Definately worth it
# Jun 04 2002 at 4:50 PM Rating: Decent
Look, these guantlets cast a 110 point dot, 40% snare spell - this spell stacks with the SK disease and fire line of dots, which means that an SK can toss on heat blood (170 point dot) and heart flutter (144 point dot/debuff combo) and have all three riding the target mob at once - that's 426 points of damage, plus debuff plus snare effect for only two thirds of the normal cost of casting those.

Plus you free up a spell slot.

Plus you aren't paying any mana for the spell.

Plus I'm wearing silver chitten hand wraps right now so the AC of these things is moot to me.

So the only question is - WHEN DO THEY PROC?
RE: Definately worth it

They have a casting time.... they don;t proc, you right-click on them.

Oh and the DoT is 11, not 110

i belive 45, same as other lvl 2 class specific like singing steel cobalt tolans etc
RE: nice ac but...
# May 31 2002 at 8:37 PM Rating: Good
Personally, I think these are worth going out and looking for. Yeah, if you're MT'ing you won't be able to cast darkness, but if you're soloing or playing snarer, you can't really complain. 5sec cast time sucks, but it frees up a slot for my other ac tap or another dot.

For those who complain of the ac when you compare them to cobalt, you gotta realize we're not warriors, we're any BUT warriors. Facts are, we're hybrids, thus we're suppose to be about 1/2 warrior 1/2 necro, not that we actually are.

Question for all you warriors out there, if you could fear kite, even though you don't have mana, would you be willing to? I bet almost every warrior would say yes.

Druid Stacking
# Apr 30 2002 at 8:58 PM Rating: Decent
Druids can stack one 51 and up dot with one 50 and below dot of the same kind (ie drifting death and winged death, or the now famous clicky dot from es arms/vel quest bracer and winged death) Also the epic will stack with all of these, so a druid could stack epic, winged death, drifting death, the lvl 53 fire dot and the lvl 29 fire dot all at the same time.

Or they could just root and click the epic, bracer dot, and winged death, its almost as fast and you got fm all the time. Druids can keel almost anything with time and space, long as its snarable (read: epic - able).

Oh yeah this is a be gaunts thread. These gaunts never ever drop, I can't even begin to remember how many cons of sathir we kill. As in all things Kunark, sk got the shaft compared to other classes in terms of ac. We are closer to rangers on ac than war, thats kind of ridiculous.

As of this post my second pair of these has dropped in a three hour period camping the Left CY room in Karnors Castle.

Stacking
# Feb 18 2002 at 5:38 PM Rating: Decent
To clarify, this does not stack with other darkness spells. The ES Vambraces (Drones of Doom) stack with Winged Death because Winged Death stacks with ANY of the other DOT's druids get, not because the ES Vambraces are right click.
WHat level can it be used?
# Oct 15 2001 at 11:09 AM Rating: Decent
What level can these be used at?
At least I know a level 1 can wear them but when can he cast with them?
RE: WHat level can it be used?
# Feb 15 2002 at 6:15 PM Rating: Excellent
Like all Kunark uber armor (cobalt, blood ember, singing steel etc.) the effects become clickable at 45
Have these...
# Sep 27 2001 at 1:44 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, im a 53 Sk and these are nice for a few reason... First you have a MANALESS darkness, wich means in big fights when you go OOM you can still get a dark off...Second it gives you a free spell to fill...The casting time might be a bit long but if you use them right, you have a great item on your hands
what is the Graphic when equiped?
# Jun 05 2001 at 3:43 PM Rating: Decent
what does Blood Ember look like say on a Ogre SK ?
RE: what is the Graphic when equiped?
# Jul 15 2001 at 6:30 PM Rating: Good
Extremely stupid, considering Ogres and Trolls have the worst looking armor in the game. It looks like you're wearing a bunch of rags at lvl 50.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 13 2001 at 9:58 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I dont know what you guys are thinking about 'nice ac' and such--16 ac is low. Look at the Cobalt gloves at 25 ac (yes i know they're for warriors, but 9 ac is a VERY big difference/loss over being an SK rather than the traditional warrior) heck our old darkforge has close AC as this does, and some SVM--IMHO not worth the time of 'camping' nor the plat to buy (not sayin if i stumbled onto them i wouldn't use them, but i wouldn't in any way go LOOKING for them)
RE: Poor AC =(
# Sep 17 2001 at 8:41 AM Rating: Excellent
I want you to think about one thing. You camplain about not having the ac, but you are missing the bigger picture. this combined with the boots = manaless fear kiting. I would trade a little ac for the chance to kite a mob, without using mana, and not get hit. Just something to think about.
RE: Poor AC =(
# May 16 2001 at 10:03 PM Rating: Excellent
All SK armor has lower AC than the equivalent warrior armor. Lower AC is the trade off for the ability to cast spells.
Gauntlets
# Apr 27 2001 at 7:09 AM Rating: Default
These drop off the construct of sathir in the hand room, tough as hell mob 51+.
Casting time is a bit long as its 1.5 times the casting time of the normal SK spell
As for moaning about the effect being low, its a FREE snare pull. You cant use it during combat but boy is it awesome for pulling, i was running round Karnors tower and pulling like a madman. Didnt stop pulling but used no mana :)

The high ac is awesome cos for an Sk i think this is the best stat going.

Construct IS evil, and can pop in any of the "cursed hand" or "construct" spawn points in the hand room. We held the room for about 3 hours last night; the first time we got one of these was on the break-in and half our group ended up nekked and outside (got a curate by accident and he CH'd the construct). Second time we had properly broken the room and he wasn't as much of a problem -- which is when he dropped the gaunts.

Seemed a little resistant to magic, but not as bad as the undead jailors. If you can slow him and just melee him down he won't present a problem.

stackable
# Apr 21 2001 at 7:17 AM Rating: Default
I do believe it would be stackable with other darkness because elder spiritist vambraces have drones of doom (level 34 drood dot) and i can stack that and winged death (level 54 drood dot)
Drops from what?
# Apr 16 2001 at 8:02 PM Rating: Default
Anyone know exactly what these drop from?
casting time?
# Mar 01 2001 at 3:35 AM Rating: Default
What is the casting time like? Is it the same as the spell or significantly longer? Considering buying some and want to know if they are worth it: althought the AC upgrade from umbral is nice.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 24 2001 at 5:47 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) what the hell is verant thinking putting a ****** level 22 sk dot on there? who would use it? sk's get better ones later on, and im not even sure they're stackable! ac is nice but engulfing darkness. sheesh what a croc.

Um... ok, no offense but do you actually play a SK? I'm level 51 and I still keep engulfing darkness memmed... dooming takes too much mana, the casting time is horrible, and it fizzles too much to be worth it... engulfing is much much better when you're just using it for snare/pulling. I'm not sure about cascading since I don't have it yet but I think the casting time on that is pretty bad also. The only time i ever get out dooming is when I'm fear kiting and need more dmg/snare/duration.

Of course, if the casting time on these is much longer then the casting time of the actual spell, the best use of it will be to pull, not while fighting.

I am not sure, but I belive the cast on these is uninteruptable as long as you dont move. so the mob can beat all it wants, and it will still go off. I would say that makes up for the 1.5 times cast time.
RE: nice ac but...
# Feb 15 2002 at 6:52 PM Rating: Good
cast on them IS interruptable as with all cast time clicky things.
RE: nice ac but...
# Feb 26 2001 at 3:29 AM Rating: Decent
I do believe that these are right click, not a proc. Also the reason you would use it, NO mana cost....also allows you to mem a different spell and have more options.
Not all races.....
