How about upgrading the description? The effect is now Protection of the Wild, which is a step up from Warder's Protection:

Spell info
# Oct 05 2004 at 2:20 AM Rating: Decent
I've double and triple checked.

at level 56, my ranger recieves +94 to ATK with the clicky warder's protection.

Everything else is correct. But the attack bonus for warder's protection is much higher than noted above.

Also, for those of you saying this isn't so good - 1) I also wish it were better, maybe some regen effect or something... or better dex would have been nice. However:
a) clicky uses no mana. I rarely keep my ATK and damage shield buffs up, simply because they don't last long enough and use up too much mana.
b) less spells to memorize. Prior to recieving this spell, it saves me from memorizing three spells. The only bad thing is that it seems to be a self-only cast.

so, there are a few things to knock about it... okay, its not the best armour in the game by a long shot. but its still fantastic armour, the best i can get ahold of right now.

Rangers get a bonus. Whatever attack a spell or item says it gives us, we get 1.3 of that. So, if an item says it gives 10 attack, we get 13. If a spell says we get 30, we get 39. That's why is says 70, but you got 91.

Well, I don't want to complain about this hauberk cause it is a nice piece of armor, to be sure. I'm just disapointed that the buff on it is incompatible with both Call of Earth AND Strength of Nature. Using this chest with it's effect on, I actually lose AC versus just wearing a Tae Ew tunic. Yes, my attack is higher and if I manage my aggro right, the couple ac points difference shouldn't be huge, but AC is very valuable to a ranger none the less.
tae ew chain
# Apr 23 2004 at 10:43 AM Rating: Default
I will keep my Tae Ew Chain armor for 4k plat. This is better armor but not worth 160k plat for it comparatively. Clickable is a big deal if you have a problem running out of mana...which i dont think most of rangers do...and the extra points in stats and 50 extra hp and 5 ac doesnt add up to 155k difference in price. Put a clickable TP to Gfay like Tolans armor on this and yes I am all over it.
RE: tae ew chain
# Apr 23 2004 at 10:47 AM Rating: Default
sorry LFAY TP like Tolans Breast Plate armor. Any TP would be ok or self evac....whatever. Chanters get clickable Tranquility for gosh sakes....give us Rangers something to write home about on this armor. Rogues get haste Gloves for pity's sakes.
This was all changed
# Mar 25 2004 at 3:59 PM Rating: Decent
Sony altered the Planes, allowing anyone over 55 to enter PoV PoS CoD etc without flags, this means the quest guy will talk to anyone over 55. This is because the EQ program has granted lvl 55+ players automatic tier 2 flagging.

Basically what im getting at is you have to be 55 minimum to complete the ornate armor.
Effect not good
# Mar 11 2004 at 4:50 AM Rating: Default
I got a 65 rng why couldnt the effect be protection of the wild no use for me to use a inferior spell sure u save mana but again we get jipped. I got ornate legs and the effect on those is much better than these. would rather get the 1492 point ldon ranger armor. just my 2 cents.

Usefulness of effect
# Jan 27 2004 at 3:02 AM Rating: Decent
Effect not terribly useful, at least for non-twinks.

A) WP lasts a ridiculously long time already, not having to mem and cast it means litte. It's cheap to buy too.

B) For mains at least, they're generally going to be lvl 62 before they realistically get this. Sure, you CAN save up and buy it, but if you're a main lvls 55-61, odds are the cash is a pretty big problem. And IF you are lvl 62, then you have CotR, SoT and CoP, which total out to be significantly better than WP as long as you have slots for them.

One thing is that DS, unless you want to cast Shield of thorns(which is a pretty nice spell IMO), you lose a bit there.

Effect Level?

The description above says that the level for the effect is 50. However, WP is a level 60 spell and there is a post further down here (Daggerwolf) that says that the effect is only useful at level 60 and 61. Can anyone confirm when the effect kicks in?

I'm currently level 52 and I'd like to know whether I'm going to get my money's worth before I plunk down 100K+ to replace my Tae Ew Leggings.
RE: Effect Level?
# Mar 30 2004 at 3:53 PM Rating: Decent
The reason that WP is only useful at level 60-61 is because you get the spell at 60 and then get better spells at 62. The effect is good for anyone under 62, so if you get it at 55, you get more levels of use out of it.

