Being an elite warrior myself, i've been thoroughly educated in the ways of all classes, as i've tried the majority of them. People, get a grip, most people playing wizards either have a thorough knowledge of the game, I.E. a second/twink character more or less, or is high enough level to use this item to which they know what they are doing. Melee is for EVERY class, not just us meatshields. If a wizard goes OOM and melees, that means they know what they are doing, and have a plan, give or take. What you ignorant, shogunistic morons have to realize is that by about level 20, you know how to play your class, get over yourselves people, stop trying to act like you know something, because when it comes down to it, and caster will eagerly, and might i add, happily, move three muscles to slap you upside the head. Degrading and downing casters, saying "you dont know what your doing" and "meleeing is for tanks", will likely make them go OOM and get you killed on purpose, just despite you. Bottom line, Most everyone knows what they are doing, get over it, bite one, you self-righteous, ogre-mouthed douchebags.

Here here, to the casters!
No offense to us tanks xD
Not such a tiny stick when used right

Hmmmmmm......Everyone seems to have missed something. Necros can tank dark blues quite well and even draw agro with a weapon like this under at least one set of circumstances....

Demi-lich skullcap is a 120+ dpt lifetap that uses no mana. With 1100+ HP to use every minute a necro can tank, play healer, step in to draw agro to take the pressure off and still cast incredibly fast. Add 80 dpt from Bond of death and your DD lifetap spell and you take a fair amount of pressure from the mobs.
smack!

drops off the guy with the herd of pigs in Tactics. Its a great melee weapon for swatting players around in Sullon Zek in the newbie zones. Its like a sporting event!

I just got one today they 70k on Saryrn server and it is NOT for melee!!!!! If you are smart you would put on a wizzy or mage cuz it makes DD spells HELLA fast! It is sooooo good and look at the stats!!!!!! Worth every dime would pay even 80k if i didnt have! So remember if ya smart ud use it for the effect BTW it stcks with hasting buffs and OTHER focus hastes but they cant b DD... I gunna put on my wizzy today =D

I have 2 of these nice little babys each on diffrent servers...Honestly its almost priceless. The 15% spell haste along with the stats have saved my bacon more than once when a snare wore off. The fact that it works and all spells but CH makes it very tradable to all casters. Most I've seen/bought were in the mid to upper 50k range.

# Apr 22 2004 at 11:36 PM Rating: Decent
Have to agree this is one nice Wand for Mage, and even Necro classes :) Dont have one on Chanter yet but hoping soon. All the stats are beneficial to casters but the fact it helps with DD and does work on most all spells is just majorly awesome! Definately a priceless item. One item that will maintain it's price unlike other items for casters. Unless of course, EQ hits us with one helluva wand in the near future. Hope all casters get to at least try one of these....

Wake up tank boys. If I have dotted my mob and the tank has aggro and I am sitting on my horse medding why shouldn't I walk up to the mob and start bashing. It builds my skills. Every bit of damage helps in any encounter. And I have more fun. Holy crap, we play this game for fun, remember? Plus the stats are great although not godly.

maybe because it's

1- Beyond useless as you'll miss 90% of the time and hit for 15 the 10% left
2- dangerous as you may eat a riposte
3- dumb as you do NOT meditate while meleeing, even on a horse

Another question?

You are right and wrong MasklinnMT
(1) Whether you miss or not, every bit of dammage counts.
(2) Mobs can't Riptoes you if you are behind them.
(3) And here is were you are right you do not get your normal sitting mana regen if you are meleeing you get your standing regen+ any FT you have on items so it's the same as standing and meleeing...

I understand that the planes mobs are a little out of the question with just how hard they hit. But to stay completely out of melee?
I melee undead mobs all the time.
With THE best mana regen in the game why not? Saves on the heals to the pet... Also kinda fun!
Lifetap DoT, slow and have some melee fun with Gerber-boy backstabs the mob =)

The whole point of this wand has absoloutly nothing to do w/ meleeing lol the whole point of the thing is for the stats lmao .. Only a dumbass caster would walk up to a mob a and start hittin it unless they are buildin skill.. Otherwise the dmg they would do beatin it up would be minimal if any hehe oh well Its a nice stated weopon and is used soley for stats not dmg/Dly ratio...
RE: Ummmm
# Nov 03 2003 at 2:32 PM Rating: Default
I melee fairly often as a 61 NEC for the following reasons:

* Build offense/defense (as noted)
* Take agro off low-HP pet while I lifetap and melee
* A trickle of extra damage is still damage
* I've actually spit-tanked with my pet using lifetaps and lifetap dot to stay alive and given life to my pet. I only do this in groups when mobs are unmezzable and everyone else is busy killing other mobs. It's risky and very last-ditch.
* Same as above, but to take mobs off of the chanter so that they can mez. Obviously I have to time shutting off auto-attack well, but you get used to that. Lifetap nukes + attack = chanter not getting beat on = party lives
* Killing snare-dumb mobs without re-casting dots.
* If I get unshakable agro from mez or slow+dots and don't feel like FDing and am in no danger.

