The Infamous "Named" Spawns

Not much to offer but I've lived in JP for about 20 lvls lol. Iv'e made a ton o pp selling

plant shoots and Griffon meat, watched the village get overrun by the Darkpaw orcs many

times, watched lvl 65+'s come in for their quest npc fight, in other words many many MANY

hours. In all that time (stretching from Oct-Nov 04, a three month break then half Mar-April

05) And NEVER saw any named, heard of any named, or was asked about any named. Then in ONE

night in late April 05, I hit track and saw: Fiercewind, Jarg Oakenfist, and the Golden

Talon ALL UP AT THE SAME TIME! Needless to say I dropped them all as this may have been a

once in an EQ experience lol. I got the Fiercewind, Oakenfist gloves, and Griffon Wing

Cloak. So it is possible but these must be super rare spawns. Alla has very little usefull

info on any of the items, (no pricing on any) most a year or two old (or older) So if anyone

knows anything please post. Ive /ooc'ed many times for info and a PC but got no answers of

any use. Just FYI all three were db to my 59 Rng. Talon and Fiercewind easy fear kites. Jarg

was a real stinker, a casteing druid, can be slowed (better be) and was very tough. Kept

rooting and tossing out a couple other goodies. I had kei and HoV so was able to nuke shoot

and melee to finish. Well...I've got three uber rare pieces of junk or ???kpp lol. Have a

good one and stay alive.

I ran into the Jaggedpine earlier tonight, and saw this named treant scooting around... I wasn't really sure if these treants were good or evil though, since they're apprehensive to my halfling druid, and scowl at him when he's in wolf form.

One of the posts down on this thread said that Jerg Oakenfist was yellow at 52... but I didn't know he was this high in level, since he was just dark blue to me at 57. If I had known he was this high, I probably wouldn't have even considered attacking him, especially by myself!

The first time, I pulled him with Annul, though I'm not really sure why; it was probably because he appeared to have a run speed buff, and I assumed he would have other buffs on as well. I snared him, and tried to root him so I could throw a couple dots on him... but he was casting some spells on me, and root wasn't working very well, so this eventually turned into a nasty kite with me zoning out at 20% hp and 20% mana.

While I sat in Surefall Glade, regaining my mana and health... and my wits, I formulated a plan to kill him. With my buffs still good, I zoned back into Jaggedpine with full health and about 80% mana. I tracked down Jerg, to see where he was, and once I found him, I began tracking around for a giant anaconda. These snakes are still dark blue to me at 57, and they're animals, so I was going to use them to kill this treant. I found the snake, snared him for safety, then used Glamour of Tunare to help Call of Karana work a bit better. Then I hasted him with Savage Spirit, the level 44 druid pet buff. Next, I dragged him along until I found Jerg again, and sent the snake in to attack. The snake was doing a lot of damage, I'm sure, since those things hit very hard, and he had a good haste buff on... but Oakenfist was extremely durable. I think he dispelled the charm on the anaconda, because the charm broke after he had cast something, so I backed off a ways, and recharmed the snake. After a few rounds, Jerg began to attack the snake again... and eventually killed it. Now Jerg had about 40% of his health left, but he started casting heals on himself, and as a druid, I had very limited ability to stun him and stop his spells... so he healed up some, and came lumbering after me. By now, I was low on health, and low on mana, and trying to kill this tree... so I tracked down another giant anaconda, and dragged Jerg over towards it. When I finally found the snake, I used the same tactics... snare, tash, charm, attack tree. Now I was running around in large circles, with Jerg following me around, and the snake attacking him... this went on for a couple of minutes. Next, I told the snake to stay put, and pulled Jerg away from it a bit, then circled back around to drop a haste buff on the snake, so he could do more damage to the treant. The whole time, Jerg was sporadically stopping to heal himself. Eventually, after I spent a few more minutes running around frantically dodging various griffs that were zooming about, Jerg Oakenfist fell silent.

