I had been in Sro for about 5 hours at the time waiting for any moment the AC to spawn and there was not a soul in the zone and then Nkat from Illumanati , which is a guild on Mith Marr enters the zone with a lvl 64 druid guildie and i get to AC first and he was standing right there beside me as i was gettin the AC to 80% health and then his druid friend nukes the AC for around 1k dmg and he tanks it off, so make a story short he KSd and I want everyone to know on Mith Marr that Nkat is the most evil person alive!!!!!!!

After camping 6 hours the seafury cyclops on the next island alone, i decided to watch the sea, and when i turn around someone was looking at me with a big eye from the other island, it was great surprise, The ancient was there, no one camping, no one looking for him, just standing on the rock on the other side of the island.
Easy kill for chanter pet at lvl 52, just haste pet and use berserker spirit when it worn off, dot him and wait for pet to kill, if u wanna go fast debuff him.
Just my 2 lucky cp.
Easy 51st solo .. toooo easy

Well my experience .. I found the AC in SRo and agro'd him with a tash spell and out of nowhere comes a skelly .. turned out to be a necro pet and I was KS'd .. at the time I was a 51 chanter .. so I left there and wet to OOT and camped him at the island next to the Dock. .. Well 14 hours later the AC popped .. this one was much higher .. but with a quickie on my pet and a slow& root on the AC he went down easy. He was drk blue to me.

I would stongly suggest to anyone that u camp the one in OOT .. there is no question that u are camping it if anyone else shows up. The AC is higher lvl but u don't have to worry about adds or stoopid chit but it it LOG and ANNOYING .. the other mobs that spawned were lt blue and green so the camp was no prob to solo at 51.

Well I'm just going to tell how I got it done. Went to SRO the night before. Completely hopeless. My 51 necro was the lowest in the zone of 12 folks looking for this mob. Went to OOT today and after 2 hours the ancient spawned and I got my ring. THe shadowed men are no problem and the rapier drops frequently. I camped them in Nektulous, but shouldnt be a problem anywhere. remember the shadowed rapier is no rent, so no camping. Finding Hasten Bootstrutter was difficult, but a really cool druid helped me track him down. That took about 2 Hrs. So total time invested was a little over 5 hours. I turned in 3250 gold pieces as I wasn't willing to take the chance on giving Hasten 325pp, but I hear that works as well. Definitely worth the time invested. Well theres my two cents. Good luck and safe hunting!

Okay, this moring my lvl 34 ranger ws in South Ro looking for High Quality Cat pelts. After killing pumas here and there a dry bone skeleton started to aggro on me for some weird reason (he conned green) and about 3 minutes later i hear this (or something close to it, cant quite remember) "I am th ancient cycoples and i live again to ravage the world" or something to that nature, about 3 seconds later i see "you have been bashed by an ancient cycoples for 78 points of damage" snice i wanted the jboots anyways i had a level 53 guildie pally come join me and took him down easy. Altohugh his fire resist seemed awfffully high for hid level. He conned Dark Blue to me at lvl 34. It was in the daytime too, i dunna about all this rabbish about at night only but i do belive in the undead as PH's =D

After you have everything ready to go, it would be a big help to have a high level druid or ranger with you. Preferably a druid because they can port. Anyway, I had a guildie track Hasten while I sat tight, and as soon as she hailed him gave me a loc. and I did my turn in. Worked out nice, and I LOVE these boots. A lot cheaper than SoW potions, and I have to have a movement buff because I'm an enchanter and I do mostly soloing. GL to all

Spent a whole friggin day in SRO waitin for the AC to POP. Killed everything that moved in the zone including the temple beasties.

Result 8 hours of nothing. In that time period I did not even see a Sand Giant let alone the AC.

Did this quest successfully on another toon some time ago. So I am familiar with the zone.

I am not talking 8 hours here and there I am talking 1 8hour session.

Is something broken in SRO?

