The Cape
# Oct 24 2002 at 2:17 PM Rating: Decent
This cape is actually better overall. Who cares if the Renaldok Cape has 20 more mana, it doesnt make a big difference. In the upper levels, mana isnt everything. This wirespun cape has a less resists, but has 60hp. The 60hp in general make this cape an overall better choice.

Renaldok Cape
+9 AC
+8 Agi
+8 Int
+12 vsPos
+12 vsDis
+80 Mana
+1.00 Wt

As a 56th Wizard, I wont pass up 60hp for 20mana, especially on an item that has Int, Mana, and HP

But that is just me

As a 56 wizard, you would be a fool to pass up mana for hit points. What do you need hit points for? If it comes that close for you, you're already in trouble anyway if you're fighting mobs like Avatar of War and you get aggroed, which you shouldn't. There is an intelligence cap of 255 up to level 60, but there is NOT a mana cap. Mana for a wizard = higher DPS. As a necro, I try to balance between the two and will always look for hp items.

If a wizard, such as you say, believes he is better off choosing mana over hp in such an extreme ratio as 3hp for 1mp - or greater - he may as way buy a second account and PL a cleric since his *** is going to need rez's so much.

Lets put that simple 60hp vs 20mp on the larger scale, where we're dealing with multiple slots to make the same stupid mistake. Assuming a use of 15 item slots, your dealing with a loss of 900 hit points for 300 mana. So now we have a wizard with around 1.5k hp versus one with 2.5k hp ( unbuffed ) simply to gain the additional mana pool for 1 extra DD!?

Not only is this 1.5k hp wizard going to get wasted in a couple seconds flat - even on standard exp mobs - but he is going to waste the 2000 mana he had remaining when he threw in that one nuke too many. Not to mention the med time while recovering from res effects. All this risk so you have the potential for one extra nuke in your mana pool? But wait, it only gets worse. :)

Quote: "Mana for a wizard = higher DPS"

Negative my friend. In reality, mana regeneration ( and of course spell haste & improved damage ) is the only thing that will affect ones true DPS. The only thing that additional mana pool will do is give you one extra nuke to get OOM. So, yes, in a sense this will make for higher DPS when you USE that extra mana pool. But think outside the box! After that extra DD has been cast, then what? You have to regenerate that mana back! And unless your medding all the way back to FM immediately afterwards, having that larger mana pool will never again add to your DPS. ( Until the next time you hit FM, that is - which should be never in an exp situation. )

So you've opted to pass on 900 hit point's for the addition of 300 mana and now:

1) your beginning to think wizard's have obtained a new, and involuntary ability 'evacuate: grave yard'.

2) when this 'new ability' takes affect, you waste any mana you had remaining before hand, plus you have to med back your entire mana pool after your res.

3) the good cleric's are somehow managing to keep your *** afloat, but wasting 100 mana for 200 less hit points of healing *per cast* in order to do so. Not to mention gaining additional aggro on themselves in the process, creating the potential to waste even more mana healing themselves afterwards.

4) BUT!!! you get an extra nuke, one time. yippie!

This may be true for exp groups. It isn't true for raids, though. At raids, you want all the mana, which translates into all the nuking power, you can get. Especially if you are going to be manaburning.

Ok, this is missing most stats and has some less HP and Mana, but you have to notice the amount of Poison and Disease resist gear flowing out. I bet its going to be very important soon.
ok
