Been awhile since i checked up on this thing. I got it the first day PoP came out in PoDisease off of one of the trash mobs. One of the Malarians i believe. I already had my epic and an LiB at the time so this weapon wasn't to much use to me. So i sold it for 9k to some bard decked out in SS armor =p Now i wish i would have kept it since ive never seen or heard or another droping.
You're not quite right in your wording to say Singing Amplification there...
For a *Worn* mod (think worn as in worn haste opposed to clicky haste, no buff icon)
Epic: Singing Short Sword - 1.8 mod Crowned Staff of Anguish - 2.0 mod (from Keeper of Sorrows in PoTorment) Abalone Engraved Tribal Mask - 2.0 mod (From PoWater... Hydrotha iirc, can't remember, didn't get one yet)
For a clicky Singing mod, there are two: Voice of the Serpent - 1.6 mod or +.6 to your worn (Ssra, Disciple Yelwinz) Shadowsong Cloak - 1.9 mod or +.9 to your worn mod (AR, Shei)
Note that the effect on VotS is different from the Cloak but they don't stack. There is also our song Amplification which is sold in Katta. That is it I believe for singing mods.
** Sorry this is about singing under a wind item, at least it's a reply!

Instruments have absolutely no effect on mez. The only thing that this weapon would be useful for is to do group invis without searching for a flute.
But then, since you have to go through a bag to find this weapon anyway........
Bards have asked for a way to become unglued from the crappy ratio of their epic. Now we have another weapon with 1/10 the utility of the epic, but the same ratio. Blech.
Aridar, Falamil is actually incorrect in saying that a wind instrument has no effect on mez, but only to a point. What the wind bonus does on our mez songs is to increase the MR debuff portion of the song, thus making it easier to >keep< a mob mezzed.
However, by the time you are likely to receive this particular item you will almost certainly be using Dreams of Ayonae or a higher mez song. All of our mez songs after SoT (the dreams basically) do not have this MR debuff component and so the statement is also correct if taken from this standpoint.
I say that last sentence with one caveat. The Dream songs are all fairly new and as such there has been very little true testing done with them. As such it is not impossible that VI have altered the way they work to make a wind instrument more useful for these. This is unlikely, but I feel it necessary to mention so as not to provide false information.
That said, this mace seems nice to throw in the offhand at those times you are mainhanding the epic to get a proc, as long as you don't have one of the many weapons around that are better. I doubt it will see a great deal of use at other times.
Zelandakh has some good points, however there is one thing he is forgetting. For those of us without our epic this is an invaluable tool. Mez is unusual in that once you target a mob and start playing the song, you can then choose a new target, and when mez recycles, it will continue to mez your origninal mob. What this means is you can mez an add and then retarget and start meleeing a different mob (situational I know, more than one mob to mez and this point becomes moot). On top of that however it also negates the neccesity of having to swap out your weapons for a wind instrument.
Having said that, I am still trying to lay my hands on one of these. Does anyone know for sure certain what mob it drops off of? Grummus maybe? or just random malarians? At the rate I'm going I will end up finishing my epic before I find one of these.

Thanks for clarifying that Zel :) I never knew why my mez's seemed to work better when I armed my flute but now that I know it's related to MR it makes perfect sense. Thanks!
Okay, I am truly impressed with this weapon for bards! This has got to be an essential weapon for any bard without their epic. Having this in your offhand will allow you to have your lute of the howler in the mainhand so you can now MEZ if you are crowd control, and get the wind instrument bonus, while having your lute in the mainhand to play cantana of replenishment and get the stringed bonus! Finally verant gives bards an easier way to dual wield instruments!
Yes. I use mana all the time. A little more wouldn't hurt as I do run out sometimes.
Call me crazy all you want, but I don't like to play conventional. I'm always grouped with my friends a cleric, a mage and a wizard. With this combination I'm the tank. I take the hits and charm any adds. My cleric usually can keep me alive and we hardly ever have any extended downtimes for medding healing. We usually kill the mobs and I'm running off again to pull right away. Leveling may be a bit slower, but we're up to level 48 now, almost 49. Charming the adds all the time uses my mana up pretty quick, and if I can get more I wouldn't mind, but I'm not hunting for items with it.
I would love this weapon, and the mana on it would be great. I just doubt I'll be seeing it anytime soon.
An excellent strategy there Mr. Unconventional. I'm sorry to say that it's not going to get you very far in the planes once you reach 50+. Unfortunatly, and I have had to find this out for myself, bards make lousy tanks in the planes :) Man those mobs hit like Mack trucks! You may have to change your strategy some or find a warrior/pally/SK friend to assist you guys. But as for your role up till now you have my admiration. You go beyond the call of duty to show that bards are truly masters of unconventional strategy.
