Want to see which mobs have the eyes on them? turn your gamma to 50% (Alt-O then click Display tab). Assuming you don't have ultravision the glowing griffons will have an eye on them.
I have one for sale

This dropped for me off the first griffon I killed. Guess I got lucky. Anyway, I have one for sale on Innoruuk. Send me a tell in game if you are interested in it.

I am a 51 ranger of tunare on Rathe server and can tell you that myself and ranger friend go to JP quite often and farm xp and meats and do a very good jhob of it too just be careful as the poachers will add on you and chase you around they are annoying

btw the meats sell for 50p per in bazaar and eyes go for between 1500 and 3k pp i have yet to see a earring though but i will continue to try hehe so far we have looted a total of 6 eyes and more meat than i can count and this is in 2 lvls of solo each in JP

What i like to do is as soon as i get an eye i go and put it in shared slot in bank in case i get another as JP is my main source of money and xp so i hope this helps

Any faction hits for theses?
# Aug 15 2003 at 4:53 AM Rating: Decent
HI Guys, I've been told that alot of the creatures of Jaggedpine will give you bad faction around bank area. Does this only apply to bears and wolves? I really want to hunt griffs, black panthers, and Anacondas. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

# Dec 14 2003 at 9:32 AM Rating: Decent
You can hunt Griffs and Anacondas all you want, no faction hit, all other animals give faction hits.
Should have bought in bazaar

I've been hunting here for 3 days now and have had no luck finding any glowing griffons or eyes. I've probably killed a hundred or so in this time, all over the zone, including the loc's mention in these posts. One thing I can say is that the largest concentration of griffon/griffawns I have found is slightly southwest of the poacher camp. There are around 6 or 7 that spawn there, as well as several willowisps, which I have also been killing in hopes of popping the griffon with the eye. Anyways, if anyone has any more valuable info, send me an email at Nulludar@eqguild.net or post it here. I thought this would be a much easier item to get when I started, now I realize that I was completely wrong on the matter. But on the up side, I am making some plat and experience while killing. And have noticed that most of the drops are words in one form or another, which is good for my necro. Well, hope ya have better luck than I have...

I couldn't get a group in any of the Planes that day so i decided to go solo in JP. Killed like 3 timber griffons and after about 5 minutes there it was. I wasn't even expecting it. Didn't notice it glowing. Whatever. Guess im lucky tho.

Finally got one...
# Apr 30 2003 at 8:54 AM Rating: Decent
I must have killed over a thousand griffons (seems like it, anyways), and finally got the eye last night. I was in JPF farming meats, and it dropped off of a Timber Griffon. As it has been stated many times here, he was glowing. Unfortuneately, the eye was of no use to me, so I put it up for sale in the Bazaar. There were no others for sale at the time, and I didn't have a clue as to the price, so I asked 1500pp for it. Well, either I asked too little for it, or someone REALLY wanted it, because it sold in just a matter of minutes.

It's funny, though...I have spent a LOT of time in JPF and have never seen GoldenTalon. I've read that his PH's are Potameid (no idea why) and willowisps, but no one is 100% sure. Anybody else have an idea on his PH?

FYI -- Finally got him today. Heart was pumping out of my chest.

It is a strange glow as if the light is coming down from on top of the Griffon.

Anyway, easy to take down for a Lvl 50 Druid. He was around the 247, -136 coordinates hanging out is a patch of trees.

I did not note any tricks to make him spawn. Thought for awhile that it is related to the wisps in the area. There is one wisp that does not glow. It seemed reasonable that there is a relationship. If I was to do it over again I would take a party there and kill all wisps and hang out at those coordinates.

It took 3 levels and maybe hundreds of griffons to get this wonderful item. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

I've been hunting for one of these for a couple of days, and have slain about 25 big red griffons, and still no sign. I haven't been watching for glowing ones, and rest assured I'll be canvasing the poacher camp in about 20 minutes. Was wondering though if my level (39 hfl dru) might be adversely affecting the drop. Any thoughts? I would like to hear from a young druid who found one. Thanks.

Lighted Griffon
# Feb 09 2003 at 10:12 AM Rating: Decent
Thought I'll drop a note, was camping poachers when I saw a Griff fly by trailing a light right under it. So I gave chase and after rooting a few others that tried to help it, killed and sure enough, the eye was on it. About soon a I looted it, saw two more griffs that I snared and rooted coming after me, so I gated out of there. So look for a griff with a light under it, have to say, best time to look IMHO would be night time. If your not a Druid or a Ranger, get one and track every griff on their radar until you find one trailing a light.

I just gotta say one thing... Bards track too.
Okay, i know we suck at it, and filters are horrible... but hey, thats just one more class that can help you.

Besides.. we always get there first! : )

Will agree with the lighted part. Ran by one of these today and noticed that under it, it glowed like a willowisp. Sure enough, it dropped the eye.

Looted the 2nd in less than a week yesterday (gave the first to my lower level Dru and the 2nd to my Dru partner). It was glowing as bright as a wisp, and since it was night it really stood out. This to was a Griffon not a lessor one, and it was just south of the elf guy sitting in the middle of the mushroom circle- can't rememver his name, so obviously its a rare random drop all over the zone. Hope that helps.

Was hunting in JP this morning (2am) just hit 44 and killed a few griffons and the eye dropped. I suppose I was lucky. At anyrate, the one that I killed definately glowed. As one person stated previously on this post...it is about as bright as the wisps there. It is also more difficult to kill than the average griffs in the zone. Good Luck to you all!

