Not as useful since 4/12 patch
# Apr 18 2005 at 9:18 PM Rating: Decent
Well, this weapon for me used to proc about 4-5 times a fight, giving me 1600-2000 mana. With a 6K mana pool, it was nice to get back to 1/3 mana by meleeing. Since the change to Theft of Thought, they have modified the proc rate on this weapon so it procs more often, however it will drain up to 400 mana (limited by how much mana the mob has). It procs like 7-8 times a fight now, however normally I am running into only 1 hit will get the full 400 mana, the other procs will only pull whatever mana the mob has regened. So I may end up with anywhere's between 400-600 mana. Given the fact that I have weapons that deal more damage killing the mob quicker, and I need to heal myself more with this, I actually may end up using any mana I gained or more. Sadly, this weapon was one of my favorite tools, but now it is near useless to me.

it'd be really nice if you knew what you were talking about. sadly, that isn't the case.

DMoT proc rate hasn't changed. the only thing that has changes is the cap on the proc itself.

every single OoW/DoN mob has a mana pool. However, melee mobs have a very small mana pool.

any casting mob will give you the full 400 mana when it procs, provided that mobs has at least 400 mana remaining.

trust me, this thing is 10 times better since the ToT fix =)
does it swap mana?

Im unaware of this spell and weapon, does this drain mana from the target and give it to the user??

This has a -20% lowered chance to proc under the default proc rate of weapons (according to unknown070 value).
RE: -20%
# Mar 01 2005 at 6:40 AM Rating: Decent
i use this on my 66 shaman and this procs for me all the time, i do not see a difference in the proc rate between other weapons. It all really depends because i could proc 6 times in a fight but in others i could proc only once or twice..... possibly not at all.
RE: -20%
# Mar 01 2004 at 1:23 AM Rating: Decent
The new links to the Lucy entry are very useful.
Yes this procs less often than the default rate but it still has a very nice effect, useful for all classes that can use it. I believe it is the only significant cleric usable manatapping item, not really sure if druids and shaman have other manatapping items.

Anyone know how frequently this drops?

We have seen it once in about a dozen kills. The one time it did drop, he had it equipped in his main hand. Looked like your standard Luclin style mace, with the 4 "blades" of elaborate stone.

I could use a little help. What is better to raise for a Shaman, piercing, or blunt?
RE: Off the subject
# Mar 20 2003 at 11:29 AM Rating: Default
I'd say it depends on what you're looking for.

If it's damage I'd lean towards 2hb and work towards the rabid bear aa.

If it's a balanced attack for soloing look for a decent 1hander you'll need all the help you can get AC/HP wise if you plan to tank.

There are a lot of weapons out there that blow the epic ratio out of the water, so now, piercing isn's as important as it once was. I'd say just pick one of the 3 and stick with it. I tried to get all 3 working and I basically falied at all of them.

Honestly tho, meleeing for a shaman is mostly a waste of time. The last parce I did in ssra with a decent 1hb Aleje's Ceremonial Cudgel(my skill is 170ish 1hb) with avatar, chanter speed, fbss, and a bard...my average dps was a whopping 3.

Just 3.

So, it sounds nice to be a battle shammy, but the reality of it is: you're better off meddin.

I have the Dark Mace of thought and I am a cleric. Add that with Yaulp V1 and I mana regen better then sitting so I have a choice of sit or hit. Thats all. Its interresting that after all this time EQ is seeing Clerics as what they were really meant to be. Healers that can mellee. Not tank but mellee. HMMMMM.

Someday when you are in a well run high end raid you will find that when the clerics and shaman and druids are meleeing that things are going extremely well... not badly. This weapon would serve ANY priest class during a well run raid. The proc is not going to draw enough agro in this case because you are not going to overcome the agro added to the MT by your SK' buffs on them and the pure hell damage the MT is doing and you may just end up having full mana at the end of each casting boss mob for prep buffs for the next. I melee all the time during our raids on my cleric as do most of our other clerics and priest classes because it is fun to so something different than simply sitting and watching all the tanks have all of the fun. Smiley: grin If we are not drawing agro with the new insane proc-o-matic hammers we have been given lately then this much less frequent proc sure isn't going to do it.

Please don't make such hasty assumptions until you have experienced the well run high end game itself. When your raid group does 10 Luclin BOSS mobs in less than one 12 hour period then I think you may consider yourself to have been on a well run raid.

I have to disagree on the drawing aggro point here. I was meleeing fulltime during our first VT raid, after i got this hammer. It helped with keeping the gaters sieved, as it procs 2-3 times every fight.

