WHY DOES THIS HAVE A DAMAGE BONUS LISTED ???
It IS ONLY usable by caster classes and they DONT get a damage bonus.
Somebody just felt like adding a useless, meaningless line of text ? LOL
That could (and SHOULD) be removed.

Seen a couple in Bazaar going for 14,000 & 17,000 on Povar / Morden Rasp.

Because you see a damage bonus when the item is linked to you (If you are a melee class, that is). All weapons have them, it's in the code, not applied to a single weapon at the time of creation.

If you still feel it's a *****-up on Sony's part (which it isn't), learn to calm down, -not- hit the Caps Lock key, and count to ten. Stuff like this is in the code. Deal with it.

I see Enchanters meleeing often actually, with that piercy that siphons mana as a proc. Quite useful actually.

Just in case you wanted to run around looking like a melee dual wielding.

In response to shadowhawk.......
Chanters can melee rather well, if of course they are geared up correctly. I have melee'd my chanter all the through her levels. She melee's every mob and yes occassionally she gets hit and she just shrugs it off. I wear a rune shield which absorbs a huge amount of damage. Very rarely do I need a heal, as I seldom need assistance from a cleric when meleeing (that is one of the main contributing factors to my efficiency). More importantly, as a chanter you need to be up front - that is why you have rune sheilds.....as for sitting back and nuking, the big nuke damage comes from mages and wizzies. Chanters main task is to control the mobs and you can't do that whilst sitting on your butt in the background. In between mez's I can help dish out damage, whilst preserving mana for group buffs, mez's etc. My character has haste items, lots of strength, A/C, HP's, agility etc.....she is dressed to kill!!

only chanters i know that think they can melee are dead ones , not trying to bash you but i think you may be giving new people a false impression of chanters

chanters rarely gain aggro unless they want to. The mob rarely notices the 50 dmg being dealt by the chanter when the other 6 guys are dealing well into there hundreds. I have to try pretty hard to get enough aggro for the mob to hit me once. Mostly this involves root and nuke upclose, my rune protects me from the first hit after that my pet attacks and i back away instantly losing aggro.

The point being ur better off throwing in a nukme and medding then to waste time throwing your puny lil dukes at a 30k hp mob

This is very definitely primary only. It still rocks IMO and I use it in preference to a Zheart and epic. Sure would have been nice if it was secondary though :/

RE: Your right is nice to save mana
# Apr 20 2003 at 1:25 PM Rating: Default
hmmm, Im thinking you shouldnt be worried about what melee you are going to do with either of those characters and a lot more concerned about what stats you have here and now. As 63 mage the question of nuke for 2300, or melee for 50 never even enters my mind. Consequently, it takes longer for me to melee 50 points of damamge then it would to actually nuke a mob to death. You hold a weapon in your hand for the juicy stats, not your ability to kill stuff with it : )
Hmm....
# Jan 13 2003 at 7:36 AM Rating: Decent
I can't see why anyone would make such a big deal over this weapon, true that it has decent stats and the sta is really nice for a caster. But its true that we dont see much of the tanking side of melee combat, but should we be counted out totaly when having fun with a weapon??? I think not. If that was the case then i would just trade my drakel wolf claws for some other weapon but its fun when i hit mobs in the back and get mana in return, this weapon having really nice dmg/del ratio dosent mean we should not have our cake and eat it to.

i think this item is great for casters if i could get one i would give to my lvl 27 enc due to the fact that at low lvls enc really have no chance at surviving a duel wielding character of the same lvl trying to pk them or multiply toons on them for that matter.... thats if i could equipt it since it is recomended for 56....nm.... i guess when i get to that lvl i could give it to my pet though :)
ahem...
# Jan 12 2003 at 2:05 PM Rating: Decent
All I have to say is...what the hell? I know there won't be any casters tanking with this dagger, but it has a better ratio than the acrylia handled broadsword that drops off sra...and this is tradable. And if I'm not mistaken (I didn't research too much into it) the acrylia handdled broadsword was the best 1hs weapon in the game before PoP...now that's saying something...

