How can you tell specifics when item "upgraded"?
# Jan 28 2004 at 11:14 AM Rating: Default
I see this was updated today but I don't ever seem to see what exactly it was about the item that was modified. I guess either I'm missing something or this site doesn't specify the particlar upgrade (?) Thanks ahead for some clarification.

i see it being 25mana decreased!
Got it for my ranger two days ago
# Nov 18 2003 at 5:39 PM Rating: Decent
Received this from AD two nights ago. Loving it on my ranger. the proc interrupts spells but not melee and definitely seems to reduce aggro more thant create it.
ya it is(
# Sep 06 2003 at 7:27 PM Rating: Default
sod has 0sec stun as a proc is what makes it such nice aggro, if not for the stun it would just be another dmg proc and mostly worthless

Effect: Ethereal Strike
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 75
2: Stun(1.00 sec/65)
3: Decrease Hate by 200
Type: Combat

It decreases hate far more than increasing it.

I love it, though as a bard with a small mana pool I wish it had 12 int with that 12 wis, or instead of :) not complaining though, and the proc is nice, it's interrupted many a caster. I agree it is slightly more agro than not, but its not worth giving to a tank as an agro proc, cause it's not.

Just got one of these tonite off Aerin`Dar and it is 15/20 not 14/20. Also the mana is 75 not 50. I have noticed that after a few procs on the same mob, i got agro right away, but that is only if it procced many times in a small amount of time. It is a great weapon nonetheless.

aggro?
# Jan 06 2003 at 12:49 AM Rating: Decent
Wonder if the stun aggro will equal or exceed the aggro decrease... anyone have hands on use? We have a lot of rangers would like to keep them alive more often :)
RE: aggro?
# Apr 05 2003 at 8:04 PM Rating: Excellent
Stun agro on ethereal strike very slightly outweighs the agro decrease. This data is from the Double Edged Greatsword of Visions, which has same proc. Confirm this by proccing and having the mob turn towards me.
RE: aggro?
# Aug 03 2003 at 5:24 AM Rating: Default
That very easily could have been the damage from the proc not to mention the damage from the hit itself.

It's really impossible to say whether the stun aggro is greater or not.
do you know what the proc does?
# Dec 07 2002 at 5:25 AM Rating: Default
I'll tell bout the proc its an agro decreser so this in a War's hands is useless

Oh yes, a warrior would never be in a situation where they need to have the second most aggro. After all, there's only one warrior on any raid and his/her job is just to hold aggro. Come on! This might allow a secondary tank to do serious damange above what they already have and help the MA by keeping the mob stunned. A stunned mob doesn't attack. Since it doesn't create a negative aggro, it just barely wipes out most of it, if an effective 16/20 weapon is the best weapon to hit with, and it keeps the target staring into space so they can't cast or attack, they darn well can use it!

"This might allow a secondary tank to do serious damange above what they already have and help the MA by keeping the mob stunned"

Forgetting that this is a 0.0 second stun, it does not stun the mob or delay its melee attack. 0.0 second stuns only interrupt spells the mob is casting if the proc isn't resisted and if the mob is within the stun's level cap (level 65 in the case of this weapon).

Exactly. Alla's needs an option to automatically filter posts that say that an item is for X class(es) when others are listed.

#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 05 2002 at 11:53 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This is the 2nd 1HB i have seen with a stun proc that has been like every class but shaman. A warrior firend of mine got some hammer with a stun on it sounds very shaman like (gavel of justice or something) but no shaman. Are they trying to limit us to spears in PoP? or just forgetting we use 1HB also.
#Tuluvar, Posted: Mar 22 2003 at 7:32 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) wtf are you nagging about twit. 60% of the items ive seen from PoP sofar are CLR DRU SHM or NEC WIZ ENC MAG. PoP definitely favors the casters and priests on random loot so plz stfu
RE: What no shaman?
# Mar 14 2003 at 1:01 AM Rating: Decent
notice that all the classes that can use this weapon save one (druid) can also dual wield so its not really like they left you guys off they just threw in druids.

as far as this being good for stuns being good for shammies...stuns are a major sorce of agro stack that on top of slow agro and your tank is gonna have trouble getting agro from you. but hey its your char do what you wanna =P
RE: What no shaman?
# Jan 15 2003 at 8:19 AM Rating: Default
I'm not sure, but I believe Shamans use clubs, not staves, I could be wrong though...
RE: What no shaman?
# Nov 05 2002 at 3:16 PM Rating: Default
yeah, you guys are right.. they seem to be excluding certain classes, i havent seen much shammy stuff from pop... but also, i havent seen much Sk stuff either (40sk main) ... why wouldnt Sk be on the list for this weapon? they've got war/rng/brd/rog ... the usual classes that can use weapons together are those plus Sk... whats going on? oh well, whatever =P silly verant is at it again
RE: What no shaman?
# Nov 05 2002 at 2:44 PM Rating: Default
Well, its non-cleric too ya know.... and clerics are pretty much the bomb when it comes to melee-priests now. So don't feel too bad )
RE: What no shaman?
# Nov 05 2002 at 2:31 PM Rating: Default
I'm beginning to think that they just totally forgot about shaman. I have been looking though alot of the PoP itmes and unless its for a healer, shaman seem to be left out, such as in this case.

