Magic Based Spells?
# Dec 01 2003 at 11:46 AM Rating: Default
At http://lucy.fnord.net and here above it says magic resistance is allowed. So... wouldn't that mean that the nuke is not restricted to magic type but that the mob can use its MR against this affecting it? It is a resist restriction not a spell type restriction...

Magic resistance allowed means that it will only work on nukes that are checked against the magic resist. ie Magic based nukes

only really valuable to a Wizzy or Chanter...

Mages have a number of magic-based nukes (Black Steel, for instance) -- it's cold-based that they lack compared to wizards.

I don't know about mages, but in addtion to the wizzy & chanter you mention, this would also be very nice for a necro. For one, the stats are very nice but as for the focus effect, our dd Lifetaps are magic based. I know I'd LOVE to get 23% more HPs back from my dd Lifetaps. That just makes them all the more efficient.

Necromancers also have valuable DoTs that are magic-based, most prominently Dark Nightmare and the Darkness line of snares. True, a focus on the snare is mostly useless, but a focus on DN is pretty nice. Its generally easier to just buy a Glowing Stone of Expulsion for magic-based focus, or maybe just use a BA5 item from DoN...though BA5 is a little less damage IIRC.

Problem with that is you're not going to get the 23% more HP back from this focus... They'll do 23% more damage, but you need IH focus to get the extra HP back.

No, I beg to differ. When I dd Lifetap a mob and I have my ID4 foci equipped, I do more damage and get that hps in return. This foci follows the same rules as ID4. The only difference is that ID4 is any DD, where as this is magic DD only and this has 3% more increase to damage.
Harm touch

I know improved damage works on Harm Touch, but will this? And if not, anything?
RE: Harm touch
# Mar 25 2004 at 8:48 PM Rating: Decent
nope wont work on HT cause this is INT caster only :/
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 13 2004 at 8:45 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) shadowknights ARE int casters

The usage of *caster* is generally understood to exclude hybrids such as Shadowknights - a melee/casting class with INT based class. Off the top of my head, I can't think of an Anger of Druzzil item equippable by an SK, tho I'm sure there are some.

At any rate, Harm Touch shows a Disease resist on LUCY, and so (as I understand such stuffs), while this Magic resist focus effect will not help Harm Touch, but an across the board one or a Disease based one will. But research this apart from my own guesswork before you act on it. ;)

The effect and the spells

We all know that many of our level 61-65 spells are magic based as well. Agnarrs is magic and works really nice.
OMG
# Nov 15 2002 at 4:09 AM Rating: Default
Wow, this is very very nice. I'm always looking for ways to get more int and getting an item that has 12 friggn in on one of your wrists is insane. It's always nice to have extra int for when you finally get to 65 and feel like raising your int cap past 255 with the new AA abilities.
RE: OMG
# Aug 20 2003 at 2:42 AM Rating: Good
Your int cap raises by it self past 60 at 5 per lvl. Then there are aa's that go beyond that. So int/wis cap for casters at 65 is 280, and that max's at 355 with all the aa's.
Hmm... oddly...

In responce to several different posts:

First, here in the effect so you do not need to click on it to see it...

Description:
1: Increases spell effectiveness up to 23%
2: Restriction: Spells level 65 and lower
3: Restriction: Only applies to 'Hit Points (HP)' spells
4: Restriction: Affects 'Instant' spells only
5: Restriction: 'Detrimental' spells only
6: Restriction: 'Location Based AoE' spells excluded
7: Restriction: 'Point Blank AoE' spells excluded
8: Restriction: 'Target Based AoE' spells excluded
9: Restriction: 'Giants' spells excluded
10: Restriction: 'Dragons' spells excluded
11: Restriction Attribute: 87 (1)

Details:
Casting Time: Instant
Recast Time: 0 seconds
Skill: Conjuration
Allowed Targets: Self
Resist: None
Range to target: 100

There is no mention of a limitation to magic based spells. This is the interpretation of the spell effect:

Its a self only buff which increases the damage output on single target DD spells of level 65 and lower. The percentage increase of damage is 23%. For example, The wizard spell Sunstrike does 1615 hp of damage when unresisted. With this spell in effect, it would do 1986 hp of damage unresisted.

This is very much akin to the Improved Damage line of focus effect items with the additional restriction to single target only spells.

in fact

11: Restriction Attribute: 87 (1)

means magic spells only

Alla's parsing isn't as developed as Lucy's, yet. The effect is indeed MR-restricted. Also, it's not a buff, it's a focus effect. The difference is pretty important when you've got a full count of raid buffs on.
RE: Hmm... oddly...
# Nov 06 2002 at 12:47 AM Rating: Decent
good poost just one minor correction . not even a correction really.
it increases spell damage UP TO 23 percent meaning the average will most likely fall at 12 percent or about 1800 damage on the grand average of things
RE: Hmm... oddly...
# Nov 27 2002 at 9:38 AM Rating: Default
Just wondering where you got the 1800 figure. (i.e. which spell are you using?)

Agnaar's Thunder is 2305 damage * 112% = 2582 average

2305 * 123% = 2835 max
I have to throw this in...

nice
# Nov 05 2002 at 9:30 PM Rating: Default
this is a nice item, the int is nice but at the lvl it takes to obtain this you have usually capped it, but the mana and the 2 resist and if you are a necro the extra hp from the sta and the hp stat this is great. and who couldn't use the dex. Not to mention the effect is decent if i understand it correctly but i am not positive i do so i will have to look into it more, thanks for all the info on your post and the link SirhcTurren that may help me to understand it more.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 06 2002 at 8:17 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yes, but is everyone forgetting that the Stat Cap is now higher with PoP? Think outside that 255 box folks.
The effect....
# Nov 05 2002 at 7:04 PM Rating: Decent
One more time shall we? So basically this improves the amount of damage all nukes under level 65 do.

Nuke_01 = 1000hps damage
Nuke_01 + Anger of Druzzil = 1230hps damage
RE: The effect....
# Nov 05 2002 at 8:49 PM Rating: Good
That is incorrect. The effect only affects Magic based nukes. Go look at the spell effect at http://lucy.fnord.net

The effect...
# Nov 05 2002 at 5:13 PM Rating: Decent
...basically boosts the dmg of Magic based spells by 23%, as long as they don't match up with anything in the Restricted list...
