Not that great but..

To the person below me, I got my sharpening stone in steamfont. They probably sell them in South Qeynos or Freeport to but I'm not sure where. And to the other person below me. I got this sword because I'm not a twink. And haven't had anything really decent handed down to me yet from a stranger. At least in weapons. Anyways this is a pretty good weapon, but I think most newbie quest weapons should at least be 8 or 9 damage to start out with. Oh there is a trival btw when trying to make the other sword in the forge. So buy a stack of sharpening stones before attempting it. They only cost like 8 silver :)
where do i get a sharpening stone?

Sharpening stones aren't sold in Qeynos or Surefall Glade. You used to have to go to Halas or Erudin to buy them, but now you can go to Plane of Knowledge.

You can buy em in Freeport
Crappy, but good.

This weapon, at the level you can get it untwinked, is a bit crappy.

There are four reasons I would get this:

1. Because I'm a human ranger for cryin' out loud! It is my DUTY to get this.

2. Because it has less delay than my current weapon (by three points), even though it also has less dmg, but that helps when practicing.

3. Because it might look cool. I have no idea.

4. Because of the agi on it. My current weap has 2 str, 1 wis, 5 hp and mana. No agi. 2 agi isn't a lot, but it'd help.
Crappy, but good.

These newbie quest items were better than some raid gear in the older expansions, and were definitely better than anything you could farm by yourself well into your 30's. It's only crap when you compare it to what you can buy from other players. The weapons are especially valuable, since they have the magic tag, and make it possible to hunt wisps for lightstones and greater lightstones, which is a good source of income for a low level player. Prior to this, getting a weapon with a magic tag wasn't easy.

Has this quest been dropped?
# Apr 11 2003 at 8:48 AM Rating: Decent
I don't think this is dropped anymore. Since lvl 9, now 16, I have been trying to get this sword. I have the entire Pine Scout Armor set, and each time I turn in the head of Yollis I get a *Rusty* Pine Scout *Sword* Not even a Longsword. I cannot equip it, it has no damage value or stat bonus. It just reads lore item. So I took it to the forge and sharpened it. It is now a Sharp Pine Scout Sword and I still cannot equip it. I had about 8 of these and it never changes.

After giving the head and receiving the sword, you need to sharpen it with sharpening stones in a forge (just like any other rust sword). When you are successful you take the sword back, along with a gnoll tooth and a Large King Snake Skin. You then receive the sword. Completed sword.

I did this the other day. (April 2003) It still works!

You have to give it back to him with a king snake skin and something else I believe. Just follow the quest text and it works perfectly, I just destroyed mine the other day.

SO would that make it 17/27 ? because if so that makes it a really nice weapon, too bad by the time you SEE a bonus... you have better.

DMG bonus is based on level with 1hsers ONLY

With 2hsers, it's delay and level.

The level that this would give that dmg bonus at is probably around 40 or so. And any 1hser would give it that.

Therefore, if you have a 17/27 and this 6/27, the dmg bonus would be the same on each, and using that logic, it would be a 28/27 vs a 17/27.

Why only Human and Half Elf??? Why not Wood Elf??

Because Wood Elf Rangers don't start in Surefall Glade. You have your own newbie quests in the Kelethin Ranger guild.

Since wood elves start out in Kelethin they have the Trueshot longsword quest to do.. seems a bit more difficult though.

Damage bonus is purely level based. You will need to be in your 50s to get a bonus of 11.
Great for non-twinks
# Jun 20 2002 at 8:52 PM Rating: Decent
If you are un-twinked like myself, this is an awsome weapon. I am still useing at level 18, although I am still desperatly looking for a blackend aloy long sword. The only disadvatage to this one is it is primary only, but thats not a big deal at the low level you can get it.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 19 2002 at 4:41 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Then this item is a rather nice starter sword.

Damage bonus is based off the level of your character. This is a high lvl person that took the screen shot above. For the lvl intended for this weapon there will be no dmg bonus.
