DPS vs. Damage
# Jan 05 2005 at 6:53 PM Rating: Default
This bow crap for ranger let othrs have it unless you are too gimp. For normal bow shooting ..use fast like a featherwood...On trueshot you want HIGH damge ..so i personally own a featehrwood and stonewood for TS now but plan on getting a higher damage one soon

I'd agree with Aquendar. This bow rocks. I'm only a little 55 Ranger in this game, so I have not experienced any serious raids yet. That being said, I think CarlD is missing the point. If he really is a high level Ranger, he is spoiled/confused by the array of nice bows that drop during these big raids.

I'd be proud to be 'gimp' and take this bow. CarlD seems to have a lot of attitude and misplaced confidence. I think it is a sign of his youth. I'll start thinking about respecting his opinion when he starts shaving.

Gain some real knowledge, go make sure you know what you are talking about, then come back and you can post.

This has a better ratio than an Obsidianwood Compound Bow (36/33), only slightly less range, a wider range of stats and resists and more HP, plus has more AC. Considering how much being able to sell my EP bow would buy me in the bazaar and the fact that this is more DPS an an EP bow, I'll take it.

Yes, Featherwood is fast, but that's only an advantage on headshot and short fights, plus the FW proc breaks root if you root for HS. Yes, the Stonewood does impressive hits during Trueshot, but that doesn't translate to more damage, because you're hitting less often.

The only thing this bow is missing, IMO, is the 5% archery mod, but I'd still roll on it. I'd take this or TZ's bow to replace any EP bow any day, and go spend the 30K from my EP bow on a sweet augment or piece of gear.

Not for a Ranger IMO
# Jun 21 2004 at 11:01 AM Rating: Default
Personally, as a 63 Ranger, i wouldnt want to give up my bow since it has the 5% added archery skill on it. The delay is also smidge too low for my personal tastes. I prefer to hit fsater, not harder, and allow my 2 procs to fire, possibly interrupting casting mobs as well as the fact that I prefer seeing myself shooting twice per one shot of the Rangers using the Stonewood, which I dont think if you know your class you would be using as a Ranger in the first place. Just my 2 bits...in short, as a Ranger, I would pass this to a tank.

There's been some very intense studying of procs on the Steel Warriors board. The parses indicate that a faster weapon does not proc more frequently than a slower delay weapon. It appears that you have a chance to proc every so many seconds with the proc taking place on the next attack, not a chance to proc each attck.

I found this link on the Shaman's Crucible that shows the effect of various delays on the rate of proc for weapons. the overall finding was that a longer delay weapon proc'd more often to keep the average at approximately 1 proc every 45 seconds. Testing was done with a number of weapons, of various types (1HS, 2HS, etc) with 10,000 attacks logged for each weapon.

Haste actually appears to reduce the rate that a weapon procs! It appears that the game is hard-coded to a set rate for procs, regardless of the weapon's speed and any haste.

Who the hell cares?

Let anyone who wants it roll for it. If they can use it - let em have at it. God all mighty folks if they were in the raid why can't they have a chance at it?

Quit your dictatorshipping and telling folks how much they participated in the freakin raid. Everyone did their best. If they did not you should have booted them out before they got to the tower anyway so its the raidleader's fault the idiot got that far in the first place.

Everyone who can, should have rights, if there isn't anyone who can then its everyone in the raid rolls. End of story.

tiz a very nice bow indeed. for any given class it is a benefit, and if i was in your ate up guild Josenellenberge, i would not only quit the guild i would find you in RL and wrap my fist on your 10yrs old skull a few times :)
the reason they multi-class items is so those classes can benifit from it not for anyone to say xclass is at the bottom of the get list.
think about it like this you think anyone played any class to 65 just to have some young punk say there class aint getting crap till the other class is capped, and in reality 90% of the time you feed someone too much ubber gear too fast and there toon ends up on PA or ebay. seen it more then 70 times in 4 guilds on 3 servers since 99. Use NBG or point system if you can add, also called order of merit, you make the raids you get the gear, your a newB to the guild but friends or an alt to the GL you fall the same you get no points for not participating in the raid. And if it a group doable mob and there is 2+ classes that can use it, guild or no guild NBG and if you cant be civil bout it you roll for it.
And not to make you feel more then the loser you are Jose, but your people skills suck and your guild probably has 16 people in it, and they probably belong to you on 2 accounts so you can 2 box and have someone to group with, you also grind your frustrations here so people can tell you how to be more social and maybe start getting people in your guild. in short get a life newB.