There are many, many situations in which meleeing is an option for casters (especially when their self-rune is up), and one they should not be afraid to take so that they become familliar with the risks involved. I can tank for about 10-20 seconds in PoM or a first-teir PoP zone, after the mob as been lifetap dotted, or even longer if it's slowed. That's important to know since 10-20 seconds of misc crowd control can be the difference between life and death (esp if I'm pulling a mob off the chanter).

You are overlooking the most important reason for casters to melee. Killing those damn floating Eye of Whoevers. Wizards will love you forever if you can prove your worth by putting yer slapass hand to those things as they float by. WOOT!

#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 26 2003 at 7:56 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I dont have a wizzy , but to say if they can melee a mob even 1 pct is crazy if wizzys tried to melee a PoD mob which hit around 250 to me a lvl 55 war would get crushed in like 4 to 5 hits if you can tank it lol GL but i know wizzys dont have that much hp to begin with not unless you have crazy AC , but is very to difficult to get ac as a wizzy. I really dont believe in a wizard to tank my lvl 36 druid cannot tank a mob around his lvl but about 5% and his skill is maxed for his lvl. If you were in my grp and you were tanking and you were oom i would say sit you butt down!! Your nothing but a nuker and will always be a nuker!!!!:lol

Obviously you know nothing of in-game-tactics. Most of us wizzies know our casting time and do not need others to tell us when. We also know when to melee if needed , which i am sure other wizzies would agree that we know to back off when something is enraged. I personally have a 62 wizard who would much rather pound something along with my little flamer to finish it off , then to waste another half bub of mana when it is turned away from me anyhow. And for those of you who feel we should just nuke , nuke , nuke well... you deserve to die when the add or extra pull comes along and we say "sorry 00m , should have used us more wisely."
Stupidity and prejudice should carry the same definition.

A smart caster knows when to sit his *** down and med instead of standing up and meleeing, potentially eating a riposte, and not increasing his mana regen.

PS. A smart caster knows how to manage his/her mana pool without nuking till he or she is totally out of mana. Get a clue.

Does this stack with the Spell Haste IV etc.... line?? I would love to know... thx folks.
RE: Ok, question....

focus effects do not stack - only the highest one will work.

It does stack with spell haste buffs tho so with the cleric buff you can get up to 25% spell haste.

dmg/dly quit complaining
# Feb 24 2003 at 11:18 AM Rating: Decent
Really, it is not dumb for this item to have such a good dmg /delay ...someone earlier said "I mean it WOULD be ludicrous in any fantasy setting for a stick, however magical, to do more damage than the sword (a weapon of specific destruction) of a god"........well it doesnt do more damage, i got a 12dmg / 19 delay weapon on my enchanter and the most he can hit for (if he can hit at all) is 25 or 26pts of damage, this is with his skills maxed.

Also, really this item is not better, not even equal to some of the melee weapons that came out with PoP (i have seen weapons with a damage to delay ratio of well over 1 )....so dont complain if this weapon is better then your "uber" lammy...just check out bazaar and get yourself something new. There are tons of melee weapons with a damage ratio of near 1 or better for sale on the Inny server

my 20/30 epic i crush for up to 64 with it, and I'm a wizard. Every little bit of DPS counts when you have 60 people killing something :)

RE: dmg/dly quit complaining
# Aug 21 2003 at 4:15 AM Rating: Decent
Yes you can crush for 64, but then you probably miss the next three swings, then hit for a couple 2s and 3s. Meleeing a raid-level mob as a caster with a 20/30 weapon, I'd be very surprised if you get over 10dps. You'll do much more damage over time if you just med, and then use that mana to nuke.
RE: dmg/dly quit complaining
# Apr 28 2003 at 5:08 PM Rating: Default
Ok, i dont mean to point out the obvious but if you are a wizzy, why are you meleeing and not casting like you are supposed to? If your oom, med up. If you cant sit, stay back and pray for kei. A wizzy who doesnt have the sense not to melee doesnt have the sense to turn off attack during Enrage.