Got the ring today. Just like I found in other posts, the AC popped at night, about 8PM game time. The only mobs that I worried about was the skele in the tower. Didn't bother with any others and the AC popped. The advice seems to work, keep the tower clear and wait for nighttime.

# Apr 29 2003 at 11:11 AM Rating: Default
Think some one further down the list mentioned just killing the oddly named mobs like 'a mummy' instead of 'a crypt mummy' and 'a madman' instead of a desert 'madman'. I think this works!! I had spent hours killing all the undead in the zone without any AC showing. Then as I was passing through looking for raw-hide stuff for research, I killed 'a mummy' that was in the way. 5 mins later the AC was there. Easy kill at lv42 for me, the hard part was catching Hasten in RM...
How I did it
# Apr 16 2003 at 8:41 AM Rating: Default
Ok, just last night, I decided "I'm gonna do this."

So I ran off to Ocean of Tears with my friend Telfer, and we decided we'd try to get a camp in on AC. No luck, it was taken. Not wanting to lose the camp when it was opened up, I grouped with the person there to help them out so the mobs would die faster, effecively getting a faster spawn (Since the timer is 6 minutes after the mob dies). Telfer ran off because he had some smithing to do.... 3 hours later, it popped. He got his AC ring, and I got the camp. Asked Telfer to come back, and it was our turn in line to camp this ****.

5 agonizing hours later, finally it popped. Strangely enough, I promised I'd give pie to someone if he would pop the next mob, and sure enough he did >_> (Not like thats guarenteed to work, but still...) Easier then his place holders, but to our dismay, he was running towards the tower with the merchant. Many of our cyclops' got up there and ended up dying, making the corpse unlootable. We had to "sit" pull the mob to us (Sitting down causes agro), but once he got too close he ran away again towards the tower. We pulled him near the water, Telfer nuked him and I brought out my trusty "Weighty polearm" and smacked him up. --Renix has looted an Ancient Ring--

VICTORY! Off we went to get ourselves a rapier. Since it was an entire camp consisting of 8 level 25ish mobs, it was a little freaky. I went in first and started smacking up a shadowed man, but before I could utter "Don't send in your pet, they don't seem to be social", off his pet went into the crowd. His pet died, and Telfer was forced to gate, since he didn't want to risk death. So, wielding yet again my trusty 2 hander, I killed the entire camp coming out with 94% HP left, and sadly the rapier did not drop. Waited 5-10 minutes for the entire camp to respawn, and finally I saw one of the shadowed men wielding it. Killed him, and looted the prize.

Ran off to PoK and got out the gold (Didn't want to risk using PP after being on this quest for 8 hours already), then got a sow from someone and off I went to Rathe mountains! These forums being full of false information I wasn't sure if I could trust the location, but I really had nothing else to go on. So I parked myself at neg850 pos520 and waited. Sure enough. Brother Zephyl came running by, many times. I asked how long the despawn was, and they said it could take EQ days before he de-spawns. Ugh. I didn't want to wait more after all this time >_< I just wanted my J-boots.

There was 20ish people in RM, and some of them were bored and got tired of hunting giants, so they decided to group together and take out Brother Z. This was the only way that Z managed to de-spawn, i'm not certain of any other methods, but I wouldn't suggest trying to take him out yourself, he hits fast and hard >_< About 10 minutes after the celebrations of Brother Z dying, Hasten came running by. The chase begins! After exhausting myself running after him trying to stop him with a hail or 50, someone grouped with me and aided in this chase. Finally, we got him to stop. 3250 gold, one ancient ring, and a shadowed rapier later, I FINALLY have my Journeyman's boots. I never want to see another cyclops again....

Heres some tips:

Do the camp in OoT to reduce chances of KSing.

He does not spawn at any set EQ day, EQ hour, or anything. Hes a random spawn, and theres nothing you can do to get him to spawn faster (Other then killing his placeholders, which consist of a pirate, an ogre, an aqua goblin, and a cyclops)

If you can't get him to spawn within 6 hours, just leave. Trust me. You'll get completly bored and its best to just come back another day and try again.(But don't yell at me if he spawns as soon as the camp is taken over >_>)

If I recall correctly, the spawn point in OoT is located at roughly +1000, -8000. I could be wrong...

