Generaly I'm weiding slower weapons and have vertualy no push. With this weapon I actually push a bit which comes in handy when you got a few people behind the mob your tanking. It gets old having to back off the mob till your against a wall.

worth it

aye this not a bad weapon and all. but one thing i think most are over looking, yeah it procs a DoT, great for aggro. But this weapon has become known as the ornate crapblade on my server for that reason. Things get hairy, MT goes down, or you get adds in camp. and Chanters start mezzin left and right. Everything gtg for rezzing? No. cause dots are breakin mezz. No one in my guild is allowed to weild this on raids due to that.

im a 65 warrior and just got this fYne blade, previous weapons were bloodfrenzy, hategiver, blade of carnage, honorable longsword. with anger 2-3 augs mind you. i held agro nicely but it could get hairy sometimes without procs. but whoa, with this, i hold agro atleast 2 times as well, and its not based on procs so i dont get some unlucky streaks, also talk about the dps, warriors get jacked on dps, this honestly dubbles if not tripples my dps. ( very nice weapon for a warrior, has all you need ) as for knight classes, not saying dont get this, but i wouldnt spend tons of dkp on it for there are tons of better weapons around for you that are easyer to get.

lostet, I am not saying your a drugie, but you had to been smokeing something when you made this post. This sword beats all other pally equipable weapons before you reach POTime with the exception of the Stone Etched War Sword. Yes even the Great Blade of Malise. Pallies and SK should welcome this into their inventory, expecaly if they are NOT the MT, witch for raids we usaly are not. DPS for a pally is one of the worse in the game, and I for one welcome anything I can get to increase it.
good enough

without a doubt the dmg succors on this sword, but refer abck to stats. pre SEWS this sword owns for SKs. used greater stormwqtcher horn staff of four winds. ssra is still better, but if ya lost on all the rolls ornate is good standby till you get SEWS from earth
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 25 2004 at 9:58 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) sadly im only 44 pally but i wish i had this real bad. has less delay than my WMBS and high dmg plus a proc at stats to boot. i hope no1 complained bout this (2 lazy to read all posts) but this would b uber to have. as soon has i 46 off to planar progression i go.
my bad lol

i take back my previous post on this weapon.. lol this is one 2hs that i say give to the warriors and rangers they would get better useage outta of it then a sk/ pally do to the fact that we are combat casters even though the low delay is nice dps both sks and pallys can get better ones like the elemental blade in PoW for sks and the sword from keeper of sorrows for a paladin
nice blade

Much has been said about whether this sword is worth it or not based on the delay, damage bonus, 2H damage bonus being messed up by the delay, proc, ratio, stat boosts, and whether or not there’s anything better out there…

Well, I don’t care about any of that type of debate because I got this blade last night, added a second proc augmentation to it, and it is the finest source of agro I have ever had the pleasure of using. For the first time, I never lost agro in my experience group even once. Neither the rogue, nor the wizard pulled the mobs off me. I was in tank Zen.

Are there better weapons? Sure there are… even the “best” weapon isn’t the best in every situation. Would I use this if I was not MT? No, definitely not. I’d go back to my Twisted Steel ******* Sword for decent DPS with no proc. Have I had a chance to try it in a Raid yet? Not yet, but I will. When it comes to holding agro as main tank in an XP or LDoN group though, I think I’ll be using this amazing blade for a *very* long time.

…plus, the graphic for it is *sweet*. I’ve had several people already come up to me in the PoK and ask what on earth that sword was I was holding. /grin

Amen. Damage from a tank class is just a bonus - your primary concern should be aggro, and a good tank has a weapon (like this) set aside to generate lots of it, and another weapon set aside to do damage.

I don't have a quality higher delay 2hdr to compare this to, however it seems pretty decent to me.

vs a named Warrior in EarthB 1700+ ATK lacking only Fury of the Ages of the AA abilities that improve 2H performance. Max haste but no Bard overhaste I parsed well over 150 DPS. Now this may have been a lucky fight, but it does output very decent damage.

This is not a particularly good weapon until you have fairly high ATK and the appropriate AA abilities.

Fury of the ages AA is increased chance to crit.
You're probably thinking of Punishing Blade AA that increase your chance at an extra 2 handed (blade or staff) attack, or possible feriocity which increases your chance at a double attack.

I use this 2h'r from PoFire, also use the Resp war maul from Tactics.

o For tanking in xp grp, this is a great wep. Stats and resists are great, proc and low delay add aggro. When you don't have a shammy in your grp, it's nice to get the HP from the 25 STA, as well as the HP+170. As for the pure melee stats, I use a primal wep anyway.

o For a raid encounter, use the maul, this wep will draw aggro from MT occasionally.

