These pants are once again useful in today's current game. The "must equip" requirement is gone and with the recent UI / hot button change, you can chain click these for great agro reduction.

Are these still the "most usefull pants for a wiz in EQ?" I say so. Some very interesting points on both side on graffe.

Unless they've changed something, Concussion only lowers aggro by 300, not 400.

Ancient: Greater Concussion lowers aggro by 600.

It has been proven that a concussion resist still lowers aggro, so resistances do not matter.

Using concussion in a battle is for starting at 99% with the tank.. assuming your mana pool can hold up until the mob is dead. Otherwise, you might as well start at 70% or so and just chain nook.

well, if you think about it logically.. Every detrimental spell in the game will create aggro even on a resist (atleast it used to, before I retired), it would only make sense then that aggro is still uneffected by whether or not THIS spell actually took effect, a bug? maybe, but that's how it's coded. Should never of even been questioned imo

I can tell you in Fierona Vie I've never seen a tank that could hold agro if you chain cast yer mana bar with Strike of soluesk back to back. Have you? Please post the magelo :D

Dudes, I see a major difference when on Ikk raids, Time raids and even kiting grps in HoH or PoF. Without concussion , there is no way you can lay down the DPS that a wizard with concussion can. I would love to see the Chain nuking using SoS and not using concussion in BoT or anywhere and not get agro. You will pull agro and potentially die. Timing is important, but my DPS increases greatly with the use of concussion. I have SCS AA's but still get agro if I chain cast about 3 or 4 SoS without using concussion. I dont see how anyone who has played a wizard without it and then got it can honestly say they see no difference. BLAH!! Concussion is as important to me as my main nuke.

True some encounters like Warlord Gintolaken or however you spell his name in PoEB he is very ressistant so I dont even cast but when it comes to most situations Concussion is a very large help.

"Any wizard that doesnt have concussion by atleast level 60 is an idiot, or just plain lazy. "

actually, the case may be that due to faction issues, it is not possible for someone to acquire the spell. As a Dark Elf that hunted in KC, I unknowingly screwed my faction beyond repair. Around level 60 when I realized it was time to get this spell, it was too late. Another DE wizard in my guild had the same problem. So getting these pants was a godsend for both of us.

you can kill goblins in LOIO to up your faction, and do the quest in Firiona Vie as an evil character. i know people who have. you can also use illusion potions to help some.

Any wizard that doesnt have concussion by atleast level 60 is an idiot, or just plain lazy. I always have concussion in my line up regardless of where I am. Now with LDoN it's even more critical because of the DPS needed, if you don't have concussion you cannot possibly maximize your DPS. In LDoN adventures I frequently pull agro from tanks dual weilding weapons such as SoD+BoC, without concussion I would be dead or the cleric would raun out of mana very quickly because I like to average 5k dmg per mob and thats simply not possible without concussion. Try droping SoS on a mob at 70% and then sitting...LOADING PLASE WAIT, then do the same thing except use concussion (maybe twice depending on tank) and notice the difference, sure you lose effenicy, but I'm talking about LDoN where DPS is much more important. In raids concussion simply allows you to do more damage in less time without fear of getting chewed up by a mob that eats through your epic in a single hit. Those of you that claim to chain nuke raid mobs are 1 either lying or 2 consider chain nuking to be a draught spell every 5 seconds. Sure I suppose that counts, but ask yourself "Who is being a more effective raid member, the wizard using a draught every few seconds or the wizard that is casting SoS with a concussion or 2 inbetween?" I know who I'd put my money on. Another point, concussion works regardless if it's resisted or not, those who use it know this. Concussion will not only get the mob off you, used wisely will keep the mob from ever attacking you in the first place. Any wizard can do decent damage without getting agro. A skilled wizard will go out of his way (stupid concussion quest) to maximize his effectiveness in any situation.

Ask yourself, "Do I want to be a skilled wizard, maximizing my effectivness?"

If yes, get concussion, use concussion, join the ranks of those that know WTF they are doing and are doing it well.

If no, stay mediocre, keep saying to yourself "It's the tanks fault, I know how to manage my agro". You may be a damn good wizard, but unless you use ALL resources available you will never maximize your potential.

In response to the above post, and to the below post about not knowing your class...

Concussion is vital. I agree.

Those that pull agro from the tank... snap happens ON OCCASION. However, if this is a common occurance, then by all means, the below problem is just that, a problem. However if there is no intent to pull a mob off the tank, and the person is using concusion, then yes... the person is doing thier job borderline well. Those who do it very well don't pull agro at all.

These legs would never be changed out if they were mine.

You people need to simmer down.

