Listen noobs

Use common sense. Those resists are pretty damn trivial when your local bard can sing a song that can easily compensate. The big sticker in this is the mana pres and the fact it is usable by ALL spell-casting classes. If your killing VT for backflagging and the loot is considered ebay fodder, then yes by all means bid to your heart's content, but for any warrior gimp or rogue who is going to take this over some needy spell-casters, well I hope you quickly hit the delete button on your character screen so you can save face, or I hope your guild leader takes one good long look at his roster and /guild delete cuz your guild is run by a bunch of noobs!
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 11 2004 at 8:27 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) When we used to take down VZ for loot, any pure melee who decided to bid on this was booted off the guild. Nowadays, this item is junk so we give them to noobs we randomly recruit into our raids from out of the blue.
I am happy.

I am very happy as a Beastlord with this item. I run low on mana all the time when xp-ing, since I am far from Uber yet. It cost me a fair chunk of DKP, which I earned by raiding 3-4 times a week. I got lots of gratzes and no envy-tells or anything.

The problem is, there's almost *always* a reason to let something go to another class then the Beastlord, if you are strictly thinking from a Raid perspective. At Raids we dont use our Slows, nor our Buffs, nor our Heals. We do use our gimpy Nukes but any Druids, Wizards and Mages could use the mana for nuking much more. We do give the Raid BL crack and we do our Paragon trick, but this would hardly justify the need for an MPIV item.
However, when you look at an item like this, and the class of the Beastlord outside the Raid perspective, suddenly almost all of the stats make sense. The only stat that doesn't is the Int. All the rest is usefull for a tanking, buffing, meleeing and casting Beastlord.

Since I play this game for more then the Raids, I bid on the item and won it. I am glad that I am in a Guild that understands this. :)

Seems to me that anybody could make good use of this, but really it should go to a class that at least uses mana. But 18 to all resists and all those hp/mana makes it a nice item. I was part of a pickup raid a long time ago and this dropped. With my wonderful luck I had a power outage and didn't even get to hail the pp :(

took vz down couple of nites ago.. Dropped 2 of these and bunch of spectrals.. not sure if it's such a rare drop.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 07 2003 at 2:55 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I Don't think this should be limited to priest classes only.. however I think some people lack the knowledge of just how FEW mpIV items there are out there. Unless you are in a pretty uber guild you are most likely not going to have access to Ornate boots as a cleric though seeing as how they tend to sell upwards of 120k at least on Innoruuk. I have 150k to spend on ornate boots and yet I have still not found anyone to sell them to me .. so yeah there should be some extra consideration as to who is less likely to come up with another mpIV item.
Hmm

I think 100HP+resist is good for every melee at high Level but for low guild give it to caster/healer first =)

#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 01 2002 at 3:40 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) yea theres lots of classes that could use this but i think the biggest waste of this item would be if it went to a warrior unless that warriors going to like ToV then the saves would be awesome the 100hp would be another plus for a warrior but theres better things out there for a warrior but yea give this to a caster definitely if you don't have mana you most likely shuldn't get this item
#ParadiseLost, Posted: Sep 06 2003 at 10:35 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This item is good for any class. Why limit it just to casters? Oh because of MP4?

Limiting it is not ignorant. Any non-casting class with any sense of how drops/loot works in an endgame scenario should see that this item simply would benefit people who cast frequently far more than not. That is, nukers and hybrids.

Sure, it could be an "upgrade" to a rogue, monk or warrior, and not an upgrade to lets say a time wizard, but if your guild is "farming" VZ, you're not farming it for this to go to warriors.

And on the point of farming, there is plenty of room for a guild to be able to kill VZ but not mith marr, rydda, bertoxx, rallos, etc. Just because you are farming VZ doesn't mean everyone in your guild is ornate+.

Limiting it is not ignorant, ignorance in this case would be not seeing that there are far better (and more specific) neck pieces for non-casters than this one that are as readily available to any VZ capable guild as this piece.

wtf would a warrior want with this
i do not see a warrior going for this
if the warrior is in a point system guild, a caster would probably spend a lot more points on this than the warrior, and if the warrior was in a merit guild, then if wouldnt be given to a warrior.

thx

I'm a warrior, and this would be an upgrade for me. However, there is no way in hell I would ask for this over any caster. There are other items in this slot more suited for us pure melee.

Giving a mana pres IV item to a warrior just so he can get 100 hitpoints would be ridiculous.

# Nov 24 2002 at 11:33 AM Rating: Decent
Normally I don't argue about who gets what item, but you can get a black sapphire necklace with 65 hp if you want it that bad. MP IV is one of the best focus effects for casters in the game and if it does not go to a caster (probably a cleric), then someone has made a mistake.

Unfortunately, since mana pres 4 doesn't work on CH, it's good but not amazing for clerics. Equally useful for most caster classes, I could see this going to a druid as easily as a cleric. But at this stage in the game, 100+ hp necklaces aren't nearly as rare as mana pres 4 necks, and anyone that gave this to a warrior might well have a mutiny on their hands.
RE: Unbelievable
# Nov 10 2003 at 4:25 PM Rating: Default
um yea, ch isnt the only spell a cleric has.... not to mention CH is no where close to high mana cost for a cleric (400). the lvl 61 quick heal and the lvl 62 HoT costs the same mana as CH, the bigger lvl 63 heal is 600 mana.... and it DOES work on those spells, which most clerics end up having to cast more then CH. not to mention HoV is 2500 mana ;) i dunno about you but i'd say this is great for clerics, save mana on heals... more heals you can cast, longer group stays alive ;) im not saying this should only go to a cleric, would be great for a shaman too with all the buffs and slows have to cast, wizards nuke more and so on, but i would rather see it go to a PURE caster. who would you rather have run oom first, your clr/shm/enc or your rng/bst/pally ?