Jerg Oakenfist dropped three items:

Oakenfist Gloves
Gnollish Holy Symbol (NO RENT)
Gnoll Warrior Crest (NO RENT)

I came here trying to find out what these items were for, but since time is short, I'll have to log back in and beg somebody to kill me to preserve these things until I can find out what they're for.

Okay, here's what I remember about Jerg Oakenfist...

It may be obvious, but I'll say it anyway: he's a druid. Now, I didn't quite understand his casting methods... and I didn't like the way he cheated, either! He was hitting for around 150 or so in melee, so I assumed he was around level 50 or maybe even a few levels higher... which is why his spellcasting didn't make any sense. A few times, he was chain-casting the level 34 druid spell Fury of Air on me; this was where the cheating came in. Fury of Air has a pretty fast casting time, does 250 magic damage, and stuns for about 2.0 seconds... and it also has a recast delay around 30 seconds or so. However, he was casting it over and over and over, several times in a row, like it was a regular spell; he *almost* kept me perpetually stunned when I couldn't resist the spell a few times in a row. Also, he was casting a fire nuke that did 184 damage... making me combust? Combust is the level 29 druid fire nuke... why is a level 50+ druid casting that? He was also using Drones of Doom, instead of Drifting Death or Winged Death. He never bothered to throw a snare spell my way, or a root spell either, that I can remember.

In melee, he was hitting me for up to 150 damage or so. He's a pretty big tree, so his melee range is pretty far too, similar to a giant. I couldn't even begin to guess at his health total: the giant anacondas generally hit for over 100, and my pets were hasted (45% or so I think) most of the time, so they were tearing him up pretty bad... and I had to use two different snakes to kill him! I had used my sleeves to put Drones of Doom on him a few times while I ran him around, and I managed to land Winged Death on him a couple of times as well. To put it simply, Jerg Oakenfist is one very resilient tree.

As far as where to find him... I'm guessing that he's just a random spawn from the treant cycle. When I first found him, he was scooting around near the human outpost... but later, when I tracked him down for the final battle, he was pretty far away from the outpost, and I ended up running him near the bandit camp at one point. This was probably because I was dragging him behind me, while I searched for another anaconda to charm. I don't really have any information on his spawn, but if I had to suggest something, I would say to kill the treants in the zone until he showed up.

Also, if anyone happens to learn of a quest involving these gnoll relics, please post it here somewhere. Smiley: smile

I Like these for my beast,Any one have anymore info on Jerg Oakenfist like lvl and what faction he on?. Nice ac and str with the raw mana, I love this zone too ideal for my 53 druid and took my beast from Lvl 40 - 43 in 3-4 nights play in the basilisk cave soloing.

I've seen him up once so far. Named treant, yellow to me at 52, assume he's 53.
Nice Ranger Gloves

The only person who can wear em and get the most use is rangers...these would be smooth monk gloves tho, i bet some will be complaining on this board.

Otherwise, there aren't many mana/int yielding glove items for purecasters either. 30 mana would be roughly 3 int or so and thats not bad on gloves unless you get into higher end stuff. Most purecasters aren't that strong and this will definately help with carrying stuff...plus the ac on these is to die for in most INT caster cases...i may hunt down a pair for my wizard.

I clearly see BST in the list of classes on the screenshot...beastlords CAN use these, monks cannot.
where's the melee?
# Aug 09 2002 at 4:07 PM Rating: Decent
THese are nice upgrades to iksar scaled or dark mail. But i can't help notice that war, rogue or monks can't use. Personally i would love them for those classes. I can't see any of the classes actually opt to wear these except beast, and maybe ranger.

As a Druid I would also wear them. Strength is a real low stat on Druids, the magic resist is nice, and it has mana.

i as a wood elf druid would where these ,, at 40 my wis is almost maxed but my str is still under 100 so +10 str and raw mana would be great for me

THis would be uberish for clerics with maxed out WIS, but aren't raiding too much yet.