No, you don't NEED Concussion. I lasted fine until level 65 without it. But you spend a decent amount of time pacing your nukes to prevent aggro. All well and good if you have a small mana pool and run oom anyway.

Thing is, not everyone wants to sit around and not be doing DPS for the sake of aggro. In the time you're sitting waiting to time that next nuke, throw in a concussion or 2 or 3, and your DPS without getting summoned rises rapidly.

So no, you don't NEED Concussion. Is it useful to be able to do more DPS on high end boss mobs where the key isn't always a slow steady fight, but a well-paced burn? Hell yeah.

Edit: And for those of you who say all it does is refresh a spell gem, I'm afraid you're mistaken. Item clicks have zero refresh time. Every spell makes the spell gems dim out briefly afterwards. You can chain cast the legs faster than the normal spell. Anyone who says this effect sucks is horribly mistaken. They're the best silk effect of all of them. I'd rather be able to Concuss faster, than summon modrods, or cast single-target haste, or an obsolete DoT. It's a nice change from the pure shaft we got on Ornate Legs... Decession!?!?! I haven't used that spell since the ToV days =\

There is no "need" for concussion/greater concussion. If you don't have it, it will lower the amount of damage you dish out over the course of an elemental fight, but waiting until the proper time to chain nuke can be as effective as using concussion.

It also depends on how far your MT/MA is above everyone on the agro list. Agro is a points system. If you chain nuke to the top of the agro list you get summoned. Concussion can prevent this from happening, but is not necessary for survival, only necessary for maximum damage.
Umm Whaaa??

One raid High use concussion..plain and simple. You dont? die. Which is less dps for your guild.
You get aggro?.You take the chance of wiping the raid.
FYI not all mobs will summon you..some just turn to look at you..and AE wipe half the raid in one cast because you got aggro.
Its true, in some situations, a wizard can pull aggro from the MA.If you do your useless, your job is to nuke without getting attention and nuke cannot do this highend without concussion..even when resisted it is documented concussion STILL lessens your aggro.See Graffes I emplore you.
Most Wizards in my guild can Chain nuke SoS and never once get aggro over think this is luck?.Nope its concussion.
Simple if you're in Elementals and dont have Concussion're wrong IMO, and a detrement to all who are with you.
And you're crazy to think that because you got aggro over your MA that you're MA sucks LOL..thats just silly..SSRA is to Elementals/Time as Orc1 is to're gonna be the most rezzed wizzy in VT my friend :P~(let alone Elementals).
And for the guy saying Bards dont get aggro hehehe welcome to a change in life bro..come sing a song in elementals and I bet you'll see Loading please wait..long before you get to that Second verse..even with Chorus of Marr.

/agree Gglak.

I have not yet met the tank (war, SK, or pally) that I could not get aggro from if I want.

If you are not using concussion, you are simply not doing the DPS you should be.

RE: Umm Whaaa??
# Oct 11 2003 at 10:40 AM Rating: Good
Yeah I agree for chain nuking SoS, but Draughts, no concussion needed. On Fennin Ro(where SoS is not possible), I began using Draught of Lightning(because I have magic nuke focus item) at 85% and didnt stop until he was dead. It did get resisted a few times, but the hat modifier is less than Lore spells so you can chain nuke away.

Now on to my main point. When concussion gets resisted, people like to say it reduces hate anyway... That is not true, what reduces your hate when you get a concussion resist is that while you were casting it, the time it took for your spell gem to come back up and the time it takes you to cast another spell more taunting, attacking, proccing from the MA is occuring, so of course the mob cares less about you, it is not the spell resist that did it directly, if that was true, it wouldnt be a resist.

Naaaaa, sorry...
Tests have been done by so many wizards, it's just plain silly to even have to bring it up any more... Besides the fact I have been using this spell since not too long after it was introduced and have seen way too many instances of the mob turning even though it was resisted...
Sure, if it was an isolated case here and there, I would tend to agree it was timing that caused the mob to turn. However, I have used the spell probably thousands of times maybe even more and I see multiple times a day where the mob has turned after resisting a concussion...
Anyone who says different needs to actually pay attention a little to the monitor when they play the game. Not to be confrontational, but it is rather obvious if you have used it extensively...
Concussion Has It's Place
# Jun 13 2003 at 11:46 AM Rating: Decent
It's situational and understand that. If you don't need it, don't use it. If the situation warrants, do so. In VT or other encounters, our wizzies occasionally get summoned, but they simply walk away and refresh their epic rune.

My wizzie has concussion and I'm VERY happy he does. I have a bard (Sony designed them to NOT get agro) and have to sing my dots when I'm botting my wizard so I can keep agro from him (wizzie 15 levels lower, bard is 65). I cast concussion after the first and third nuke... after that, agro has been established well enough that the mob never looks at the nuke-chaining wizzie over the bard's shoulder.

