The Glaive is a knife bladed spear used with a cutting action and piercing action. It was not very good vs cavelry so it evolved into the Glaive-Guisarme. This added a reverse spike to snag mounted enemies and unhorse them. IF you broaden the blade it becomes a Voulge which is a cleaver headed spear more used to slash. A plain Guisarme is based on the peasant's prunning hook. the Glaive(knife), Voulge(cleaver), Fauchard(sickle), and Guisarme(prunning hook) are this class weapon. These were used by armies of peasants. They were common and cheap. Glaive is not a sword. I prefer the Bardiche(axe) or partisan(spear with tiny double axe) as a Pole arm myself.
Shoot... And I was just watching Krull too... I thought I'd found the Glaive in EQ. Ah well... my throwing sucks anyhow so I guess the Beast will have to wait...
In a couple different dictionaries I have here (one from the 60s, one from the 90s), a glaive is defined as more of a broadsword. I suppose after a while it gets to be very difficult to come up with new names for weapons, so a thesaurus must come in handy for the dev guys.
I just got this with my 45 SK and i think i will give it to my 11 Bard because my SK doesnt use 1hs and this is comparable to the Blackened Alloy Long sword my bard has it is 10/26 with no stats and i think i would like the stats better than the extra dmg.
