I got Raiders skull cap
# Apr 30 2004 at 8:44 PM Rating: Default
I must have been lucky, but i found an Alligator skin for sale in the bazaar for 5pp. The only item I needed to finish the quest. I turned in all of the items for quest and I got the cap. It was so pretty i decided to try it out and instantly I ported to west commonlands. I was so happy with the item i gated to PoK to try it again. That's when I found out it had only one charge on it. =( It's an ok item to have if it has a charge on it. I adventually sold it in the bazaar for 30 or 40pp. I tried to hunt alligators out in the swamp but i gave up after killing over 50 of them.
Alligator Skin?
# Apr 23 2003 at 2:44 PM Rating: Decent

Since Innothule Swamp has been revamped after LoY, bull alligators are really common, and I have killed about a hundred of them in total and never seen an alligator skin drop.

I have seen an alligator hide, a pristine alligator hide, and have tried to give them both to Marshal Anrey (he still gives the quest btw) and he says he doesnt need those items.

Anyone got any luck with a skin recently?

I may be mistaken but i don't think that there is a difference between skins and hides. Usually the terms are pretty interchangeable. That may not be so in this case, but i know that is how it is in other quests, etc. You may want to try it just to see if it works with a alligator hide. Just an idea.

No such luck with the Bull Alligator Skin! I killed easly, over 75 of them...No Skin. Get it together, Sony
Still in game??
# Jan 22 2003 at 4:30 AM Rating: Decent
Does this item/quest still exist pls? I have all the necessary items to make the Skullcap but when I hailed Marshall Anrey he didn't give me the quest. As far as I can remember my faction is warmly with him.

If you have any info pls let me know.
Thanks.

Can a Gnome Enchanter Use the First Cap? The +10 CHA one? I know they can't wear the second one.

A safer way to get the alligator skin
# Feb 18 2002 at 9:34 AM Rating: Decent
I wanted to complete that quest badly, and as I read here, I knew the alligator skin was the hardest to get (I got all the rest easily, even managed to buy the Dragoon Dirk via auction).

Innothule being very far from the nearest Bind point I could get (I'm a non-caster, i.e. 'sneaker'), and knowing that there are high-level NPCs that roam there and attack non-evil races, the risk to get killed was high, and knowing the skin was a rare drop, I didn't want to add "get killed - run naked through Nro - Oasis - Sro - get your corpse" to the frustration.

So here's what I did: I created a Troll character and raised him high enough to kill those Bull Alligators, and went hunting 'till I could loot one. I know, you have to be very patient to do this, but since the skin is a rare drop anyway, you have to be patient either way you do that. I chose the safest way (Bind point is not far, and roaming Troll Slayers - Basher Nkekta left me alone).

I was level 11 when I finally looted the skin. Made a big W00T when it happened! I then ran to EC tunnel and made the transfer to my halfling with the help of a guildmate.

Now back to playing my halfling again.....

Just did this quest last eve on Sullon Zek. Quest was fairly easy considering every zone I was in was controled by another team (Evil and Good).

Polar Bear - This was easy as the cubs wander up and down the path. Drops on the skin (white, non-stackable)are rare but not that bad and you get lots of nice L/M/H pelts while you wait.

Grizzly - Went to NK, lots of them wandering near the central guard tower. Only took 3 kills to get this skin (looks like pelt, stackable).

Alligator - Hunted in the Northern part of the Innothule swamp near Stragak. Only bad thing was a Basher that wanders the area. Never ran into her but it was always in the back of my mind. Took me about 10-12 kills to get this one. It looks like a snake skin (non-stack, green skin).

Shark - Somewhere it was mentioned it was sold in RV. Not so, it is sold at the docks in EFP or you can just kill the shark that sits near the docks (just a bit to the south near the rock in the water). Took me two kills and I got two skins (stackable, looks like the rear end of a shark, light blue color) on that kill.

Dragoon Dirk was given to me but I know you can camp Dorn (N Ro) or DVinn (Crushbone) to get this item. I have also heard you can get it from the Dark Elf Ambassador in Ogguk but have never tried this.

Did this quest at level 21 and made 2 blue of XP easily if not more.

Nice Item for Halflings

This is certainly a nice quest for levels 15ish. Might take a while, but the reward is sure worth it. Nice to know Verant is adding in a few decent quests for people below 20 :-/...(Now, where are those mage quests?!?)
did it twice
# Oct 25 2001 at 8:29 PM Rating: Default
I did this quest twice. i have the first cap and this cap. trying to sell this one as i only wanted one for the cha. i spent over 4 hours total on the bull alligator and got 2 skins. was going to try to get a couple for guild members, but f*** that! long camp, rare drop, long spawn time sometimes.

Finally got mine...

Wow, those Bull gators suck. Finally got mine tonight. The drop rate on the gator skin is sick. I know some people score it on the first try, great for them. I kiled 87 Bull aligators over the period of one month. Not camping, just poping in whenever people needed ports to SRo.

But I must say, it felt incredible when I turned it in.

I agree with you, Tollen. The Bull Gator spawn rate leaves alot to desire. I killed a BUNCH of them over 2 days of camping, with a Ranger tracking finally getting one to drop the skin....