What does everybody think? I know weapons are considered uber due usually to their ratio/procs and aggro producing...but this is casters only. Does Sony really need to make it an uber MELEE weapon? why not make it suck and just boost the stats, or give it a clicky effect casters would like? or a focus effect instead of having it 16/18...I mean, is a caster EVER going to melee by the time they can get this dagger?

Yah yah ... another uber INT caster only melee weapon ... big whoop.

Like over a year before, something like this may have raised concern. Currently, there are dozens of this uber-caster melee items. But, there are also a lot more pure melee weapons that are out, so much a lot that their sheer number eclipses the uber-caster ones. And the INT casters can never compare to the melee abilities of those meant to fight.

I am surprised that not many pure casters are speaking up for items that are ... I dunno ... useful?? Like something clicky that MGBs Virtue ... or shoots Ice Comets ... or changes any target to a Froglock.

Let the casters get the big bad weapons, armor and haste ... it will probably make them tank a little better than a naked ranger ... but at least they can farm tradeskill components a lot better.

Well, speaking from an enchanters point of view I can only speak for me.

Does Sony really need to make an uber melee weapon for casters only? Yes and no. Yes we need them for farming silks and what not. Also there are certain mobs that are almost 100% MR and for enchanters this makes us about useless. One is the Burrower in The Deep. I do more damage with my Staff of the Silent Starr than I can with 95% of nukes and DoT's getting resisted. No, they do not since our melee skills cap out at 110 for 1 hb. We are not "meant" to melee but I can and have hit for up to 65 and hit pretty fast as well. Some DPS is better than none.

Now would I rather my SoSS have a right click 400 DD or be 15 damage 18 delay with a 400 DD proc? I would say a 400 right click DD or a mana preservation IV or Spell Haste IV.

It is fun to link a 15/18 1 hand bash to a monk and make them want it so bad till they see it is caster only. LOL

I guess Sony does not have great logic all the time. They have pure melee only items with Int and Wis, SK only weapons with Wis, Pally only items with Int. I wish they would go back and change all of these items. Would be nice to see people get stuff they would actually use or at least benifit more from the stats on it.

A weapon has to have a damage/delay ratio.
A weapon doesn't have to have nice stats.
If you gave me the choice between a weapon with a nice ratio, or nice stats, Stats every time
If you gave me a choice between a weapon with nice stats and a suck ratio, or a weapon with the same stats and a nice ratio...well anyway, this poker has nice stats. Ratio will be nice for swatting those pesky skellies running around EC.
And for everyone out there thinking that you don't need a weapon in the main hand, keep up the good work. That is true, Books don't have damage/delay (most of 'em at least). They also look dumb.

It won't equip in secondary
# Jan 10 2003 at 8:05 PM Rating: Decent
Whether it's a bug that it won't equip in secondary or a mistake they have secondary listed on the weapon, this dagger will not equip in the secondary melee slot. A good mage friend got one and was extremely disappointed it would not equip there.

I am in the same position, paid a lot for it to pair up with my Velktors Spellbook but I can't equip the damn thing. I want to be able to put it in my off hand, the book in my offhand or this in my range slot...

I am hoping they fix this soon so I can use my nice dagger, I don't really want to sell it.

None of the classes that can use this item can dual wield, so they will not be able to equip this weapon in their secondary slot.

Although a caster cannot dual wield, there is no reason a caster shouldn't be able to hold the dagger in his/her secondary slot for the stats. Just like an Ornate Rune Shield or other bits and bobs.

EDIT: Whoops! I didn't spell "wield" correctly. :p

As far as I know, it doesn't work that way. Any item with damage and delay can't equip in the seconday slot of any non-dual-wielding class.

And before anybody points out that it's a caster-only weapon, there are *many* paladin and shadowknight weapons that say primary/secondary, yet they can only be equipped by knights in the primary hand. And I'm talking SK/Pally *only* weapons here, not like a yak or an old-school centi.
