A Quick Question...

What skill level in Pick Locks is needed to open the 2(?) locked doors in Ssraeshza? And I don't mean the portal to the Emperor, I know it requires its own special quested key.

I made a Lvl 70 Rogue (Shroud) in an attempt to make my way through the first locked door (on the first level, near entrance) and utterly failed to pick the lock. It stated unequivocally that my Skill just wasn't high enough. Apparently 200 just doesn't cut it, though I have to wonder how a Goblin Rogue could advance to Lvl 70 without ever bothering to advance his Pick Lock skill past that of a Lvl 39 PC Rogue...

A few years late, but what the heck .. the two doors on the first floor I think you're referring to require a Pick Lock skill of 210 or higher.

I think that the rogue shrouds were capped at 200 lockpick, unless it has been raised since. So with this item on the mouse cursor giving +3% it would still only be 206 skill. For players, they would be able to equip a Mechanized Lockpick or Gloves of the Brood to further boost the skill, but shrouds cannot wear any equipment so that is out of the question.

Those 2 doors in Ssra can be gotten around without lockpicking, to go through at least although not to come back, by levitating trickily on top of the door and ducking.

Is it possible these just modify your skill? In that case you would still need actual lockpicks to open the door, but your skill would be modified +3%.

I am unable to pick the Main door in CoM with these. My skill is 208. Works fine with normal lockpicks.

/bugged it. I suggest others try it and do the same

I have a 39 rogue with 200 lockpick skill (max for level) and a set of mechanical lockpicks (2% modifier) to provide,(presumably,a lockpick skill of 204.

Whilst I can open the first door in Chardok, and the first door in CoM, I can NOT open the second doors in either of these places.

Looking for some Cheirometric ones now in the hope that 206 lockpick skill will prevent me from having to level to 51.
Bah!

Well I've been using this cheirometric lockpick device since about level 40, to be able to open the CoM reaver door, and I was using them as a lockpick, in place of regular ones. I just went back there recently (about a week ago) and being level 58 now, I didnt really need the mod, but they were the only lockpicks I had on me, so I tried using them. Got the message "it's locked and you aren't holding the key" so does that mean they don't work as lockpicks anymore? I went and got a set of regular lockpicks and had no trouble. Anyone else have this problem?

I was just in Chardok and I had no trouble using these there. I have always used these as my lock picks.. just easier to keep on me than the lockpicks are. made hot key that equips these and then opens the door... also, they worked on the treasure chest in LDoN so I am assuming these still work as Lock Picks... However I also could no longer open the door in CoM.

I got me some of these the other day for only 400 platinum. That's the cheapest I've seen them. Before they usually went for 1000-1200 platinum so i was pleased. Mod certainly helped as well...was able to pick the door that leads to where the jade reavers drop with only 202 picklock skill. Wasn't sure if they acted as lockpicks themselves or if the mod applied if ya used em as lockpicks so i equipped em and used my regular lockpicks on the door.
Hope the price info is a little helpful...

Actually, the door to get to where the Jade Reavers drop is only a 200 skill lock.

But there are other 201 locks which these could certainly help with. :)
+3% so what?
# Dec 18 2002 at 5:20 PM Rating: Decent
Ok +3%.... are there any locks in the game that need a 216 lockpicking skill? If not, then what's the point?

LDON Chests in hard group or raid may sometimes require higher than 210 to open.

Dunno if the point is moot by now, but it is true, you can not pick the lock to the room that Dar Shade is in in Dragon Necropolis without 210 pick lock and a mod. I have the 3% mod gloves (gloves of the brood) from ssra, and was unable to pick the lock without having the gloves on... very late post, but one none the less :-p

the door to jailed dar's shade supposedly needs a 210 skill + mod to open.

Also dont forget not all lockpicking classes can get to 200 so far from what i have read and learned bards only get to 100 now true the would need to have extreme mods to pick in seb and such but these would at least insure thier ability to walk into the hole and other places that need a skill aboutthere we rogues are thiefs so we have the higher ability so if you dont want em sell em to a bard

Ok for lockpicks. I have mec. lockpicks, and a skill of 204. I have never not been able to open any door since my skill has been 200. All doors that can be picked, can now be picked. Other then raising your skill, there is NO need of these mec. lockpicks or gaunts. Good to have I guess, but really does nothing. Argue you will, but it will be for not.

These are excellent for one situation that has been neglected: the pre-39 rogue. Since a rogue's skill can hit 200 at 39, they can open *almost* any openable door in the game. But with one lockpick item it becomes possible to open anything. But before 39, it is possible to gather enough with these gloves (3%) and the mechanical lockpicks (2%) to open the CoM and Chardok doors earlier. For example, at 38 a rogue's cap is 195, and 195+5% = 204.75. At 37 190+5% = 199.5, so this depends on EQ's rounding system for skills and/or finding more picklock skill mod items. But either way, a 38 rogue can actually now open any door in the game, presuming they can get to it.

BTW, bought this for 450pp for my rogue (Brakken Beerbottles of Sol Ro) a few weeks ago.

one problem: skill mods dont add. only the best apply. so this + mech picks still = 3%

Correct skill mods do no add. Except for pick locks. (so far)

Get both a mechical lockpicks and Cheirometric Lockpick Device and you will see your mod lockpick skill in skill list increase to +5%

How hard is it for them to make an item like this, with a lockpick mod, that worked as a lockpick without having to have it on your cursor. some gloves dropped quite a while back in ME with a lockpick mod, and I got excited cause they had the mod and 25ac, but they didn't work as lockpicks while worn. I destroyed them the other day.
Price?
# Nov 06 2002 at 5:04 PM Rating: Decent
You guys have made some of these, obviously, what's the price run to make them, and how much would you sell them for? Nice gloves, not great, but nice, and not having to carry around my picks would speed things up.

I'd give somewhere between 500-1k for these, actually, maybe a little more - need to do some comparison shopping. Keep in mind that I don't know how hard it is to make them, so I'm speaking from a pure "item" stance.

I made one of these as well... but didn't know that they acted AS lockpicks and not just as a mod. Wow! Thanks Berix.

So a rogue with these needn't carry lockpicks anymore... I wonder though, can Mechanical Lockpicks, with their +2% mod, give that mod over via simply being in the possession of the rogue? As in, could these mods stack to a +5%?

Mods are supposed to stack, according to Verant - uh - Sony, but it's not a sure thing (last time I checked) that that was implemented correctly yet. Supposedly it didn't stack for a while, and it was to be corrected, but who knows when or if it has happened or will still happen! But the +mod items that I know of require being wielded or worn... or don't they? I've assumed that a Geerlok, for instance, needs to be wielded to give the mod... but does it? A Fleeting Quiver has to be in your inventory to have its affect on bow delay. It doesn't matter if it's in your top slot, or if arrows are being taken from another bag... just so long as it's above other quivers in your inventory it gives its effect.

Ut. Time to search EQ traders....

Any thoughts on what rogues would pay for this item? I'm imagining under 1k, but feel free to post your speculations, eh!
Lock picks built in?
# Nov 05 2002 at 5:19 PM Rating: Excellent
Since these are made from Mechanical Lockpicks which have a 2% lockpick mod, can someone confirm if these also have a lockpick skill mod?

I assume that by wearing these gloves, you can pick locks without putting the lockpicks on your cursor. Can anyone confirm this?

I can confirm these have a +3% lockpicking mod. They work just like any set of lockpicks do, being that you must remove the gloves and click on the door to pick it successfully.

Tinker skill is 218 and I both made them and tested it myself.
