part 1 questions
# Jun 18 2001 at 5:45 PM Rating: Excellent
Greetings,

As a recently ordained Vicar of Tunare I am looking ahead towrds the day I can weild one of these items. I started looking over the quests for the pieces and have even camped (unsucessfully) the goby that live in the water under the tower in lake Rathe. It is here that my question arises....

Several of my guildmates are rangers and druids. I read where the crown is given to Shmendr Lavawalker to get the "spirit of flame" to spawn. I know i am to loot the piece that drops from the spirit, but can the croawn be given by a "non-cleric"? I ask this because I don't have track, nor the time to camp (even if i did i wouldn't) some 11 hour(or greater) spawn killing ph's after ph's. I don't have EB, and do not wield a wep anymore. I don't have track to see if he has spawned, nor harmony to split the gobs out of the tower, and can't (don't want to) fight all three at once. While I can see that Verant doesn't want it to be easy to get, they sure handicap a non water breathing, non tracking, lousy swimming cleric class by putting the first in a series of long camps underwater.

So, my question is, can the crown be looted by others and given to Shmendrik to start the quest??
Is it No drop?
Any advice?

If you want to single pull the PH (or Lord Begurgle for that matter) bind on the island above the cave and then go down and pull the PH and then run. when you get far away from the tower you gate. The guy you hit will warp to you the rest will go back to their spawn point.

If you are going to camp this guy you can sit on the windowsill without aggroing anyone (actually try to sitt a little back cuz sometimes I aggroed the goblin on the left if I move in too close).

Definitely loot the damaged crown before you start this camp. Schmendrick is easy to beat up and it is a LOT easier to beat him up than to wait for the Lord to spawn.
RE: part 1 questions
# Jan 07 2002 at 12:13 PM Rating: Decent
If you cant camp it you must not want it very bad. As a cleric who spent hours camping the Lord underwater with the help of mages and druids for breathing its really annoying to hear its too much trouble for you. Whats the point of letting everyone do it for you? I cant even imagine why anyone would want to help someone who felt it was too much trouble to do it themselves.

Man, I'm tempted to be rude on this one. A lot of people who play this game have jobs and lives, so we don't have infinite time available to sit and wait for something to pop. I couldn't camp something for 11 hours, either, no matter how bad I might want it.

The crown can be given to shemendrik by anyone. Most of this quest can be done that way, sadly. the blood soaked plasmatic priest robe is tradeable (the last part needed to get the orb of frozen water.) but to answer your question; yes, your ranger friend could camp the goblin for you, call you when he spawns, and turn it in, and you can loot the spirit. my advice would be to get the damaged crown off the spirit before he hands it in however. Natasha KS the spirit from me when I did this for the first time.

Admitted, I'm not at the rank of uber-cleric just yet, and I have some time to go before I'll be able to get this. To me though, this looks VERY worth it! As it is at level 42, I do quite a bit of rezzing be it on raids or just on request, and all the med time between means I can hardly afford to do anything else. A mana-free xp rez seems well worth it IMHO. Sure, I would like it if they gave some added benefit to the rez, such as no rez effects or casters coming back with full mana, but as it is, I'll gladly take it and like it!

reponse to Heh, A water sprinkler is a awesome weapon used in the middle ages, a mace with a gun barrel at the end, some would be rigged with powder so when you hit with it the head would in sense explode or shoot a projectile, very awesome but not used much, i don't think they worked too well, im glad verant did a little research so its not just another mace

The morning star was derived from the Swiss Morgenstern (literally: "morning star"), and was used during the 16th and 17th centuries, especially in England. The weapon had the perverse nickname of "Holy Water Sprinkler" due to the spikes puncturing the skin and making the victim bleed.

The morning star was popular from the Middle Ages to the late 17th century, though its use continued among peasants and poor urban militiamen and gangs up to the 19th century.

However, the epic graphic looks like a Spiked Ball and Chain, a Flail. A one handed flail is normally used by horsemen aswell, as the footman's Flail was designed for two hands, and greater damage.

It still looks damn cool, and the name is quite appropriate, if not absolutely accurate.

The morning star was was already used during Antiquity, in Europe, Africa and Asia. Heck, there were even non-metallic versions of it used throughout the pre-colombian Americas.

In English, it was called a morning star; in German (not in, er, 'Swiss', puhlease!), it was a morgenstern, other places had different names for it. The Romans called it 'stella mortis', which litterally means 'star of death' in Latin.