As a Ranger I must say that if I ever win the Ornate Chain Breastplate I WILL SELL IT. The effect is completely useless. The Shaman BP has SLTW--- VERY usefull. The Rogue BP has Arcane Shielding--- Very usefull.

Warder's Protection!? Does this make sense to anyone?

Keep smoking it, this BP is AWESOME!! I could have hoped for some better stats, but the effect rules!! Don't over-look what +70 to attack can do for you! That's like Vengence 14!! It's like fighting as if you were 5+ levels higher than you actually are! More likely to hit, more likely to hit for higher damage, the DS is a nice bonus too and I'll take 13 more AC over it's 50 AC ANY day! If it stacks with Vengence as well, and I bet it does, then you're really a killer!

RE: Huh?
# Nov 26 2003 at 12:06 AM Rating: Good
If your going to reject this bp just because its effect sucks then its either because you got something better than 50ac/100hps on your chest slot or your just a moron. But yeah I guess we rangers are getting jipped on our quest bp click effects. I mean giving us call of earth for our velious bps when every other melee class gets invigorate? I've checked up on our other ornate pieces and I already feel ripped off. I guess the effect may be good if your the soloing type. Maybe the only pieces I'd consider getting are the bp, arms and boots for FT3. Theres a lot of stuff with better stats that drop in VT. So unless if your rich and can't raid vt then go and buy this ornate stuff :)

RE: Huh?
# Dec 09 2003 at 7:12 PM Rating: Good
livestone or farwater are both better, and no drops as well are better. the effect IS useless as the spell Warder's Protection is only usefull on your self and only at level 60 and 61. At 62 you get Str of Tunare (and then Spirit of Predator at 64) and can get more ATK by stacking that with Call of Pred.

Now, if the effect was Protection of the Wild, or one of the other high spells rather than one that is quickly obsolete the effect would be far more useful.

in short, ya, better of selling for PP and buying some other upgrade.

especially considering this BP is no drop. People seem to always miss that when reviewing items. If you spend 100k on an item, if it's droppable, then you can recoup some if not all of the money back (effectively you rented the item for the difference), but if it's no drop then that money is Gone.

I don't mind spending huge amounts of money for an item i need as i know i can get my money back whenever i need. 100k for this item, which personally devalues once you reach 62+ is just crazy.

Waste of an effect
# Jul 22 2003 at 6:37 PM Rating: Excellent
I don't mind the AC and Stats, altho it could be amp'd slightly, it fits the ranger's job of DPS, but what I dont understand is why a Tier 3 item would have WP on it. Anyone who even goes to Tier 3 is atleast 62, and at 62, only reason a ranger would even think about using WP is cuz they are lazy, but this BP is definately not some item you hand to an alt and by the time you hit 65 theres PotW which is our 4 ranger/druid buffs combined with exact same stats. So after all that blabbing, it comes down to a useless effect, I can see putting useless effect on a smaller item like glove but on a BP?. They should make the programmers play EQ more...

Ranger AC
# Jul 13 2003 at 4:07 AM Rating: Default
For all you that dont know. On the higher tier mobs they are walled 90 percent of the time which leaves archery useless so u ahve to melee. Thats alott of the reason we get all teh melee abilities. So yes the AC helps some but it all coems to AA abilities. If your never gonna go to teh elemental lvl woudlnt worry about maxing the melee skills, do the innnate dex and planar power because your main thing will be shooting. anyway wanted to adress the AC thing sorry to ramble

He asked if there was a robe, didn't say it was ornate or elemental.

Btw, both are better than this ranger chest item

Nice but...
# Mar 17 2003 at 1:26 PM Rating: Default
First off, yes the armor class is nice. I tank in PoV all the time if the need arises. I just have the puller pull, I'll root it and snare it. The slower will slow it, then I engage. So no biggies.

However, the rest of the stats need to be worked on. Why would I want 10 wisdom?? Make it 7 wisdom and give me like 10 dex or stamina..even strength. Resists are nice (tho no magic) and the hps/mana is good.

