ref:the proc messing up Mez - a question

I am a 62 rogue who would very much like to have this in her main hand, as I have my epic in main atm. The guild I am in is just at the level of doing Thunderclap now - tried him the other day a couple of times and wiped when when he was 45%. We lacked DPS on the day unfortunetly, and when the two BLs bought the dust so went out Paragon and Ferocity. *sighes* So just fine tuning, worked it now and are going to go back for some payback soon. Really good fun. (Tried Hailstorm too but not quiet ready for him yet *drools at his 17/24 piecer*)

My question is this: people have been grumbling among other things about, about the proc. (Yes it does seem rather useless but then rogue doesn't want to grab agro anyhow.) If a you need to swap target to an unmezzable mob but your proc has gone off on the first mob who is now about to be mezzed - how would you handle this situation?

I had two thoughts - often you can off tank a mob with the SA taking ago and the MA switching to new mob. That would surely help solve the problems of "oh damn my dot proc has gone off". The other thought was if the rogue's proc broke the mez, how likely would it be that the mob jump on the rogue or the chanter that mezzed it? IF the mob jumps on the rogue then surely the rogue can move away from the fighting group and take a death for the good of the raid, so giving a chanter enough time to deal with the broken mezz. I personally would have a hotkey set up with the info to the raid saying "sorry my proc seems to have doted %T the mez will keep being broken" so the raid party knows, and you can just hit the hot key if this situation arises? In my exp communication is paramount in this sort of situation?

Any thoughts? - how would you deal with the situation? I really would like a dam 16 weapon and this is the most likely upgrade that I will get for my rogue for a while - bearing in mind I don't play the "uber game". Sensible comments please :)

Frankly, I don't use escape that much. I plan ahead.. as for the dot, if you have a druid, shammy, necro, or just about any other class that casts dots in your group, the proc off this sticker isnt going to hurt mez. What is this with switching targets? Maybe I'm just not in groups that need to do that very often or something. Yeah, you're fighting xxx that's mezzable, and you get an unmezzable xxx add...but kill everyone on your raid, comon now.. like every necro and druid hasn't dotted the $*#(( out of it by the time your shank procs. If you're so worried about escape , switch it out with a non-dotting sticker when you're fighting something you're not sure if your group can handle.

You dont use escape that much? lol... I use it all the time on raids. When you are taking flagging mobs that are ROUGH.. we frequently whipe till we get our tactic down. It it wasn't for escape I would die and possibly have no one else to do CR (to speed recovery time). I can think of allot of toughie mobs I would rather do without a DoT proc.. AoW, CoD flag Ring mobs, Etc. I WOULD however like any instant proc to replace this DoT, like a lifetap proc or an instant DD one.

If you don't use escape, your guild isnt pushing the envelope..

Just augment the weapon with a DD proc. I think the augment proc will override the natural one. Could be wrong, but I believe this to be true.

As far as I understand it, augment procs will add onto natural procs (ie you will be proccing two different effects with one item)

Or so I'm told :) I'm just a cleric
RE: whatever
# Feb 26 2004 at 7:38 PM Rating: Decent
To clarify: each proc will be handled seperately. IE the probability that the weapon procs one thing, and the probability of it procing the other are seperate calulations. So, no it will not override the origional proc, but they wont both happen whenever the weapon procs. Maybe once in a great while they'll both go off, but that's not too likely.
Nice Weapon

I just received this weapon in a pick up raid. For some reason, two of these dropped at the same time. We defaulted one to the only rogue in the raid, and the second one went to open lotto. I was fortunate enough to with this beautiful piercer. Even though as a ranger I will have no use for the backstab modifier, I have ben EXTREMELY pleased with it's performance. Must say it's an outstanding weapon, and given the relative lack of difficulty obtaining it based on its performance and stats, It is one of the "sleeper" weapons around. ENJOY

# Jul 21 2003 at 5:51 PM Rating: Decent
Aye, I have heard this as well. Because it procs a DoT, in the event the group wipes and you are up to use escape...next tick you get aggro again so your escape is blown. I know a couple rogues who are looking for a new main hander atm.

PoP Poisons with this weap
# Jun 27 2003 at 5:47 PM Rating: Excellent
Ok, folks. I have a tip for you :) If you are worried about aggro, what you need to do is work your poison making skill. You can make procing poisons that lower you on the hate list. These poisons will help with the proc on his weapon to keep you low on the hate list, keeping you alive and the aggro on your tank where it should be....Just a suggestion. I have my poison making at 240 now, and can make all the PoP poisons successfully most of the time. Good luck!
RE: PoP Poisons with this weap
# Dec 10 2003 at 1:13 PM Rating: Default
You need a clue bro.. all the anti hate poisons etc wont stop reagro if you have escaped and the mob has a DoT on him that was placed there by you. As for the agro from the DoT, forget it.. it is a hugely ineffectual DoT that is very poor in performance and low in agro. Think about it.. heat blood is a 17 hp a tick DoT.. If you have rujakin poison or vampire kiss on the dagger instead, which are 125dd and 75dd respectively, you would get more dmg out of the dagger in less time and yet be able to still escape if things turned bad. This proc is totally useless in the grand scheme of things and only serves to make rogues second guess using it in questionable situations.

first off i wanna say this is my friends name...second off, damn nice weapon not just for rogues either. Takeing into consideration how much dmg bonus is on that thing as well. about the proc and heat blood line holding alot of agro....take it from a 53 SK's point of view...heat blood doesnt hold ****, if it was darkness rogues would pull all kinds of agro, but a low lvl heat blood spell wont do **** if u know how to sneak/hide whatever the **** u guys do when a mob turns around to attack u but for some reason they dont find ya, got plenty of rogue friends that can lose agro just as quick as they get it =).

