# Feb 18 2003 at 11:47 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah I got one and also a Windblade.

All I can say is the WB does slightly higher dmg (but not by much)than the lance but the difference is barely noticeable. If you already stacked up with DEX / STA then I recommend the lance. However if you wanted more WIS than lance is for you.

Overall in terms of looks, the lance owns the windblade hands down. Seems like way too many jokers out there with windblades. I get so many unapproved checking me out wondering what the hell I was carrying and on a holy steed I look sooo hawt.

It does more dmg but it does it at a slower rate...the ratio is exactly the same (well actually lance is like .000000000000001 better)

the damage bonus on windblade is higher, due to the higher delay.
RE: Lance
# Aug 31 2003 at 4:47 PM Rating: Default
The damage bonus on windblade is 4 damage higher, however the additional attack you get with lance makes up for it, with slower weps you also have to take into account missed hits.
RE: Lance
# Sep 23 2003 at 8:53 PM Rating: Decent
The Lance has parsed to do a significant more amount of damage over the windblade.

For those who doesn't know what he means by "parsed" ...

The "Comparative Efficiency: 165" of this lance vs Windblade at 164

Depends on level
# Jan 24 2003 at 8:29 PM Rating: Excellent
Formula to figure out your modular dps:

[2*(dmg+dmg bonus)/dly]*10*(1+ %haste--like 1.41)*[1+(player level+double attack skill level)/500]

So actually your level (dmg bonus) is what makes the difference between this and the windblade (and of course, the stats.)

Under level 60, this actually has higher DPS than the windblade; after level 60 the Windblade begins to BARELY get ahead (we're talking less than 1dps.)

So it's more about the look and the stats in the end. Do you want the slightly better ac/hp of the windblade or the better mana & resists of the lance?

I, personally, would chose the lance because it's less commonly seen, has a much better look & I could use the mana/resists.

Just my opinion though.

RE: Depends on level

Lets looks at how damage should work from a logical computation process....

We have the following stats to determine damage:
Weapon Damage
Weapon Delay
Weapon Bonus Damage
Haste
Attack Rating (made up of):
- Weapon Skill
- Offense Skill
- Strength
- Attack or STR buffs
AA ablilties to enhance damage

And stats to offset damage on the target:
Target AC
Target Defense skills (dodge, riposte, etc)
Target AA abilities (im sure uber mobs have some)

Throw out factors such as primary/secondary hand, number of hits per swing and you come up with a basic weapon rating, usually D=(dmg/dly)*10 which tells us that given no bonus and a single hit for the value of the weapon damange we do D damage every second. Adding the bonus afterwards means you are adding a factor directly related to your level and nothing else so we will ignore it for now.

Given we have D, which is the base damage of the weapon in 1 period (second in this case) of time we figure in a haste value to enchane the number (D*(1+(%haste))), for example (D*1.41). Remember, haste is an increase in attack speed, not decrease in delay (which could be figured if needed). This gives us a new D which we'll call D'. D' can be viewed as a hasted value for base damage per second or can be adjusted relative to the actual delay (since weapons don't have a 1 second delay) by multiplying by delay/10.

The "secret formula" is the multiplier used to adjust D' based on your attack and aa skills with some randomness applied. This is the formula we can only guess at but we do know that the multipler is based primarily on the attack skill. The higher the skill, the higher of a multiplier we can potentially get. We can just call the multiplier R and consider it a value that is multiplied by D'.

Now we have (D'*R) which is our given hit, again assuming 1 hit per swing, and no misses. The average hit over time will be based on the average value of R since D' is a constant. Once the value is computed you add on the bonus of the weapon to get the value number.

Next we figure in our chance to miss. This is where (one would assume) the targets stats come into play. The miss% will factor in the target's AC and avoidance skills as well as your own chance to miss. Damage could be mitigated or you miss completely. The end result is that you either miss, or you end up with reduced damage. My guess is both are possible. The most important thing to note here is that your target plays an important role on how much your average hit is as well as how often you miss or hit them.

Once your mitigated damage is determined you have your end result for that swing. The final step is to determine how many swings you got in that one round. This is where your chance to double (or better) hit comes into play. Most likely if it is determined that your landed a 2nd hit the above process is repeated to determine if you hit or missed on your 2nd swing and how much damage is done. Next round its all repeated again.

Now there can be (and most likely is) other factors that determine weapon efficiency. For example, a 1hs that is 25/25 seems (in my experience) to do less damage than a 35/35 2hs weapon when the ratio (D) is still the same. This might be because for certain classes at least, a 1hs might be penalized over a 2hs weapon (like for a pally) whereas a 1hs on a ranger might do better than an equivalent 2hs. Again its hard to say but those are "unknowns" we have to take into account.

