Worthless? Not a chance. If you do not have all of your spells, this is one way to get some of them for free. Also, if you have all of the spells, you can still turn them in and sell the spells right back to the NPC you got them from for cash. I love to get these while hunting.

My two-box plus mercs crew killed about 100 stormriders in Torden, the Bastion of Thunder last night.

10 Spectral Parchments dropped. My 61 shammy did the turn ins, she received:

2x Focus of Soul (level 62)
Malicious Decay (63)
Talisman of the Tribunal (62)
Greater Immobilize (62)
Tears of Saryn (63)
2 x Ancestral Guard (62)
Agility of the Wrulan (61)

Great haul!

Most of the spells you list come from Ethereal Parchment turn-ins, although Malicious Decay & Tears of Saryrn are definitely Spectral turn-in. Is it possble you were getting both Specs and Ethereals in BoT CY? I acutally thought the stormriders up there only dropped Ethereals, but can't be certain.

After Fighting 7 Hours in BoT on My Shaman I Have Discovered that The Spectral Parchment Drops are WAY TOO Common, I Didn't get one drop in 7 hours, and a Necro I was grouped with only got 2 drops in 13 hours (In HoH). These should be Ultra Rare!

I thought these were like uber rare cause I never saw them. Then last night a couple of High LVL Uber Friends <THANKS CAM DEF AND BIL> took me to BoT to the courtyards. The stormriders were easier to kill and respawned fast. In about a 3 hour camp we had about 8 or so SP. I noticed that the stormriders and the other storm bug thingy isnt on the loot table. But they do drop them. Go have a whirl.

Do Spectrals actually drop off the planar larva? That's a pretty easy mob for such a valuable drop...any confirmation?

They drop all the time in BoT, maybe try a differnt (easier) zone. That is of course if you're not solo'n.
farming
# Dec 03 2004 at 6:11 PM Rating: Excellent
Not sure if farming is truly the word for hunting glyphs or spectral parchments but it can be done. You more or less farm the mobs and hope for a drop. Never had a glyph drop for me but Ethreal and spectral parchments but in 3 hour night of Kiting The guards in the dragon room of HOH, with a necro, I could get on average 2 parchments a night. The only snag was that some of the mobs couldn't be slowed. They hit for 500+ and stun so make sure you have someone that can heal ya if your kiting, or ya go down fast. Not sure if this helps anyone but figure I should atleast share an experience with fellow eq players. SO clerics get yourself a Necro or shammy and Kite kill kite kill kite kill.

Berserkers can use them in the sense that they can turn them in for spells. It's not much use to a berseker, as they can not use the spells. The positive side to this is that the spell you get is not No-drop and can be given to a caster friend/guildie. The class of the spell you get will be determined by who you turn the parchment in to in PoK. If you give it to the cleric NPC, you will get a cleric spell of the appropriate level for your parchment.

I carry dots all the time, and if I don't know the cleric and they virtue me I offer them a dot if in group and a dot and donation if not in group. In some ways, I help the casters as much as anything: My main is a bard, and I am the guy pulling in a lot of cases. I can lull most of the stuff I fight so that single pulls are the rule. I think the casters want my pulling to be boring so that the melee classes can hold the mob's aggro.

And my songs help with their mana.

I need plat as much as the next person. I want every nice piece of gear for every one of my toons. But we also need clerics, so we have to share.

Incidentally, we went for Grummus last night on Terra Thule - and we had about a dozen full groups, and everyone got the flag and AA. We had parchments on Grummus as advertised above. We also had parchments off the spiders on approach.

We had zero deaths on the final fight, although some died on the approach because of LD's by healers. These guys are essential - when you don't have them you notice right away - I was tapped once and down 50% - and healed right away so I could continue fighting, but then I was dotted. That brought up another interesting issue: curing disease after the fight (and other fights). I did the Quests in Gunthak with my bard so that I can cure disease and remove curses and I would rotate through with my Aria as I saw people continuing to lose HP after the fights. Took 4-6 pulses to cure these dots.

