The best place for Rockhopper hides is Mons Letailis Mature and adult rockhoppers are abundant
DS Peaks

I have got to say that the best place for pelt hunting is in Dawnshroud Peaks. The cave system in the NorthEast part of the zone is stuffed with those guys! I was hunting Scarlet Desert and Mons Letalis, and after going to this cave I'm probably never going back to either.

And if you're hunting pelts, chances are you're gunna be looking for Acrylia Ore as well. Let me say that this cave must have been made for tradeskillers. If you kill the Rockhopper leader, then Tribals spawn and they carry tons of ore! Want more pelts? Kill the Tribal leader and the Hoppers come back! It's perfect!

easy to find in SD

You can farm tons of these Superb and Flawless hides in Scarlet Desert. The loot table is amazing. Fill a bag in a just a few hours..it's crazy.. but bring some help, sun reavers will aggro, as well as lightcrawlers.

Most mobs in zone are dark blue to me at 52...

I might agree with an slighthy increased drop rate here .. but sure not a full bag within about 4 hours. Why that? Just because of the poor spawn rate, as there is just a small (and fix) amount of rockhoppers apear in this zone in a certain place. So all in all, you have the same chance to fill your bag with the hides you need in DP as well as in ML, as well as in SD. Just take the zone you have a free place to hunt, and hunt any rockhopper on sight. Once you have better days, once you have worse days ...

Either this post was meant in jest or this person was incredibly lucky. Filled a bag in just a few hours? Right.

I've been hunting in SD the last week or so. I've probably killed 150+ Rockhoppers (I don't play a lot but that's a huge number for me.)

I have gotten 3 Flawless, 9 HQ, 7 Superb, 15 MQ, 20 LQ, and too many damaged hides. Many don't carry any loot.

I haven't tried DS to see if the drop rate is better. But don't believe the above post when it says you can 'fill a backpack in a few hours'.

Not true.

lols if you only killed 150+ then how you kill stuff isn't going to give you a clue as to the drop table

do that in one sitting a few hours at a time and you will fill a bag

If you can kill more than 150 rockhoppers 'in a few hours' then I'd like to know what you do to get them to spawn.

I spent many hours in SD and in no way was I able to 'fill a bag'. Sorry you disagree and wish I was on your server so I could watch you do it.
Acrylia bits

Go kill rhinobeetles in Hollowshade Moore for the Acrylia bits. Can't remember if they are rough ore or bits at that point. If they are rough, you might have to make them into bits. My Vah shir warrior needed them for her Class Quest.

which are higher quality/worth more?

the superb pelt or the flawless pelt

On that it really depends. The HQ Hopper hides are for lower grade armor and Hand made backpacks. This is for a deacent set of resist gear leathers. So which is more valuable to you?

The scholar label comes from your post average -- not sure exactly how high it is required to be, but I would guess anywhere over 3.00 as I got one at 3.06

could someone please tell me where or what these superb rockhopper hides drop from... I have been over in hollowshade moor killing rockhoppers for the last 2 days and have notreceived anything higher than a high quality rockhopper hide.
RE: superb hides

They drop off of rockhoppers obviously, but generally, the higher the level of Rockhopper, the higher you chances of getting the hides that are actually worth anything, i.e. HQ - Superb - Flawless.

Mons Letalis and Scarlet Desert have the highest level rockhoppers to my knowledge.

they drop off rockhoppers (!) in dawnshroud peaks.. they're all bunched together in a little cave.. forget the exact location.. but a ranger should be able to track them at the zoneline into netherbian

Go left (East) from the entrance to DS and follow the boundary line around till you get to the cave. If you have the LoY expansion you should also have a map that will show you the caverns on the Eastern side and that's the spot. I have seen Sambata there instead of Rockhoppers and may work similar to other scenarios where if the leader of the species gets killed then a competing race takes over, until they get wiped out, and so on and so on.

Rangers can definitely take these guys out using root/snare/bow and Panic Animal. Much easier with stackable DoTs and C3 of course. Careful with Panic as they run directly towards an area of Stonegrabbers and you will get adds if they go too far. If you are under lvl 50 recommend you snare/panic and whack them till they turn on you, run back to between the cave entrance and the trees and shoot them with your bow as they come back then panic/whack/run/bow, rinse and repeat as often as necessary. Chaining panic will get you into Stonegrabber territory, being too close to the cave entrance may get you an uninvited rockhopper pop, and too close to the trees and those party-crashing shrooms join in.

You will, of course, have SoW or Wolf Form on. Have 3 superb hides from about 20 kills so may have been lucky. Left cause XP too slow but if hides sell for 100pp it could be a nice source of revenue.
Wolf Form
# Sep 13 2004 at 5:02 PM Rating: Decent
A word of warning: Wolf form is highly KOS in Dawnshroud. The zelniaks, normally indif to everyone, will come from the far reaches of the zone to make your day miserable.

If you're a non-nature class, as my enchanter is, the wolves are sometimes a bother... but the zelniaks are worse.

The hoppers in DSP are in between NL(Netherbian Lair) and ME(Maiden's Eye) zones on the wall (there be a cave made just for those big bugers!). I dont have loc on it....but cant be to hard to find. If you come up on a vendor type camp... then you're close. Hope this helps!

They also drop off Scarlet Rockhoppers in Scarlet Desert along with the Flawless and High quality hides. :)