And what's up with the effect?? Its useless. If it was Call of the Rathe (upgrade to Velious even) that would be nice and save me 200+ mana.

Need to up some of this armor IMO ;)

I would have to agree about the effect, give it something better... BUT not the 10 wis, we need that... thats something rangers lack alot of... we sacrifice wis for better melee stats... so teh 10 wis is a good thing for those of us that play fighter/mage style.. those that dont do much other then snare and buff then mana almost means nothing... but try and bow kite a mob in PoP without alot of mana =)

ACTUALLY...

I dont know why everyone is saying you must be tier 3 flagged or lvl 60 or any of the other misinformation i've heard...

I just did the combine with the ornate leather bracer with a druid at 55 who had absolutely no flags what-so-ever...

Perhaps it was changed, or perhaps everyone just assumed you needed the tier 3 flagging, regardless my druid is very happy right now...

Id say anyone interested in ornates without the proper lvl or flags to actually aquire the patterns (i.e. purchased, traded for or passed onto a twink)... go to bor... hail him... see if he gives you the quest... if he does... then ur gtg! :-D

If i could do it at 55... i wonder if it could be done lower... (lol... imagine twinks running around in full ornate *shudders*)

nice BP horrible effect
# Jan 21 2003 at 5:37 AM Rating: Decent
VI really needs to change this BP effect. sad but WP was really a SoL expansion deal. SoT CoP and CoR will net you more attack than WP. since SoT and COR are ether parchment spells any ranger will have both in no time if they have a PoV flag. it would be really nice if it had at least SoP cause that spell is in high demand. As for risk vs reward even PotW would be justified too.

RE: effect sucks
# Jan 30 2003 at 12:44 PM Rating: Default
Ah yes, Ac.. just what a ranger needs for all the tanking we do, is that it? I'm sure when all the MT's on a raid die and Rallos Zek himself is lookin for a fight, that 13 less AC than plate is really gonna save us? Maybe if you knew anything about rangers, you'd know AC means jack.. try looking at other stats, we'd want a bp with atk buff like SoP cause that's what we use, atk.. for dmg. Let the meatwagons die with their high ac.
RE: effect sucks
# Jul 15 2003 at 10:20 PM Rating: Excellent
Hmmm you must be one of the rangers I see dying all the time whenever you try to group. I tank in PoV and elsewhere regularly and AC does matter...HP and resists matter too of course, but I can see the difference between 1250ac and 1300ac and again at 1350ac.

RE: effect sucks
# Jul 26 2003 at 4:37 AM Rating: Default
true ,BUT if the ranger is tanking, there is something wrong. a pally,sk and warrior can do a much better job, while the ranger is far more efficient as a damage dealer.
that's the point most rangers look at.

I agree with you fully, but two points...

1) Warroir, Pally, and SK's aren't always around, I see that in LDoN a lot especially.

2) Killing a creature faster means it can deal less damage(obviously because dead creatures don't deal damage). A creature dealing less damage means the cleric uses less mana! While we really aren't meant to take the damage, realize that dealing it faster than the other classes IS an effective tool as well. Ideally someone ELSE is taking the damage while we deal it, but unfortunately that isn't always the case....

Other people on this post need to STOP ******** and realize what our PURPOSE is and that there are a lot of Rangers that will never own anything this good or that this may be the best they ever get. Not everyone is part of a raiding guild or a raiding guild capable of some of the uber drops.

my ranger has about 1290 ac and 6k hp's,outside of teir3 or big targer mobs there isnt much that he cant tank. he can effectively tank anything that hits for about 500 or less, and most times he slows it with earthcall before the shaman or chanter,if i got this i would probable not sell it,but i would not buy it

I'll have to agree with you there. But isn't there more than once set of plane armour for rangers cause for wars there is elemental, ornate, and tranquility. correct me if I'm wrong, not flame me, I'm just a newb who will never get this. 50AC, they could AT LEAST put on 65, there is a wzard robe or something with like 60 ac on it...what was VI thinking

Thank you, I have been enlightend. I didn't really understand the sets of plane armour too well and since it took a little while for the elemental armour to get put in i thought that this was the top of the line. The 60 ac robe drops in Vex Thal so go figure thought it was somewhere else.