forgot to add that rangers can tank with good gear, i personally know the top 3 ranger's on veeshan and all 3 would kick any other melee classes buttocks w/o using a bow or spells just straight up tank dat booty, 2 with 10k+ HP's and one with 11k HP's raid buffed. so you young rangers out there eat your weaties and start plowing for good gear.

Ranger's?!
# Mar 24 2004 at 5:24 PM Rating: Default
Depending on your sanity... well depending on your knowledge of the game... this should not go to a Ranger. I know I know they get all the EQ/AM3 AA's etc... TS... but they need low delay not high damage... DPS parsed has proven that lower delay = more damage with a bow... Now the 10 sta and 110 hp benefit a tanking class rather than a ranger (though it does help a ranger!) I myself a RL/GL would only allow the warriors to bid (If a ranger didnt have a EP bow then I'd get one from the Guild Bank) Now after Warriors I would say Paladins and SK's tied... I really dont see a Rog bidding on this... and Ranger's... If you are here at this part of the game and dont have a EP bow please get one! :)
RE: Ranger's?!
# Jul 29 2004 at 9:00 AM Rating: Decent
I would have to think a warrior would be the worst choice to receive this Bow followed by Rogue. Terrible waste of all that Mana and Wis/Int on either of these classes.

As a ranger though I do agree with your choice of SK/Pally.

Personally, my choices would be in order Pally, SK, Ranger (only if they did not have an EP bow and the guild could not supply them with one), Rogue (for the resist on CRs) then Warrior just because I ran out of better candidates.

Raid buffed, the warriors and rogues should have their str and dex maxed anyway, so the str/dex is not relevant. The only thing a warrior would get would be the saves and HP.

If the warrior has any decent ranged gear, he/she may get a max benefit of 20 to 30 HP out of this bow. Additionally, the warrior has probably reached the soft cap on AC so the AC will be of very little if any benefit to the warrior when raid buffed.

Any damage a warrior/SK/Pally/Rogue would do with the bow is completely insignificant, so really its only use for these classes are the range and stats. The classes that will get the most benefit of the stats are Pally and SK.

I put Pally at the top of the list as they are put in a pulling situation more often than any of the other classes and the saves will be of most benefit in a pulling situation where the puller is out of range of buffs when MR fades. A rooted puller is a dead puller and a dead puller slows everyone down. Additionally, if a Pally is pulling the range will be more benefical to the pally than any of the other mentioned classes.

If an SK is pulling, then they are most likely pet pulling so the range is irrelevant.

The aggro generated by a bow is almost nothing, so the range will do the warrior almost no good whatsoever.

Due to the Int/Mana I would have to go SK if no Pally needed/wanted the bow.

It is also more likely that a Pally or SK could make more use of the AC as it is less likely that they have reached the soft cap on AC as all AC gear has been piled on the warriors first.

But then I'm no expert on these things
RE: Ranger's?!
# Aug 30 2004 at 6:38 PM Rating: Default
heh, if all loot went how you just described this bow, BoW's would be given to pallies and SK's first, because they could use the 15 wis/int and the 175 mana. You must remember, that just because a certain class gets the same NUMBER in terms of stats, it doesnt mean the stat is as important (ranger/rogue hp's <<<<< warrior hp's).

Also, the more AC the better. there's only a soft-cap based on the mobs atk, and with OoW coming out you can be assured that it will be raised.

Edit: Also, you've never fought fro or TZ, have you? those are ranged fights and warrior disciplines do affect ranged combat.

Seeing how this bow is better than most droppable bows, why would it go to anyone but a ranger, if one put in for it? Give the non-bow using melee droppable bows (stats are good enough on them, which is what they want it for), give the good stuff to rangers.

DPS parsing has showed little difference between the top droppable bows.

So you are saying rangers should not roll on an upgrade, or you just telling your rangers what bows they should be using? heh.

