I sat down one day a while back and did some calculations on what some actual mana savings would be for the various effects under different casting conditions. There is also a spreadsheet link for anyone who likes details.
I used it to help decide things like the relative value of FT3 versus MP4. Follow the link below if you're interested. Hope it helps.
I am somewhat confused. If I have a mana preservation IV item (which is supposed to save up to 10% of mana) and SCM3 AA (which saves up to 30% of mana), without getting into the arguments of how much is being saved, do they stack? Could I be saving a maximum of 40% of mana on any given spell? ----- Parax 61 Druid
Mana Preservation, SCM AAs, and specialization all stack.
Mana Preservation (1, 2, 3, 4) saves 1-10% on each spell cast, so averages 5.5%
SCM 1, 2, and 3 saves 2%, 5%, and 10% of the base mana cost
Specialization saves 3% (spec = 50) or 11% (spec = 200) of the base mana cost.
So if you have an MP item and SCM3 AA, and assuming your specs are maxxed, you save 26.5% of the base mana cost for spells in you main spec, and 18.5% of base mana for spells in the other 4 areas of specialization.
Deciding to look this up after winning on a cash roll I would have to say that because of the better stats of ac, hps and stamina let alone wisdom and mana and the effect possibly being as good as ft3 that these are better than boots of flowing slime for you guys. In planer groups wouldn't your rather have 5% hps left and get exodus off then be dead? If your naked you don't regen any mana. Just my own opinion.
It is a very simple matter to swap Boots when medding. I have these and the FT3 boots, and it is no hassle to swap between the two.
Also, it is situational. I keep the FT3 on mostly when soloing and the Mana Pres boots when in a group, due to different spell use, and focus items available.
Saving 40m per Tunare's Renewal and 60m on a Karana's renewal on heal rotations or saving 10% on a 390m nuke while doing 23% more with ceramic rod of storms makes FT3 pale in comparison. Using less mana per cast I've noticed is alot better than FT3 boots and white dragonscale. I have tried all 3, while my FT3 booties are nice for CR's and when I'm very low in mana, they just don't add up to normal day to day nukes/heals/buffs. Anyone who's MGB'd or casted Blessing of the Nine will be glad to save 180mana or 360mana Elder Alaten Storm Warden
Just FYI, when I MGB BoT9, and I do MGB it in PoK at least once daily...I only lose about 75m. Maybe your mana pool needs work or you were misinformed. If you don't want to take my word for it, hit your v button in game and click on the MGB AA. It says within its own description that the mana cost for the spell is merely doubled. When I raid, I do not always MGB 9, I sometimes MGB Seasons or Replenishment and neither of these cost anywhere near what MGB 9 costs as far as mana.
I hope this cleared up any confusion. I just won this pattern tonight while grouping at MS camp in BoT. I had no idea what was on the boots but seeing its MP4 has definately sparked my interest. I can see how 10% reduction in mana cost per cast would add up quickly. If you cast the same spell 10 times in a row, the next cast is free in a sense with an MP4 item equiped. FT and MP used together make your mana pool seem fatter which means more heals/nukes for you!
Not to be picky, but Mana Pres does not affect percentage heals. No mana savings on Tunare's or Krana's Renewal.
That being said, I agree with the point that mana pres is better than FT3. With a 4000 mana pool, 10% mana savings equates roughly to +400 mana in your pool. And since using 90% mana means you only need 90% of the recovery time - Mana Pres works out to be FT4 if you have a med rate of 40 mana/tick.
FYI, I also have the Kael, SS, Elysian and even my old ES boots... Stats can be made up very easily on NTOV and greater gear. Chances are if you're guild is doing BoT raids, you can easily lose 100m or 50 wis and still be capped. Not very hard to get 355 wisdom anymore.

Posted:Mar 19 2003 at 2:35 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Sure mana pres is good, but lets face it, these stats are terrible considering the level and effort for it, I'd never use these over my Slime boots even. Elemental, now thats a different story...
These, I believe, are the 3rd best druid boots in game. Considering the white dragonscale boots are best, followed by GEBs, these are nice. Then again, I am currently weighing the idea of replacing my GEBs with these... Would you?
Velvet Slippers of Harmony > White dragonscale boots > Boots of Flowing Slime > Wanderer's Sylvan Boots....why the heck put MP4 on the boots? Would have been better to put on the gloves...boot's stats are too weak to be justified by the effect...but are better than coldain skin and geb's ^_^
If you think GEBs are better than this, you're either a n00b, or smoking crack. I gave up my GEBs months ago in favor of Coldain Skin, then gave those up for my SS boots, and I'd gladly give up my clicky SOW for Mana Pres 4. Then I could get a real neckpiece instead of a crappy Crystalline Torque (crappy other than the mana pres 3 that is).
