To clarify on damage and crits

There has been a lot of misinformation about this subject, so let me clarify for you.

Anger of XX is UP TO 23% damage increase
Fury of XX is UP TO 30% damage increase
Wrath of XX is UP TO 35% damage increase

E'ci is cold based
Ro is fire based
Druzzil is magic based
Solusek is all elemental type based (also, Anger of Solusek is 25% increase, rather than 23%)

These only work on nukes, hence the "instant" part.

If you happen to land a critical blast, the multiplier is added AFTER the critial is made. This multiplier is made to the BASE damage, not the critical damage.

To explain:

Strike of Solusek is a fire based wizard nuke with a base damage of 2740.

With an Anger of Ro item, this base is a MAXIMUM of 3370.

With a critical blast WITHOUT an Anger of Ro item, the maximum damage is 5480.

With a critcal blast AND an Anger of Ro item, the maximum damage is 6110.

Bard songs or a spell buff (Iceflame of E'ci, for example) can increase the damage further. The item and the song/spell stack. The song does NOT stack with the spell, however.

Anyhow, I hope this helps!

I Think your a little mistaken, I hit a crit for 6500 last night in RoV. With Sos, and with a Dusty girdle. In theory a 3300 nuke can turn to 6600 with a crit. I got luck and got a 6524.

According to Lucy, spell damage increase for Damage of Ro is 25% not 23%.
Procing damage

Ok, On the Focus Effect info section, it says its:

4: Limit: Instant spells only

Am I correct to interpret that this only effects "Proc'ing" weapon Proc Damage?

No, instant EFFECT spells (nukes) as opposed to Damage over time (DoTs). Doesn't have to be instant cast time, just all damage done in one hit.

Also typically, item effects don't increase weapon procs, at least in my experience.
RE: Procing damage
# Mar 23 2004 at 2:25 PM Rating: Default
Focus effects do not effect MOST procs. It works like so:

Spells have a level (clericlvl65 or whatever in lucy). Procs do too. MOST procs are listed as "lvl127" for ALL classes. Some procs are class specific (ranger / pally buff procs, Hand of the Gods, et.) and thus only listed as "clericlvl127."

NOW, AA has no level limit. If you get SCF, it will effect any direct damage, instant duration spell you cast. BUT all focus effects have a limit of level 65, so if it is a "lvl127" proc no focus item will effect them. Weapons that proc an existing spell (turgor's insects is the only such proc I can think of, but I know there are some DD procs that are actual class spells) would be effected by both AA and Focus Items.

SO, if I had SCF I could crit proc Hand of the Gods, but if I had an ID4 item it would not effect the amount of damage done because HotG is a "lvl127" effect.
RE: Procing damage

actually i believe a weapon proc would be covered by a focus effect if the proc is a spell that is currently scribed in your spellbook.

which means it wont take effect in most cases

This is true - my Shaman procs for 320dam with a Delightful Orb of Forgotten Magic, although he wears a Dusty Girdle of Reformed Sand. However, my wizzie with the same combo procs for 384dam (Ice Shock is wizzie spell).

The Spell Casting Fury AA, DOES affect this proc for my Shaman tho - he now crits for 531dd with SCF2.

Kinda off the point, but the same works double with leaching procs too. With critical dd/heal AAs (or as a class that already has one or the other) you can crit your procs, and crit the leeching heal. The base crit dd is 33% addition, and crit heal is 100%. So a 50 hp life leech proc can double crit - hitting for 66, and healing for 133.

I use to use the dagger that would proc a 300pt fire hit with my mage, can't recall the name but mage only and drops in Chardok. Anyway, wearing my focus bracer I've had it hit for generally higher, as well as I've gotten crits off of it before.

So at least in this one case ID items did effect the weapon proc.

it's only 25% at most... like improved damage IV, except possibly 5% more damage than ID4

25% more dmg is great wtf are you smoking...

if you made 25 bucks an hour would a 25% raise be nice?

31.25$ an hour or your 25$ normally...i dunno its only 25% >_>

the point is....3000 dmg * .25 = better then just 3000dmg
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 06 2003 at 12:06 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST ITEMS IN GAME! It is the only thing with anger of solusk which saves 25% mana on all DD spells. This Focus effect raises the damage of ALL DD spells (other than the wizard dragon and giant bane spells), doesn't effect DoTs. There are 4 of these Focus effects, Anger of E'ci is cold-based, Anger of Ro is Fire based, Anger of Druzzil is Magic based, and Anger of Solusek is All spells (basically, it's 25% Improved Damage IV).
RE: NICE!
# Apr 10 2003 at 3:48 PM Rating: Default
So, to elaborate a little more on this...