Went to do this camp solo in OOT. I went on Thursday morning 7am EST to avoid a possibly crowded zone. I showed up, the camp was open, 33 PH later he popped almost 3hrs of camping.
RE: Jboots question

just 1 edit to Nuahs post is that they have to be in a main inventory slot. So they can't be bagged or anything just like potions.
My Story
# Mar 15 2003 at 8:50 PM Rating: Excellent
Well, after having played the same main for over 2 years and having the money I could have bought Tboots or an MQ of the Jboots, my wife Iceblossom (52 Shaman) and I (52 Warrior) started camping him as was available. The camp is MUCH easier to get these days it seems hehehe.

We had camped him a couple times for about 2 hours each to no avail but did enjoy the drops from the seafuries pulled over and the cyclops that are PHs which were mostly Blue to both of us. Even if you cant get the AC camp, OOT is a much underused zone these days.

So this morning we are deciding what to do and she just isnt up for anything terribly risky and kinda wants to play it safe or maybe farm stuff for our tradeskills or whatever. It was finally agreed we would go to the Ocean of Tears and see what we could come up with. We have been doing Allizewsaur lately and there are usually plenty of Seafury Cyclops if he is taken. We get there and after a camp check call, only Alli and Gornit are taken. SUPER. We claimed the AC and spent about 3 hours there having mostly Cyclops ph which were fine since they are light blue to blue and have decent drops. We also pulled the occasional Seafury from the neighboring island.

After about 3 hours the AC finally popped. He was an easy kill for us and we made our way to WC to get the Rapier which was visible on the Shadowed Man that held it. One nicely placed arrow and I had him in front of me and got the Rapier from him. We then headed to Rivervale to grab the money, 3250gp didnt affect my weight in any negative capacity and we made our way to Rathe Mountains.

Took a little while to find the exact location but the advice to go to the HG area and hang out looking North at neg850 pos520 was perfect. Sat there and killed a few drakes that flew by and after about an hour Hasten came flying by me. I caught up with him and hailed him repeatedly while I got out exactly the money needed and handed him my AC ring, Rapier and 3250 gold. Got the boots now and am SO happy. It is MUCH more satisfying when you do this yourself. There was another guy there waiting on him too. Gave him the loc and he did his turn in too. And as for the "bring a friend to hail him while you count out your money".....that REALLY isnt necessary=) Just keep hailing him yourself, not that hard.

All in all a good day. A little experience and a quest I have wanted to do for so long is now marked DONE! And my wife was there the entire way. VERY happy day.

Good luck to all the others who try it, one of them I am thrilled to have completed. Now to just get that Ceremonial Iksar Chestplate for regen when farming Acrylia and such=)

You guys are gonna hate me. :) I read all the AC camp stories... here's mine:

I was a level 40 Cleric. Bored. Walked around Oasis a bit, enjoying the fresh desert air. Zoned into South Ro. What do I see before me? DEAD Ancient Cyclopes. I did a /who. Only one other person in the zone (lvl 55 something). So I run down the hill, and of course, the lvl 55 is looting the AC. Then I get a tell --

"Do you have Jboots?"

"No."

"Come loot this corpse, I think this is part of the quest."

"Really? Thanks!"

You're right.. I hate you! Me and a 65 druid camped the one in SRO for 2 nights like 3 or 4 hours a night, with no loving. I think once I hit 50, 45 now, I'm going to go camp the one in OoT with my cleric wife. This will for certain be one of those cool quest. I'm going to have to do it twice too, wife needs also. =)

I hate you.