I was the only person on the raid able to grab aggro from our pally main tank on a regular basis (like every 5th or 6th MOB for a few hits).

High hits were in the 160 area, damage output still sucked, as i had no chanter haste up, just Yaulp 5 (don't have Y6 yet) and 22% haste from SCHWs.

Well, there's two sides of this. Normally I'd defend your side, but I got to play Devil's Advocate. Don't you ever /assist for heals? nm, you're a shaman.

and 10 Luclin bosses in 12 hours? You the only 50+ guild on your server?? There's IV, Shei, RC, DS, THO, burrower beast, restless burrower, LIS, and I think 8 mobs in ssra unless you have inner AC or VT access. (well, what do you consider a boss? You can get like 10 named out of UP if you count Spirits and Zelnithak, etc.)

Note that this drops in VT, so he obviously has VT access. A typical VT clear might go something like KTXAD, DXX, DXXT, TVK, DXVT, VXAHR, KTAHR x2, AHR. That's 9 bosses, and should take 8-12 hours, depending on dps, lag, attendance and other factors. If you've got the time, kill the two TVX's on the first floor too, then that's 11 bosses in around 12 hours.

So those numbers are very reasonable.
on the raid...

Well on the cleric / dru/sham melee... on a raid If there meleeing then something may be wrong... Ive seen torpor save many alife ~ Druids geting in the heal that saved the casters from the AoE Dots.. And the cleric meleeing, on a raid I would be woried if I saw that happening during a main fight. Group style ~ all the more power to them. Extra dmg is great ~ ToT is one of my greatest spells. Taping 400mana from a mob on pop up from death can get a group going again in almost 0 time. So its a nice play toy for the off time for effect / ratio. Now where the nice part of this comes in is the HP. HP are valued above all other stats in the high end. When you cap ac, cap sta, and looking for something more its all HP. ~ So keep ranting about the wrong reson this belong to X class. Go lvl. Join guild. Raid. Get loot. Then come back and talk about how to run a raid, tacktics and not about loot rights.
A druid item?
# Jul 03 2002 at 12:56 AM Rating: Decent
It's kind of hard to immagine, but this may actualy be better for druids than shammy or clerics. I can't think of anyone on a non-pvp server that wants the level 60 cleric meleeing. Shammy in any raid type situation are trying not to pull agro after doing a little necessary slowing/debuffing. Druids on the other hand...all their doing is patch healing. They don't have much chance of pulling agro if everything is going well. A little melee for them and if they proc they get all the mana from one and a half chloroblasts back. Most druid races have naturaly high dex. Most druids have their 1hb skill trained to a fairly decent level (for a caster). And best of all, who minds if the druid pulls agro and gets slaughtered? Not quite as affective as a patch heal but it buys at least 3 or 4 seconds. Just a thought.

RE: A druid item?
# Dec 12 2002 at 1:23 PM Rating: Decent
A Cleric standing meleeing with Yaulp V going is regening pretty close to the same mana as if they were sitting.... so why not stand up and take a couple wacks??? If you need to heal, then heal, attacking doesn't stop you from casting spells unless you draw agro and are getting interrupted. Its not that bad a sign to see a cleric meleeing.... as long as she realizes that it shouldn't be their focus.
Omg...

Just for quick reference, here's a cut/paste of the proc effect:

Theft of Thought
Decrease Mana from 346 (L51) to 400 (L60) and adds it to yours
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Classes: Enc (L51)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Skill: Alteration
Allowable Targets: Drain
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Range to Target: 200 feet
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Resistance Check: Magic
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mana Required: 25
Spell Duration: Instant
Casting Time: 2.0 seconds
Spell Recovery: 2.25 seconds
Recast Delay: 120.0 seconds
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spell cast on you: You feel your mental energies drain away.
Spell cast on someone: Soandso staggers.

You could argue that it'd be most useful to a shaman since they could buff up their dex and make it proc more...but then I'd be worried about the shaman getting aggro. Heh. They already get a ton of aggro from just having to slow stuff. Definitely nice for any of the classes tho.

This (and its INT-caster equivalent) are both godlike in duels.

I dueled another druid with similar gear and AA's - only difference was that I had the DMoT and he didn't. He quit when he ran out of mana, and I was still at FM.

When every proc is an 800-mana swing (400 from them and 400 to you), the advantage goes to the person with the DMoT.

This thing is also awesome in groups. Between this and the Hammer of Hours, melee is very worthwhile for casters.
