Quest was confirmed to still function by Drool in August of 2015.
Note, despite confusing comments in the thread to the contrary, this quest is doable at low levels by killing ice goblins in the newbie area of Everfrost (outside of Halas, near the PoK book for example) vs. requiring the level 15+ goblins. Quest is more for flavor that quality of gear, so useful to roleplayers and perhaps progression types. Quest does provide some faction too.

Ok I am one that from the start I never cared much on how much I could or couldnt get for completing a quest, just doing it and being able to say that I did was all I needed. The staff is not the best ok we all agree.... the real point is that it is a quest that a LOW lev can complete. It was not ment to hold a great deal of power to anyone, but the +5 mana is a good thing for a LOW lev. I would think that any quest that you could do at this lev would be worth it in the faction alone. But that is just my opinion.

Well this weapon is for pure casters. There aren't many 1hb weapons a low-lv pure caster can get easily. Especially a high-lv magician most likely will be using one of focus items, 1hb weapons. Of course melee damage won't do much damage comparing to DD at that lv, but you know it's always better to be good than bad.

I still think that VI could make this quest result in a tad better weapon but 4/28 is the same as a splintered club which you can catch a lot of people weilding just to keep 1hb up so why not carry one of these for the low delay and practice? (up until here I was thinking I would argue for this as a good quest for SOME people...)
Oh yea, water crystal staves (yes the plural of staff is staves not staffs no matter what that cleric in Erudin says) go for like 15 plat on most servers and have a proc and hit magic that's why.
Yea if you really want a 1hb with low delay and want to be cheap you could get one. It really is a crappy crappy weapon considering theres a good chance you could kill something and loot a cracked staff on the way to or from Everfrost when doing this quest and 5 mana isn't even one level 1 DD spell (most are 7 mana.)
Even noc's femur is a better weapon considering it is at least magic and has a proc although I don't want to get started on that one either because 5/35 and 10 mana still ain't any better than the 5/32 that a cracked staff is.
The really sad part is VI put so little thought into the whole continent of Odus and then they wonder why it's deserted most of the time, even with The Warrens.

The only complaint I have is that a cracked staff has better stats and can be obtained by whacking level 1 decaying skeletons. If this allowed you to hit wisps, I'd be all over it.

ok im sick of you people talkin Guff about everything that dosnt compete with all the higher level junk, notice how easy the quest is, thats why the item isnt the greatest thing in the world
but it has its purpose like everything else in the damn game
a low level either newbie, or someone whos against twinkin and still at lower levels, can definitly use this staff, its beter that store baught and under lvl 10 5 mana is pretty decent
just go to g-fay and see how many newbie and low lvl casters have the sr. aprentice robe with that whole 1 manna, it sux compared to most stuff but what the hell else you gonna get under lvl 10

A problem w/ the argument that ppl are comparing this w/ higher lvl equipment, like for instance a Cracked Staff is not higher lvl equipment, a lvl 1 true blue newbie can easily get one (especially if you start on Odus where this quest also starts, just go to the Paineel newbie zone) and the Cracked DOES have better stats. Also as a more personal opinion, who in their right mind would want to go all the way to the Halas area for something that will help them even less than newbie equipment?
A few positive things i can say about the quest: if you are roleplaying your character then this is a quest that can help you make a *name* for yourself (get you some background for your character), completing any quest gives a sense of accomplishment, and the staff might sell for a decent amount of money for the level that you can get it at, but i dont know for sure.

ya , i agree it would be nice for a newb,..but what lvl 10 newb is gonna be able to travel from erudin to everfrost peaks, and camp ice goblins that are lvl 10 - 24 ? ... not likely, by the time you've been able to complete this quest, the item will be of little use to you (like most quests unfortunately) - lvl 23 wiz

heh, 10-24 :D made my day thx, all you have to do is whack a little ice goblin welp and it will drop ice goblin necklaces sometimes, also the ice goblin scouts drop this more often and are like 4-6th lvl (6th is rarish) so its not hard its a pretty good staff just look at the necro's noclin sash's pet quest same thing (although I cant remember if that staff is magic also its a bone but it does have +5 mana) and besides its alot better than the kelethin newbie quests where they rip off the newbies (druid quest and a few others, rangers quest is probably the only good low level quest{orc hatchet quest}) they have them turn in a couple weapons (some sell for a 1gp while some sell for a few sp but every cp counts at low levels) anyways to get back to it you turn in 4 rusty swords (druid quest) and get back 1 tarnished scimitar where as instead of possibly looting a rusty and hiking to kaladim mines or steamfont windmills you could sharpen your own plus get out of that always overcrowded zone...anyways long post/reply whatever...not everyone has 100kpp in the bank, and a lvl 60 druid to twink all their chars to high heaven with..[not impling ALL druids are twinkys but most are and they can do some serious damage to the EQ economy] (~_~)
(just like you finally worked your way through making patch work for you can't remember how many levels and you have slaved in front of that forge making studs....you finally get a full set done suit yourself of course, then you want to turn all this time you spent getting to here into at least a little profit so you can afford to move onto making reinforced leather or branch into another craft. Yet when you auction off your skills you get few replies in return..so you wasted all this time when you could be out forming a guild with friends leveling to be able to go and loot better eqiup....oh well unless its a new server or a server result of two other crowded servers, then your out of luck, money, and time...)
