Aggro issues
# Nov 25 2002 at 1:58 AM Rating: Decent
With the delay being a bit high on this weapon, even with the proc it's not really a MT type of item. Just too slow to keep aggro effectively. All of the classes listed would do well with it though. Rogue in offhand of course :)

And if you really think that Jolt is the end all solution to ranger aggro problems, you're mistaken =/ A smart ranger controls their aggro without jolt, because as said before it is not reliable as an aggro reducer. It gets resisted, it gets interrupted, it fizzles uncontrollably and always at the worst times. Also keep in mind it is an aggro REDUCER, not an aggro wipe. So even if you do land it, it's not guaranteed to work.

Personally I prefer to root a mob and fight from a distance greater than my tank. Then I don't have to worry about it :) And if I can't root it - well I shut attack off =( Rangers are not so much unlike other damage dealing classes, it's the player not the class.

It drops in the Bastion of Thunder, not the Plane of Storms as currently marked.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 23 2002 at 12:01 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) with a 140 dd proc i would say great main tank weapon... but not ONLY main tank ANY of the classes that CAN use it WOULD use it... many a rogue would put that in PRIMARY (switching in a piercer for backstabs) and not just off hand.. why do the posts always become who can use? besides if u still got 6ac 65hp rings then no offense u probably wont see this for a long time. Again no offense to it but unfortunatly its most likely true

Well, two things I have to say here. Firstly, I don't know many rogues that will *ever* do the mainhand switch just for a little extra damage. Especially considering the number of rogue piercers strewn around Luclin and PoP. That being said, provided the aggro from the proc is relatively minor (along the lines of the combust proc on the tunare piercer), I would see this being a very nice rogue offhand.

Secondly, that comment about someone "still" using 6/65 rings is a bit ignorant.

Lowish delay and the DD wouldnt give enough aggro, doubt a MT able to get this item would use it while tanking. Would love to have this in my offhand tho when not tanking.

A very good offhand for any class except bard, reason is the epic is always offhand mostly, and with other weapons with better dam delay(although not the hp of this) for bards primary, it should go to ranger/rogue/war until VI releases instrument mod equipment that is worth equiping and not a downgrade to each slot for just getting rid of SSS.

Heh.
So you mean you would rather swap 4 weapons which for the most part are inferior (much in thanks to the attk boost on the bard epic proc, and how it affects meeles in his/hers groups) Rather than use the bard epic?

Bards need to stop being concerned with doing damage, because even with the top high end weapons for the class out there, and the sometimes sickening damage/delay ratios on those weapons, they would be hard pressed to outdamage a Paladin.

If you want to flame me, go ahead, but a RL friend of mine played a bard up untill very recently (he quit EQ 2 months ago) in a NtoV guild.

By the time he left EQ his weapons were Siren Song, Toe Twister, and Epic.

One day he decided to brag how high his Dps is with the newly purchased Critical Fury AA etc, and wanted to duel me toe to toe to compare dmg output (Wielding Swiftwind and Earthcaller Here)
Lanoi (that was his name) haste item was some assorted 41% haste belt from NtoV, as well as his Siren Song/Epic proc + Vashir song.

We dueled out of group, his haste was in excess of 100%, mine at 40% from epic.

less than a minute later he was annihilated.

Bards look for effects on your weapons, such as procs which aid your groups, your damage might help a bit, but the best dmg weapon you use, should at least have a comparable beneficial group effect to the bard epic.

Ok yes you are going to get flamed for this. I play a bard in a Tier 3 guild and you are saying that bards DPS is not high? You must have lost your mind. Let me just say a couple things. Ambidexterity, Harmonious attack, crit 3.. ever heard of these? about 95% of my swings are double hits, and full raid buffed I am sitting at around 280 str, 1400 atk, and 6.5k hps. Now lets talk that bards can't out dmg a pally.. I have dueled toe to toe a pally in the guild, well all stuns, roots were resisted. However I did lose the duel due to the LoHs, and their hps being more than mine. But to get to the point, I had the pally to almost dead, they used LoHs, and I got 1 bub of life off before I escaped out of the arena with abou t200 hps left. Now you tell me a Bard can't out dmg a pally.. when you want to talk down on bards, don't start with DPS, because with the right AA's we can move our DPS up quite a ways over a pally. So until YOU start a bard, get to 65, and get Impressario, then stop posting about what your "Friend" had.

and you are saying that bards DPS is not high?