Rogue may like it for the high resists (some go for resist > hp), war / sk / pal only want it for hp / resists. Rangers actually want to shoot stuff with it...

So first choice rangers, all others equal, IMO.

why do people always post xx item definately blongs to xx class? my guild uses dkp. you show up you get points the more your there the more chane you have at getting what you want. never have i seen (for example) a high dmg bow go to a ranger over another class just because it would be more deadly in his hands. or an improved damage item to a wizard over say an enchanter just because it would be more effective for the wizard to have. what good does it do the guild when you gear players that dont play? you show up you get loot. dont show up all the time. you dont get loot... even if the gear WOULD be sick in your hands.

Verant is no longer part of EQ.... ever since Luclin. It's all Sony Online Entertainment now.

And good old days of peopel donating for C3... that business never really started till Luclin. KEI was a luxury before... even on many raids.

As far as class nerfing: Sony (and before VI) has worked to balance the classes and IMO they are getting near the intended balance. Don't complain that your mana regen doesn't compare to a bard's song, they have to be around and playing the song for any regen to take place, while w/ clarity you can get and go for a few hours. You can pick out any little thing about most any class and complain about something, but you are jsut picking out the limitations that make havign the right mix of players in a situation crucial, which promotes player interaction and character specialization.

RE: Who should roll on it?

it depends on what system your guild is using for loot.

/random. if your guild is casting lots* for loots, you're in a guild that's way too noob to kill agnarr. so don't worry about it.

merit. if your guild is on a merit system (and if they're kiling agnarr, they probably are), then a ranger will get this bow. it will do more for the guild to award an am3/eq ranger this bow than any other class. if all the rangers present on the raid have this or better bows, then they'll hand it to another class - hopefully a person who deserves it.

dkp. if your guild is using any sort of dkp system, any of the five classes above stand an equal chance at getting this bow. i personally disagree with this theory. i suggest a 1.5 modifier to a ranger vying for a bow. the same for +aggro weapons for warriors and pokers for rogues.

-for a dkp bids system. 10 dkp on a ranger who wants this bow would be the equivalent of 15 dkp for anyone else. this way, it's easier for these classes to get the upgrades they need to help the guild. under a bids system, if one raid-devoted warrior really wants this item for his range slot, he can still get it before anyone else. but it'll cost him.

-for a dkp /random system. that is, you take a list of everyone who is willing to spend the dkp on a certain item, then use /random to determine the winner. if each candidate for a bow is using /random X Y, rangers should get a 1.2 modifier on their roll. on a /random 1 100, that means any ranger who gets more than 84 has cut off non-rangers from winning. but 84 is a pretty high roll.

-for a dkp alpha random system. an alpha roll is /random 1 X, where X is the number of people who want the item. each person is assigned a number based on their alphabetical placement in the list of people who want the item. if the roll turned up 1, Aaaaniden would win. if it turned up X, Zzzthorn would win. if rolling for a preferred class item, each member of the preferred class should have their name entered twice. if 20 people want to loot this bow and 5 are rangers, well.. i think it's crappy chart time. one to display the effects of double name entry for preferred class loot's preferred classes.
total #interested/#preferred loot class(PLC)/initial % loot chance/modified PLC %chance/modified non-PLC %chance

#i #plc %c %plc %nlc
 4 1 25 40 15

25 10 4 5.7 2.9
25 15 4 5 2.5

hope that gives you a rough idea. 22 looters for the item is the ideal number. but since they're regularly 4-10, the double name bonus is overmuch. but .2 of a name in an alpha roll is kinda hard =P

sorry for the long post.

Smiley: lol I love the chart man.

I totally agree. As a warrior, I'd absolutely LOVE to have +10 sta and +110 HP in my ranged slot, but seriously folks, if i can better the DPS of my guild by putting this in the hands of a EQ / AM3 ranger that could use better, that increases my chances of getting that uber range slot in future, higher level encounters due to the higher DPS of the RAID FORCE AS A WHOLE.

