Goblin Soothsayer in Warslik's still drops this, confirmed tonight. I killed a fair pile of them before seeing it though... so you might be in for a camp if hunting it.

Yeah, camped grachnist for shrunken skull earrings and it took me about 900 goblins and I saw about a dozen tambourines. I wouldn't say all that rare but far from common.

Still much much less painful than doing the nostrolo tambourine quest for a similar drum.

Greetings,
You don't see this item around too much these days, at least not on FV server. I wanted one of these for my bazaar Bard so I went over to Frontier Mts and camped out in front of Droga. THe first Goblin Plaguebringer that I killed dropped the tambourine for me. I thought I would mention this since the plaguebringer in FM is not listed here as a mob that drops it.

Best wishes -

This is now used in a quest: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=17966, I'm not sure if it was before too. I was just checking to see if I got a good deal selling mine, I just sold it for 150pp in the Bazaar.

Dessimus, he may not have bought it from a merchant even though that's what merchants usually sell them for. I have a low lv bard on fv and I've seen higher level people come to the lower level zones and sell some pretty decent stuff to low level people who have just noobie armor on. I wonder if it was the same person I bought mine for 9gp from? A few lv50's come to west commons and other noobie areas every few weeks and sells stuff to people with new characters. I also bought a crystalline spider fang from them, for 9pp, 7gp and a goranga spiked club from them for 5pp, 8gp, 4sp. So it is posible he bought it from a player for 9gp. Learn all the facts b4 you flame.

Same as Nostrolo's
# Apr 28 2003 at 3:24 PM Rating: Default
As someone mentioned earlier, the Tambourine of Rituals has the exact same modifier as Nostrolo's Tambourine.

It's too bad, really. Maybe someone decided that the Nostrolo Tambourine was too difficult or something. I always thought of that as a class-defining quest/reward. If you saw a bard with a tambourine then you knew he had put some real time and effort into getting a unique bit of equipment.

With the Tambourine of Rituals in the game (and selling for 50pp or less on Terris-Thule) there's no reason at all to do the Nostrolo's Tambourine quest. Just kill a goblin or pony up at the bazaar instead.

I just got one for 50p in bazaar.Had no idea if it was any good or not but for 50p hard to go wrong.I will come back and edit this post after I test it a few times running the river bank in WK using a stopwatch. Not going to bother with the above percentages since those have been tested and posted. This will be vs MM drums only. Also I will be using num lock to from same point so there will be no variation in angle.Any lag spikes will be an abort on the test.Back with results later....Ok I've done my testing and the results(did 5 times each with same results each time with lvl 28 bard)Tambourine posted a 4min3sec mark the MM drums 4min8secs.A difference of 2pct.To put that in perspective thats like driving 61.2 miles an hour vs 60.But hey it's got stats as well.So there you have it ToR is 2pct better then MMBD.And yes that's rounded up 1.87 pct better for you purists :)

Nostrolo's Replaced?
# Feb 08 2003 at 12:12 AM Rating: Default
I just did some looking on Lucy http://lucy.fnord.net/ and found that Nostrolo's Tambourine and this one have the same modifier.

First, Nostrolo's - http://lucy.fnord.net/item.html?id=12940

Next, Tambourine of Rituals - http://lucy.fnord.net/item.html?id=28074

Can this be true? If it is, will save me alot of trouble tryin to get the last 2 coins for Nostrolo's.
Goblin Blightcaller

I found one off of a Goblin Blightcaller in the Frontier Mountains. Specifically, I it was a Blightcaller which was near some stones outside the Temple of Dragor but I think any Blightcaller has a chance of dropping it.

Ok, I just got a few more 'low-level' instruments... time for more testing :D Just trying to help other bards out, if they're looking at the bazaar wondering which lowbie drum to buy.

