I see most of the messages on here are about who should get this item considering that it's all/all. I'm not gonna say that a necro should get it just because they have the most dots and as far as dmg, that's pretty much what necros do. But i DO think it would be wrong for a class that doesnt have a good ******* of DoTs to roll on this item.

In general a guild should want the items to go to the person that would make the best use of them. In my opinion necros and shamans are the classes that could make the best use of this. I play a necro on The Combine (progression) and considering how many Burning Affliction items there are available to me i gotta say, yeah, i would be pissed if a wizard rolled on this and won over me or some other necro/dru/sham.

BA items just are too few and far between for any class other than those who depend heavily on dots to be rolling on this. A lot of the new hotzone items have improved damage, mana preservation or spell haste on them, but to my knowledge none of them have BA (not even from low level zones like ToFS or Guk). Where are the BA items?

Again, high level burning affliction items are hard to come by and if another class just needs a nice earring they have a lot of options that wont take away from a DoT class's chance to get a nice BA item.
Very nice.
# Aug 11 2004 at 12:49 PM Rating: Decent
I was lucky enough to get this with my shaman .
Very usable and a great addition to my ******* of items.
RE: Druids own dots
# Aug 12 2004 at 7:15 PM Rating: Good
Just for reference:

Shammy love--
Bane: 420/tick
Blood of Saryrn: 320/tick
Bane of Nife: 214/tick
Breath of Ultor: 131/tick
Pox of Bertoxxulous: 111/tick

And, of course, there are myriad lower level spells that stack, but I'm not one for switching out spells constantly for a 20% damage increase.

And Epic dot doesn't get a bonus, sadly. Guess the free dot will have to be enough without the increase.

#REDACTED, Posted: May 04 2004 at 6:52 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) OKay the focus is not Burning affliction. it says extended which wouldnt that mean. extended Dots?

They removed the Extended Affliction focus and replaced it with Burning Affliction some time ago.

every fricken time i look something up and read the posts it always turns into the "this class can use it better than that class so they shouldnt get it wha wha wha" and on and on. wtf? you say its "greed" for a druid to get this but i see it as "greed" for you to think a druid shouldnt be given the chance for this because you are a shaman or necro or whatever and want it for yourself. if thats the case then get a raid of only necros (or whatever class you are) and raid it yourselves since you are so good. that way you know that your specific class will get it.

if things went the way some ppl want it to, then there are some classes that would never get anything nice and have to resort to wearing cloth at 65...

some ppl need to get over themselves and realize that 1) this is still just a game, there is life outside of your computer 2) no one can obtain any of these high lvl uber items by themselves. if you are there helping you should have an equal shot at the prize and 3) i pay just as much to play as you do so you have no special "rights" to gear just cuz you think you use it more than someone me

sorry for the rant but im tired of the highhorse ppl that think they should have everything to themselves. just like the other day i was in ldon with my cleric and a dex augment dropped. i rolled and won. some wizard started moaning about how i was greedy and shouldnt have rolled blah blah blah and was actually upset about the whole thing. now im sorry but the cleric hammers proc and i do my fair share of beating on mobs. im not one of the boring clerics that sit in the corner sittin on FM twidlin thumbs and healin once in a while. if i have enough mana im up there too so increasing my dex is worthwhile. point being...if this wizard was all cranky over a dex augment, how do you think he would be over, say, the Miserable Bauble?

This is a raid item.

The raid earned it, and correctly your part of that raid.

So whats best is to give to someone in raid that would help the raid the most.

If this was a pickup raid, where no one ever raids with each other again, sure I think everyone who can use should roll because it is everyones loot, but this is the reason i dont play diablo 2.

It is clearly your greed that you think you should get this over someone in the raid/guild that would benefit the raid/guild the most.

Lets look at math if you dont like my ideology

this item gives you maybe 130 mana lets say .... When have you EVER been to 130 mana as a cleric on a raid and had that save the tank from dying which would have saved an otherwise wipe?

Has that ever occured in the history of EQ ... Mana total means crap to mana regeneration.

Now a necromancer doing 20% more damage on 5 or so dots over the duration of a fight, Consider how much shorter of a fight you will have because of the damage increase of a necro doing 20% more damage.

I would bet that on long fights that could translate to many Cheals not needing to be cast.