Part of the good economy system of EQ and its zillions of weapons is that what sucks for one class rocks for another and that no one knows the true formulas or else half the weapons we though were awesome would become useless.
RE: Depends on level

Level of attacker vs. level of defender matters GREATLY. This is why even when a fully buffed level 44 goes against a non-buffed 50 he gets whooped.
RE: Depends on level
# Mar 08 2003 at 3:10 AM Rating: Decent
What i've been looking at as a pally are the lower delay weapons. We (SK's and Pallies) have a high miss %, lets face it. keeping this in mind, the lance would be a better choice. If i'm going to miss 30% of my hits, I would rather have a 40 delay weapon, and get one extra hit in every 5 seconds then you would using a 50 delay weapon.

(assuming im correct in every 10 delay = 1 second)

RE: Depends on level
# Mar 16 2003 at 5:49 PM Rating: Good
Sorry but we've been parsing some of these lower delay PoP weapons and finding that just the OPPOSITE is true. Highly Damage - High Bonus weapons wielded by knight classes are owning weapons that have dam/delay ratios below 1.

It seems when the PoP Dev team lowered the delay for new, uber 2handers to make supposedly faster, more damaging weapons, they didn't take into account factors that had been put into play a 15 months earlier when they buffed up slow 2 handed weapon dps with big bonuses.

Hence, an AP(Kunark era) > Two Tined Pitch Fork (PoP)and Ssra Temple 2handers > PoP 2handers for the most part. Maybe SOE will fix this, hasn't been a priority so far.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 05 2003 at 1:28 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yeah right this thing OWNS windblade...look at the stat comparison. And to top that off this thing actually looks cool and well, Windblade looks like a piece of crap. Ratio is barely better on Windblade, but this weapon is faster by 4 dly. Not that matters, but the stats make the difference in my opinion.

Yeah right dude this thing OWNS Windblade. Look at the stat comparison. This thing has way better stats and to top it off it looks pretty cool. On the other hand Windblade looks like a piece of crap. And Windblade's ratio is barely even better...and it wouldn't be noticeable at all when fighting...just that it would hit harder cuz it's damage/delay is slightly higher.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 03 2003 at 7:11 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) what lvl does that +42dmg come into effect. cuz thats a 87/40 with that dmg bonus. My god........

no it doesnt work like that.
RE: godly.....
# Jan 03 2003 at 7:15 PM Rating: Default
From what I understand of Damage Bonus is it does not add to the total damage of the weapon. If you hit a Moss_Snake_01 for 1 point of damage you then add on the 42 points of damage for that hit. I think there are other factors in it also that I don't seem to remember right now.

If you go back to the old way D&D games work, there is an initiative combat roll which decides damage done to mob_01. If the mob requires you to roll lets say 100 to hit it, and you roll any less than that, it's considered a *miss* or a hit-for-nothing. If you roll above that, you have your damage. (Strength, weapon damage, skill, etc, all factor into how high you can roll).

Damage bonuses serve one purpose, to add damage. For example if you were to roll 250 vs a mob that has 100 required, you would do 150 damage PLUS the damage bonus. However, damage bonuses may also add *hits* you would have otherwise missed. If by chance you were to roll 75 on the creature requiring 100, normally it would be rolled on as a *miss*, if you took the damage bonus of said weapon into count, you would hit for 75 + Damage bonus, minus required roll of 100.

I know it's a lot of little stuff, but hey, that's what D&D games are all about :)
RE: godly.....
# Jan 17 2003 at 1:24 PM Rating: Decent
That cannot be correct. You will never hit for less than your damage bonus unless on a ripost (no damage bonus) or offhand attack (dmg bonus is primary hand only). Just think of damage bonus as whats added onto the end of your swing after passing through all of the other mods.
RE: godly.....
# Jul 16 2003 at 4:59 PM Rating: Decent
Slein is correct, if you watched your actual damage numbers back when 2x your weapon's damage was a nice hit (around level 20-25) you would notice somthing interesting. You frequently hit for exactly (2*dmg)*bonus.

For example, you have and AP that is 42/49 and the damage bonus is lets say 18. If you watched your damage numbers you'd see that a surprisingly high number of times your hit would be (2*42)+18 or 102. This appears more frequent when your weapon and offense skills are around 100. This gives reason to believe that around 100 skill your "sweet spot" is 2*dmg. Gain a level, and if you bonus becomes 19 then your sweet spot (my brother and i came up with this term to describe the "mode" value of our hits) becomes 103.

As you gain levels and your weapon skill goes beyond 100 you see it less and less because the multiplier increases so that 2*dmg is not as common but perhaps 2.5*dmg is.

From observing these number distributions it becomes clear that the base damage is a weapon damage value multiplied by a skill factor (the unknown formula) with the bonus added after everything else is computed. And obviously that unknown damange formula is a factor of your weapon skill, offense, and str which in turn determine your attack skill number. The attack skill number is ultimately what is used to determine your damage.

Want to get a higher average multiplier? Increase anything that will increase your attack value (like a good ranger buff, chanter boon, VoG with the attk buff, str buff, yaulp, etc.).

Badazz! Looks like an actual lance, very heavy and metalic like yer gonna head off to the jousting arena. Also pretty powerful against players and mobs alike. I'd reccommend this over the Windblade.