Take it from a lvl 64 Rogues point of view.
You know nothing about PoP nor rogues. This is a clear upgrade to the rogue epic. I suppose that if a 2hs came along that was an upgrade to your epic... that had say a 15% mod to harm touch... that you would have no problem seeing say a rogue get it?

He said the proc shouldn't be a problem for a rogue, whats the harm?
RE: hmm
# Oct 13 2003 at 1:50 AM Rating: Decent
Harm is bad info :P

1. Proc does cause problems for rogues as it ruins our Escape AA ability.

2. "This weapon has lots of damage bonus" is a interesting statement considering damage bonus on one-handed weapons has nothing to with the weapon but with the user's level. It is 13 for all one handed weaps at level 65, for 2-handed weapons its based both on level and the weapon's Delay.

You Guys Have Got to BE KIDDING!!
# Jan 14 2003 at 7:47 PM Rating: Default
Most of you must not play rogues. My main is a rogue and the highest dmg ive seen ona rogue wep is 17. A wep with 16 dmg and only 21 dly is too good to be true. I'll get one of these in about 15 more lvls i cant wait. The proc might be a pain but people act like rogues are weak and cant take a good 10 or 15 wacks without dying. Maybe it's cause mine's a Dwarf rogue but i can tank as good as a ranger. I dont think the proc gets that much in the way. The ratio is too good to be true. This is the reason i play a rogue.

I know what yer saying, but the other guys are right. at 50ish, yeah, you can take a few hits and call for help. when you're high enough level to carry a shank, a rogue falls pretty hard. true, and rogue worth his salt will have lightning quick /hide relexes, but at 62 (to get into bot) you can't just stand there and "tank like a ranger". and never compare a rogue to a ranger ever again. stupid gars.
RE: You Guys Have Got to BE KIDDING!!
# Sep 06 2003 at 7:01 AM Rating: Good
Cut the guy some slack, he says he hopes to get the shank in about 15 levels or so. That would make him level 50 or less. I sure as he11 could take a few hits when I was that level.

I guess some people just jump at any possible chance to flame peeps. Lame.

Tonight on E-Marr we took down the mob that drops this fine weapon, which I won by the by. We had a very inexperienced MA and SA (Was a PU raid). They were both decently geared 8k and 7k hps unbuffed, respectively, and were both sumarily eaten alive by this mob. I think it was a problem with a not tight enough c-heal rot and multiple slow resists. (The shaman said all magic based slows were no go, but landed cloud of grummus). After they were both down, and so quickly, a who knows what geared ranger (from our servers uber UK guild, Divine Grace) stepped up, and tanked the rest of the mob, flawlessly.

I'm sure that the gearing had something to do with it, but he held aggro and took the hits like a champ. I've seen several Ele+ geared rangers take over for MA's who bit the dust on a missed Cheal or what not. I'm not claiming them to be The New Warrior, but rangers can hold their own.

Even I, with my measily almost 4k unbuffed hps, can take quite a few hits (ie when buffed, on a slowed mob, I can easily go 10-15 rounds w/o a heal, on group xp type targets of course) though I have to fight to try to hold aggro.

Point: Don't stereotype classes, except rogues. Stereotype us as being uber. ;)

Honestly...
# Dec 29 2002 at 6:20 AM Rating: Default
The proc on this is very weak and wont collect much aggro at only 17hps a tick. So this is an ideal rogue weapon, considering if i were to have one(oh please god hear me), the mob wont be alive for more than 20 ticks, and thats if it procs from the beginning of fight. The main hassle would be the switch to a diff target if you got a proc off. That could get a raid or group killed easily.

#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 27 2002 at 4:21 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) its better then nothing, and it proccing constantly would help slow/stop regen.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 28 2002 at 11:19 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) No, actually I would much rather have no proc than heat blood. It "proccing constantly" would just mean your death. People need to realize DoT procs taunt like no other, ruin mez if you switch targets, and generally just plain suck.
RE: ..
# Jan 04 2003 at 3:36 AM Rating: Default
if a rogue with that weapon would be fighting in a group with tank you group with , aye he´d get aggro . and then solo the mob.
no that proc will not get you aggro often if ever if u know how to play your rogue. not if u have a half decent tank i.e.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 27 2002 at 3:05 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok, this is an awesome weapon, don't get me wrong. I don't play a rogue, but if I did, I'd give my eye teeth for a weapon that gave me +15% to backstab (rogues, speak up if I'm missing the mark there).
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 27 2002 at 6:01 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) 16 damage. nuff said.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 27 2002 at 4:53 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Now i dont play a lvl61+ rogue, but i do play a rogue as my main. The stat, the mod, and the ratio is kick *** - not many things that are better than this, if theyre any. The proc, sure its a little low...but think about it, that 150DoT could be what killed that mob. On a exp group, this weapon would own 24/7 haha i want one
RE: Huh?
# Nov 27 2002 at 6:44 PM Rating: Good
I do play a level 65 Rogue and thought I'd chip in. The ratio and base damage are excellent, and the backstab mod is always a great thing. The proc is a pain though indeed. DoTs play havoc with mezzing and the heat blood line carries an unwanted amount of aggro.

Don't get me wrong, it is still very nice. It would be even nicer without the proc whatsoever though.
RE: Huh?
# May 14 2003 at 1:50 PM Rating: Default
maybe this weapon was meant to be some what "cursed" like the glowing black sword or whatever that procs neutralize magic. because higher up, mezzing can be either life or death, and the proc is one that lasts, and has no real advantage in combat with its uber <200 damage.
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 11 2003 at 4:27 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Irregardless this is DEFINITELY a SK weapon =P. I'd personally hope that any guild who gets this would find a rogue to give it to. I don't care if the first one who pops would be a level one idiot noob, just as long as it is not wasted on any other class.
