Damage bonus is level dependent. I would surmise you are around level 52-54, if you are getting a +9 bonus.

At level 65, it is 13.
At level 28 its 1.
Goes up about 1 per every 3 levels, on 1h weapons.

I'm just trying to figure out which would be a better poker for my rogue, a Runebladed Dagger or a Gladiator's Jereed? This dagger is 15/23 and the Jereed is a 15/22 both with comparable stats. What do you think?

Definatly Jereed.... The weight makes such little diff, Jereed has better stats and ratio.

I noticed some discussion about daggers above 16 damage for Rogues...

The Pukka Dart (17/17...) may or may not be real.

Ifir, Dagger of Fire, however, is very real.

Drops of Fennin Ro, so good luck.

At 17/19, its a damn fine weapon no matter how you slice it. Add the stats... +12% mod to backstab. Holy crap that takes you to 252 backstab skill at level 65 (which is when you'll get this, if ever)And the proc... 100 DD... not huge but just the icing on an already very large cake. If there is better for rogues, then damn... it must be VERY hard to get ahold of.

I just got this and now am offhanding Ragebringer. This is a nice weapon. It looks so sweet when equipped. People ALWAYS ask "Hey link that thing". Too bad Ragebringer doesn't look equally as cool. Ragebringer looks like a rusty dagger compared to this thing. This thing looks wicked. Damage output is awesome.

This is a nice weapon, though i dont think its worth 85k.By my pricing (which is not al that acurate but not that bad=P) it should be around 40-50k. Im on tunare so the prices on things are lower than a couple of other servers . I just saw a red dragonscale bp for 3400, which is great, usually around 10k.

You are a ranger so swapping weapons is no problem (i used to swap on my ranger all the time)...when you are a rogue you have to dance around constantly to get around behind enemies. Strafing involves holding down mouse buttons and other keying. Swapping weapons constantly when backstab refreshes in only 8 seconds is well...silly. Classic comment from someone who does not play said class.

Your statement about swaping in weapons for BS, is the worst nonsens i have heard in a while...When I am raiding with my guild i barely have time to swap in my primal to refresh avatar and that last several minutes..You simply have to consentrate on keeping max melee, avoiding AE's etc..no way you can swap weapons for in for BS no matter how fancy your UI is.

Heh, then you're just basically lazy.
I know rogues who swap their Ragebringers for other weapons after backstab is used, and utilize better ratio swords/daggers untill the skill recycles for the next use.

Ragebringer's pure ratio isnt the best for meele damage (non backstab mind you, this is @ dmg/delay ratio) there are many weapons in NtoV alone which outdamage Ragebringer situationally when you aren't backstabbing with it.

And swapping can be done easily even without the new UI.

Hotkey your weapon slots, put them in hotkey bank somewhere on the bottom. And hotkey a bag into a general inventory slot, make sure the bag only has which ever weapons you plan to swap with.

When backstab is used, open bag, click ragebringer, put it in offhand, swap the previous offhand weapon for a better ratio one from the bag, meele till backstab is ready to use again.

Once you are used to doing this, you can swap weapons in less than 1 second time. Ive been swapping myself for well over 20 levels now depending on whats needed at any given time, and depending on which debuffs my swords hold.

So silly it may not even be worth spending the time explaining. Perhaps you shouldn't buy characters off ebay...

Thing is with rogues, 2/3 of their damage post 55 is through BS not melee damage. therefore delay is not nearly as important as damage. added to which the haste out there that we have available now with bard/beastlord make daggers like Ifir dangerous for aggro due to low delay.

Rogue = Backstab pure and simple. With my rogue at 65 with Ragebringer I constantly do double bacstabs over 1k dmg you just can't compare melee damage with that.

#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 02 2002 at 8:04 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) u dont even have to do that, jus right click and hold with mouse an item in your backpack, the slot will now be on your cursor. take that and place in your 10 slots hot key. Do the same for the weapon in your hand. place them side by side so your mouse movement is minimized. I do this all the time as a warrior. I use the Weighted axe for the initial hit on an incoming mob. then switch it back after the first swing. It usually takes taunt immediately due to the large hits you bring. At level 45 I double critical hit for 330s each. Cripling blow was 723. Highest I have ever had since. I am level 59 now.

