Considered a "rare" zonewide drop in Chardok... how do we feel about that rating in 2016?

-need a modern item window pic of this item

-would appreciate a pic of someone wielding it

Dropped off a revived sarnak today
# Sep 17 2005 at 3:57 AM Rating: Decent
Got one of these off of a revived sarnak near the entrance. Almost destroyed it thinking it was a staff of suffering. Nice little staff ... used it right a way to get the proc then bagged it.

Just hit 50 with my Beastlord and it start to proc for me. Makes it a lot easier to solo with the added AC and Hitpoints. The magic resistance is nice as well for raids where we rarely have a shaman. Shaman buffs will over-write this buff ... esp the talisman series (which I get one at 53).

Weapon is not as fast as I would like but the dmg it does is very nice. Will probably sell it when I hit level 53 and get a chance to test the talisman spell I get.

Hope this helps someone
these are awesome!

I have lvl 35 monk who loves these staves. no lvl requirement. great dps. these out parse the Jade Mace (9/18 ratio) easily, at least 50% more damage overall. Adamantite Club in primary and Stave od Shielding in Secondary and your good to go!

Gimme HP anyday, don't care where it came from lol. If I have no shammy then I whip it out for procage then bag it. Tonight I retired my Adamante Club and put it in my bag next to my Stave of Shielding. I use it still when I need to stun CH casting mobs. Want a nice weapon save up 510 adventure points and get this: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=24149

Fast forward 4 levels for me and this is what I found out, Stave of shielding loses it usefulness when you have a shammy in the group who can Focus of Seven on you. Several other buffs also overwrite it. Oddly, one time I was using the stave with a FoS type buff on me and the proc actually overrode it causing me to lose the str and dex gains from the shammy buff. So now I bag it until I am in group without a shaman. My weapons of choice have changed. Stave only for proc, then I put it away and use Copper Hammer of Striking in primary and Adamante Club in secondary. Something gives me warm fuzzies when they chain proc(both stun) and mobs fall down go BOOM! Price of Stave of Shielding on Tholuxe Paells ranges from 2k-3k. When I see it for under 2k my mule picks it up for resale :) Wouldn't want prices to totally bottom out you know).

Best low lvl monk weaps
# Aug 23 2003 at 4:40 PM Rating: Decent
Personally, I think this is one of the best droppable weapons for monks, especially at lower levels.

These staves are not lore, so you can use 2 of them and they sell (on Tholuxe Paells) for about 2500pp each. As soon as I get the money, I'm gonna get 2 for my 40 monk.

At level 40, with a maxed DW skill my monk's offhand swings 73% of the time (dw skill + level divided by 400 is the formula for offhand %).

That means 17 X .73 = 12.41 (offhand) + 17 (mainhand) is a damage of 29.41.

So two of these at lvl 40 is 29.41dmg/28 delay.

There is no droppable 2hb that I can buy at this level that comes close to that.

And none of the droppable 1 hand weaps comes close either. Most have high lvl requirements and or reccomended levels. And the one or two h2h weaps that come close are way expensive.

People talk about Wu's and bladed knuckles as being better b/c of the proc, but I haven't found that to be true. These have a 56% better ratio than Wu's sticks. So a Wu stick would have to proc so often that it does an additional 56% damage with procs for it to equal the damage of these staves. For me at least, my Wu stick doesn't proc nearly that much. Same thing w/ bladed knuckles, which have a crappy 25hp dd proc anyway.

On Tholuxe Paells server I use Blackbone fists(no drop from Umbral Plains) in my primary and Adamantite Club in my secondary. I used the Stave of Shielding only to get the proc then bag it. Monks are a fun class to play, especially if you already have a high level main who can be your sugar daddy for drops and equip because let's face it - we are great at fast damage and spell interruption and the best pullers in the game, but we got shaft in the HP department.

Proc Level?
# Apr 23 2003 at 4:07 AM Rating: Decent
Does anyone know when this weapon will start to proc? From the description, it looks like it starts at 24, but is not yet doing it for my level 26 Beastlord =(
RE: Proc Level?
# May 07 2003 at 1:45 PM Rating: Decent
Since the post that stated the proc level is a little farther down I'll put another one up here to help. It procs at 50. Have a long wait for you to get it to proc on your BST, but at least the ratio is pretty darn good for your lvl =).

