I think these will rock!

I have recently started playing a necro, but have been previously playing SK's... this is what I personally have noticed:

1) In my time playing SK's, I have found Dex to be more than benificial in casting than people give credit. Yes, it DOES seem to help reduce interruptions.

2) Dex ALSO makes an item with an effect proc alot more... take a Dark Reaver, for instance. The only reason I even use one is to get the nice siphon. With lower Dex I would go through about 2 to 3 fights before a proc. Once I got my Dex higher (only by 30 points!!!) it will almost always proc within the first half of a fight.

3) Negative Charisma DOES seem to help my fears sticking... I have an Iksar Pariah Mask (5ac, -25cha) and have taken it off several times and HAVE noticed a change... as well as putting all my +charisma items on and trying it. The difference between 25 charisma and 95 charisma was awesome, which brings me to:

4) I have noticed that the low charisma also seems to help my SK land his Darkness spells more often than the higher charisma. One thing that I have noticed with my necro is that his Darkness doesn't land NEAR as frequently as my SK... so I ran around until I found a rotting Iksar Pariah Mask (they are no-drop) and covered my scaley face with it... I don't seem to have near as many resists on Darkness now, as well as the fact that my fear-kiting abilities have seemed to have risen immensly!

Yes, I am trying to get these for my necro, while getting an easy blue bubble out of only 3 kills in Dalnir... and I am soloing (hit 37 2 nights ago in here!) DON"T KNOCK THE DEX AND NEGATIVE CHARISMA FOR NECROS! Try it for yourself... and NO, you probably WONT notice any significant change from only a 5 charisma difference... which seems to be how people conduct their tests. Get the mask and try it like I did.

Perhaps, but I'll take my Kobold-Hide Boots any day; a possible reduction in interruptions vs extended duration on DoTs and Roots is a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned.
dex actually helps casters quite a bit

Aye, Dex does assist in not getting interrupted.. now whether there are lvls of effect I am not as sure. But with a brn Chitin protector on my druid and multikiting, there is a HUGE difference with or without the dex.... normal dex on her is 95 and gets interrupted quite a bit... with the 10 dex on the bcp, she rarely gets interrupted... if ever.

If you do not believe in the benefit of dex as a caster, please give it a shot. It might just surprize you and will certainly help out in a group situation if you are needed to cast through a bit of pummeling.

I got these shoes for my necro last night... i really like them and the 10dex is what sold me on them.

Dex regaining casting is NOT a myth, nor is neg Cha. Dex is important to necros because they need to regain casting to stay alive in critical situations with lifetaps in close combat. Also, the neg Cha hit DOES affect your fear. It's completely idiotic to think it doesn't. Since + cha helps mezzing and charming, why not neg cha help in fearing? Simple is that, anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about, and has never played a Necro correctly.

It's not idiotic at all to think that charisma has little or no effect on Fear. Especially since it has been confirmed by VI that it doesn't.

Since + cha helps mezzing and charming, why not neg cha help in fearing?

Would totally ***** enchanters who try to Fear, no? Wouldn't it also ***** a necro who bumped up his charisma in order to better charm undead?

These are nice considering VI added more fizzles. (dex does effect fizzling doesn't it? or am I adding more the the dex urban legend?!) Although the -5cha will effect your spells landing.. you need to take these all into account when equipping

Dexterity has no effect whatsoever on fizzle rate. Your skill in that spell type (Evocation, etc.) and the level of the spell are what effects fizzle rates. The old dexterity "urban legend" was that dexterity affected a caster's ability to channel through interruptions, but that has long since been proven to be a myth. +10 dexterity (which is probably the single most worthless stat in EQ, by the way) on a necro item is basically worthless.

The -5 charisma also has no positive benefit. There is no *scientific* evidence whatsoever that I have seen that negative charisma affects fear spells, and I believe that Verant has even admitted that neg charisma has no effect on fear spells.

Grave Sandals (like most of the other armor pieces that drop in Dalnir) are basically junk. Shadowbound Boots are MUCH easier to get (the quest for them is super easy), and are arguably better than Grave Sandals due to the 15hp on them.

The person who was responsible for the stats on armor-type items in Dalnir was apparently clueless. None of the armor drops in this zone are worthwhile statistically for the level it takes to get them.

51 necromancer on lanys tval here, DEX DOES help on interupts, not fizzle rate tho, as harbaugh had half of it right, and CHA has no effect, with 51 levels of necromancer experience, and having cha at 24 and as high as 139, there was, repeat, WAS no difference in how fear or any other spells landed. Bout the only thing the difference in cha did was drop my prices or raise them accordinly. in my 51 levels I unfortunately by passed Dalnir, but am gonna explore it very soon. Just my couple coppers.

Wow, you should seriously consider playing something else Harbaugh.