Regarding dmg output, there is no way around it, dmg from Knights is designed to be better for longer delay. However, in xp situations, our primary role is not dps at all, it's tank (so HP, AC and Aggro), so dmg takes a back seat. It does nice dmg, just less a bit relative to longer delay items. Believe me, when you're using a decent wep, and casting stun and flash of light and root, the wizzy and mage and shammy are telling you how much they like a pally tank.

As far as 1Hrs and shield, bah.. I have a damn nice Ornate 1Hr from Jiva in SRT, but our AA's (I have 180) give us bonuses for 2H attacks.

# Jun 27 2003 at 11:26 AM Rating: Decent
Main reason why people dont use 1h weps now since the shield mitigation bonus is due to the riposte dmg. But with a delay this low id think itd be better to have a 1h wep and shield for mitigation, *shrug* but then again not a lot of 1h weps parse out as well as this...not that my opinion matters a whole hell of a lot but paladins arent a high damage class, id rather have hps over dmg so id live thru AEs longer heh

and bah i meant dmg bonus

and sviss, only thing i can think of is punishing blade for rangers, pretty sure warriors get it but im not entirely sure heh.

I think I would have this 2hander if I was a Warrior.... It seems really nice and I mean, not many 1 hander add up to 170hp, 170 mana, 20wis/int, 25dex,sta, and 25 ac is also a biggy. Then you got saves, and a nice effect that does about 2-40dmg per tick. This weapon is sweet. I would definetly have this than two 1 handers.. But that is just me.

I doubt I will ever get this weapon, but it is a very nice weapon.
Most people who get the best gear normally play over 3 years.... I think. :P
Damage
# Jun 23 2003 at 2:10 AM Rating: Decent
Hmm I own an "Ornate Greatblade" and I have a "Resplendent War Maul" and I'm still not sure which actually does the most damage (regardless of dot proc) since the Ornate is pretty new.
I still need to do some damage parsing on similar mobs to figure it out.

Anyway, for all of you speaking about this issue I need to know somthing.
Does all 2hander capable classes have the same 2hander bonus as SHD/PAL does plus their AA possible extras?

I'm not entirely sure what you Wariors and Rangers have, bonus and AA wise regarding this.
What I do know tho, is that PAL/SHD have lots of stuff to add their damage output while using 2handers and if this is not the case for warriors then I can't really use warrior comments on this for anything constructive.

Another thing is that as far as I know there is a minimum to how low your delay can actually get so I guess this would also effect this weapon when being with say chanter/shammy haste contra having only your haste items plus self haste spell.

Further more, even tho this weapon has a dot proc I wouldn't even consider it as damage woth mentioning BUT doesn't biol blood lower resistance to fire with 100? If so this is a nice debuff that I'm sure lots of casters would appreciate /wave mages

I'm convinced...
# Jun 18 2003 at 11:42 PM Rating: Default
That this is basically one of the best 2hsers in terms of DMG/DLY ratios. If somebody can show me a better one and NOT call me a stupid newb, that'd be great.
RE: I'm convinced...
# Aug 04 2003 at 2:04 PM Rating: Excellent
The ratio doesn't matter if it's this fast. This is basically a big 1hs. It's simply too fast to be any good for tanking. Something like a Plankton Laced Greatsword would easily outdamage this, despite the ratio.

You seem to forget that damage bonus is not based off of the sword. Damage bonus is based off of the weilder. Ever wonder why the damage bonus looks so small to you but not someone else. Test, have someone link a sword to the guild chat. Then ask everyone what it says the damage bonus is. Then link it to a newb and ask them. Damage bonus has a great deal of importance when raid attendance is low and you are minus key classes. At that point damage bonus and delay become vital to dps. Even if the damage bonus is 14, 14 x 20 (rounds well say as compairison of raid mob battles) is 280 damage. Ya take in effect 15 (as an example but unlikely number) of the 30 peeps in raid have this damage bonus. Thats 4200, well thats 4200 id rather be doing to a mob than jack crap on a platter because I didnt bother to consider the damage bonus.

Bonus damage is nice, but it by no means should be the deciding factor in choosing a weapon. The bonus dmg is not added on to total weapon damage.. it is only added on after you hit so if you would do 200 with 14 bonus damage it would be 214. Not a huge deal. You also gotta figure in haste items (haste better effects higher damage weapons) and the simple fact that the more times you swing, the better chance you will hit a mob. I have 4 melee (ranger, monk, paladin, rogue) all of which are 50+ and the monk and paladin are 60+. I have a longblade of vitality for my 1hs which is 28/25 with magic damage added in and a windblade for 2hs. The longblade seems to be better all around when i fight a mob and compare the % hp i lose the use the WB and kill another mob. No, not the msot scienticfic... but when you fight 6 mobs and use wb on 3 and longblade on 3 and you lose more hp with windblade each time it becomes quit apparant which is better. Also i do not believe that damage formula is totally correct becuase i calculated it over and over and everytime it comes out that i do around 480 dps which is pure bs. That's 28,800 dmg per minute where in reality I do around 10k if i don't miss a lot and get some nice max hits.