Yeah, basically. My main is a 65 ranger with maxed ferocity but no ambi. I also have a 65 bard with maxed HA and ambi. Ranger's weapons are superior (AHB/primal to Ichorflow/epic) but I still do right around double the dps.

Another example is a friend of mine who's in a time guild, wielding a songblade and eoe, with all the offensive AAs and nearly capped atk. Even so, we were both averaging 130ish dps in the LDoNs we were parsing tonight.

The point being, even with all the AAs you mention, a bard has to acquire 2 time weapons in order to equal the dps of one VT level ranger (who doesn't even have ambi).

I'll admit with all the AAs maxed bard dps isn't bad, but I definitely wouldn't list it as "high". At the level of the game I play at (VT, tier 3 pop) basically all of our knights would outdamage any of our bards if they had the same haste conditions. As to who this sword should go to? Whatever class wins it. My rant is just about bard melee dps being stated as high. :P
RE: Offhand

/sigh

You missed the point...

Bards are never going to be one of the highest damage output classes. The point of my post was simply to clarify that Verant has begun to introduce weapons with better stats than the bard epic that also have instrument effect modifiers.

The modifiers on these new weapons will determine whether it's worth getting rid of the epic in some cases. The epic mod is only 1.8, so if these are better, bards will go back to "instrument twisting," although this time the instruments will be weapons too. We already know that the Troubador's Mace is 1.3 so I get the feeling that Verant is offering these weapons as alternatives for non-epic bards.

Bards often use the epic until it procs and then switch out for an instrument with a higher mod, depending on what role they are playing in each situation.

As for your duel, the bard wasn't very smart. If he had simply maxxed the rune damage he could do, he would have killed YOU since you were hitting so fast.

I love it when people who don't play bards post about how to play a bard.
Well....

Bards use mana, maybe not often, but some songs do require it.

Most of the high end gear will have both hp/mana stats listed on them, as well as wis/int mixed in with other str/sta/agi/dex. Does that mean it's made just for rangers, paladins, shadow knights? Heck no. It's for all the classes since the programmers wanted it to be available to all of them. If they wanted this to be a ranger only item, it would be.

Bah! Who cares about the mana? Look at the *damage*! My job on raids is to do as much damage as I can, and this baby would be sweet--especially with all those wonderful hitpoints keeping me alive through the AoEs longer... yumyumyum

I like your post, unlike half the trolls on this board that look at ONLY DELAY and taunt value, sorry folks, some people are there for damage, without them, youd allbead dead when the cleric shouts oom.

"I hear Jolt fizzles from time to time.

I also hear that sometimes, when a monster is beating on a Ranger, that his or her spells get interrupted every now and then."

I hear that warriors have a button called taunt. I hear that at this level of the game they also have a collection of high agro weapons. I hear that paladins and shadow knights can also taunt. Plus they have high agro spells for when they need to tank. I hear rangers using this weapon just fine because, they and the players with them, aren't stupid and know how to control agro.

If you see a ranger (past 51) die because of a damage proc, you have obviously met a dumb ranger. Jolt is -500 hate, proc is no where near 500dmg, besides, rangers get a 150 proc buff spell anyhow. This would be a awesome weapon in the hands of any of these classes, period. 20/25 offhander, + 125hp 10sta is just nuts. Learn a bit more about rangers and agro control before posting plz, this kind of weapon would only have gotten rangers killed pre-kunark, which was a mighty long time ago. =P

Which is why any smart ranger casts jolt BEFORE they get agro, guaranteeing that he/she never gets agro.

Last night in PoN Jolt was resisted more than half the time on the Nettling Wraiths. People who say "just use Jolt" obviously have never tried it.

RE: made for a ranger
# Feb 06 2003 at 12:40 AM Rating: Decent
jolt is never 100% resisted even if you get the resist message.

Also, a good ranger doesnt use jolt to lose aggro, a good ranger uses jolt to keep from getting aggro. So your "fizzle fizzle interrupt blah blah" argument is pointless.

How does this weapon look like? Can anyone post a link to a screenie?
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 22 2002 at 9:01 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) big woop its got mana on it did you see the 125hp jeez mani know other races would like it too and all but to me that has warrior spelled on it man 10 sta 15 str 125 hp +saves be good for the others too and it would be a shame to have all that mana go to waste but still an extra 125 hp isn't a whole lot but i've been in many situations where my 2 65 hp rings save my butt (unfortunately it got to that point but its happened)