So... for me, in a duo-bot situation, concussion rocks. For our friends on raids, it means a waste of a spell slot. On 60+ level encounters, if you get agro more than once, all you need is a rez, not concussion.
RE: Concussion Has It's Place
# Jul 12 2003 at 11:27 AM Rating: Decent
Concusssion does have its place, and its mostly in end game EQ. An obvious example is Rallos Zek the Warlord. I always end up with mana left over because of the amount of DPS everyone is putting out on this mob, we have some of our clerics even nuke. This is where it becomes a matter of how much damage you can put out w/o pulling agro. With my focus effects, bard song and average crits mixed in I can float around 1k DPS. You better believe that I can pull agro off our tank w/ Blade of Carnage and Bloodfrenzy in a very short amount of time, even w/ SCS3. So, its all about managing your own agro.

No you don't "need" this spell to be a good wizard or kill big mobs. Playing a 61 Wiz on Zeb server and my guild is in no way uber. Haven't taken on any of the big Luclin mobs and hardly any of the old world ones either, so granted, some of this will be speculation.

From my experience however all the guys posting that this spell isn't needed are correct. If you pull agro from the main tank while killing a raid type mob you nuked too soon, and besides I find consussion is resisted far too much on the higher end mobs I have gone up against (Yes yes, only Trak and Vindi but still. Agro works a lot the same way just at other proportions), even when debuffed.

To me concussion works best in the regular hunting grounds where mobs have lower resists. There you can make the difference between a group wiping or pushing through because you are capable of chain nuking with concussions thrown in to take down a mob very fast should your slower and/or mezer bite the dust early on. The low mana cost and fast cast time makes the spell very useful situationally, but not a must have. It is however nice to be able to have a tool of your own when fighting in pickup groups that you don't have 100% knowledge of how to work with. I quite oftenly end up having snare duty and concussion allows me to snare and flux early and then drop 2 agro reducers on the mob, knowing full well that when I sit down I have a pretty clean sheet and can start nuking at regular levels without drawing agro.

Well, just my opinions. I for one love the spell, but it is just a tool that works well if it fits your play style. And besides, the quest is not as hard as people make it out to be, you just need 1 or 2 friends for the CoM piece and the rest can be done solo with good planning.

concussion reduces agro. Less agro means you can nuke more. Nuking more=more damage. Therefore, if you don't use concussion you're not maximizing your damage. I start nuking at 99% on most raids, concussions and nukes used together right means you do more damage than the guy who thinks "concussion isn't needed".

A wizard who doesn't use concussion is a wizard who doesn't want to do his best. There are fights in the game where you kill him before he kills you means you have to maximize DPS. Concussion IS needed to maximize DPS. I've fought with tanks with time gear that I can take agro off of without it so don't say I need a better tank. Time geared paly generates alot of agro, a wizard can generate more :).

Ive raided just about ever place that can be raided on E'CI ive never once died b/c i pulled the aggro from the MT! if the MT gets slaughtered then thats a different problem, but if your MT cant keep the aggro especially in any of the planes then you need a new tank! Yeah i can pull the aggro off of just about anyone.....just know how to use your nukes and you never ever have to use this spell!

It's actually a wizzie quest spell from Kunark era. It is a particularly complicated quest so I don't know a lot of wizzies who have it. Not that these leggings are easy to get either, but it effevtively knocks you down a few steps on the hate list. An excellent effect to add IMO, since it has been underutilized in the game.

Why is that? Any tank that can't keep taunt off a wizard blasting all his/her mana is the joke. You are not going to have high end raiding if your warrior has a wurmy and definace. Basically once 95% is up it's time to keep mana bar and mob hp bar about the same, it should keep you safe. I've killed all the Velious mobs and many SoL with my guild and I don't have this yet, and I never die from a boss type.

Actually it depends on the quality of your guild. I'm currently a 62 wizard on Cazic Thule server and I don't have concussion. Therefore I've never used it. As well, I've never seen any of the 65th wizzies in my guild use it, on anything. We're finishing up luclin by hitting the Emperor of Ssra now. When we do our nuking, we can chain cast our spells and waste our entire bar of mana without drawing aggro. If we are fighting Arch Lich or Cursed, I can powernuke all of my 4k mana out and never even get aggro for a second.

If you are using Concussion after every spell, you are wasting mana. If you are in a guild where you have to use Concussion on a raid, then your guild either has crap strategies, or your tanks suck horribly. If you're in this position, I recommend telling your guild leader to work on beefing up your tanks, and figuring out how to manage aggro.