Dex has no effect on fizzle rate? Wrong.

Dex is probably the single most worthless stat in EQ? MORON! Ever heard of a Rogue? Next time you see one ask them what Dex does, Because you have no clue.

Neg Cha does have a positive factor in Fearing, which if you ever even played EQ, you'd know a very powerful Necro tactic is Fear Kiting

Shadowbound boots are arguably better? AC 4 hp 15 mana 15? First of all, post lvl 35, 2 int is more than 15 mana (calculated from 188 INT to 190 INT) Plus one more AC, Plus 10 Dex, Plus Neg5 Cha
Yeah, that's pretty close. Stupid.

And the person who wrote up the Dalnir drops was probably thinking about people who weren't wearing Blackened Crystalline Robes at level 4. It's good lvl 30 armor, IMO. I lost a corpse for my monk at lvl 26 and I spent a lot of time in Dalnir for the monk drop armor, because it's great at lvl 30.

You should really think about what you post before you post it, and try to play the game for more than a week before you start Infecting the world with your moronic ideas and opinions.

I normally dont dissect posts, but sometimes I can't resist.
First off, on the dex comment he was talking about dex for NECROS, not dex for rogues. Cha has no noticeable impact on fearing, one way or the other. I also seem to recall seeing something on dev corner (before it turned in to the POS that it is now,) stating that neg cha did not change fear.
Shadowbound boots are arguably better. At the level where you would get more then 15 mana from 2 int, kobold boots would be a much better choice for the ext. affliction focus effect they have. One ac is not going to make a difference, especially not for a necro. 10 dex may be valuable ( I dont feel like getting in to the fizzle/not fizzle argument at the moment,) but at the level where these would be better than kobold boots, it will not make a huge difference, you will still be interupted more often than not. The cha couldnt matter less, just take them off for selling.
Dalnir drops do suck, look at some of the stuff from LoY ( I know this is older then LoY, but still, dalnir stuff sucks compared to SoL or even velious drops.) How did a monk lose his corpse at level 26? You dont know how to play your class.
I can (and did, after a nasty mage COTHed me) recover a corpse from the middle of neriak on a level 20 iksar monk. No zone you should be hunting in at 26 is harder to CR in then neriak FQ without invisibility. Also; before you post on allakhazams, please take an English class, you need it. Grammar doesnt need to be perfect, but your post was painful. As for thinking before you post? Pot calling the kettle black.

isn't dex used for proc...

then again what the hell is a necro going to be doing with a proc weapon...

*shrug* just my thought, i remeber with my cleric (hehe the the hell is a cleric doing in combat?) i had my velious warhammer and 150 some dex (halfling cleic with some shammy dex buff or something) was making it proc every 2 hits or something.. but then again i really wasn't any good dmg support... but hey? why not?

Well, my Necro was using a Smoldering Brand from level 20 to 37... that 14DD proc was often useful when thumping a mob from behind while fear-kiting, and did seem to happen more with DEX increases. Not that I deliberately increased DEX, but several items I picked up had DEX increases as well other more useful stats.

Dex doesn't affect interupts? Sorry to say, but what planet you living on? Get the Warlord in Karnors Castle beating on you while casting with just your basic dexterity. Then try it again with a Boon of the Garou and the 100 dex increase it gives you added to 100 dexterity unbuffed and try it.

First case I could not get even a snare off (this is with channeling and casting skills maximized) betweent eh hits and knockback; after getting the Boon (and still getting hit as often and knocked back as much) I got every single spell through unless he got a bash in that actually stunned me.

Granted that only increase dexterity by 10 isn't going to be noticable; get 10 items that give each gave 10 dexterity though and you might see a real difference.
RE: Fizzle
# Apr 30 2003 at 4:22 PM Rating: Good
If he got a bash that stunned you, you did NOT get your spell off. as soon as you are stunned the spell stops casting. there is no interupt check.

Sorry to tell ya... dont know about the dex thing, but your promoting the negative cha "urban legend". Been parsed and proved cha has no effect on fearing, etc. Necros only get neg cha items to "suit" their class. Enchanters have higher "quality" of the fear line of spells, and they always try and have high cha.
Not bad

Nice feet items are so hard to find. Even with the ever-annoying charisma minus, these arent bad.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 19 2001 at 1:17 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If merchants over charge so much for items, then this 870 plat for them is far from true. While in Freeport one of the merchants that sell necro spells had them for 363 plat, too bad I just bought my stein of maggok.

This drops off Lumpy Goo on 2nd level of Dalnir. After being there for about 15 hours (not all at once), I saw only one pair drop....mine! :)

Alot of other boards have postings saying you can get these off of a Sarnak Courier in Ill Omen and in Karnor's Castle also. I killed the Sarnak Courier once and just got the No Drop fist. Who knows.
