As of today's patch, these are useable by beastlords. We can all rejoice now...
Question
# Apr 22 2005 at 10:26 AM Rating: Decent
Just wondering if I can equip the Gloves cast pet and replace the gloves with somthing better or must I keep the gloves on at all times?
RE: Question
# Aug 28 2005 at 11:35 AM Rating: Decent
as with all focus items this focus need only be worn during the casting and compleation of the spell, once the spell *in this case your pet being created* is compleat the focuse is no longer nessary.
they work...

I was lucky enough to win these last night when my guild was clearing VT. I know it may seem discouraging when you make a pet and dont see the "soandso item begins to glow" etc message, but i can assure you they work when equipped.

The unfocused lvl 65 necro pet's max hit is 79 dmg, with the gaunts, the pet hits for a max of 81 dmg. Also, when dueling the pet w/ my druid bot ive noticed it takes at least 75% of another nuke to kill it, denoting a significant hp gain of ~900hp or so, equivalent or superior to the LDoN pet augment.
How do you know?
# May 31 2004 at 9:40 AM Rating: Decent
I got these on Tunare last week. The spell effect works fine. *click* Pet gone.

My Gloves then state that Minion of Darkness is a "SPELL EFFECT." This is driving me crazy for two reasons. One, when you cast a pet there is no indication that the gloves supposed focus effect is activated. Two, during combat there is no kind of text that gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling that the gloves work!

P.S. Hey DEV..the floors in Vex Thal are still broken.

rumor has it that as of 3/26/04 patch the Aug and Gloves will stack.... since i only have the gloves i cant say if they do stack.... even if they do its just asking to get Beaten with teh Nerf stick

RE: Stackable ?
# Mar 25 2004 at 3:39 PM Rating: Good
No, the highest ranked focus item takes over. So in this case the gloves would take over.

It functions the same as any focus item. If you have two Improved Damage 4 items on, it will only give you the bonus for 1 of them.

That would be nice. Thats a question I would also like an answer to. If anyone has any insight in the matter, then dont be shy, let us know.
I hate this guy, I love these gaunts.

These are damn rare....

We have cleared VT in upwards of 6 times.. no gloves.

BTW, this mob is the suck. Much more HP then AHR, Hits pretty damn hard, and if your DPS not upto speed, you will have re-pops durring fight.. Eoms at that. have fun
RE: I hate this guy, I love these gaunts.
# Mar 13 2004 at 3:53 AM Rating: Decent
Is Teh Suck. Also was bugged last night, wiped 3 times on it w/o re-popps. Clerics were OOM 10% into fight and Necros were soon to follow. 40% is as low as we could get him. He even summoned someone from PoTranq (aye bugged).
Other focus items?
# Jan 21 2004 at 3:22 PM Rating: Decent
Are there any other focus items for post 49 pets? This is simply not an item i will ever realistically have a shot at getting. Anyone know of any others that are obtainable without a raid force?
RE: Other focus items?
# Apr 01 2004 at 5:13 AM Rating: Decent
For MAGES only ... the four Staff of Elemental Mastery Fire(poH), Water(kedge), Air(poA), Earth(poH)

Those are for lvls 49-59!!!

Summoner's Boon is for pets lvl 59 to 65 ... NOT 49 to 59!!!
RE: Other focus items?

Pet focus out of LDoN called Summoners Boon. 760 points from NRo camp. Worth every point. LDoN focus can be used by Mages, Necro's adn BLs.

Is there any focus items like this for under 49 pets? I know there is for the mage's out of Temple of Sol Ro, but was wondering if there was anything like it for Necros.
RE: Other focus items?
# Mar 13 2004 at 9:38 PM Rating: Decent
Yes there is. It is called Encyclopedia Necrothurgia. It drops in Plane of Hate, I believe off the Ashenbone Broodqueen or something (named ashenbone drake). I got mine off the original Innoruuk and haven't really kept tabs on the new versions of PoH much, so I might be a little off.
30% pet focus
# Nov 30 2003 at 11:22 AM Rating: Excellent
Yes I have a pair of these on Vasaelle server.

Its a 30% pet focus not a 20% like it says above. Base lvl 65 necro pet has exactly 4000hps. With this focus he has exactly 5200. This was determined very accurately and methodical multiple times for accuracy. pet also hits for 81 points of damage whereas summoners boon hits for 80.

Go here for pet vs pet pvp tests, see whose is the best vs each other:

Increase Pet Power, unknown value (20)

This only has to do with what focus it is and where the focus effect is on a relative scale-- it doesn't mean that a pet's hp / atk / etc will be increased by 20%.

For reference:
DPoC- summoner's boon: Unknown #167 (100/15/0)
GoDS- minion of darkness: Unknown #167 (100/20/0)
SoAS- minion of eternity: Unknown #167 (100/25/0)
CCA- ritual summoning: Unknown #167 (100/30/0)
? - minion of discord: Unknown #167 (100/35/0)

Took a trip to Afterlife's website, and confirmed our guess. These do indeed provide pet-focus for the Level 61+ pets.

Rather sad to discover it. :( Not a chance of even seeing Vex Thal anytime soon, least of all these gloves.

Oh well...unfocussed pets are better than none, surely.

These do in Fact act as a pet focus.. friend of mine on CT has a pair.. it even works on the magician Epic pet..

said it added 4 more pts of dmg to output (traditionally that means 2 more lvls: 2 pts per lvl of pet at a given casting lvl.. course they've dinked with pet dmg so much i'm not even sure that still accurate)

and he said the epic pet went from big.. to Huge in physical size.

all the other focus items from sol ro quests had reclaim energy on em too.. so dont let that throw you off. the pet focus items Never say 'makes your pet strong' right square on them heh

Reclaim energy is a pet banishment spell. You cast this and recieve a very small amount of mana back in return.

RE: Oh well...
# Apr 14 2003 at 4:58 AM Rating: Decent
That depends on the class and pet that was cast. Reclaim energy returns a percentage of pet HP in the form of mana. A 65 mage pet reclaimed after focus from these gloves will return SIGNIFICANTLY more mana than the pet casting cost.
RE: Oh well...
# Aug 26 2003 at 12:05 PM Rating: Decent
With the Magician AA "Improved Reclaim" it changes the formula for calculating how much mana is returned from this spell. With the AA, it becomes based on the amount of mana spent to cast whichever pet is about to die.

My understanding is that these Gloves act as a Focus for the 61+ and Epic pets.

If I were playing without the help of spoiler sights like Allakhazam's, how would I be able to tell that this item, or the other small mage focus items had any effect on my pets? Did mages just discover these things through lots of testing and experimentation?

Pet focus effects had three main effects that you would immediately notice. First is the size. Focused pets are considerably larger than non-focused pets. Second is speed. Focused pets run at SoW speed (though I'm not sure if Mage pets get natural speed boosts other than the Mage pet SoW spell). Thirdly is damage. Focused pets have a higher max hit (all hits, including backstab, I believe).

>Quote< Did mages just discover these things through lots of testing and experimentation?>Quote<

Yes and no. Some things like pet focus items are obvious, because they make your pets larger in size. Other things show "hidden" (for lack of a better word) characteristics when you cast Identify on them. The rest of these things are usually discovered through programs like ShowEQ or SIN.