As for the nickname, it wasn't derived from the victims profuse bleeding but rather from the spraying of blood by the wielder madly swinging the bloodied weapon during battle, much like a priest using an aspergillum (latin for 'sprinkler') in church. The nickname was coined during the Crusades (each one a Holy War, let's not forget) which first gave rise to the whole notion of fighting priests (clerics), who also served as healers.

And that's why its name was given to the epic weapon of the EQ cleric, a priest class.

Class dismissed :)

Not sure where you got your info, but i'd recheck it, a Holy water sprinkler(as the historic weapon is properly called) is nothing more than a Morning Star. It is also called a holy water sprinkler because it would make blood flow as water sprinkled by an aspergillum (the actual holy water sprinkler used by a Catholic priest).

On a slightly less historical note, when I saw the name the first thing that popped into my mind was catholic church ceremonies where the priest blessed the crowd by shaking a baton, capped with a metal sieve and filled with holy water at them. They were called water sprinklers as well. In a fantasy setting, I think a slightly reinforced version of this would be devastating on ones opponent, whacking them with the magical weapon and washing them in the holy water of one's particular deity in one swing. One of the neater named, not to mention useful, epics. Not the most showy though. It is the *only* flail I've ever seen in the game, though, and that part is kinda neat.

Yes, the rezz is important especially when it comes to raids when you want/need to get whole groups back up and running but the other stats are awesome. Think of it.. +25 WIS AND 100 Mana Points. Forget the atk/dly. Just those stats alone frees you up to drop some of the other +WIS armor you're wearing for more ac or, since I play PvP, the all important resist gear.

Reviv is always being asked for instead of rez. Just go to a place where 45+s hang. They pay aobut 200pp for a reviv, that can equal over 1k for 1 group. Also with a necro that has equipment on them to summon peoples corpse this makes a great raid aid. About 25people die on a raid. Necro summons corpse and your reviv.

Triggered, 96% experience ressurect. Same as 56 level spell. Lame as clerics get 90% exp res at 49 and this spell at 56. Feel sorry for you Clerics as its just a mana(time) saver. Just my oppinion. Nice stats though.

Other casters epic effects are similar. A spell they already have but slightly better. Cleric is the same as what they can cast. And the mana savings is immediate for those as you recast them constantly (Enchanter epic haste effect, Mage no cost pet etc.), with Clerics it really isn't. Have to ask yourself how often do you res people? And can't you just take the time to cast the actual spell you have vs this? Of course it's better to use the weapon but still kinda lame becasue you already have the spell.

What bothers me is there are great items in game that are about a 10th of the hassle to get I'd rather have (same for other epics.) Although epics look kewl.

I'd prefer to see a group complete heal or something and an extended recast time to not make it so that you can keep casting it and never die. For balancing of course. Would like to hear other ideas as well, anything better then a spell clerics get at level 56.

If I was a Cleric I'd be up in arms. Once again, just my oppinion.
One epic cleric's opinion
# Aug 17 2003 at 12:10 PM Rating: Decent
Epic Cleric here Smiley: cool I have to say, this is THE most important piece of equipment I own. I can battle-rez people and waste NO mana doing it, leaving my mana to heal the person rezzed, or that MT that is going down fast, or the enchanter that is currently mezzing 5-10 mobs, getting 3 resists, and is being hit on while the other mobs are being taken down. Then ya gotta rebuff the rezzed person, etc. All this takes tons of mana. so, on a raid, this is THE most invaluable piece of equipment in the raid. because, what happens when the cleric goes OOM and people need heals? with no back-up healer, you're all dead, or evacced if ya have someone that can. with a good back up healer, the cleric gets to med up enough mana to heal some more. All depends on how ya look at it Smiley: wink2

The road to aquiring this is a long hard one, but so very worth it in the end, and I'm glad I have mine!

Since my esteemed colleagues have pointed out most of the awesome benefits of the click stick, I'll remind you of one other reason why people would actually spend the time to do this.

You go walking down a line of clerics, see one in gold armor with a hammer, see one in light blue armor with a mace, and then you come to one in purple armor with a little sparkly thing, as a first thing that comes to mind is *drool*.

For a lot of people, it's about how it looks. I personally intend to get this just so that i can walk into a zone where there's a ton of people in one place and see how many people say "hot damn i wish i had that..."

