Heh, historically, druids have always been shafted on armor stats and clickable effects. The old world druid planar armor (Vermiculated) was truly pathetic, even at the time of its inception. Most of the pieces had crappy stats that weren't really useful to a druid, and they had the AC of banded armor. The armor set's only redeeming value as a whole was its fancy green appearance, which many druids coveted just so they wouldn't look like newbies at level 50. There was already better stuff in the game for druids prior to the planes' release, much of which druids could solo camp for.

Then, with the advent of Kunark, we saw some amazingly useless effects put on our armor. They include old favorites like Super Camo on the helm (level 19 spell with low mana cost and cast time), Share Wolf Form on the bracer (level 39 or so, but it's a cheap spell to cast anyway, and the bracer has a huge cast time), the Snare gauntlets (Snare is a level 1 spell, lol -- it costs all of 15 mana to cast, and the cast time on the gaunts is twice that of the spell), and the boots which cast Levitate with an inordinately long cast time and require a bat wing. :P Bear in mind that most of this armor has about the same AC as bronze, save for the rare tunic which has more, and the arms, which actually have less.

This was in an era when Warriors were gaining good utility spells from their armor like invis, Str, and limited self-healing, and Clerics boasted a spectacular CH on their breastplate (prior to its eventual nerf). Even paladins could use their armors to heal themselves instantly and solo almost anything, again until its nerf.

By contrast, the Druid Velious quest armor tunic is actually the first piece of armor for druids that has a halfway decent effect coupled with good stats -- ever.

Please, don't begrudge us the first good piece of armor ever to be granted to us in the history of the game, lol. Particularly in light of the fact that it didn't arrive until about 2 years after the game went public.

It's actually 1287 damage over 54 seconds. A very nice little mana-free dot. About as nice as every other stat on the armor. My hat's off to whomever ends up with these incredible suits of armor.
not to shabby