I camped SRo for 5 hours, OoT for 10 after that, then back to SRo for 8 hours and FINALLY the friggin AC popped. Spent another hour tryin to find a rapier (seemed kinda rare... damn those stupid necro mobs... hey, wait...), 10 mins asking for a sow and str buff while I dragged exact change 3250gp (makes counting easier :P) and got my boots. Hit the button and off I went :D Happy Happy Happy.

grrr... Brother Zephyl spawn
# Feb 14 2003 at 3:30 AM Rating: Decent
I have learned something usefull for those who is having troubles getting to Hasten because of Brother Zephyl. Someone says Brother Zephyl takes ages to despawn but I heard and checked that he actually despawns every EQ morning at 9am. I was unlucky enough to come with all the quest items at 10pm at night and Zephyl was up and people was saying that I might have to wait for hours. Asked my guild and they told me the 9am thing. I waited until 9am and yes, there the dragon came flying. Killed it and waited 10 minutes before Hasten came running. :-)

NO RENT
# Jan 31 2003 at 12:12 AM Rating: Decent
This is just a question about the NO RENT Rapier. One night I got a tell from a guy that asked me if I would come kill him in the PvP area of Cabilis so that the 'Summoned weight pockets' he had would not go away because he was a monk and was making great use of them. He said he had done it 2 or 3 times before & that it worked fine & they were still there when he came back the next day. My question is can anyone else confirm this tactic working ? AND would this tactic work on these NO RENT rapiers in the event I had to log before I completed this quest ? To finish, I was too wary of the offer to step in the PvP arena with a 40 monk (me being a 10 Shaman it just sounded strange someone wanting me to come kill them) but, another person did oblige him and he died and thanked them heartily. Just a curious question & thanks in advance for any answers.

no rent items on your corpse will hang around until the corpse expires.

So in short, yes it will work for the no rent rapier. It will work for any no rent item.

Advice for MQing
# Jan 30 2003 at 11:45 AM Rating: Decent
Some advice when doing the turn in to Hasten Bootstrutter:

1. 325pp works the same as 3250 gold, with ALOT less encumbrance. (This is as of last night)

2. Bring a friend to keep hailing him while you sort through your inventory and count out the coin...this will prevent him from running again.

3.When MQing the boots, make sure that one person hands in the ring and the receiver hands in the rapier and coin. I've heard horror stories about MQs going bad and the MQer getting the boots. The reason for this is simple. Someone tried to do the hand in earlier and either handed in the wrong shadowed weapon or the wrong coin amount. The coin amount is most commonly screwed up by people who zone in with exact change and end up killing some PHs or mobs while waiting for Hasten. They then hand in the coin amount without checking and it ends up being wrong because they looted some additional coins off of the corpses. If you give even 326pp, you will not get the boots.
4. Hasten is fast and small, so getting SoW and a tracker is in your best interest.
Hope this info helps

Ancient Cyclops Violator)
# Jan 29 2003 at 11:13 AM Rating: Decent
I did the SRo camp for a buddy, and that place is pretty much a nightmare because he's random and can't be claimed. Nevertheless, we nailed him there and got the JBoots for him (although we had unwanted help bringing him down...fortunately my Necro and his Wizzie outdamaged the would be KSers). I stayed there with my Necro for weeks afterward trying to get him to pop again, but no luck. In that time I saw 15 Sand Giant Husams!
I moved to OoT last week, and I nailed him Saturday and got my JBoots. Whats more, I decided to press my luck and camp him again Sunday to try to get JBoots for my Cleric alt, and got him again! A word of caution, however. Druids like to hunt Seafury Island and WILL see the AC on tracking and most likely come to your Island and see if they can get him...happened to me both times, but the AC was below half on both instances. My advice, if the AC pops, go all out to bring him below half health, that way even if they try to KS you still get the ring. You also make good XP and loot from the "A Cyclops" that spawns and from pulling Seafuries from the island next door. OoT rules!

OOT AC
# Dec 20 2002 at 2:27 PM Rating: Excellent
My advice, having done this quest quite a few times, is to skip the AC in South Ro and head straight for the OCean of Tears Cyclops. He may be slightly tougher, but he can soloed by any damage dealers above level 40. Plus, because he is a static spawn, you at least can rest assured that he will spawn eventually.