But dont worry your magelo now makes u look better to newbs.

as a carebear the wiz was right to be mad at you for rolling. This means a whole lot less you then to someone else, but as the entity of that group dies after the ldon ends imo welcome to diablo 2, might as well ninja loot it too and give to to a twink your going to delete in 2 days.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 20 2004 at 4:08 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I am not sure about Shaman or Druid dots but I know for a fact no other class can touch a Necromancer when it comes to DoT damage. If burning affliction 4 would 1-20 lets just use the median of 10% extra damage.
# Jan 06 2004 at 5:06 AM Rating: Default
Ba4 is 0-20 more damage so basicaly 10% more damage

Lets see Druids have acording to casters realm
300 a tic vengance of tunare level 64
240 a tic Swarming Death Level 63
140 a tic Immolation of Ro Level 62
druids do and extra 68 damage a tic with Ba4 over Ba3

Shamans have
325 a tic blood of saryn level 65
131 a tic breath of ultor level 64
420 a tic Bane level 64
Shamans will do about 87 more damage a tic with BA4 over Ba3

Necros have
335 a tic blood of thule level 65
70 a tic embracing darkness level 64
430 a tic Horror level 63
200 a tic saryns kiss level 62
132 a tic Dark Plague level 61
Necros should do about 116 more damaga a tic with BA4 over BA3

So to make your guild stronger who do you award this item too?

I should check stuff more often but you forgot the following druid dots:

Winged Death 143/tick
Wrath of Nature 55/tick
Drones of Doom 34/tick

So adding all druid dots together (VoT, SD, WD, IoR, WoN, DoD)

Equals 912/tick.

at up to 20% increase you would have an additional 182.4/tick

BTW I could stack 2 more dots on but they are not worth the mana IMO.

Any dotting class would benefit from BA4.

My two cents worth.

RE: dotin
# Feb 29 2004 at 12:15 PM Rating: Default
Your major flaw is you qoute more dots for necros then the other two classes. Of course your damage per tick will be more if you use 5 necro dots compared to 3 shammy dots. From what i see, shammy dots only lag behind necro dots 10/tick right down the line from best to worse. So thats only 1 hp difference per dot using BI4. Necro and shams dots basically have the same potential with druids not far behind. In short, this would help all three classes equally and saying awarding this to necros would make a guild stronger is crazy. Do you really think that the extra 3-5 hp/tick of damage you get over a shaman with this makes the difference in a raid?
Rather then try to make an argument that the minor difference in damage as reason to award this to necros, state the more obvious. Shamans and druids rarely have time to dot during a raid. We have other business to attend to, at least speaking as a shaman. After I malos, slow, buff, etc, there isnt much time left to dot. I dont play necro, but when your not mana pumping, I assume your doing damage and making more use of your dots and the BI4.

While I do not agree that this item should go to necros because it would have the most effect on a necro, Lotic does not have a major flaw in his proof. He listed all of the stackable dots for those three classes that are affected by BA4 but not BA3. He listed more dots for necros because a necro can cast more dots at once, therefore it's a fair comparison of 61+ max damage.

Indeed, to consider them on a dot by dot basis is a fatal flaw, because this is a focus affect for all dots cast at any given time, not one specific dot. So you should compare all dots that can be cast at any given time.

Again, I would not say necros should get this because it would help them most, or because it would help the guild most. Give it to any of the above classes who has the most points earned. But as Lotic's well put together table clearly shows, it would affect Necromancers the most, and would help the guild most if an active necromancer got it.

The above of course assumes that all three classes are focusing on maintaining max dot damage on a mob. In my experience, druids and shamans do not primarily dot in raids/groups, they nuke and heal and slow, and then dot if they can. Necromancers are more likely to be maintaining max dot damage the entire time. This would further seperate the gap between Necromancers and the other two class's usefullness to a guild.

Wether they're all dotting or just necros are dotting the guild would be better served by an active necro haveing this than an active druid/shaman. But all dotting classes would be improved by this and I can't see so much difference between these top three than any of them should be excluded from bidding or even penalized for it.

ok who cares about who does the best dot. personally if i have a necro in my group i want um to do damage and twitch and snare and do whatever else u do. if i have a shammy i want um to slow and back up heal and do some dmg(dot) if i have a druid either mainhealer or dmg(dot)- nuke-snare back up healer. now one more doter the chanter sure the dots suck but have debuffs in um too so if the mana can be spared cast um and this piece whould add more dmg to a crappy dot making it a little less crappy.

so anyone who can cast a dot nomatter how crappy or how much dmg u do should be able to hope to get a dot modifer. that includes sk's too

RE: dotin
# Jan 24 2004 at 2:04 PM Rating: Decent is NOT 0-20 more damage, it's 0-20% more damage. I use BA3 on my necro all the time, and it rings in with some serious advantages once you hit the higher level spells..BA4 would be great, at my current level.

