My chanter is currently wearing Cozy Sponge Boots, AC 7, Spell Haste III, STR +5, STA +5, INT +7, AGI +6, HP +55, MANA +60, SV DIS +6, SV MAG +7, SV PSN +7

Using these would only upgrade one stat by 4 and two saves by 1, while downgrading four stats, one save, hit points and mana. They add 5 levels of spell haste however, so I may have to make that choice.

Totally stupid, and par for the course.

Is it just me, or are 70% of EQ's little jokes aimed at chanties? What are we going to do with dex? Int casters are the ones who are really, in general, not very good at melee (don't reply that your chanty melees, I don't care- the other million out there don't. I said in general). In other words, we don't proc either. We also only nuke once in a blue moon, and I have never had a crit or seen another chanty crit even when nuking. Can we even crit? I have no idea. We are not bards, so dex won't help us stop skipping notes... correct me if I'm wrong, that's all dex does. Chanties do none of that.

So why's it there? I just want one half-way plausible reason.

Ok, I can see why the sta and hp are there, we need that as chanties, but as someone said before: what's 3 sta going to do? If you're going to take away all our other useful stats, at least give us a decent amount of sta.

All in all, any chanty who would pay 20k or whatever these go for to get this is nuts, in my opinion.

DEXTERITY: "This is your hand-to-eye coordination." "helps determine accuracy and spellcasting capability in combat, helps determine if your're interrupted when you're hit while casting a spell"
quoted from prima's official strategy guide to everquest page 58 .

All casters need some good dexterity as a secondary attribute behind their primary mana-int-wis attribute.

Also of note: Spell Haste means faster cast time, which means more medding time to recoup lost mana, every tick you are not casting you are regaining mana...therefore not only does the spell get off faster, and with dexterity have a greater chance of not fizzling and not being interrupted, but you also gain mana back faster as you allocate that extra time to mana regen.

Just how old is that strategy guide you're quoting? And was it written by SoE? I'm curious because your quote directly contradicts both Sony's Developers, and the character creation screen.

Dexterity affects channeling, so yes it has a spectacular effect on int casters when they getting smacked. Even more so for chanters who have to go toe to toe when you get some dumb tank breaking mez without taunting.

Perhaps you're right that Sony decried the "myth" that dexterity affects the channelling function of a caster. However, if that's the case, then how come they still print in their guides, and character selection screen last time I created a pure caster, that it does? All I know is I'd rather be safe than sorry, and as casters are easy to hit the 255 int cap, I have no prob tossing a few extra points in Dex. My enchanter has a dexterity of 187 and I know that he seems to be interrupted less, even when knocked back, than when he was near 100 dex.

To quote the character creation screen:

"Dexterity affects your chances for special melee abilities such as combat effects and critical hits. It increases your chance to gain points in most combat skills. It is also a factor in determining how much damage you do with throwing weapons and archery."

Nowhere does it say that dex affects channeling. Also, the only strategy guide I've ever seen was years old, and not made by Sony. It was, however, directly said by a developer that dex has absolutely no effect on channeling, that is purely a function of your channeling skill.

As for your experience, are you saying that your channeling skill didn't go up by a single point in the time between your dex being 100 and your dex being 187? The increases in skill would easily account for what you noticed.

In the future, at least make sure you have your facts straight before you post, people do try to get accurate information from these threads.

I will challenge your flame.

After I hit level 65, I shortly maxed INT and CHA. Having AA's to blow and getting better gear all the time, I chose raise my DEX to 305 and can self buff to that point. I do not get beat on a lot. When it DOES happen, the 120-odd points of DEX added by screcrow DOES make a diffrence in how often I'm interrupted.

Yes I WILL contend that my Channeling has NOT gone up by a SINGLE point since I began actually looking at my interrupts and channeling.

I do have the guide in question and it *IS* old. My observations back it up.

All this said, I would suggest that the 4 points added by this very expensive footwear is less than great. I can see a diffrence in channeling with 120 points, but not a GIGANTIC one; enough for me to say "You regain concentration and continue casting your spell." but not "Your dexterous nature allows you to easily cast through the most severe beating!"