27 Bard (coincidentally, same as last time... different bard, different server, though)

All the Rhythms line:
Sung: +18 resists
Hand Drum: +32 resists
Combine Hand Drum: +36 resists
Mistmoore Battle Drums: +37 resists
Tambourine of Rituals: +39 resists

Chant Of Battle:
Sung: +11str +11dex +2ac
Hand Drum: +19str +19dex +5ac
Combine Hand Drum: +22str +22dex +6ac
Mistmoore Battle Drums: +23str +23dex +6ac
Tambourine of Rituals: +24str +24dex +7ac

Selo's: I really don't think there's an accurate way to test this, especially with 3 drums so close... virtually impossible to run the exact same line 3 times in a row (no angle variance), with the same lag, and so on.

Yes, I'm aware of Reed's spreadsheet, but he hasn't updated it for the Tambourine yet last I saw ;) Also, his modifiers are listed as single decimal, so two drums with the 'same' modifier might actually be slightly different. That, and I don't have Excel, and the free Excel Viewer doesn't let you manipulate the spreadsheet ;)

So, amazingly, the Tambourine of Rituals (estimated level 13 to attain) actually gives more bonus to songs than Mistmoore Battle Drums (estimated level 32 to attain). I'm not sure whether or not the relative ease of getting a Tambourine will keep the price down or not, as it's currently still sold for less than Mistmoores (on Vazaelle, at least)... but once people realize how nice of a drum it is (with a couple minor stats to boot), prices might shoot up.

Then comes the farming of the non-lore instrument... oh well, there's plenty of goblins in Warslik's Woods to go around :P And maybe the horrible tree lag will still keep people away...

Next up: testing it against Walrus Skin/Stretched Skin/Selo's Drums, as soon as I'm not poor.

Actually the realization that this is better than MM battle drums will more than likely lower the value of the MM drums, not raise the value of this. Main reason why that is? This is a lot more common than MM battle drums and drops off a lot lower level mob. It would be silly to get the MM drums or buy them when this is so much easier and cheaper to get, and is better to boot.

RE: More testing
# Dec 20 2002 at 6:13 PM Rating: Good
I can confirm that the tambourine of rituals is MARGINALLY better than the MM battle drum/ stretched skin drum (which adds same boosts as MM drum + AC bonus):

Using Chant of Battle (lv 1 song)
base stats (no drum, no song): str 110, dex 111
no drum, with song: str 125 dex 126
hand drum: str 136 dex 137
stretched skin drum: str 141 dex 142
tambourine of rituals: str 142 dex 143

Using Elemental Rhythms (lv 9 song)
base resists: magic 42 fire 47 cold 37
song only: mag 68 fire 73 cold 63
hand drum: mag 88 fire 93 cold 83
stretched skin drum: mag 96 fire 101 cold 91
tambourine of rituals: mag 99 fire 104 cold 94

I could appreciate the difference more with my resists than my stat boosts. I'd definitely recommend poor bards to grab a tambourine of rituals over a mistmoore or stretched skin drum as they are much easier to attain and afford. I have seen the tambourine going for 5-10 pp in the bazaar on Drinal. However, I like the AC on the stretched skin drum so I'll probably hang on to it. There won't be a noticeable increase until I upgrade to the walrus skin drum or better when I'm not poor anymore.

As stated in the "Testing" post, I can confirm that it does give a bonus to my percussion songs. I only tested with CoB, but I saw results similar to those posted. Just thought I would add this since there are some posts saying that it does nothing.

Decided to do some testing, as I just got this today.

27 Bard, 140 Percussion skill
Storebought Drum was purchased at Freeport's Bard Guild

Chant Of Battle:
Sung: +11str +11dex +2ac
Storebought Drum: +19 str +19dex +5ac
Tambourine of Rituals: +24str +24dex +7ac

Selo's Accelerando:
Didn't test, wasn't about to run back & forth across a large zone & time it... maybe another day. I did seem to be moving faster with the Tambourine, but maybe that's all mental.