I'm sure 90% of the "My warrior wants this", "My SK could really use that +mana" crap is coming from lvl 39 people still thinking Dreadlands is Uber XP. Guys, do us a favor, "I want this bow!" is fine, but quit actiing like you know what the hell you're talking about. Smiley: laugh

Edit: However, if this is (and by no means do i think this is possible) a Pick Up raid, or the rangers all have Stonewood or something, go for it warriors, Pallies, and SK's. god knows i will. Smiley: wink2

They did in fact say archery wasn't meant as a ranger's source of damage but an alternative. however, with line of sight issues as there always is, it's never been an option or alternative to me. if you have an ogre in the way then you miss, if you're aiming for a giant and a tiny rat crosses your path you hit the rat. that's the way it has been for a long time. i've just recently started using a bow again only because i got a decent bow. i get a couple of good shots in but it's no where near my capabilities with my weapons. however, there are a couple of rangers in my guild that have EQ and AM2 & 3 and they are doing dmg on par with melee weapons so i'm doing the rangerly thing and working AA's to get those.

As for RyuOki's statement "rangers can do decent damage with melee weapons..." ROTFL, i so outdamage warriors, not some, but most. I went toe to toe with a warrior 1 lvl and 3k hps more than me. when i went down he had under 1khp... (our weapons were almost equal). now you tell me... did i do 2k more dmg than him or is my defense better than his? i choose to believe the first one as he did have 3k more hps than me and about 200 more ac

A ranger with a decent bow (ie 33-36ish damage/delay) with AM3, CF3, EQ, should manage ~ 170-230 DPS. Throw in discipline and you can get 300 DPS, easily outdamaging a rogue.

What was that @ Verrant saying Archery isn't meant to be a Ranger's damage output source?

It seems all we ARE getting from PoP are in fact bows...

I can imagine people will be pissed if there are nerfs coming in, not only because of the time invested into their AA points for Archery Mastery and Endless Quiver, but also because there are very few weapons in PoP which are Ranger only, and as such have damage/delay ratios higher than warrior weapons.

Current trend seems to be for Rangers, Warriors, and Bards to share weapons, with Rogues in competition for the better offhand swords.

i never once heard that verant never intended for rangers not to use thier bows. by exp and what i have seen archery IS a rangers dmg output source. rangers can do decent dmg with melee wepons BUT they can do some insane dmg with ballistics. again i have no clue as to where you got your misinformation. rangers are dmg dealers along the lines of rogues and monks.

"i never once heard that verant never intended for rangers not to use thier bows. "

The last fan faire, they talked about it. Seems the dev team wants to retune and fix a lot of the bugs with archery. And they've stated that when they do that, things like EQ and AM will make archery over powered.

So the "nerf" to archery will merely be them fixing long standing bugs with the skill and then retuning the way Archery AAs work to basically KEEP archery the way it is.

Not really a nerf, until they ***** it up and it goes live broken, then they spend three or four days patching and re-patching it.

But hey, that's DYNAMIC content for ya.

Yea archery is limited in many cases but if the path is clear and u get the chance to bow shoot DO IT. Make sure u have MAX dex. With a 33dmg 35dly bow it can WAY out damage any type of wimpy melee. When u have the potential to hit (536) every shot and get crits for (919) it is great dmg. So many people dont realize the potential of a ranger with AM3,endless quiver and full combat fury for crits. It is also important to have real nice melee weaponry incase archery isnt the best tactic. Be happy for the rangers that are uber with bows because if u are lucky enuf to group with one your exp bar will be happy.

It's also important to realize that archery is *extremely* situational. Take for instance, "The Perfect Factor":

1. I have a clear line of sight --- Stay about 100 feet from Ogres
2. There is an enchanter in the group/raid who can provide me with Haste and isn't watching "Friends(tm)"
3. A working finger that can tap the Range key several hundred times a minute(alternative solution: a nice gamepad with turbo function)
4. I am loaded up with ATK buffs(SoP, SoT and insert other buffs)and there are no Paladins within a 100 feet --- h8 bmb
5. Eagle Eye is on --- not X-ray vision, we can have that on later when the women aren't looking
6. There aren't rogues in the group blocking my line of sight --- and they do this on purpose because we all know they envy our dps
7. My butt isn't itchy which can take off valuable time and lower my dps!