Here's some info on the AC:

He spawns in a series of mobs on Cyclops island (Area #8 on the EQatlas.com map). The spawn series is at loc +1000, -8000. A mob spawns at the location every 5 minutes. The mobs in the series include:
-Boog Mudtoe
-A pirate
-A cyclops
-An Aqua Goblin
-An Ancient Cyclops

Note that they dont neccesarily spawn in that order. But if you wait long enough and work the spawn, the AC will eventually pop. Its far easier than the KS nightmare that is the Sotuh Ro AC. I got pretty lucky with my AC spawn. My guild leader killed the AC, and I rushed to OOT, and to the AC isle. Took me about 10 minutes to get there. I only had to wait about 20 minutes before I had my chance to kill the AC. To make a long story short, me and my wizard friend killed him pretty easily, and I got my ring.

The next day I hightailed it to Rathe mountains, and waited outside the Feerott zone for Hasten Bootstrutter to spawn. For the first couple hours, only Brother Zephyl was up, but eventaully he despawned, and "a drake" spawned. I killed him, but another spawned. Killed that, another spawned. Kill that one and, you guessed it, ANOTHER spawned. It took about 7 "drakes" before Hasten spawned. A note on Hasten, he follows the exact same path as Zephyl and "a drake", except in reverse. If you stay in the area right outside the Feerott zone line (Appoximately +1250, -2100), you will see Hasten come through the pathway from the West. After he comes into your area, he'll get stuck on some ladn as he turns south to continue running. At that point, keep hailing him, hand in your 3250 gold, your Shadowed rapier, and your Ring of the Ancients, and you'll get your boots.

Hope this helps.
RE: OOT AC
# Jan 06 2003 at 1:18 PM Rating: Excellent
I have to say I agree about skipping the camp of SRo. I ran around there for only about 3-4 hours in the wee hours of the morning looking for the AC, but was always joined at some point by a high level character looking to find him too. There was no way I would be able to out-dammage a 50's wizzy, me being a 41 wizzy. I decided to try OOT. I was lucky when I got there that somebody was just leaving the camp. I got even luckier when the AC spawned on the 3rd pop. I managed to solo the AC (Lucky I had C3 and BST's Spirit of Light, I think it was, and still had to use a Harvest during the fight).

Anyway, I got my rapier after about 2 hours soloing Shadowmen in LFay.

I found Hasten running right next to the Freerot zone entrance, after waiting for Brother Zephyl to despawn, and managed to stop him. You have to get real close, and maybe stop moving, to get him to stop running. Incidentally, I saw Hasten run both directions while I was there.

All told, I spent about 7 hours doing to quest. I consider myself very lucky.

Also, I turned in the 3250gp (not willing to take a chance) so I was very encumbered, being a wizzy with very little strength. To fix this, I had looted a Woven Frost Giant Beard in EW while kiting them. It has a clickable Storm Strength effect. Added about 30 str to me. I also used a SOW potion.

I hope this all helps.
Thanks for listening to my rambling on my first post on this web-site :)

I got help with this quest from a 61 Cleric in my guild when I was lvl 28. I thought Rangers would have got SOW at 39 so that the Jboots would be good until the time I got SOW and then would sell them off. As soon as I completed the quest 2 problems occured: 1 I relized the Jboots were No Drop and 2 I got Sow at lvl 30 not 39. Oh well too bad Verant doesnt make these droppable or else I would be rich. Keep them, trust me, you will not regret it. Ever been bow kiting, when you see the dreadful flashing boot on your buff window. Oh no, sow is fading. Need to recast. Damn, the mob is hitting me, can't get the spell off. Oh yeah, my jboots have ZERO cast time, and can be cast while running. <Click> Continue kiting the mob to death.

THEN recast sow, since its faster.

Just did a MQ of this today and it worked. The other guy gave Hasten the Ring of Ancients. Then he muttered a bit about the Rapier and Gold. I then gave him the Shadowed Rapier and 325pp and WOOT J Boots mine!

Also, I /con dubious to him and it still worked. Just an FYI.
