Ranger damage
# Feb 05 2005 at 4:01 AM Rating: Decent
A ranger with correct AA's, Elemental/Time/GoD and OoW raid dropped gear can pull off crits for over 2300's when True Shot disc is burning.

With Every set of Critical hit AA's done, Combat Fury, Fury of the Ages and Veterans Wrath a Crit is usually 3 out of 5 hits. If Melee stats are maxed out with gear, Wunishi(spelling), Ranger Buffs, Enc haste, bard song and FA/SK proc some will proc at a amazing rate.

This bow is in truth very very good, and in a way makes sense to take it from the game, due to the way Sony nerfs content due to a roll of the dice.

If looking for a truly good bow, please check out the Bow drop from Riftseekers Sancturm or even better yet the bow that drops from Aungish, though the bow from RS is more likely a commodity (spelling) that more will be able to obtain, due to the difficulty of tackling the CoA key quest.

Hope that helps out

Combat Fury and Fury of the Ages affect all crits, Veteran's Wrath is only melee and also all it does is increase the amount of damage the crits do.

#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 27 2003 at 5:49 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I just wanted to post my 2 cents on the targeting for Bows, has anyone else been peeved over the height restriction, I mean for gosh sakes when I'm standing less than a 1/4 of my bows range capabilities and just a little too high or low over mobs I cannot shoot, that's dam nasty, frankly I think if I was hovering over a mob and they could hit me I should be able to shoot an arrow straight down into it's head, but even to be slightly off on a meter or two higher or lower than mobs and in range should definately not be restricted from shooting an arrow, worse still with a archery skill of 245 and a Featherwood Compound Bow using Blessed Championship Arrows , 260 Dex & 260 Str. I can still manage to get a miss back to back or hit for only 1hp damage, some how to me that is a crock of ogre crap, they really need to revamp the damage and targeting of bowing for Ranger's and any other class that can bow period, also the amount of times me shots get blocked by obstructions when I have a clear shot to target is pretty bad as well.

I have a 48 war on Therris, and he has nightmare and he crits for 120-140 all the time with only an archery skil of 35. I usually go to DL and just sit by a grp that is holding one of the camps and just fling arrows all day very slow skill.
RE: skill
# Dec 18 2003 at 10:07 AM Rating: Decent
If you want to skill up quick, go sit in Greater Faydark and shoot arrows at the Nexus Scion, take a mage with you to summon arrows and get a dex buff before you start. The Scion is anchored so you dont have to worry about adds, getting killed or trains.

Help
# Feb 04 2003 at 2:43 AM Rating: Decent
I have a lvl 33 Ranger with a archery skill of only 60. What is a good thing to do to raise the skill? I went to High keep and shot at the goblins that are blue to me, but all i did was waste 120 arrows without one increase in the skill. Any good pointers are more than welcome.
RE: Help
# Dec 12 2003 at 11:09 PM Rating: Decent
the best way I found to skill up is to find friends that are a few levels higher than you and sit a camp with them. You'll hit yellow and red mobs less but you tend to skill up faster.
RE: Help
# Apr 12 2003 at 1:45 PM Rating: Decent
I would suggest that at lvl 33 archery isn't your most important skill to raise. I found that once you get up in the higher lvls 45+ that you are able to raise archery much faster during times such as raids where you can simply pluck arrows...also helps that once you get higher the mages can summon arrows for you. One raid in kael and I just shot arrows, and nearly maxed out my archery.
RE: Help
# Mar 01 2003 at 3:03 AM Rating: Decent
It also would be helpful to train the skill when you lvl yes it cost money after a certain lvl but trying to get this up by rooting a mob and fireing away will take you forever.I did this every time i gained a lvl used a couple of training points to boost this i now have a archery skill of 103 at lvl 28 had to stop cause it was costing 10+ plat to raise it. But with your skill lvl it wouldn't be more in costs than it would be to make a stack of arrows to shoot and hope it goes up a point.

RE: Help
# Feb 05 2003 at 10:45 AM Rating: Decent
The best way I've found to get skill is grab a bunch of cheap arrows (or summon them with Tolan's if you have it), find a dark blue mob, root it, and shoot.....a lot. It really takes a LOT of arrows to get skill up. When I was working on skill I would get 20+ stacks of arrows and get 1 or 2 points of skill out of them if I was lucky. It just takes some patience.
RE: Help
# Apr 01 2003 at 10:50 PM Rating: Decent
Something I've done and heard works is get a billion stacks of cheap plain old arrows (or get a mage or tolans to summon some) and stand OUT OF MELEE RANGE of the nexus scion. Then shoot away. I only did it for like 2 minutes, and all I got was "You try to hit the norrath spires, but the norrath spires are INVULNERABLE". I didnt stick around long enough to see if my skill would go up or not. I get the same message when I shoot griffons, so I'd imagine your skill would increase. Just MAKE SURE you zone before getting near her, or she'll wipe you out real quick.

It does work.. but I don't know why we get that message. Every once and awhile I get it, but I hit for about 30 every 3 seconds, so maybe the scion just has some damage absorbtion buff on 'er. Keep shooting ^_^
RE: Help
# Mar 14 2004 at 4:07 PM Rating: Good
Nexus Scions are invulnerable to non-magic weapons. For a bow to count as a magic weapon, the ammunition must be magic, not the bow itself. if you actually want to hurt the nexus scion, you'll have to use arrows with the "MAGIC ITEM" tag.

This will be useful to know later in life, when you'll occasionally tag/pull with NON-magic arrows to avoid getting summoned.