Elemental Rhythms:
Sung: +18MR +18FR +18CR
Storebought Drum: +32MR +32FR +32CR
Tambourine of Rituals: +39MR +39FR +39CR

Purifying Rhythms:
Sung: +18MR +18PR +18DR
Storebought Drum: +32MR +32PR +32DR
Tambourine of Rituals: +39MR +39PR +39DR

Guardian Rhythms:
Sung: +18MR
Storebought Drum: +32MR
Tambourine of Rituals: +39MR

I have no idea how to calculate the percentages, though, somebody able to help me out with this?
litte better

this is a small amount better then a hand drum, tested it today with 18 bard using guardian rhythms, handrum boosted resists by 25, tambourine by 30.

Really for quest only
# Nov 15 2002 at 2:24 PM Rating: Default
This item is pretty worthless for practical bard uses. It was recently added to the game for really only one reason. A PoP quest. The one listed above. The only problem with the quest is that one of the components required is the stretched skin drum that is a rare drop from Grun No Eyes (Rare spawn) in Hollowshade Moor. Those drums add bonuses to songs that make them much more desirable than the end result of the quest. I don't see too many people doing the quest unless they change the required item from HS to something else.

Not if you're a low level bard... not any worse than a hand drum, with a tiny amount of stats.

Also, it should be pointed out that the quest that requires these instruments IS NOT a bard quest, really. End result is more useful for enchanters. The enchanter would have no use for the stretched skin drum, but would for the end result of the quest.
5k?!

For some odd reason this instrument is going for 5k to 7k on my server. Can't see why, unless I'm missing something... it has stats, but the stats aren't thatr great, and as far as I know this doesn't boost percussion songs any better than a hand drum (does it?) It is a rare drop, but off of relatively low level mobs. Seeing as a MM battle drum goes for LESS than 5k, I think this thing is badly overpriced. Unless there's something about it any of you know that I don't. Is there? I've noticed nobody entering prices that high here.

Edit: Seems it was just a fluke, one person who was either trying to rip me off or was actually delusional enough to believe it was worth 5k. That person's argument being:
It's extroidinarly rare. (WRONG, it is extremely common. Got two in WW in the space of ten minutes!)
It gives as much boost to percussion songs as Selo's Drums (what was she smoking, and can I have some?! A drum that drops of a level 13 goblin soothsayer is not going to have anywhere near the boost a drum that drops off of LORD NAGAFEN does. This instrument, by the way, does not boost songs any better than a storebought hand drum.) plus has stats (wow, 2 agi 2cha? Those stats aren't worth 5k. For 5k I can get an entire suit of ornate chain, and still have enough left over for MM battle drums, which will give me more charisma and a bigger percussion boost than this thing.)

In short, this thing is worth nowhere near 5k. I don't even think it's worth 500. At most, 50, and once people come to their senses, I believe the price will drop this low.

2nd edit: Either they added a larger percussion bonus to this, or I simply didn't notice before. It in fact has a LARGER percussion bonus than MM battledrums. And is easier to get, and far more common...

Few things:

1) These do give a bonus to bard songs, above normal hand drums.
2) The bonus is better than MM drums.
3) Dropped once over the course of 5 hours while going for Grachnist's earring, which means clearing out the entire goblin fort over & over... maybe I just got unlucky?
4) She was smoking a very potent form of Indonesian crack cocaine, imported mostly by the Chinese Mafia into San Francisco and regularly distributed through Cracker Jacks boxes. ;)

They must have added the bonus since it first dropped, as it used to not have one. Or maybe just nobody noticed. Still not worth anywhere near 5k though.

The ironic thing is even though this has more of a bonus to percussion songs than MM battledrums, it's a lot more common and easier to get, so it's selling for a lot less than MM battledrums. Because of this, severeal people assume the MM battledrums must be better...

Once people realize the bonus this gives, it will make it more desirable. However, I think instead of that realization causing this to sell for more, it will simply make MM drums sell for less. Eventually nobody will ever bother to buy the MM drums.

And you were just unlucky. This item is extroidinarily common, I've had it drop off the first casting goblin I killed, dropped again 10 minutes later, and once more about 15 minutes after that. You just had bad luck of the draw.