# Nov 12 2002 at 1:02 AM Rating: Default
Item definitely screams priest class. Would be a pity to see it go to a monk, rogue, or even int casters first. The focus effect screams Cleric, Shaman, Druid in more or less that order. Although the last two could be switched around due to lack of sta for a Shaman. Any class would be very happy with the item, but would be a shame to go to classes that would waste the focus effect. Very good item for anyone who obtains it. Hard to find 18 sv all in any slot, let alone a neck slot that has a very apparant weakness for high end character stats.

This item "screams" nuker/CControl more than anything, since this doesn't effect % heals or complete heals. At the end of the day, however, anyone who has a manapool could use this in EXP situations. In raid situations, one more mez, one last nuke could be the difference between success and failure.

Cleric only? The very notions smells of bias. Bah- no more than any other pure caster. Any guild is going to do it however they like at the end of the day, but clerics aren't the only providers in a raid -- that role can be filled up just like any other.

My highest is a Necro, but I've played many other classes as well and I read a lot. My 2 cents: Would the item be great for any class?...Yes Should the item go to just any old class?...ABSOLUTELY NOT The answer to the obvious riddle is >> pure casters <<. Good focus effects, in particular MP4, can often be more useful and more desirable than disciplines, and MP4 is too valueable for them. A melee clase in particular would make only partial use out of this item -- only a pure caster would see the full benefit of it. Why be wasteful? Giving this to a Warrior would be like giving the best melee damage weapon in the game to a pure caster just because it had +40 Int and Wis on it... wasteful... let them get those stats elsewhere. Keep it efficient.

As a cleric, I can easily agree with you, but this is truly an all/all item. Forget the MP4 for a second, and anyone could want it. 18 sva, 100 HP, 100 mana. Add back the mana preservation...well, 11 out of the 15 classes in the game use mana to at least some extent. (I'm excluding bards.) Not very critical in the hands of a ranger, but as far as I'm concerned they or even a rogue have as much right to it as a cleric or a wizard.

How can you say "forget the main statistic that is present on the item" in some sort of validation of it's utility?

It's utility lies in the MP4, why would you reduce the item to:

AC15 DEX10 HP100 SVALL18 by handing it to pure melee when an

AC15 DEX10 WIS10 INT10 HP100 MANA100 SVALL18 MP4 item helps your guild in a raid situation so much more?

If you're able to get this item, you don't care about wisdom or int if you're a caster.

It benefits all casting classes because of the Mana Preservation 4. And everyone can use the +100 to both HP and mana, as well as the excellent saves vs all.

Good item for everyone, not just priest classes.

Ok, I have to take issue with one statement you make:

Quote:
If you're able to get this item, you don't care about wisdom or int if you're a caster.

Now, you have to be in a good guild to get to this encounter, but I know many people in big raid guilds, that do not yet have their WIS or INT up to the 355 cap. Also, many hybrids don't have theirs up to the 280 cap for hybrids. Basically, you COULD be in a raid for this, and still not have your wis capped at 355, especially if you're a new recruit, or a hybrid (pally, ranger, etc)

My take on this item is, I agree with those who say it is an all/all item. My guild is nowhere near killing this guy, and I already have MP4 on my cleric. Its not that hard to get mana pres items, particularly with the ornate armor quests open to all 55+ now.

decent ac for neck slot, 100hp, +18 all saves and +10dex make this a melee item as well as caster and hybrid.

Everyone would benefit, yes, but there's only one class that could use it to its fullest: necromancer. Given 100 extra mana and 100 extra HP *and* the mana preservation, a necro can decide where to throw mana and who to prop up when the going gets tough. A cleric can heal, and that's fine but healing doesn't help when the enchanters are OOM. Healing doesn't help when the wizzy can't quite get off that last nuke.

This is an item that should go to whoever will make the best use of it. If, in your group, that's a shadow knight or a ranger or a mage, then cool. I would probably not want to see it go to a non-caster, but beyond that, it's all about using it wisely.
RE: Screams
# Nov 18 2002 at 6:51 AM Rating: Default
Since when do hybrids not take damage, or use mana?

It's fully useable by all folks who use mana who can obtain the item.

Priest class only? Nah.
Int casters would love that extra mana. They also use mana to cast spells. Tanks maybe for the extra hp. Would be a tough call who it would go to actually.

Anyone else have an issue with the name? :)

It's like saying "complaining whiner" or "lupine wolf"... using an adjective to 'explain' a noun which already contains the meaning of the adjective :P

Not really. By saying triumphant, you are saying that the victor is proud of his accomplishment. A victor doesn't have to be triumphant, he could be sorrowful, for example, upon looking on the battlefield and seeing his dead comrades. The point I am making is that not all victors are necessarily triumphant and thus the adjective works here to describe what type of victor it is.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 12 2002 at 12:49 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) No... Triumphant means to have won. It's a redundancy, it is overstated.
RE: name

Triumph is a state of exultation at a victory. Many victories are Pyrrhic in nature, where the victor is left feeling regret or sorrow rather that triumph

Although this is great for everyone, I'd hate to see a pure melee get this item due to focus effect.
