Who should get this lovely ammy!
# Mar 24 2004 at 5:30 PM Rating: Decent
/sigh... what SC said (if true) makes me sick... to toss around so many good items FREE.... and allow those SAME people to go to a different server with ALL of there equipment... just really makes me sick... It would take 4-5 months for one guild to farm that many Ammy's... but anyways... On a open raid I could expect this to be randomed for all... but in guild give it to the person who can deal damage! Casta's!

A lovely bit of tweeking of a nice orderly system:
A necromancer with spell criticals can use their largest Lifetap nuke for 850 to deal 1700, this item would make it 1105 to 2210, and a Bards enhancment nuke effect take it to 1210/2420. With Theft of Life and similar AA's a Necro with this tool steps into the realm of Nuker. I've now seen this using the lesser version(26%) of this Focus Effect and it is a wonder to behold. The necromancer can basically group Regen, Single Regen, Mana regen, Twitch and STILL be doing more damage in group than anyone but a Rogue.. barely. AND can keep it up until their fingers get tired.
One Necro with a Focus toy, one Bard, one Enchanter(I have a nice 26% pair of nuke boots, they're fun), one SK (Who also has a Imp Damage item -7992 standard HT before Bardsong), one Cleric (that fights the entire time), and one Beastlord. Yes I said Beastlord. What does this equal? ASTOUNDING permanent DPS, near impossible to equal Crowd Control, and NO DOWNTIMES! LDoN at MMC took about 31mins to win a Slaughter. Both named were down less than 15mins after. Mages throw Fire(respectable 1550 and 2000bolt) mostly and Magic(1400) secondarily. Their other functions and pet spells are far more commonly used. Wizards throw damage: Fire, Ice and Magic and I think would gain greater benefit from a multiple Imp Damage item (nods to sharleen) and a Fire specific one for SoS and the host of other Fire spells. Enchanter's have Insanity at 1100. Slow recycle, moderate damage and we don't rely on it as anything but incidental damage usually only on Named. Its a really nice amulet though ;}
Your Necromancer though.. heh. Brings a smile to my face!
Just something to think about.

actually just to correct the issue a little bit necro's get a 1020 lifetap and focus effects and crits do stack so do the math necro's are now in the line with mage/wiz on nukes and with the 50mana/tick regen we get we are ahead of the game on mana regen, add paragon and max FT with MC3 and you can litterally nuke till your finger hurts just my 2cp

focus effects and crits don't stack.
so their 850 nuke with this focus alone would do at most (850 * 1.30 + 850), 1955 damage.

Ok i wanna say this at a 65 wizzy.
Best wizzy nukes i.e highest in damage lowest on resists are fire based nukes like strike of solusk.
AT is 2300 damage and with this item its 2990 damage. But keep mind strike of solusk does more than that damge with ID4 focus item and SOS resists far less than AT.

What I fail to understand why dont wizzy simply use a ID4 item to boost all Nuke damage instead of this item.

As an Arcanist myself, I can't help but respond to this. Strike of Solusek is indeed a nice spell with an amazing ratio and nice little resist modifier, but even with that being the case SOS isn't an ideal spell in all cases. There are still plenty of times, for me at least, where I find Agnarr's, Telekin, Draught of Lightning, or Draught of Thunder to be a better use of my mana. Why wouldn't I want those spells to be doing up to 30% more damage, rather than the 20% of ID4 in those situations?

Sure, finding an item with a focus effect that gives 30% ID to all nukes, would be ideal for a Wizard. Unfortunately we don't live in an ideal world. Items that offer 30% ID or better to all nukes only come from encounters further along in Planar Progression. The majority of which I imagine are a tad more difficult than Agnarr as well.

So, a Wizard wanting to get the most out of their nukes might prefer to collect seperate focus items for each spell type, rather than settle for an item with a lower amount of ID that covers them all. In such cases, this item would do an wonderful job of covering a Wizard's magic based nukes with Improved Damage.

More SK backing

Wouldn't this also work on Harmtouch? Also our undead DD's are magic based. Two more reasons besides lifetaps (which is huge) that it would be best used by SK's over any other Hybrids.

Also for the people that have been asking if it will work on weapon procs I can tell you that improved damage IV items do not work on weapon procs so I wouldn't imagine that this would either.

SK's could put this to good use. An SK with max spell crits and max improved harm touch can harm touch for about 8k. So with this item they can potentially HT for 10k. Its like a mini mana burn, thats nothing to scoff at.
RE: More SK backing
# Aug 15 2003 at 7:14 AM Rating: Default
Sure, it would be NICE for SKs, but do SK's RELY on spells? No.

I understand where your coming from, friend, but from a Ranger who is in a top end raiding guild, I don't think an SK would spend ANY dkp on an item just for a focus effect. This may be just in my guild, but we pretty much mutually let the casters have the focus items, and the melee's bid on the weapons and armor and such..

Where there is a SK who wants this so he can life tap a little harder, there is bound to be a pure caster in the guild who could benefit himself, and the guild, in this. I would rather a Wizard with Draught of Lightning have this than an SK.
Very nice for necro/SK

Why? Life taps!

Touch of magic is 850 life tap, with this it would be 1105k max? pretty damn nice if you ask me =) Would love to get one of these my self.
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 20 2003 at 6:51 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The effect on this item would be best used by cleric's although they are usually sending their time healing anyhow, Ench's, Mages, and or Wizards whom like using thier magic based nukes over others.

He just said that this would be best used by Clerics(who have no dds but magic based), Ench(who have no dds but magic based), Mages, and Wizzys. Learn to read before flaming.

Only if it is magic based.

I really can't see a warrior getting this item if we were going strictly by effect. This is a wizard / mage item if we're going that way. However this thing is pretty nice though. I can see a tank getting this is we are to only look at the stats. This thing rocks, period.

Wizard / Mage? Not sure about Mages, but a lot of Wizard's best spells are based on CR / FR.

ALL Chanter Nukes, however, are based on MR.

Clearly a chanter item =P

While normally I avoid getting sucked into the who should wear debates, in this case I'd add ench to the list of good classes. There are many zones where I can't charm and there's little or no mezzing, and all I do is nuke through the night. I'd never restrict it to ench's but chanter is a very worthwhile class to wear for this one.

RE: Procs.....

First, while Agnarr's Thunder is magic-based, Strike of Solusek is fire-based (go figure). But AT is a widely used spell and Shock of Magic is another magic-based wizard spell.

Regardless, this item would be an utter waste on a warrior considering you lose a 30% spell damage increase effect. Even if it worked on procs I'd rather have a nuker using this myself. Sure the stats are good but there are plenty of other neck items which give good stats to warriors and other non-casters.

#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 27 2002 at 7:26 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This isn't the only DD spell boosting focus item, and if you haven't noticed it also has a healthy deal of Hp, Str, and Sta.
RE: Heh
# May 23 2003 at 11:23 AM Rating: Default
The focus would be useless to a ranger... A ranger's nukes are fire and cold based. With AM3/EQ and a decent bow, you'll be hitting non-crit with a bow regularly for more damage than any of your nukes.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 02 2003 at 9:49 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) wtf , a good bulk of ranger dmg comes from dd spells .. what drugs are you on and where can i get some.
