ok i just got this bow and put it on my lvl 9 ranger and it is really good it only has a damage of 4 but it's fast enogh that i do as much or more damage with this bow as i did with my raincaller the stats aren'y great yes but it still is a really nice bow for low lvl's as well as high one's
I love this bow.. The Delay is way 2 cool I dont have endless quiver or even a fleeting quiver.. I have a tailored quiver and with normal 2dam arrows I am hittin constintly in the 30's.. the delay is this hit button for range.. wait till u shoot hit button for range that quick its insane.. I got it for 900pp nice upgrade from the raincaller IMO... got it mainly for stats anyways I lvl 2 fast to solo right now..
The basic reason for stats being lower for lower levels makes for a good idea...nothing worse than a level one player able to take out level 20 mobs because they have been jacked up buy uber gear.
Thats why making items weaker for lower levels is a perfect system to balance power in the game play.
It all depends on your view point. Some people have played the high end game already and want to experience new classes. Personaly, there is no benefit for me killing rats and bats and progressing all over again. Been there done that. There is nothing left to learn other than finding out how your class works to achieve the kill or benefit the group. If you have played EQ to level 60+ you know what I am talking about. You will play a twink, I guarantee it.
You will never get a 100% concensus on "The Best" this or that because races and classes have different stats to start and when you put bonus allocations and stats from other equipment you are not comparing apples to apples. So thank you all for your OPINIONS as they are a great source of information, but please, you <15 (years old)crowd give yourselves away with your bonehead retorts slamming others for their comments or VI for not catering to your particular race, class, diety. (not directed to the authors of the posts in this thread, I was irked by some other stuff I read and have now regained my composure.....end of rant)
Now on to the graduated stats thing. Not everyone can be twinked, or can afford to buy stuff and questing at lower levels is dangerous, so if you get a weapon that has adjusted stats for your level, so what? Unless you already have something better that allows you to bank the item, use it. Oh and guess what, as you get higher levels, the stats go up! My 24 Ranger has Gloves and a weapon that I don't get the full benefit of their stats yet, so I am working on levelling so I do. The creators have to assume that as a new character, you want to develop that character, not just kill super-boss MOBs today as a Ranger, tomorrow as a Wizard and so on without experiencing the class/race, and it also helps keep people spread out across zones a little more (anyone ever NOT lag when entering the Bazaar?).
My 2cp worth Actursis Nebes Protector of the Pine 24th Trail
Umbral Planes, eh? I'll actually have to try that Elysian camp ... during peak hours so's I got a chance at a XP rez, of course.
I rather like this bow, as I've indicated even before getting it. Players without Endless Quiver don't like how it rips thru ammo reserves, understandably ... but this range weapon suits me just fine. Now that I got a Balance Bow, I want that Ykesha Bow next ... no pleasing some people. :)
Finally managed to get Endless Quiver + Archery Mastery 3. For when I want to do " one shot / one kill " attacks against greenies or " ooh-aah " assaults in group, I arm the Thunderbolt. But for " root-shoot " soloing, I arm the True Bow of Balance. This range weapon makes a great "combat" bow if ammo is not a concern.
Doing some crude haste calcs (with just Swifty + Fleeting) ...
==> True Bow becomes > " 15 dam / 12 del " ==> BFT becomes >>>>>> " 30 dam / 22 del "
... the BFT comes out ahead (with the True Bow perhaps closing the gap with more applications of the damage bonus). But me like to see that quick refresh of the range attack, plus those many non-melee damage numbers flash by. With the True Bow, I can wack on the button like a spastic monkey on crack ... great fun ^_^
So far, I kill things in Justice with the True Bow like Gaolers and ghostly prisoners. The more efficient soloing necros / SKs there kill 3 Gaolers/ghosts before I kill one though. But that's ok ... just being a ranger able to solo things other than animals for a change makes me happy.
bah, crappy bow or not, i need it to skillup. this is like the silver swiftblade of bows. with it i could probably cut the time needed to max out my archery in half just as my old swiftblade did for my 2hs. now if only i could get my hands on one.
Would make a really nice solo bow. Many rangers on Bertoxx head to Umbral Plains,at the elysian camp area. They root and shoot, meaning this bow, with the low delay would be pretty awesome, especially if you had endless quiver and some archery mastery. This bow definitly has some uses.
A better bow can be gotten in Seb as far as dmg dly plus it doesn't have the ****** Level restriction. Pimp bows are avalible to many melee classes so they can easily be contested in any raid/group. Do they expect to smooth things over handing rangers this PoS? Hopefully it is somehow quest related for a real bow, if not VI are bigger retards then they have let on.
I haven't looked at this specifically for a bow, but on all other weapons that I have seen only the damage decreases when below the recommended level. Given that this would still make a nice twink item just for the delay.
A bow does not have to be your main bow to have value. I use the Blessed Faydark Thunderbolt, which overall is better than this one. However, I would love to get this bow. It would be awesome for practicing archery because of the delay. It has 7 ac, which would be nice in situations where I was using my bow some (thus no idol or similar item equipped) but not much. It's a nice fire resist piece. I could see it coming in handy in several ways.
for a 55 plus ranger the ratio sucks for trueshot discipline however it is all ranger which is an improvement. I personall would have liked to have seen level 46 plus
With the reccomended level of 50 attached to this bow rangers below level 30 might be more interested in purchaing/questing the items for a raincaller ( a bit tough solo, but raincallers sell for about 1,000pp on our server Drinal)
As the young ranger increases in age though the stats will increase along with his or her level, making this a wise purchase, especially if you seem to be a fast leveler. The fast damage delay ratio makes it a dream to work on skill gain and to quickly redraw your bow when you miss the mob altogether. Personally I think it is a fine bow for any ranger pre 60 who does not have access to NTOV / Doom / ST equivalents, Especially for us Karana rangers :-) All in all I am pleased to see the wonderful equipment that is dropping off of the new PoP expansion
People 55+ (rough cutoff) tend to forget that while the number of levels is small, the difference between a level 60 and a level 50 is HUGE. Also, many people have a few crappier pieces even at 60 (or higher ;)
I am sure there are lots of people who would find this bow to be a significant upgrade, particularily in the 50-54 crowd, but many higher levels as well.
Everyone keeps comparing new things to the things high levels use..."This bow isn't as good as ....." or "This bow isn't good for a ....."
Has anyone ever thought that maybe bows like this are put into the game so that higher level rangers could ...... dont look now ...."GIVE" them to younger rangers as presents. With all the hokey stuff VI has done in the past i wouldn't put it past them to put bows that are great, but just not up to par with the level needed to get it, in the game so that people can work on thier "giving" skill.
The damage isn't very good, but the delay is excellent. A Ranger with this bow, Endless Quiver, Fleeting Quiver and haste could root/DoT a critter then pump it full of 10 damage arrows so fast it would make your head swim. Not a great bow, but would be better in the hands of a good ranger. Would like to watch one of those battles.
if lower lvls buy( and baced on the stats i am guessing it would be bought by some one rather low) the stats would be much weaker making it even crappier for lower lvl so that kidna kills that idea. =P
Compared to the many bows availible to a ranger at 50 and beyond, this bow is lacking some greatness. Nice range though=P BUT, considering it is NOT no drop, I can see many low 50 rangers buying these if they decide not to quest better. The stats arent too bad for range either.
