I love the Newbie armor and i think your all just a bunch of cry babies for people who are new to the game its invaluble to there learning game controll and quest requirements. Its called everquest deal with it or go somewhere else.
I've been trying this quest with my level 5 half-elf druid (Quasiwulf - Saryrn server).
I have a few comments. I have found exactly everything I need EXCEPT the stupid giant field rat whiskers and the large king snake skin (used for the sleeves and the Pine Druid Scimitar). The ruined gnoll leather pieces you can buy off of some vendors.
I think this quest is stupid. Why? Because the drop rate on the whiskers are about 1 in every 50 kills. And the rats themselves are rare spawns. This makes it very difficult for a NEWBIE to complete. Now the Catch 22 is that the newbie needs the armor to fight the mobs needed to finish the quest. by the time he kills what needs to be killed and obtained the pieces he needs, he's no longer a newbie, and the armor, because of its poor stats, no longer has benefit to him.
I really think this quest should be modified so that its more newbie friendly. The drop rate needs to be more frequent on the whiskers, or else the stats on the armor needs to be tweaked to make it more beneficial to a level 10+.
I'm basically about to give up on this quest and just go buy myself a set of leather armor, then back to the business of killing as usual, saving my money, and going to the bazaar to buy myself way better gear anyway.
these are all of the original armor quests for the lower lvl players..... it is not suposed to be easy.... this is "EVER-QUEST"... get it. if you think these take a long time to complete.. quit the game now.. because there are alot at higher lvls that take weeks and months to complete.... so get used to it now... hell 1 drop in 50 kills is not that bad
i semi agree, but i think people should just stop whining about it. I have a level 9 druid and im doing this too. Talk to some rangers, make high level friends. Its not impossible to do. Besides, you only need the whiskers for certain parts, the rest you need pelts (which isnt as rare a drop).
Uh, what's the darned drop rate on these? I keep killin' 'em and killin' 'em and killin' 'em... So far, out of nearly 100 Giant Field Rats, I've gotten 1 whisker.
The woodelf equivalent of these quest is given out by the elf behind Heartwood Master. They are called Leafrunner Leather Armor. Most of the components are found inside CB and in the Greater Faydark Area.
It really doesn't make sense that halfling druids, and now human and half-elf druids, get newbie armor with WIS stats, yet Wood Elves are left with none. The only thing I can figure is that this is a balance for the Wood Elf cultural armors being geared somewhat towards druids, yet those are basically unattainable at low levels.
As one of the stated benefits of the Wood Elf race is the ability to wear both small and medium armors we should reasonably expect Wood Elves to be able to wear the armor and use the scimitar from these new Surefall quests. Either that or make something comparable available in Kelethin.
Patience, I believe they are working on them at the moment. There are some new quest available in Gfay on the test server. The ones I found in the 2 mins I was running around were for Bard items (from Sarialiyn Tranquilsong in the bard guild) and for Rogue items (from Tilania Shadowwalker in the rogues guild), but I would guess that there will be quests for all the classes that wood-elves can be (and probably half-elves as well).
