Is the only difference between this and the pre-nerf version the race tags? That's the only difference I can see. The pre-nerf says ALL, while this one states which races can use it. All the other stats remain the same. If that's the only difference then why was there such an outcry when they changed it? It looks like everyone who could use it before can still use it and it has the same stats and abilities.

There was a very important change between the pre-nerf Circlet of Shadow and this. Aside from what you've already noticed, the original CoS had a cast time of 0.1 seconds, which is near-instant and fast enough that you could cast on the run, I've heard (haven't confirmed it myself, don't have anything with the same cast time).
This one has a 5.0 second cast time, completely eliminating that option and limiting the usefulness to "neat item" instead of "essential piece," since both of the classes that can use it get the exact same spell at a reasonably low level.

Yes you can infact use the pre-nerf CoS while running/mounted. Very useful, not sure wether or not necs/SKs got any instant invis aa or not yet. At least it used to be immensly useful.
Can't say for Necros, I assume they have same AA, but SKs get an AA called Cloak of Shadows, and it is insta cast. Since SKs are a Necro hybrid, I would assume that Necros get a similiar spell. The downside is its a Class AA, and required level 70 to purchase.
I've picked two of these up in the last month or so. I've been able to spawn the goblin bodyguard three times, two of which dropped the circlet. He's spawned in the same place each time, which is in the room where Chief RokGus spawns. As you enter the mines, take a right, then a left to a big circular room. I found that I was able to spawn him by simply clearing the room repeatedly, although I did clear the static spawns in the hallway without seeing him there. Spawn times seemed on the order of 20 mins or so.
No, only Necro and SK can use it even from inventory only. Any other class will get a message that your race, class, or diety can't use it (or something like that)
Just curious, but most items that don't say must equip are usuable from inventory. Is it the same with this? Don't think it is or else every cleric would probably have one.
Was vendor-mining in Shadowhaven in the last few minutes before the patch the other night, and picked up the pre-nerf version on an obscure vendor....563pp....would have been less had I not been so excited that I forgot to put on my charisma gear.
I just sold mine for 95 plat. wished i had looked at it's worth before. Was in need of plat to work on smithing skill though. Vendor has it in northfreeport on Fennin Ro, selling for 569 plat. Why me??
the pre nerfed one is actually called "circlet of shadow" (not plural) its insta cast invis (.1 cast time is the same as insta cast), the nerfed one called "circlet of shadows" and has a 5 sec casting time
this iteam is decent, prenerf is 7k on prexus, and nerfed is about 700 or so, casting time is the same as the spell tho, nerfed one is worthless imo....(funny how all the good sk/nec iteam get nerfed isn't it?)
bought prenerf one tonight on terris ... guy said offer and offered 15k he took it... wouldnt sell for 30k this thing is sweet when teamed with jboots ..
Hehe, if you find anyone selling anything that you may benefit from just ask what their minimum price is, you may save thousands of pp on some items...I bought Circlet of Shadows when i was lev 15 for only 70pp whereas some people may have spent over 1k!!
this item is godly. insta-invis.. very glad i bought mine for 1.35k way before they nerfed it.. esp good for bad pulls... fiegn... wait a few... stand, invis.. bamo, no aggro.. its wonderful... i really hope they make the prenerf no-drop so i am not tempted to sell mine.. its also good for when your invis is about to break when on the 2nd floor of hate, trying to find your way down after a wipe-out :) also... when i bought mine, i was only level 19, i didnt know when it click'd so when i ding'd 20, to my surprise, it worked. getting inst-invis 10 levels before you are supposed to is wonderful :) every true good sk puller should have one.. or any that do CRs alot :) me thinks this is an item that makes SKs the best pullers :) ok.. enought with my rambling... if you have one.. hold on to it.. if you dont.. buy one..
Actually, the best sk pullers don't need an item like this to be awsome pullers .. the pre-nerfs just let any halfass sk seem like and think that they are a good puller, and thats a major reason it was nerfed along with the fact that they were waaaaaaay over farmed (and a cheezy item on PvP). They are nice to have though, but won't make you a better player, only skills and true experiance will do that.
These never improved my pulling ability, not even by a bit .. sold mine for 30k (and i'm still one of the very best pullers around, unlike the guy that bought the pre-nerf... he still sucked)
The nerfed ones are only good for freeing up a spell slot and giving sk twinks invis 10 levels before they should have it (unless that was nerfed aswell)
Perhap you don't understand what we termed 'harnessing the strength of gear'. Maybe to you a good sk can win a fight will a rusty sword if you smart enough.