Sorry guys, but swapping weapons for every backstab just isn't practical. High-end rogues have too much else that they're doing during combat.

If you assume 100% haste, backstab refreshed every 5 seconds. (Keep in mind that with a bard in the party, the rogue could have even more haste.) Hide - for evade - refreshed every 10 seconds, unless the rogue spends AA points to make it faster.

During a fight, we're nearly constantly moving. We have to continually reposition ourselves to be in position for backstabs, but stay at max melee range for agro. Yes, even if the MA is keeping agro the whole time, the mob is being pushed around. And we often have to jockey for position with the other melees (who *don't* have to worry about their exact position). However, when we evade we must be standing perfectly still. And due to network latency, we need to be still for a full second or two. Yes, we do need to evade throughout most of the fight, whether we have agro or not.

Oh, and to evade, we need to turn autoattack off before we hit hide, and then turn it back on.

So during every 10 second span, assuming we're not doing anything else, we're performing at least 5 keystrokes that have nothing to do with movement.

For movement, there are two options. Both hands on the keyboard, or one on the keys and one on the mouse (FPS style). For those who move with both hands on the keyboard, it's pretty annoying to have to move a hand over to the mouse and click twice, in synch with backstab, every 5 seconds, while still doing constant manuevering. For those who use the mouse for positioning, it's pretty annoying to have to break out of mouselook, make sure the pointer is over the weapon slot, click - backstab - click, and resume mouselook, every 5 seconds, while still doing constant manuevering.

Oh, and have I mentioned the impact of network latency on weapon swaps?

Maybe we rogues are just too lazy, like the ranger above says. But let's see how many Shakespear soliloquies he's typing out while trying to do maximum archery damage.
RE: @Ulvian
# Aug 28 2003 at 3:24 AM Rating: Decent
max haste with a a bard singing rizlona's is ~130% haste (as long as the lvl 65 haste cap is still 100%).

10/2.3 = ~4.4seconds between backstabs refresh.

evade can be hotkeyed with a social (attack off, hide, attack on). I'm not sure exactly how fast evade gets with AAs, but I'll assume it winds up similar to backstab.

So 2 keypresses every 4.4 seconds. That's about the same a bard twisting 2 songs.

Any decent bard is "casting" every 3-3.5 seconds; a good one can maneuver, switch targets for mez, turn off autoattack to remez and turn it back on after back on the correct target, can juggle instruments, and more.

Methodology: Hold bacstab weapon on your cursor, and hold your cursor over your primary weapon slot (either in UI or hotkeyed). when backstab refreshes, click left button (swaps primary weapons), hit backstab button, and then click left button again (swapping back)

It means you're going to have to learn to maneuver properly with keyboard only, but that's not really that difficult.

Sure, it takes a bit more effort, but from my perspective (bard), not doing it is simply being lazy. Since you're not a bard, I guess we can just let it slide eh?

As far as having to be perfectly still to evade because of latency... use a caster trick and turn slightly; you don't even have to turn a full degree. that's enough to start a spell without making a channeling check so should work fine for evade.

I really have no idea what you mean by latency affecting weapon swaps... I've seen no effect on juggling in instruments for maximum effectiveness.

When will rogues stop crying about majority of their piercers from the high end game being 15-16 damage?

Personally, you all know that is not about the ratio either, hell if there was a 20/80 piercer out there, it would become the most elite rogue weapon just for the means of swapping it in for backstab.

Rogues with 16 damage piercers do extremely good Dps at level 60, and Verrant seems pretty firm that the only way their Dps will go up, is from either procs, or lowered delays on weapons.

Maybe, and this is far fetched, we will see a 17 damage rogue piercer, but in that case I wouldn't be at all suprised of the delay on the weapon was extremely slow, so it becomes situational for Bs use only.

Look at the way Wizard nukes scale post 50, Outside of the Mana Burn, there aren't any 5000+ damage spells for them. Yes you have lowered cast times, resist checks, and mana costs, but the over all pure damage improvement is very small, if any.