Example: lvl 60 funeral pyre does 261/tick...with a BA focus item, it does up to 261 +52 (20%) =313/tick (uh, I may be slightly off, just adding in my head quickly). Drop several DoT's and it really adds up....adds up to a ton of aggro too :)

I just got this and so far it works with all SK DoTs including leech spells, but the Focus Effect is kind of misleading. It does not increas spell damage by 20% each tic. As far as I can tell it increases the effect UP TO 20%. Don't expect a full 20% increase on DoTs.

This is an awesome item for SKs, not saying other classes wouldn't benefit or anything. As a lvl 65 SK I would bid on this item. The stats are pretty nice and the focus effect makes us SKs just that much more powerful. However if I found out that the focus effect did not work on my leech line of spells then I wouldn't bid on it.

I realize im replying to an old post, but the earring is good for sks, but not all that great, because although it does focus damage on lifetap-over-time, it does not focus the life gained, and otherwise damage from dots is not a sk's main damage(that i have seen)

Only 2 Ext Aff 4 items know in game are
1. PoT boss mob drop
2. Pottery item made from blood that drops in PoT stomach event.

Thanks VI for making a nice necro (or druid/shm..etc..) drop impossible to get or make for those who solo or don't find satisfaction in the "uber" guild heirarchy. At the least, they could have made the blood a bit more accessible.

Two of these dropped tonight. I won one, another shaman won another. We have gotten 3 in under 10 kills. Did it with open raids. Easier said than done, but should be part of every server.

Btw, giving these to druids is like giving shamans ID 4 or other DD focuses. Do you REALLY want to see shamans and necros rolling for ID4 and other DD focuses when wizzies, druids, mages would do SO much better with them? The people who really and seriously DOT as a major part of what they do are shaman/necro. Shamans do almost all their damage with DOT's, and necros depend on them a bit less. Druids hardly register at the levels you will be getting this earring.

If you're greedy, then no sensible argument matters, and it's all a matter of shouting down someone who stands in the way of you getting loot. But there are VERY(_very_) few BA4 items in game at this date, and giving a major DOT focus to any class that doesn't use DOTs as their bread and butter is letting greed get out of control.

It's easy to see the value of DD focuses to wizzies etc, but it works the other way too. Give the DOT focuses to people who actually do most or all of their damage with DOTs.

I play a level 65 Druid on Veeshan. I myself would love to attain one of these. When you're kiting HoH or anywhere else for that matter, anything that increaces the abilities of your DoT spells is invaluable, regardless of whatever class you are. Who is to say that Druids benefit from this less than other classes? HP and Mana bonuses. Wisdom for more mana. DEX for when you start getting beat on by a goofed up pull (as if it ever happens :)

BA4, to top off the list, is invaluable to any DoT using class, and druids don't benefit any less than anyone else.

How much you benefit from an item doesn't depend on what class you are, it depends on how you play and the strategies you use. As a DoT kiting druid, I'd love to have this item.

Actually, the effect is also on the ShadowKnight Elemental Plate Sleeves... not that it's any easier to get...

but IMHO, if you're not IN an uber guild heirarchy, do you really NEED this item? If you're above level 60 and content with clearing out yard trash mobs by yourself does it matter how much time you spend alone?... Why spend the time building up your char and soloing if you have no intent of becoming powerful enough to face some of the bigger mobs...

Druid Epic Dot is does not have a spell level therefore it is not effected. However, items with a clicky that is a player castable spell, such as ES Vambraces or Kael/SS/Thurg Druid Bracer, etc.. , are effected by it.

Druids have some usefull dots, they seem to think so at least. So if there weren't any necros along I could almost see a druid getting away with this if they had a lot of raid points on whatever system they use.

Several classes have useful dots, necros, shamans, and druids have very damaging ones too.
Two interesting things about the druid line of "swarm" dots, is that besides all stacking with each other and with the same ones cast by another druid, they are surprisingly difficult for a mob to resist.
I have had them land without fail on mobs way red to a L 62 that were resisting most other spells, including magic resist ones (the swarm line checks against magic resist).
This can make a druid`s dots more important than one might think at first and Burning Affliction items a very reasonable thing to award to druids.
RE: ! !
# Jan 20 2005 at 2:46 PM Rating: Decent
Perhaps, but druids also have good nukes they they will use, and are also healers. The main damage output for any necro is unarguably dots. Shamans are usually using a fair part of their mana for slow and tash and the occasional heal. Necros also have dots that are damn near impossible to resist, and are more likely to use them more than druids, having no good heals and much better mana regen. Anyone who spends dkp on this should win it, but in my humble opinion, necros would get the most use out of the effect.
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 26 2002 at 6:43 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) if you can do st which is not necessarily for uber guilds only you probably have some kind of primal weapon since some do rot.