By the time I got to the last sick people in my group they might have lost 30% of total points.

I was playing my raid resist song (purifying chorus), and it, and the shaman resist spell, and the DMF, and the little resist gear I have (the boots from the flawless hynid hide quest) had my disease within a couple points of maxed. Everyone who Melee'd Grummus still got the major disease dot. The clerics could have cured it, but I think they needed to save their mana and attention for heals and all it cost me was time.
RE: spell cost
# Apr 05 2004 at 11:28 AM Rating: Decent
If (& only if) the spell requires a Peridot, or an even more expensive gem, as a reagent, then I see nothing wrong with asking for some sort of help on that cost.

But I'm sure that some sort of compensation deal could be worked out with the group that wouldn't require everyone paying 9 plat every time the spell is cast. Otherwise, maybe just the MT gets the buffs that require peridots, in order to conserve reagents.

Just remember: the mere fact that someone is a 49th+ buffer class, doesn't mean he/she has unlimited plats to spend on *you*.
RE: spell cost
# Jun 18 2004 at 3:43 PM Rating: Default
So with your reasoning, I am sure you must pay for every dot that a necro uses to cast their spectre pets or EE for spells or a mage everytime he uses a star ruby to cast banishment......A group is there to assist each other and most of the time it is merely mana for what pp goes into buffs I am sure you are well rewarded in group by equip drops or loot. If you feel slighted then I suggest you solo.....good luck to you as with each expansion grouping becomes more fundemental.

In total agreement with all that Maswov has had to say in that matter basically i dont see how you would ever get a group charging for buffs...... that would be like one thing that I witnessed a friend of mine was grouped with me and some of his guildies and my guildies we was just out getting some exp and my friend the MT died well his guildie charged him to Rez him I told him to get out of here and I got one of my guildies to Rez him needless to say that he is not in that guild anymore.. Basically if you are charging your group for buffs in my opinion you dont belong in a group........but my dad always said Opinions are like ******** everyone has one some just stink more than others =P

of course people don't have unlimited plat to spend on others or themselves for that matter. I can understand sitting in PoK or whatever and whoreing buffs, but in your group that you are in i think is reddiculous to charge them. Magicians use a reagent to make pets they never charge their group for that, yeah its not directly cast on you but if you had a mage in your group without a pet i'm sure you would be like WTF is he doing. Then think of the whole group aspect of grouping, you are all working together for for a common goal. Suppose you are in and adventure everyone wants to win at the least to get points for spells, gear, augs... now lets say your MT doesn't buy your buff from you you will end up healing him more often using more mana possibly requiring med breaks incresing the chance of not completing in time.
RE: spell cost
# Apr 11 2004 at 10:43 AM Rating: Decent
Ahh, not to belabor the point but this is where your guild should help you out, either by making an effort to help you get your spells through raids or from your spell bank.

I just hit 63 ans if I had to buy all my druid spell in the bazaar it would cost around 100K, instead it will maybe cost me 20k if I can not get any of these parchments.

My 2 coppers worth. Too many tanks are loot hogs. Clerics like other casters need to sit and med with little chance to loot. Tanks get huffy if you suggest anything and made excuses. Had some say they will share but disappear after done grouping. Stopped playing cleric except for guild. Why should I spend 60+ pp to buff if I almost never get any loot? Known 2 others who stopped playing their clerics for the same reason. Had a do not group list. Now that all I lose is mana I am back in the game.

Drops
# Aug 24 2003 at 4:41 AM Rating: Decent
Spec parchments are not nearly as rare and the Glyphed Runed Word is. (turn in for lvl 65 spells)

As for their need, I do agree that they are needed for the higher end PoP zones and not necessary for the old "Original" zones. But they do make things much easier to take down with these spells.

