I have a shimmering velium ruby with a picture of red gem (not the blue sapphire pictured above). I guess there are a few possible explanations: there are multiple shimmering velium rubies with different looks, that is the wrong pic above, or they changed the pic to better reflect the name of the item.

I would hit the cute frost bite dwarves first. There were at least 3 in that banking complex, but if you want to hunt you can do that too. Just FYI from Quellious.

can confirm these are a very regular drop off the geonid's in crystal caverns

Okay, I've been mining the stores in Thurgadin for spells on the Luclin server. I have come across a TON of these things in the shops.
Up until now, I had no idea what they were for, but I do now.

Spent a long time hunting Ry'gorr orcs in CC since they fixed the faction bug. They do drop off of em, not all that common nor all that rare. Camped for about 2-3 hours and got about 5 of em give or take. By the way, the positive faction hits you get for frostone is minor. Have yet to go from dubious to apprehensive.
A group of 3 of us camped just outside FrostStone (Ry'Gorr orcs) and almost every other orc had one of these on them. I'd say in about an hour we had about 5 or so total.

I can confirm that after hunting the Geonids in CC for about 3 hours, about 9 - 10 of these dropped for us in that short time frame. However, I have not camped them enough to say if that is just luck or not... or to judge the commonality of the drop.

I can confirm that these drop off the Geo's pretty common. I hunted the Geo's for about 5 hrs one evening and got 6 of them. So i would say they are pretty common there. If you spend an hour you should get one or two of them easly..
f im not msitaken i think geos drop this not ry gors kileld a good many ry gors an not seen one
I was in killing orcs for the "Bottle of Karsin Acid" that drops frequently (when you don't want it).
I killed about 40 orcs before I got bored and one did drop (probably off a miner, which is who I was focusing on).

Rygorr orcs in Crystal Caverns do drop these. They are more like uncommon I'd say. Kill about a dozen and you'll probably see one. I didn't know what they were for and sold a few to the dwarf merchants in the Coldain town in CC. So if you don't feel like killing orcs, or think you are having bad luck, try to buy them in the town.
Was farming velium to stock up on Thurg Gate potion ingridients and killed about 10-15miners 6 velium things dropped and 2 of these gems... so they are pretty common drop from th miners in caverns...