Personally.. Use the cheapies for skillups. If using magic arrows you actually got some freak stroke of luck and got the scion to 96% you'd get a very unpleasant suprise.
NICE BOW

I laugh at the folks who would think this should go to anyone else other than a ranger first, rogue second. I often group with people who I dont know the skill of a ranger and after the first fight I normally get a tell from everyone WOW I now have a new found respect for rangers. I only have the AA abilities endless quiver and AM1. My best crit is 1900(with DISC up) and can outdamage just about everyone my level except a rogue. Once a ranger has AM3 its all over as far as DPS your looking at 1k dmg every few seconds, with disc up well who knows. High end rangers do not mellee unless the Line of Sight(LOS) is bad and we cant get a shot to stick, why would we when our bows do twice as much dmg and we dont take aggro. With this particular bow I would think a ranger could outdamage a rogue I could easily see 500dmg plus per shot easily without disc or a great LOS. Great bow for all listed but would benefit guild/grp if your ranger was firing this at the mob. I know 60plus people know how valuable rangers are but I often get the `sorry we are looking for another mellee thats when i step to the side and start blasting crits on their mob and they start asking me to group.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 28 2003 at 1:35 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Wow your a great noob with stonewood EQ and AM3 and blessed arrows max crits are 2400 for me and this bow has NO Archery Mod which means it will do much Less damage than Stonewood so yeah this should go to someone else other than a ranger
RE: NICE BOW
# Apr 23 2003 at 1:16 PM Rating: Decent
I know a ranger with EQ, AM3 and a nightmare bow..he do crits for 900+ without disc...So 1900 crit with disc and just AM1 is impossible unless having a high end bow like ornate abalone
RE: NICE BOW
# Dec 18 2003 at 10:26 AM Rating: Decent
I use Warmaster's Recurve and my max crit to date is 2030 with disc up. In a typical fight most of my hits are for between 300 and 600 if I have good LOS and the mob doesn't get walled. Sometimes I'll get a string of 900s and I also get the bow to proc a few times every fight. I have no clue how much other people hit for because I have my filters set up for my hits only. I guess I'm not a high end ranger yet because I do still melee depending on the zone, the camp and the group. The argument about who does the most damage is silly, it brings the term "melee crit envy" to mind. I'm disappointed that this no longer drops, it would have been a nice upgrade for whoever won it, even if the winner was a Pally or a SK.

Do you have AoW bow? or what? Without AM3 I find it really hard to believe that you do that kind of damage. I use primal, AM3/EQ and max crit is 1900. It's gotta be the bow, do share what you're using please.

First.. for damage output, Primal sucks... Good stats, great proc, crap damage...

Lots of Sub-1 bows out there, with higher damage.

Even Windstriker (PoSky quest bow) can get far higher crits. It does 45 as base damage. Many of the bows that drop in Vex Thal have additional damage modifiers (+fire, +magic, +cold) and can also rival this damage. The ratio may not be as good, but it isn't totaly impossible to have insane crits, especially with dex maxed. I can't swear that 1900 is possible, but with the doubled on unrooted stationary mobs, I think it may be feasable...
for you people who don't think we can crit with bows..

rogues and wars crit with bows ever since they introduced criticals with bows, way before AA's even came into the picture. Was only with the AA's introduction that it really became a case of giving the kickass bows to ranger cause that was when we really srtarted to be the kick *** archers abovce and beyoond everyone else

just to clear up the missinformation you let out, Rogues get crits with *throwing* not archery from level 12 up. They can crit with normal melee and archery by purchasing the AA skill "combat Fury". Warriors crit with throwing, archery, and melee starting at 12. Ranger crit with archery starting at 12, and get double damage hits starting at 51 when hitting nonrooted stationary mobs.

And for the comment earlier, this bow goes to rangers and rogeus first then everyone else... I'd have to say that in most guilds, It would indeed go to Rangers first... however they'd put Rogues in with everyone else after rangers, and possibly do Main tanks before rogues... strictly due to the HP gain from this bow. Not all guilds but some.

the best part about this is that if you give it to a ranger on mobs that ch gate cast ect ect . you can pretty much help with the mana seiving process. not that many poeople have bothered to mana seive mobs lately .

It also is the second best range item for hp/ac a warrior can get, right behind the Wand of Flowing Wind.

Just food for thought.

im guess you sir no nothing about a pvp lifestyle if ya cant get enuff mr wich sadly i cannot you end up rooted and a bow with greater range then most spells is a huge + to anyone my ranger is young but to crit 44 alot and nearly destroy a cleric and necro with a bow alone is great and though a rogue or anyother class listed wont crit the damage they can put out is enuff to scare off any caster i mean heck i would pass on a drop like this at first and if there is a ranger with a need for it but if not im gonna roll or whatever granted im still in PoN stage but that is closer then wherever you may be

eternalphreak. lol u are exactly your name..haha any class can crit with this, combat fury would do nicely.. yeayea, this is a *ranger bow, by allmeans they should have it 1st. as of this being used in pvp, the range alone is what makes it excellent pvp weapon, not the mana drain. 80mana is nuthing to a pure caster.

ty ty i am a phreak but i know about the only things a rogue can crit for sure 100% is backstabs (with the aa skill) and a thrown item other then that i dont know i dont play with a rogue heavy group that would be suicide for one of us but still i dont know about arrow crits

i only know about the bow thing cos i was told to get one when a ranger rooted me and self healed she didnt like getting whooped by a rogue cos we all know rogues can really blow at pvp

I know warriors can crit with a bow, and I'm pretty sure all melee classes with the Combat Fury ability can crit with bows as well. Granted, they won't pull anywhere near the numbers as a Ranger can with this, but they can still crit.