Once Verrant is happy with the way a certain class scales against the other already "balanced" classes, that said class isn't liable to recieve much in terms of upgrading, be it in terms of gear availeable to them, or AA skills, or even spells.

Atm I think the 100% balanced classes are:
Rogue
Monk
Warrior
Wizard
Enchanter
Cleric
Shaman
Bard

Classes which are very close to being balanced are:
Ranger: Pure meele dps should be raised, weapons availeable to RNG only should be scaled to have higher Dps than ones availeable to warriors from the same mob tiers, some spell stacking issues, and the 61+ nukes should have their casting times lowered. As archery is powerfull enough in its current form, and its balancing factor seems to be LoS, just add auto attack to it if anything, and at a certain level (65?) make double damage to mobs standard, regardless of standing still or not. Triple attack at lv 62+

Druid (Still need a niche for themselves pre level 58, before they get their 75% heal, some buff(s) which stack with the cleric/shaman line and add Hp/Ac)

Mage (Pets are fine as they are, but mages need some sort of of utility skill, such as summoning weapons which are actually good to use at a given level, and not pet handeable, lets say a lv 65 spell summons a 16/18 weapon or something, nuke resists should be lowered)

Classes which atm need major overhauls in terms of improvement of their viability in raids/groups.

Necromancer: At the moment their major function in raids is that of mages before mana rod nerf...they manapump till their knuckles bleed, while the Raise dead AA is very nice, its still a lv 61+ skill, In undead zones, necromancers should be as viable for crowd control as enchanters are, AE undead mezzes, DD Undead Mezzes etc)

Beastlord: This class will without doubt be the hardest one to balance, the whole idea of Shaman/Monk is very flawed as far as my opinion goes, their dependancy on pets for Dps hampers the class immensly in AE mob encounters, and their buffs are in general watered down Shamanic Buffs.)

Shadowknight & Paladin: The two knights do much worse damage than warriors, they don't tank nearly as well as warriors, so as it stands now they are at a disadvantage on both areas. I believe Verrant should add code which would cause shields to further increase meele mitigation, so as far as Backup Tanking, and exp tanking goes, SK and Pal can do it slightly better (not enough to make /defensive inferior mind you)

Erm enjoy the essay, it was influenced by people who think Rogues suck, and need 20 damage piercers :)

personally as a wizard, i would have to disagree.

most of our nukes are too rare to count as effective. most 60 wizards i know of, that are in descent sized guilds are still lacking sunstrike, so that leaves them a 1200 point nuke for 400 mana that effects cold (really useful in velious eh?) at 60/61 im still using draught of fire, which is a lvl 51 spell, because of the sustained dpm out of it, and the fact that i have no other descent fire based spell, because i am lacking sunstrike. i've never seen it drop, and i've done too many dragons, emp kills, tola kills, and guardian wurm kills to shake a stick at, and its driving me nuts. as for err/gss im not even gonna talk about those. until vi reduces the rarity of spells in general, and not just wizard spells (ie shammie malo/torp/pob/PE) its not worth starting a caster again.

As a wizard I don't think I do very much damage at all. Don't think that would change even if I dished out 100k for a spell my guild should prolly pay for with all their horn of hsgara and whatever else droppable auctions. Basically we are a gating class for the next target. We also stay out of the way, bet it sucks being a melee trying to hit the mob with 50 other people jumping over eachother. Anyway I'm sick of the class, time to play a real damage class and join the jumping game.

As of now on the Allakhazam database there are 2 16 Damage Rogue Usable Piercers.

Khalshazar https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=13250
and
Bloodbath https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=13241

Both are vastly better than the epic, IF you have a similar haste item in your inventory (40%+) and even if you don't, their effects, procs, and ratios make them superior. Both drop in Ssraeshza Temple.

There are about (15) 15damage piercers in the database, including the epic. There may be more undiscovered in PoP.

There are currently none above 16 damage, to my knowledge. The reason for this is that beyond that damage, a Rogue could easily outdamage even the best Wizzy DD Spell with a simple attack that refreshed every 6 seconds or so. Can you imagine the complaints?