I'm not sure if this is a good thing, a bad thing, or an indiffernt thing...Oh well, I dont do much pounding anyway, although equiping it for the stats would be nice.
RE: What no shaman?
# Nov 05 2002 at 3:06 PM Rating: Excellent
Well its only been a week, so give it some time ) Also, I have seen quite a few pieces of armor that are quite nice for shammies, Bulwark of Storms I think is one, a very nice shield from PoP with FT 1 on it plus a laundry list of our favorite stats.
As far as weapons go, yeah I will agree with you, stuff for shammies and cleric have been nil so far... but its my feeling there's still alot of uncovered content out their =)
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 05 2002 at 2:17 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) low weight? pfh, this is so obviously a monk item lol
Nice for non-MA
# Nov 05 2002 at 1:14 AM Rating: Decent
Personally I would think this is an excellent weapon for any of the melee classes listed that are NOT usually the MT. That does not mean it should NOT go to the warrior, since 1 warrior is not always a MT. However I really don't like the idea of it going to a druid... unless they really don't have something better for the +12wis +50mana...

Oh and the anything goes analogy is okay, but like Lenkyl said, they should not go half-assed on their job.
RE: Nice for non-MA
# Jan 08 2003 at 10:16 PM Rating: Decent
As if MTs don't have enough problams keeping aggro. Why give them an aggro reducing weapon? this should go to damage output classes imho. This should go to a monk, bst, or rogue.
RE: Nice for non-MA
# Nov 05 2002 at 11:45 AM Rating: Decent
I would have to totally agree with swiftbonez and Zorach this should never, ever be given to a druid unless no other class in the raid wants to bid or roll for it, not that the epic is better because with the last 2 expansions i see less and less epics in players hands but some of the nice moon or planes items, but come on this isn't exactly the best MT item either but they should definetly get a chance at this before a druid. I have a druid as well and though he isn't in the 60s yet i would not be stupid enough to take this and deprive a meatshield from having it.

not to mention there are plenty of primary and secondary wisdom and mana items for druid to have that have plenty of the two stats and more.

RE: Nice for non-MA
# Nov 05 2002 at 9:54 AM Rating: Good
I /agree to the above said. Put the druids last on the list when handing this staff out.

Even tho it seems to have a good portion of wis and mana, it will never, ever (ever) be better than the epic.
This staff being lvl-restricted as well should eliminate about 99% of all druids since they, at lvl58+ will:
1) have epic.
2) have something close to equal to epic (like those pretty nice luclin-swords).

And to those that like to rant because people think items doesn't belong in the hands of certain classes...My char is a lvl63 druid.

There's my 2cp.

Quarterstaff is meant to be held with one hand in the middle and the other hand part way between the middle and the end, hence was referred to as a "half and quarter staff" which was shortened through use to "quarter staff".
This term should never apply to a 1-handed weapon.
Nice proc!
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 05 2002 at 7:03 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Maybe if we call it the Giant Toothpick of Shiny Happy People, there will be less ******** about the etymology of a fictional weapon in a fictional game that can be wielded by gnomes and ogres alike and never seems to matter that on the gnome its the size of a REGULAR toothpick but on the ogre its about the size of a small giraffe.
RE: etymology

<SIGH>

heres somthing i dont understand. We complain and bring up things on how it should be. In this case, the improper use of quarterstaff.

Now, why hasnt the fact that Ogres and Trolls are runnin around with elves and lizard men who can use magic been brought up as somthing completley fake.

Its like at the movies, "Oh thats so fake" meanwhile the fact that superman has breath that can freeze things hasnt been complained about yet....

all im sayin people, is if youre gonna complain, remember, this is fantasy, anything goes.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 05 2002 at 1:17 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I belive Ruleslawyer comes to mind here. To many people like to complain about this or that, when they should just worry about having fun. Like the Ikky saids it's fantasy, try to enjoy it. :)

ummm, worst analogy ever!

Just because the game has fantasy creatures and magic doesn't mean historical terms should be IMPROPERLY used.

It's not called a quarterstaff for nothing... there's a reason behind it... Ever wonder why people complain when a "Helm" is able to be worn on the back and not the head?

Fantasy doesn't mean anything goes, or else we'd all be SuperMan in the game and we'd be wearing helms on our feet!

then they need to start making up their own terms imho. long as they call it a quarterstaff people that know what one is will expect it to be that. when it's not they'll *****.

it's fantasy true but when you borrow from real life don't do a half-assed job of it.