Recharging
# Sep 19 2001 at 1:24 AM Rating: Decent
Ok to those of you asking about recharging this item.... The item it's self can not be recharged. What the NPC means by come see him again if you need it is to redo the quest. That will give you a new cap and new charge.
Gators
# Aug 14 2001 at 10:54 PM Rating: Good
This Damned Gator Skin was the hardest thing for me to get. I camped the Swamp for HOURS, then I got a gator in sight, ran to it, only to see it do a quick turn and charge another player who blasted it with a lightning bolt. Of course, he got the skin on his first kill. I was PISSED! I continued to camp, and after killen a dozen Bull gators, and a hundred Giant water Moccs, I stumbled across a fat Alligator, so I figured, "what the Hell", killed him, and there in his belly next to an Ogre arm was an Alligator skin! Hey I'm not complaining, just telling you, you never know what you might get! Good Hunting, and GOOD LUCK!
YES!
# Aug 09 2001 at 9:55 PM Rating: Decent
I have finally achieved the status of Leather Foot Raider. I as many others had a very hard time with the Gator Skin. I had all the other components which were very easy to find. I camped the swamp for about 5 hours my first day and 3 hours the next and finally I yelled...WTB Gator Skin...I got a tell and offered 35pp. Got it! So I figure I payed 35pp for a LFR cap. Fine with me. Even better on my way back to Freeport I yelled to buy another Dragoon Dirk to get back what I had lost and a friendly Ogre just gave me one. Oh and I got my squad ring. Now Im just weary of using their charges man why cant I recharge. Oh well...good luck to all.

Strange
# Aug 06 2001 at 9:01 AM Rating: Decent
So yesterday I decided to give this a go. i started out with the Dragoon Dirk. Camped Dorn in No Ro for maybe 45 min. had to kill him three times. He dropped it the third time. BTW, Dorn has a 15 min spawn rate. Next went to Innoth Swamp since I was right there to get my alligator skin. This I was worried about b/c of all the post here about how hard it was to get one. Walked right in and got a skin on my second kill. Next I went to North Karana. Killed a half dozen Rabig Grizzlies and one droped my skin. So I went to Everfrost and there I just found a newbie that had been hunting in the area and gave him a chuck of change for a Polar Bear Skin. At this point, I had traveled all over Antonica and didn't feel like looking for a common Polar Bear in Everfrost. Very confusing zone that's easy to get lost in. I got all the required components in about 4-6 hours. I spent all my time running around. That's what took so long. My problem is that I can't get the Marshall to talk to me about the quest. I'm a Level 20 Halfling Druid. He mentions the LeatherFoot raiders but wont mention the quest. I'm not about to get burned so I'm not giving him the items until he mentions the quest. Any ideas? I find this to be frustrating. Played 6 hours...Got all the stuff and now it's Pay Up time.

I think its like the squad ring, where it can be recharged, the question is, who does the reacharging, the guy you get it from or someone in the druid guild? (healing ring for clerics? port cap for druids?) makes sense doesnt it?
I Want to Recharge It!

Can anyone tell me where i can get this thing recharged? Having it abel to be recharged is a good quality that this cap has and is very useful to my rogue. Any info would help.

the quest

Wow I feel really sorry for the guy who got smacked in sro by terrorantula LOL! I've spent too much time in sro and only seen the big spider twice but here goes this brave little halfling on a quest and BAM big spider!
Dragoon dirks sometimes drop off dark elven guards in nek forest, some of those are as low as teen levels but most people doing this quest will probably just buy one. I couldn't find one for under 50 plat even though several actually better piercers were being sold for less in commons at the SAME TIME that I bought the dirk. They used to go for 50 plat on bertoxx, over a year ago, so much for depreciation.
My experience with the bull alligators is that after a few dead snakes and the occasional kobold or swamp gator a bull would eventually show up. I mostly hunted between the western tip of the island where the undead tower is and the hand where the shaman vendor is, don't worry the shaman vendor hasn't been KoS to a halfling druid karana, agnostic woodelf bard, or agnostic half elf rogue, I think he likes everyone. I did run into the RARE troll slayer or one of those light races that likes to bug the trolls outside guk but usually if I never went south of the shaman vendor hand I never saw them. I have tracked swamp gators all over innothule and the same with the snakes but it was usually the ones in the area I mentioned that eventually caused a bull gator to show up. I did this once without tracking and eventually received a skin after 4 or 5 skins. another time I hit track while taking my bard to guk and happened across 4 bulls on radar, the second of which had a skin.
Polar bear skins are the easiest, all the level 2 polar bears that wander the valleys in Everfrost seem to drop them as a not too rare drop and anyone over level 6 could slaughter them readily on their way out of blackburrow and obtain one fairly easily.
Grizzly bear skins are also fairly easy, they seem to be a pretty common drop off grizzly bears but I have also seen them on any bear from a brown bear to a full sized kodiak. You could also check merchants in misty or the karanas or the commons or on my server just hang out in WC and one of the people mercilessly slaughtering bears for HQ skins will leave a grizzly skin on a corpse for you.

Well My lvl 10 trol shaman was doing a little hunting around the hand and bull gators were walking by all the time. I let them go cause they would swarm me and they were high blue. Anyway thought that I would try to make something outta the skin (boots or something) After a couple messages like cannot combine in this container I gave up and looked for it on this site. Is it really worth 100pp if it is ill sell it in a heartbeat. For those wanting to hunt one themselves sit by the hand and kill all the giant mocs that come buy. Thats what I did and the bulls were always around. In fact i had no idea they were rare.

If you are interested in buying my gator skin send me a tell