Killed a griff down the direction of the poachers near the road and it droped a eye this morning before I took off for the office. Didn't notice it glowing, but when I'm in the snare, combust, fear kite mode as fast as possible do to competition I dont notice much anyways. I must have killed close to 200 of these things. Didint even know they dropped a 10wis piece. Wonder what they sell for? Anyways... good hunting.

Hunting Timber Griffons again today for XP and I saw a Grif with a light source, and yes he dropped the Eye of the Griffon. Last one it dropped off of was not glowing. But same thing, it was the Timber Griffon that spawns near the Gem at the outpost.

I have hunted JP off and on. I am currently a 45 BeastLord and I have just started hunting griffs. I looted one after 50 or so kills. Its rare because griffs spawn everywhere and not many hunt in JP. I can confrim the griffs that drop the eye do glow. They glow about as bright as a wisp. My only problem is that griffs don't like cat folk; therefore, unless I find a group (LOL in JP) I don't stray too far from zone boundries.

Willing to confirm the rarity of the drop. Hunted here for about 10 levels exclusively, and have seen one eye drop. So either somebody knows a trick to get one a night, or I'm doing something wrong )

And I've never seen Golden Talon either hehe
RE: Rarity
# Dec 01 2002 at 5:45 PM Rating: Decent
Yep, very rare. I've been killing Timber Griffons for the past two months and haven't seen any drop. I've only seen two Griffon earrings in that time as well. AND I've never seen Golden Talon.

Update--I was killing a Giant Anaconda last night over near the Poacher camp. After dropping it, I hit track and a Timber Griffon was nearby. Ran a short way and engaged it. When it dropped, it had the Eye of the Griffon, Flawless Aquamarine, Words of somekind and some plat. After killing over 300 of these things I finally got one. The Griffon didn't glow at all btw.

Friend of mine hunts griffs like I hunt giants in GD... She seems to get one about one per night, so she either has really good luck, or they're not as rare as one might think.

I believe they have fixed the drop rate. I killed about 800-1000 Griffons and saw no fangs or eyes. Since the last patch (mid november) I have seen 4 fangs and 2 eyes in less than 50 kills.

As for the glow. Yes they do glow and it is quite noticable. The trick is to wait for the Griffon to move - the glow will follow it. If the glow is from the terrain - it naturally doesnt move.

I have been hunting in JaggedPine for about 3 weeks now, killing 100+ Timber Griffons. One finally dropped, the griffon was not glowing. Also, this is NOT a common drop. More like a rare drop.

#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 19 2002 at 9:13 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I've been hunting in Jagged Pine Forest leveling 1 or 2 times a day with just several hours online my Druid..(yeah, C3 and these new zones, focus items, etc, have really made EQ way too easy). Anyhow, I've slain atleast 500 griffon/griffiens altogether. I'm always in Form of the Great Wolf, yet this has a draw back to the "glow method"...ultravision. Kinda hard to tell what glows and doesn't when everything is as bright as day. Anyhow, probably about the 50th one, or there abouts, that I slain dropped this. After that, no luck. Oddly enough, its not until just the very last one that I killed did the Griffon Fang Earring drop. (2ac, +6agi, +20hp, or something like that).
Hmm...

Just looted one of these, and I can confirm that the Timber Griffon I killed *did* seem to light up the area around it. I have, however, killed other Griffs with what seemed to be a 'glow' about them - but they dropped nothing.

It's a great item (I'll be wearing it for many levels to come,) but with the confirmation that Charisma affects the new 'Harmony', I guess it has it's drawbacks.

I got one of the first Griffawn I killed in JPF but have not seen once since. I have now killed somewhere around 100 griffawns and griffons. I am also under the impression they can drop off any of the griffs there.
Just killed a "glower"

I killed a Timber Griffon with a glow about it and I got some words and griff meat... no eye =( So that theory is not always the case.

Are you certain that the griffon that didn't have the eye was glowing? This zone is kind of strange as far as glows are concerned. There are many spots in zone that glow on their own. I saw from other posts that people said that the griffons with eyes glow and to look for them. I had trouble distinguishing glow spots in the zone with whether the griffons were glowing so I stopped looking for glowing griffons. I just couldn't tell without a griffon beating my head in. Last night I was pulling one to my pull spot. When I turned around to ensnare him, much to my surprise I noticed that the glow around him was moving with him. Sure enough, he had an eye.

After killing tons of griffons i looted 1 very early this am and there it was the...eye. Wow says i very nice. Less then 1 hour later another dropped and being lore i gave the loot rights to another in zone and he was very happy to have it. So far i am using it and with KEI my wis is 230 and cha is a whopping 30 lol. However i have 2 steins with nice cha boost so it's ok. They were selling in the Bazaar on Fennin Ro today at 4700pp on at least 2 traders.

Looted one of these off a timber griffon with my ranger. +10 wis, -20 cha, +20 hp range item I believe. Took it to bazaar and sold it for 2800 pp! Saw another one listed for 4500pp and others a few days earlier priced at 3000pp. Thanks to this little item I was able to buy a Centi-Longsword and pocket the rest. Nice item, especially when people are willing to pay so much for it.

Lest you think these things are not too rare, let me add this: I killed a BUNCH of Griffons (may 100+) before I got an eye. Great XP at my level, so no complaints...

I can third (or fourth) the comment about the Griffons glowing, though... the one I killed that had an eye was most definitely a light source!

My CHA is now 30! Ha! Gotta remember to take this eye off when selling!
