Can someone please explain this item to me? Look at the picture.. Effect: Smite (combat).... which would make it a proc... but it has no damage or delay, so it can't be used as a weapon. Hopefully this has been changed since this picture was taken.

To follow up this old post, the Smite effect was later removed from Orb of the River's Essence. I can't find any patch notes about it though, so no explanation.

I believe wearing the item gives you the ability to proc smite with any weapon you are wielding. There are spells and items that can give you proc abilities and this would fall under the same category. That said I have not personally verified the proc on this item but as soon as my enchanter hits 46 (currently 45) I will report with my findings.
Lameriae the Alluring

{edited now that mob is in db}

I believe she can spawn in place of any of the potameid bewilders, she has definitely spawned in different locations for me. All the notes that apply for bewilders apply for her, she is simply higher level. She has always conned at least dark blue to me at 65 so that should put her above level 46.

The other nodrop item with stats I have seen drop from her is Lameriae's Amulet, a weakish enchanter neck piece - sorry no stats I can recall offhand.

She dropped both pieces once when I killed her.

She also drops a nodrop jade item used to make one of the druid quest armors.

Look again folks...Smite (Combat) would mean that you have to hit something with it. It's not a bad item, but shouldn't you be DoTing, Mezzing, Slowing or Medding instead of trying to melee with the tanks? I don't know many pure casters that will get up in the frey to melle at Lvl 46.
nice

Very nice for encs

I would definitely put this in my Enchanters ******** first you get the requisite INT/CHA along with a little AC, HP, and saves. Then you also get the effect. Granted it's not doing a lot of dmg, but you can use it without wasting mana (which encs are going to want to save for buffs, mezzes, etc.). In effect, it lets encs at least feel like they are doing something to down a mob rather than just playing traffic cop =). I will get one of these =)

BTW: Anyone know what this drops off?

#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 18 2002 at 6:12 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Believe it or not ... an item does not have to be in use (persay) to PROC (has to be equiped) so if a weapon is equiped and u r in combat .. u do damage and the proc is secondary.

My guess would be the Queen pot-head herself or that Myrephe the Pure or something like that. Myrephe seems too be an ULTRA rare 1 day timer spawn that appears to be in the south end of the River area (generally).

She drops some nice stuff including a descent 1HS no drop weapon weildable by melee classes. Also a nice +5 wiz bracelet. don't remember the names of them though.. my guess is its myre the pure. But don't quote me on it

No drop?
# Oct 17 2002 at 8:49 PM Rating: Decent
By the name of it and the fact that it is No Drop, is it not at least possible that this can be used in a quest of some sort? AND equippable in the ranged slot, that's nice to know.

Proc?
# Oct 17 2002 at 5:48 PM Rating: Decent
Procs smite but has no dmg/dly? Hmmm
RE: Proc?
# Oct 18 2002 at 12:27 PM Rating: Decent
It is very possible that his item is like several spell lines some classes get. It is equipped and adds the proc to whatever weapon you are currently weilding...

That would explain the proc without the damage/delay information.

Hmmm, a procing weapon and this would mean the chance for two procs...nice.

It is right clickable for casters they don't need Dmg Del. Ans Smite at 46 is about as useful as Sow potions for bards
RE: Proc?
# Oct 17 2002 at 8:06 PM Rating: Decent
The screen shot says (combat).. wouldn't that mean it's not right-clickable but only procs when engaged in battle. Does that mean you have to be hitting a mob (with out dmg/dly that'd be a tad hard aye) for it to go off eventually or only need attack on?

In order for a combat effect to work, you have to make an attempt to strike a target. Hit or miss, you have the same chance to proc that weapon. However, on an item with *no* dmg/dly, that item becomes a held item, no longer a weapon. Since you would never actually take a swing with this item, it can't proc.
RE: Proc?
# Oct 19 2002 at 9:45 AM Rating: Good
It can proc... don't have one myself, but I have procced with items way outside the combat range... the game checks to make sure your in range of the mob before it makes an attack check... so this can proc, most likely using your h2h delay as the timer for a proc check.

Yeah but is it an instant cast? Also it's a very nice range item.