# Nov 12 2003 at 11:31 PM Rating: Default
Who gave you license to be such an ***? Not everyone who starts swinging a weapon is so stupid as to leave it on permanently. If he gets himself killed by leaving it on through enrage once, he'll never do it again... But WHAT DO YOU CARE? So damn much hostility and unfriendliness in this world, and you just HAD to perpetuate it... My god.

It's not hostility, it's common sense. Meleers were made to melee, casters were made to CAST. If you are meleeing, on a horse or off one, you are not medding, and you are losing out on extra mana that could be used for nuking or something that might actually be helpful.

And speaking of hostility, where do you get off calling the guy an ***? Almost ludicrous how you complain about "unfriendliness" and then curse at somebody in the same breath..

I DO BELIVE IN MELEING ON A MOUNT, WHEN YOU HAVE A TANK THAT CAN HOLD THE AGRO OVER YOU. OR IN MY CASE (NECRO) WHEN MY PET IS LOW ON HPS AND I JUST LIFETAP TANK.

# Nov 20 2002 at 4:11 AM Rating: Default
Kinda annoying from a melee standpoint to see wand after wand with unbelieveable dmg/dly. Im not jealous, i understand that a wizard isnt going to do major dmg meleeing, but it just makes no sense that a frikkin wand does more physical melee dmg and has a better ratio than the 1hs off the emperor, or practically any non sk/pally 1hs for that matter.
RE: this is a tiny stick
# Feb 25 2003 at 1:11 PM Rating: Decent
Actually the DMG/DLY ratio isnt that outrageous....Many new items for melee classes have come out for example a 1hs for a sk/pally "long sword of vitality" 26 dmg 25 delay with Magic DMG I believe. That ratio is great but in this new age its average....Casters just look at its stats imo, let them throw in a wack or two at a mob if they feel like...Feels good every once in a while...what if a wizard is running through WC and gets aggro by a orc, whats he supposed to do? Use a 1200 mana nuke on it? WACK IT.

Actually what I think he is trying to say is this tiny little magical stick is a better weapon than what drops off of, for all intents and purposes, a god. The only reason is game play issues. I mean it WOULD be ludicrous in any fantasy setting for a stick, however magical, to do more damage than the sword (a weapon of specific destruction) of a god. But, since it's not affecting much, why NOT give those casters fantastic ratio weapons? Sometimes I really do think it's just to poke at the fighting types.

As an Enchanter I melee whenever I am color locking a target. Cheapest on mana, does about the same as our lousy DoT if not a touch more, (still us it and cripple on long fights with stunnable mobs) and I have to know if I am in range of my target when casting it. There are some pretty viscious proc weapons/spells we can use in this situation that can seriously up the damage too.

I sympathize with you though, my 47 warrior was out taunted and practically outdamaged by the Cleric yesterday in CoM. Those summoned hammers, and the Banish Undead procing toys from Hate/Fear are just ugly!

It doesn't do more damage simply because a caster's offensive skills cap way lower than a melee's. This could be 40 dmg 20 dly and casters would still be doing less damage than any given melee or hybrid.
RE: this is a tiny stick

This could be 40 dmg 20 dly and casters would still be doing less damage than any given melee or hybrid

Yes, and thank you for stating it so clearly.

The other way to look at it (and others have stated this too, of course) is that this drops in a place and from a mob where the ratio on this wand is NOT very impressive. I loved the phrase someone used "your "uber" lammy"! Heh, really sums up the problem here. Pre-PoP folks are looking at this and thinking that it's melee-class quality. They're just plain wrong, but that's hard to get your head around at that stage of your character's life. I'm 61, and just starting to do planar content. I have an sense for how outrageous PoP gear gets, and have no illusions about this being a good "weapon", but still I'm sure I have only the beginnings of a clue here.
RE: this is a tiny stick
# Nov 20 2002 at 9:35 AM Rating: Decent
Or possibly because if a caster has to melee they give him the consolation of doing some dmg before they are eaten. May also be to reward all those casters that kept their weapon skills up while all the other players were yelling at them to back out of the fight.

As far as the cleric summoned hammers, well, they're like handed to you from your God, they should be uber... heh.

I think they do it just to annoy you ;)

But seriously, they do this on lots of caster items. Look at the 19/20 dagger out of ntov. Or the 15/17 (that I can't remember the name of atm). Even the cleric summoned hammers have uber ratios (14/18 +10 vs undead). They do it because they can.