You have a spell that does 1k in damage. 25% on top of that is 250, total damage being 1250 EVERY time you cast that 1k nuke. This mask is a dream for wizards. Makes Strike of Solusek and Garrison's Supperior Sunder well worth getting at this point. Yes, I do play a wizard, so I am partial, but everyone knows what this is designed for... to replace Improve Damage on a variable table and make it a srteady 25% non-variable. Although anyone with this thing is to be congratulated. This coupled with some mana saver item would be awesome.

Its random damage increase UP TO 25%. It stacks with other forms of damage increase (DMG IV, bard song, etc.) up to a max cap of 50%.

Its a very nice effect but not quite as powerful as you thought.

This does not stack with ID4. The highest modifier for spells you have is the one that takes effect. That is, if you had a mage summoned nuke booster (20% more damage) and this mask (25% more damage), only the 25% more damage to spells would apply. The only thing that this will stack with is Riz (64 bard song).

Also, as someone noted above, the amount of extra damage done is variable. In the case of this mask, the amount of damage done by a nuke should be (on average) 12.5% more. Whereas the summoned mage ID4 bracelet provides on average 10.0% more damage.

Pbipp -

I'm sorry, but you have been misinformed. The effect on this item (Anger of Soulsek) DOES NOT reduce mana cost; it only increases the damage of all non-AE, non-bane direct damage spells by 25%.

Risk vs. Reward?
# Dec 05 2002 at 12:49 PM Rating: Decent
The Risk may not seem to equal the reward but in EQ its not just Risk/Reward... Its Time+Risk/Reward.

That is part of the reason that VT loot is better than even a lot of PoP loot. VT is quite hard but take so LONG to get your guild in. That is why the loot is so good.
RE: Risk vs. Reward?
# Jan 23 2004 at 6:28 PM Rating: Default
Actually its been somewhat proven that all the guilds who have gone through vt taking the time are more likely to get PoP enabled then if someone worked their way straight through PoP...

Druids / Shm / Clerics get some of the best items in the game from AHR.....

VT isn't hard at all, its actually alot easier then so many think...

When SoL was released it changed the high end zone into longer raids, make everyone focus as a whole. While PoP is geared at short and intense battles.

See the two expansions taught 2 different things.
While VT helped guildies to pay attention during a long an tedious fight with GREAT rewards might i remind you (5 named are right near each other)
An AHR has the best lewts but is not even the hardest mob there! With that said, VT does still hold some of the best gear in the game. But now you have people saying "Well you can get better gear than what comes out of SSRA / VT then in Tier 3 + zones. Well with PoP your warriors hp is like a yo-yo, higher is better, an AC does do but often times just not enough of what hp can do.

BTW RZTW does drop one of the best 2hs in the game for a warrior...an has some other great l13t to boot, an to be honest he really isn't "that" hard....
Sounds scary...
# Dec 03 2002 at 5:48 PM Rating: Default
...it's too bad they don't have an actual mask graphic for something like this, would look really badass/scary.

#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 03 2002 at 5:55 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hahaha this is hardly nice for the RVR. This drops off Rallos Zek, 3rd tier but still, should be better, and I doubt youll see one anytime soon anyway.
RE: permission to drool profusly?

Actually have to agree with a few of the other posts. As a member of a guild working our way through the flags and encounters the loot is secondary. Its the flags and ability to advance to the higher unseen zones. And yes the Afterlife encounter was admittedly buggy. I dont doubt it will be fixed in the upcomming patch making the risk more inline with the reward.

you don't call this nice? Wow, if your gear is so good that this isn't a nice item, Why do you play the game anymore? I mean it would be evident that you have the best gear in the game, and I know you don't stick around to bless us with your wonderful personality......(did you get the sarcasm in that last part?)
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 04 2002 at 1:20 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) First of all , if I do have a better face slot item than this, why should I stop playing? Its not all about the loot which is apparently why you are playing. And hows this for nice? You dont like me, bite me

It *is* a good mask ... but its problem is that the encounter is overwhelmingly difficult. Afterlife - the guild that received this - referred to this mask as "mediocre" themselves.

While its better than anything that 98% of players will wear in their face slot ... an encounter that takes one of the strongest EQ guilds on any server nearly 10 attempts to complete shouldn't drop "one of" the best items. It should drop the best items.

And it doesn't.

Took Blood of the Spider on the Rathe only two attempts. Just because Afterlife didn't get the strategy right on the first nine times doesn't mean the item isn't comperable to the kill. The strategy is actually quite easy... however be warned, he quints 1300 damage unslowable. Rot is at 1 second, initiated before you enter combat, by 10 seconds.

Yeah, funny you don't mention the event was nerfed before BoTS killed it, not to mention they more than likely knew how AL and FoH had killed the event.

Yes and no to dropping the best mask in game. It is a hard encounter I'm sure..but there is harder yet to come..and better mask to have.
