Drops off "an infested plaguespreader" in Plane of Disease. It's a rat and I saw it in front of the castle area.

What did it con to your character and what level is your character? Looks like we're missing this NPC.

Anyone know what drops the Cleaver of Souls?

I have been told that it drops in the Plane of Disease, but off of what? No one seems to have any other information.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 12 2002 at 11:34 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) well all you people that are posting about someone whom i dont see in this list right now... what druid and what were they talking about (i just dont see the post) my monk has epics and got some bad news for ya...the epics haste only works on hand to hand (primary or secondary) or 1hb weapon in the off hand... you get the atk boost and all that but if u got a 2hb you dont get the haste =\ tested it many time with my Tstaff i dont swing ANY faster while using my epic + CoF than just with CoF. But when using a ulak and Scepter of mastery i do see an increase in attacks with main hand when using epics haste
RE: haste
# Nov 13 2002 at 9:07 AM Rating: Decent
Please don't post disinformation like this on boards seen by thousands of peeps.

Epic haste of course works with 2handers just as well as with 1handers and hand to hand.

'Seeing', or actually not 'seeing' is not enough, you got to parse it, and that implies to have misses on, for example.

All I can do is to hope that your post is gonna be buried deep in the depths of this forum's database.

#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 12 2002 at 12:00 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) to cleave means to cut right? you need a blade to cut! so why is this a 2HB? DUH! maybe just call it Crusher of Souls. Tell me VI is not this lazy.
too slow? too heavy?
# Nov 12 2002 at 12:56 AM Rating: Default
hahahaha. it's niether too slow or too heavy. I'd take this in a second. although I guess I'm still using a baton of faith at 54... aw well. very nice ratio. can't imagine how fast this would be with an average haste item and epic. something like, 25 delay. would be nice. =)
RE: too slow? too heavy?

Yes, this is a great DROPPABLE monk 2HB! (Ok, ok, so BSTs can use too. :) Replaces the Amy Staff (https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=11931) and Tranquil Staff (https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=572) as the best droppable monk weapon.

Some random damage calculations...

2HB weapons can be compared using the (modal/delay) ratio. This doesn't translate directly into DPS, but can be used to compare weapons.

Modal = 2 * (Base Damage) + Damage Bonus

Assume the disease damage is resisted 50% of time (have no idea if this is reasonable):

Modal = 2 * 38 + Damage Bonus

I'm not sure of damage bonus for this weapon. Of course, it's dependent on level -- a pretty old formula gave DB = 1HB Dam. Bonus + (Lvl-27)/4 (rounded down) for a 2HB with this delay, but I think it's been raised to make 2HB competitive with comparable 1HB's. (A link to a great damage calculations guide on Monkly Business, written by Xaas Swifttail -- http://www.monkly-business.com/articles2.asp?ArticleNum=66)

Assume DB = 20 at level 54 (probably pretty close)

Modal/Delay (unhasted) = 96/34 = 2.82

Modal/Delay (21% item haste) = 96/28 = 3.43

Modal/Delay (36% item haste) = 96/25 = 3.84

Modal/Delay (21% item + epic) = 96/21 = 4.57

Modal/Delay (36% item + epic) = 96/19 = 5.05

So what do these numbers mean? Compare against Tranquil Staff, using same damage bonus for level 54 (20), and assuming proc is 120dd + 4 sec stun every 80 hits. (Pretty reasonable from parsed data.) That would make TS equivalent to a 30.75/30 weapon (arguably).

TS:
Modal/Delay (unhasted) = 81.5/30 = 2.72 (-4% vs. CoS)

Modal/Delay (21% item haste) = 81.5/25 = 3.26

Modal/Delay (36% item haste) = 96/25 = 4.29

Modal/Delay (21% item + epic) = 96/21 = 4.79

Modal/Delay (36% item + epic) = 96/19 = 5.05

So, net result is CoS is about 4-5% better DPS than TS. Also, less aggro (longer delay, no stun proc), less riposte and DS damage.

Sorry for all the numbers, but I had to prove to myself that CoS displaces TS as most desirable droppable monk weapon :)

Good information, and good number crunching.

I don't think the 4-5% increase in DPS (which is arguable) makes this more desirable than a Tranq Staff, though. The T-staff's proc is still one of the best weapon procs in existence. An unresistable stun (non-stunnable mobs, such as giants and dragons aren't immune to it's effect) is a great thing to reduce the mob's damage output. For the soloing monk (although a vanishing breed, admittedly) it's one of the best tools around.

Not arguing the ratio of the CoS being superior, but I really don't think this weapon necessarily replaces a T-staff except in some situations. A 0-12 second unresistable stun is still incredible.

Would I trade my T-staff for the CoS? No. Would I add a CoS to my collection if I could? Hell yes :) I would use the CoS in a normal xp group where I wanted to stand behind the MA and avoid agro at all costs. Same with raids. Soloing, I'll pull out the T-staff.

T-staff proc
# Nov 20 2002 at 2:57 AM Rating: Decent
T-staff proc is unresistable, as far as the 120dd goes...but the actual stun doesn't affect 56+ mobs or unstunnable mobs(Dragons/Giants/etc..)

RE: T-staff proc
# Jun 05 2003 at 6:13 PM Rating: Decent
The 120dd is resistable, the stun itself is resistable, BUT the stun interrupts casting of giants, dragons and all the gods I've encountered so far, so part of the stun effect is what is not resistable.
Weight
# Nov 11 2002 at 10:33 PM Rating: Decent
4.0wt isn't bad for a 2hb weapon. Look at Tstaff, which is 10.0wt and many monks use that. I'm sure there are many monks out there who would use this without hesitation.

#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 11 2002 at 9:49 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Its such a nice weapon, but its too heavy and slow for a monk, it would be alright for a bst, but it would be amazing for pally or sk...
RE: kind of a waste
# Nov 13 2002 at 5:34 PM Rating: Default
Do you have a monk? Do you use a monk? I didn't think so. 4.0 wt is heavy for a monk? How many monks do you see DWing Fighting batons (2.0 wt EACH), or a Fighting Baton and Cane of Tranquil (2.5wt), or a Jade Mace (2.1wt) and a Stave of Shielding (3.2wt),etc. Guess what, all these combinations are equal to, or greater than 4.0 wt!! Go take your 2cp and spend it on a math book, rather than using it here making ridiculous opinions.

On another note, Anyone have info where this thing drops?

you are obviously not aware of the monk usable 2hb items are you?

peacebringer is a nice weapon, monk only 28/30 9 or 10 weight.
Tstaff 29/30 effect 100 blows 10 weight

runed fighters staff 19/20 forget the weight offhand but its around 6 weight.

many monks prefer 2hb for the heavy damage it does and with a decent haste item and epic they can get 81% self haste, so yeah this would be a hella good choice for monks.

No, it's more a case of showing what a sub level 40 player, who's toon is not a monk knows.. claiming it's indicative of druids is highly predjudiced and classist.

/em opens the floodgates to the people claiming to be <40 character who DO know.. yada yada..

Unless that thing has blades on the end, I think one is going to have a hard time cleaving.... unless of course the soul part of the name means it has spiritual blades that cleave through the soul, but wouldn't a bladed weapon make more sense? Then again, Soe/Verant never makes sense.

No they never make sense :-) Just have the best MMORPG out and most played and one all the people who whine about them can't seem to stop playing. Ya makes no sense at all but it sure makes the $$$$
