I wanted this bow so set about clearing everything in the zone, and ultimately got one (so it still drops). Here's what I learned:

- a rust covered model dropped it for me (not currently listed as a dropper)
- All three droppers (including a corroded prototype and a malfunctioning system) can be up at once, but there can only be a max of one of each named up at any one time. In other words you should kill each named as soon as you can so that it doesn't block the fresh one spawning.
- There are a large number of PHers, perhaps every mob outside of the factory.
- They spawn in the place of every mob type and every spawn location without noticeable descrimination
- They always seem to drop 1 wearable loot, along with the other zonewide trash
- I had drop: 1 ulak, 1 bow, 5 torques and 5 caps
Nice bow

Bought it in the Bazaar on Starpyre for 200pp. Wasnt even looking for a bow, just checking out trader goods, saw it, and thought distance was good, then I saw the price. Couldnt resist picking this bow up for so cheap.
cool and cheap

got it for 150 pp at bazaar yesterday. Couldnt believe the cheapness of the item, considering the ration is very nice, the stats are sweet, and the 200 range.
How is it it is so cheap ? common drop of PoI ?
anyway, at 31 it is a 17 40 bow, plus the 3 poison dmg. max crit is 62 with 1 dmg arrows

another mob

Poison modifier

It is resistable damage. If the mob fails the resist check, the bow is a 31 damage bow for that melee round. For typical experience grind mobs, most of the resistable damage types (magic, poison, fire, cold, and disease) typically act just like (or real close to) an increase in the weapon base damage, however, against highly resistant mobs, these weapons become less effective.

So essentially, this bow is better than a 28/40 bow WITHOUT the poison damage, but it is LESS desirable than a straight 31 damage/40 delay bow, since 3 of the damage is resistable.

I just picked this up the other day for 880p. I'd have to say that it was well worth it. The range on this bow is amazing! It comes in most handy when trying to get first agro against Hill Giants in Rathe Mountains. There's usually a bunch of level 60s pulling away never letting anyone who can actually get xp from the giants. Now when I see a giant in the distance I just fire that arrow and he comes running to me.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 18 2003 at 10:42 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This is such a awesome bow! I got one for free on the Torvonnilous Server... There was a TWINKED and I mean TWINKED lvl 24 rogue I sold a pair of Iksar Scaled Gloves to, and he was looking at my gear.. all i had was a Rain Caller.. (bow) and he said is this better then yours? and I said yeah way better and he was like oh.. its yours...
compare?

I recently bought a compound steel bow to upgrade my trueshot. The big reason was the +10 DEX & the bow was going for 500pp compared to others on TP 1-3kpp. Well its 28 dmg dly 40 & was wondering if anyone has compared this with the nightmare. The nightmare goes for quite a bit more 4-7kpp I've seen & the dmg 30 dly 36 is an improvement, i'd gaining also in other stats. Has anyone that has tested both noticed a moderate+ difference in the dmg out of the nightmare over the compound steal. I'd totally be sold on the nightmare I think if that INT stat (for SK's I guess) was wis or has a wis stat of 10 on it.

well any feedback would be welcome.

oh come on, it's not that crap. it's an upgrade to a light velium bow, and a clear upgrade to compound shadewood. which i had been using before i picked this up for 500p(<3 ranger only items).

i'd say it's roughly on par with the weighty polearm, another frequent tier 1 planar drop.

i'm sure that if you've just come out of high-end luclin, or even high-end velious, this bow will be worthless. but for those of us working our way up, it's a good, cheap upgrade. a squeak below the bft (dmg-wise).
And it is droppable...

On a good note this thing drops and can be sold. On a bad note, this may make some of the hand made stuff look a little weaker...

It's a nice bow no doubt, but making some of the player made bows look a little weaker?!? Not likely. A Blessed Faydark Thunderbolt strikes me a far susperior bow not to mention the Karana based bows that people should be able to make on this expansion. All and all it is a nice tradeable bow that doesn't require you to kill some dragon, god, Doomshade, etc...

Yeah but if you're not on Tunare diety then those bows are of no use.

What kind of price range would you put this item at?
RE: jeebus
# Oct 22 2002 at 6:54 PM Rating: Decent
You can bow kite with 0 agro with this thing. You actually will stand out of agro range, and they will never even see you. I know this sounds ate up but a guildie of mine has done it with frost giants a few times. Best part of all, you still get exp and can loot the bodies if you can get to em.

They nerfed that in the patch where manaburn was nerfed

That wasn't a nerf, that was an obvious fix to an obvious problem. Being able to stand 350 feet away from a mob and shoot it with an arrow, and the mob not bothering to chase after you even though there was absolutely nothing hindering it's movement, was a blatantly obvious bug in the AI.

I think this was because in the old days, the longest range attack in the game was probably a bolt spell, which has 300 range, so they just decided to cap the attack agro to 300, and failed to increase it with the introduction of attacks with longer range.

As far as Manaburn goes, no single group of players (read as: 6 characters) should be able to simply waltz up to a dragon or god and make it drop dead in far less than 20 seconds. Another obvious fix to an obvious problem.

I really wish that people would stop throwing the word "nerf" around with reckless abandon. A lot of these changes are valid, logical fixes to obvious flaws.

Amen! It's called Game Balance folks. Just because Sony shot down cheese doesn't mean they are being mean or nasty or are out to get you. They are simply tring to balance out the game. And they don't have an easy job, believe me.