All too true. I play a 65 Shadowknight, 70aa, and I (like my compatriots over at SK.org miss about 40% of all swings on exp type mobs, and am usually 50/50 or worse on raid level mobs. So yes, I dont think that people should bash some of these weapons just because they are under 28dly and, thus, have the low damage bonus. Bonus helps, but dont hang on to your Windblae if this drops, just because your Windblade has a higher damage bonus.
RE: Crap
# May 27 2003 at 6:59 AM Rating: Default
Bwaa? What you say of Damage Bonuses cannot be true. If the damage bonus is just added on to the end of whatever damage you would normally have done, how could I hit a mob for one HP with a damage bonus of 20 something? It seemes the least I could possibly hit for would be my damage bonus if what you say is true.

Yes I admit it, at lvl 54 i hit a mob for a single point of damage. :(

Was this with your Paladin? perhaps you were switching out weapons and punched. If you were using a duel weilding character, I'd have to say you hit with your offhand (no bonus.) Otherwise you did 1 point more damage than the mob's rune.
Damage bonus indeed gets added on after whatever number gets generated.

Only reason a pally or SK would loot this is to inflate their magelos.

How effective is this weapon?
# Apr 23 2003 at 6:00 AM Rating: Excellent
Using Melee Damage Formula wich is a good way of calculating average damage. I used that formula to get these numbers. No haste, no proc or anything else is baked in to this, just DMG, DLY and DMG Bonus.

Compared four 2hs swords with Ornate Greatsword 35/23,

Stone Etched War Sword 45/30 = 14% better
Bloodied Berserkers Blade 52/40 = 1% better
Norgetal 53/45 = 6% worse
Sword of Ssraeshza 52/42 = 2% worse

Remember, this is just comparing raw weapon damage. Procs and other extras is not calculated in this formula.

Ill take Serpants Bite over Boil Blood anyday :)

Edit: Calculated for a lvl 65 melee character

this is nice, SEWS is better IMO
# Apr 16 2003 at 7:16 PM Rating: Excellent
I have this weapon, I also have the Stone Etched War sword. The Ornate weapon does not agro well nor help hold it and the damage is very subpar. The low delay on this two hander with meanial dmg bonus does less damage than when I duel wield. My SEWS out damages this sword beyond comparison and the Rune proc is ultra irritating agro to the mob..they hate it since it is a beneficial buff to me. IE..ever see an enchanter live for long after casting rune on a tank, or chain casting it, mobs hate that. I'd say the Stone Etched War Sword is probably a better choice of nicest two hander in the game, though this sword is okay for those not Mting. General Druav Flamesinger also drops a nice melee mask..AC18, 120hps, bunch of other stats and a couple resists, also Aura of Battle effect on it.

To those that say this weapon isn't that good, due to low Delay, Bah, so your saying that you'd take something like Windblade over this? Not a chance, this weapon will deal a lot more damage, let alone the fact it has a proc and awsome stats.

Wrong about the damage. Any two-hander with sub 28 delay will lose a significant amount of their Damage Bonus and that value is what contributes the most to your damage output (not ratio or stats). You think just by looking at the stats this weapon is considered "uber", but thanks to some odd programming by SoE this weapon and any other two-hander like it is anything but.

RE: 2 THINGS
# Feb 14 2004 at 10:20 PM Rating: Default
Correct and wrong at the same time. With high enough attack a low delay two-hander will do a lot of damage because the damage bonus becomes a far less significant portion of the total damage per hit and ratio becomes the major factor. Some will even outperform the traditional slower weapons. e.g. Crowfooted lance 32/20 is lethal at 1800+ attack outputting the same damage with it's 1.6 ratio as 1.5 ratio weapons like BoW or SEWS, and this comes very close to that.
RE: 2 THINGS
# Feb 10 2003 at 11:22 AM Rating: Good
How many of you people are going to post? Less than 28 delay on a two-hander = crap-*** damage bonus. Your minimum hit goes to hell. And Boil Blood? You're insane if you think a 480 DoT is worth anything compared to any DD, lifetap or rune proc which are common enough on the PoP two-handers that *don't* suck.