There are many, many calculations that the game engine undertakes, grabbing a number from here or there or anywhere whice are not directly documented. Perhaps some are like Bind Wound. Would you contend that because the points healed do not go up from 25 to 27 that bind wound NEVER gives better healing than 6 points?

In the future reserve flames for subjects in which you have at least equivalent experince. Posts here are meant to combine information from everyone and will occasionaly contain inaccuracies. If your experience does not match the suggestion, post your useful thoughts or get over it.

IMHO these boots not worth it ... like said before ..no chr ..no intel etc ..sta and dex ok ..i can see why they are there ...which of you that dont know helps in combat situations ..but is it really worth the effect when you can get Brells (Bss) casted on you? and the hp /mana add isnt that great either.
if i do get these boots would probably for solo'ing purposes only ...But paying 22k + just for pattern or waiting for off chance of thise pattern being dropped ..I am not hard pressed about the boots ... think i'll just stick with my ss boots / slippers of dark mana for now and save my pp and time for more useful items/gear.

so we get a tiny bit of STA & Dex, wahoo, like that 3Sta is going to make up for much. There are plenty of items much more easily obtained & with better rounded stats available in PoP. I've been playing my chanter pretty much ever since EQ went Live. I just cannot believe how lousy these boots are, and when you compare them to the other silk class boots it looks even worse. The Ornate patterns are not a common drop although they do drop more now since they up'd the drop rate. It just sickens me to think that just because it has spell haste 4 that the effect alone makes up for the crappy stats of the boots themselves.

Besides, Spell Casting Deftness lets you cast faster, plenty of other items in the game that give equal or better spell haste but are an item worth getting b/c they have far better stats to go with the spell haste. And if it's just spell haste your after, go find your friendly neighborhood Mage & get a pack of focus items, that'll give you plenty of fun.

Unless they change the stats for the Chanter Ornate boots I'm just going to let the other casters take em.

just my opinion, agree or disagree it doesn't really matter to me, these boots still stink & need an update badly.

Stop complaining. You people who don't know how to play the enchanter class need to read on.
This one effect allows us to cast COD (normal is 5 second cast, 4.2 second with these boots) on a mob without having to root it first. If I need to explain further then you just dont get it yet but the result is this:
Soloing an AA in 35 TO 40 minutes and keeping all the loot......that usually means a metallic liquid or 2 which then can be turned into a 5000 to 6000pp profit each.

Of course you could always buy a weapon with spell haste on it but it's nice to equip the epic to haste the pets for no mana.
So they don't suck...you just gotta know when to use em and besides, int is overrated. It's how you play that the enchanter that counts. The only thing I would switch these out for would be the FT3 boots.

OK spell haste may help soloing...a little. Not as great as Cbaaoth makes it out to be.

And, if you group and use a Spell Haste IV weapon, you should consider going for a weapon with Innoruuk's Sarcasm on it. They are no drop, but they are automatically given to the chanter. I got one just because I happened to be in PoI during a factory raid and nobody wanted it.

Still...meh. The issue is that they suck other than spell haste. Few will disagree with that. Other classes don't have such a tough choice to make because their ornate boots are a good bit better.

Not *************** just wear something else hehe. If everything was perfect for everybody, the game would be boring.

Compared to the other 3 silk class shoes yeah....these stink something awful.
Notice all shoes get spell haste 4.
All 4 get 75 to hp/mana
All 4 get 15 or 16 to saves
The other 3 get 15 to stats
These get 7.Definately 8 short.
A lot like epics all get the same total stats just arranged differently.
Ripped off big time..I know I will be keeping my ft3 booties instead thanks.
Bump the STA and give us the 5 int the others have and they will be on par with the others.

edit - actually maybe they have been increased when they added the effect.Not sure but the other 3 silk class boots posted are the new version and this is the old one.Heres hoping....

edit - nope saw some today and aside from spell haste these are still the stats.

Hitpoints and Mana are nice, but they are an odd set of stats for an enchanter-only item.

I'm not sure that I'd swap these for my loam encrusted lined shoes.