First off, if it had no dly, then the clerics wouldint mind it too much, besides, there was an item with inf effect complete heal before... Monk only allbeit. treant fists. The first 2 weeks a lvl 20 monk had it, he immediately went to Lguk and lvled to 60 in about a week, then verant killed it, so i dont think theyre gonna do that again. But thats my 2cp.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 29 2001 at 4:26 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Whoever posted this is freaking nuts. have you ever thaught that with this item, a cleric on a raid becomes about 100% more important?! thats no mana resses meaning he still has mana for heals while your getting your dumbass back from dieng!! youve never played a cleric have you? go on many raids? probably NO to both. how mutch does the 90 res cost for clerics, 400mana or more? THATS ALOT OF MANA DIP. i hate when IDIOTS like you put down items that make the class awsome.

Just an FYI coming from the proud owner of a 50 cleric of Innoruuk, the lvl 49 rez (90% for those that may not know) costs quite a bit more than 400 mana...somewhere in the neightborhood of 700, if memory serves me correctly. BUT, in keeping with the flaming of the freakish few who don't see the use of this weapon, i feel inclined to join in on the free for all. i recently spent some time in OT (death capital of Norrath on Karana) whoring myself out for cash to commence on raising my smithing skill. if i'd had this item, i'd have been able to rez so many more people in far less time (provided the effect can be triggered at 50 of course...i think i may have read that it procs at 51...not 100% sure) anywho, a mana free 96% xp rez is EXTREMELY valuable and i pity the poor idiots who think otherwise...

When u do the Epic Quest for your class epic weapon, u have to do alot of difficult and heavy things to do and it takes a long time. And at the end u get a weapon with a clickable spell effect which u already have and nothing special on it. I expected from Verant that the epic weapon would have a spell effect on it which u can never get with your normal spells. That would be really special and worth to take all the pain of the epic quest. But those weapon is really lame!

At least some advise to all the others who think that weapon is really usefull after a failed Raid to save time. I dont have to epic weapon right now. I am lvl 56 cleric and I did a lot of CRs after a failed Raid with 30 or more poeple. If u are the only cleric who keept alive, u start res an ench, then a bard, get with them in one group, then start res the other clerics, u get really quick your mana back with song and clarity 2 that u nearly can do nonstop ressing! If all the other clerics help ressing, u will finished it between 15 and 30 min for 30 or more poeple! If all clerics would have their epic u will save may 5 or 10 min. So u really dont save much time! For me its a lame epic quest weapon too!
There is one reason why i try to get it cause u can use it very good during the raid in battle/fight. When there is a big raid against some really big mob and u know that u cant kill it without anyone dies, then u have to res during the battle all poeple who died really quick, give them one little HP/AC buff from your donals vambracer, they pick up their weapon und some armor real quick and go back to mob and go on fighting. I think thats a lame way to kill a big mob but it works, and sometimes its the only way how u can manage it.

Stay save and take care all the time! :o)

I think you`ll change your opinion after a failed raid where the clerics dont have epics and it takes 4 hours to rez up to 9 grps ;)
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 05 2001 at 11:46 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) obviously you haven't seen what the mage epic really is. it is a spell that you use to summon an orb with. you then click the orb to create a pet. now as far as mana free pet? i don't see it. you use the mana to summon the orb, you use the orb to summon the pet, therefore you use mana to summon the pet. it is just an indirect use of the mana. i am working on my epic weapon now for my mage. or should i say my epic spell. i just need to find a nice time that i am really lucky and get my staff of elemental mastery: earth. then i will worry about my staff of elemental mastery: water.

30 people die, one cleric managed to camp.

without clicker, easily looking at 40 minutes to an hour of sitting there rezzing everyone.

with clicker: 5 minutes and everyones back, ready for another attempt.

This is the best epic in the game by far.

# Mar 23 2001 at 1:50 PM Rating: Excellent
im guessing from your post that you have NEVER been on a raid. this is the most valuable epic in the game, as it saves so much time on CR on any raid because clerics no longer have to sit and med to rez everyone. even if you just have one in a guild it is awesome. all other epics can wait, if you're in a guild, this is the one you need first.
RE: My Oppinion

At the level that you get this item, a clerics main job is to rez. This item is a huge benefit, and ll uber guilds will make sure that all their clerics have this thing. If you are doing a big raid, there can often be 20-30 rezzes to perform all at once, and alot of times, you may need to immediately rez some tanks so they can quickly rejoin the battle. This, in my opinion, makes this one of the most useful epic items in the game. Of course, as far as how it personally benefits the cleric? Not that much really....but as clerics you dont solo anyway, a clerics EQ life is always all about how he can most efficiently help his group/guild...