Case in point. I watched 12 lvl 65's take down Klandicar in Western Wastes without a single loss in the fight. Was the coolest thing I had seen in the 2 1/2 years of playing EQ.

call me crazy but...
# Jul 21 2003 at 12:08 AM Rating: Good
is it just me or is it insanely freacking hard to get these? unless i have some ubah friends who have a spot open in a BoT/HoH grind group (which i havent had n e luck with so far...) i would have to dish out the thousands of plat (which i dont have) to buy all of my spells... IMO VI made these drops waaay to friggin hard to get and should have put them on common mobs in PoV/PoS but make them RARE!!! drops... im sorry, just dont understand the reasoning why VI hasnt tweaked it a lil seeing how most ppl get away with selling the spells at high costs, and still having a lot of demand...
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 28 2003 at 9:39 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I hate to agree with VI (as you call them) but the reason that Spectral Parchment's and Rune's dont drop off lower end mobs in PoP is because those higher end spells are actually not necessary for the rest of Norrath. Those spells are specifically designed for the high end game that is PoP.
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 31 2003 at 4:06 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Someone get this man a drink. I also think spectrals are as rare as they are because it makes the satisfaction better when you actually loot one. I still feel excited when I get a spectral even though I have all my spells.

They seem to be dropping off of the regular giants in BoT right now. We had one drop off of a Vann Militis and another one off of a Jord Militis. So they are not dropping off of just the minibosses, named and tower bosses. I lost both rolls but earlier in another group we got a spectral off of a Protector of Marr in HoH, so they aren't just dropping in the crypt area, we pulled it from the courtyard.

MQing these things
# Jul 01 2003 at 8:44 AM Rating: Decent
On my server, Druzzil the level 63 and 64 spells can be pretty dear (15K or more) for some of the better ones, like the 63 pet spell, Command of Tunare or PotN, or realtively inexpensive (2K) for some of the more situational spells like E'Ci's Frosty Breath. MQ's run 4-5K and it seems that MQing would be the way to go unless the MQer decides to scam ya... like say he turns in the scroll and gets back PotN, but hands you a copy of the less desireable E'Ci's Frosty Breath. Then he sells the PotN in the bazaar for 15K. He "clears" a total of 17K on the deal (4K for the MQ minus 2K value for the spell he gave you added to the 15K he gets for PotN). Pretty sweet deal. Am I being paranoid? I dontmind taking a chance and if I pay 4K and legitamately end up getting a 2K spell.. well those are the breaks.. but is there any way to tell what the MQer actually received on your turnin?

You MIGHT be being paranoid...

When I MQ SPs, I never know what class I'm going to get when the person sends me a tell. Having a crappy SP spell for every class would take a lot of SPs or a lot of money, and really wouldn't be worth it.

If you really want to debunk your MQer, tell them to meet you in the library ASAP and don't mention your class until you group with them in the library. I'm not sure if you can see the quest dialogue when they turn in their SP though, so it's best to get an MQ from someone that's in a respected guild, and if you feel like they've jilted you, rat them out. Good guilds take the behavior of their members pretty seriously.

I can't speak for what the game desigers frown on, but if ya wanted to make something non-MQable, easy fix would be to make the reward no drop and all items would need to be turned in at once.

This isn't MQing anyway.

MQ is used for cases where the final item is no drop. Technically, the person with the SP is just doing the quest, and selling the other person the rights to the random outcome.

It would be awesome if SoE thought about things like that and added a dialogue so people will know exactly what the return is for giving something to an npc. Not just for parchments but for any item. Anyone grouped with you being able to see the reward you get for giving something to an npc would be a very nice small addition to eq.

Then again it might be asking too much such as having exact % haste shown on haste items and updated spell descriptions for something such as Acumen since the stamina regen part of it was taken out oh and updating the grobb stone in pok to say Gukta instead.

Yes there's an NPC for each spell using class and for bard songs. The quest NPC is usually the vendor that sells the new PoP spells that are available for purchase.

It is turned in in the PoK library to certain NPCs to receive level 63-64 spells.