The description is for the lvl needed for those int caster to be able to cast the spell.
HP?
# Apr 08 2003 at 9:15 PM Rating: Decent
All I keep reading is "Whats the big deal with 75hp?" Let me just say that every hp counts. If you have a failed FD or are just in a close fight, 75hp can make all the difference. Do I use this as a weapon? NO. Do I use it till the proc and bag it? YES its got a good ac and hp gain at any lvl..and as a Monk, I scrounge for all the AC and HP I can find.
Shame about the proc level

Bought one for my 30 Monk a few days ago for 1k and it does nice damage, but it's a pain having to wait until level 50 for the proc; it's not as though 75hps is likely to make a huge difference to anyone at that level, whereas it would be pretty nice at 30.
second 1hb
# Nov 27 2002 at 12:47 PM Rating: Decent
What woudl be a good 1hb to accompany this? i already have a goranga club, but since its prim only, i prolly wont use it if i get this. Any thoughts?
RE: second 1hb
# Nov 28 2002 at 4:51 PM Rating: Good
I seen some using a Wu stick. prim = 7/18 secondary = 17/18. and Wu's stick proc for 75DD spell fairly often. If U got more cash a Silverfang Club 10/17 +75HP 1hb would kick ***.

A nice weapon for around 2.5k is a Guard Captain's Mallet It is a 11/20 with 45 hp and some more stats. It can hit for 45 for my 42 monk.
proc lvl and a question

The proc lvl is 50... and yes, should be any class at that lvl.

Question:
Does the proc add the hitpoints... such as, if the proc hits 4 times during fight, will you gain a total of 4x the hitpoints added... understanding that your total hp only go up the ammount of proc... are hp added per proc to your current health?

I will prob check this... but thought to get info.

Thanks,

According to lucy.fnord.net, the effect won't heal you, it will just increase maximum number of hitpoints you can possibly have. Here's the info:
Slot Description
1: Increase Max Hitpoints by 69 (L24) to 75 (L30)
2: Increase AC by 16 (L24) to 18 (L28)
6: Increase Magic Resist by 14

As opposed to a spell like Skin Like Diamond, which will increase the maximum number of hitpoints and heal those hitpoints:
Slot Description
1: Increase AC by 13
2: Increase Max Hitpoints by 178 (L39) to 200 (L50)
3: Increase HP when cast by 178 (L39) to 200 (L50)

Hope that answers your question.

SoS vs. Club of the Ice Ocean
# Nov 05 2002 at 2:30 PM Rating: Decent
Okay, here's something highly debatable that I'm looking for some good input on. I bought a Club of the Ice Ocean awhile back not thinking to look for the "Recommended Lvl" thing. Well, needles to say, this thing sat in the bank til my beastlord recently made 51. Now that I'm 51, I'm debating whether to stay with my 2 Stave's of Shielding or to just keep one SoS and use the Club of the Ice Ocean instead. SoS's have 17 dmg and 28 dly where this has 14 dmg 27 dly but also proc a whopping 149 DD which can add up in a fight. So if you're uber and know what you're talking about, please let me know if I should stay with my 2 SoS's or go to 1 SoS and 1 Club of the Ice Ocean.

# Nov 16 2002 at 5:33 AM Rating: Decent
They delay is so slow in this that I use it till I proc, then in the bag it goes. I use bare fists and the mallet from Icewell that procs a 150 dd, it's 10 20, forgot the name. I would sell my second SoS and get something better for the bst. One other note, if you have hos/focus up, Major Shielding is overridden, so you lose the benefit of it - hence why use it?

Level 32 Human Monk here. Thanks for the info in the above postings. I scrimped and saved and got one on the Veeshan server for 2500 platinum due to spirit of competition and free enterprise in the bazaar. What I neglected to do was research the item properly. I guess I have 18 levels to wait for the proc. Till then it's a big damage stick which is ok too.

# Oct 04 2002 at 10:35 AM Rating: Good
I was reading through most of the posts and didnt really see much or anything at all about if the proc is stackable with for instance Aego? Because I am in the process of buying my Blood Ember Breastplate and was curious to know if any of you monks knew what this weapon effect could and couldnt stack with. I just hope it stacks with Blessing of Aegolism I just love that spell hehe.

Most drops in Chardok are totally random. This means you can have the Stave by killing any MoB. Bring a well-balanced group and do the entrance, you might have one drop.

That cost to high on Blue
# Aug 06 2002 at 12:59 AM Rating: Decent
on tallons sek normaly sold at 2k-2.5kpp.

I like to be on a PVP server items cost so low :-)

When I see the price on Blue server I lought and be happy to play on tallons. Ex: Fungi on most server 50k and + on my 35K-40k and +
RE: That cost to high on Blue
# Nov 14 2002 at 2:20 PM Rating: Good
Depends on the item, hehe.

Haste items were cheaper on Vallon, than on Cazic. But many other items are much cheaper on blue servers than PvP.. Plus you don't have to hassle with a bunch of "Uber PK" FEF's in these zones and then the item's free :)

So I spend 1K more on my SCHW... I saved 5K on my AC gear, heh
