unbalancing for mages

Mages were never meant to be able to root, if this was mage usable it would be completely unbalancing, regardless if it drops in VT or not. Same reason shammies dont get a right click snare/ensnare item.

Not snare/ensnare but it gets the job done.

Hardly. All that does is escape snare only, as in stopping a mob from running FULL speed. Doesn't even make a running mob stop 100%, they still run away.

That snare is useless for anything else, period. It doesn't slow an enemy down enough to kite, and only lasts like 36 seconds anyways.
Mages against the world

I CONSTANTly hear the magician community getting hasseled by everyone and how verant screws them over with items that they should be able to use i completely agree with the mages because i used to play one BUT the other classes. such as this item... the mages get a pet that will root while the wizards have to re root like hell if it goes off and resisted THIS will give them a chance to save mana by rooting the hell out of stuff... mages also can do better dmg than a wizard over time with their ubar pets becaue they have the best one in game basically

verant has fun ******** over everyone thought For Example... there was a 20/something peircer useable by rouges in kunark i belive... they NERFED it to 1hs (the ones that were left over) and made it stop droppings...

so in my opionion no one really does have the right to complain except for the paladins lol jk

This would make a monk godly. /cry, not usable by monks 8(
RE: Monks

Notice Mages aren't on the list either. The purpose is to not give a class a utility spell they wouldn't normally have.

Perhaps you missed it on the item description, friend.

SK cannot use.

# Dec 29 2002 at 9:36 PM Rating: Decent
The point of this item is to give people a clicky effect of something they already have. Mages do not fit that criteria.
RE: Obviously
# Mar 22 2003 at 12:43 PM Rating: Default
erm....are you on the design team at soe? whm....heres an idea....maybe, just maybe, it would be cool for class to be able to use an ability THEY DIDNT HAVE. wow. fascinating concept, huh?
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 25 2003 at 1:57 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Actually, Mages are teh suk. That's why SOE did feel like wasting the extra few clicks when making this ring. :)

cast time...
# Dec 07 2002 at 4:19 AM Rating: Decent
anyone with this know the cast time on it?
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 22 2002 at 11:02 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If Mages every get root then I want to be able to summon pets. Mages are different than wizards (duh) if mages got root then the only thing wizards could do different would be ports, oh and druids can do those so then wizzy's would be essentially nerfed.
RE: Mages should get root
# Mar 22 2003 at 12:47 PM Rating: Default
vym....giving mages a lvl 39?? root from ONE OF THE HARDEST ZONES IN THE GAME isn't going to unbalance things. wizzys will still far outdamage mages in short-term dps. you make it sound like mages have been given greater fetter from kurn's tower loot.

think, people!
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 24 2002 at 4:03 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) So being the most powerful magical damage dealers in the game means nothing? all they are is porters and rooters? I mean, its not like they are removing root from wizards, even if mages got root, do you really think ANYONE would prefer a mage over a wizard in a high end raid simply cus now they can root?
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 22 2002 at 9:45 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Aye your a bright one Chigga. Shows how smart you are. U must b a wizard 2 post a msg like this 1.

Woot! I totally agree! All I ever see on any item with root clicky is... why can't mages use this? /cry pfft... get over it they won't give you root, use yer pets and if they die... oh my you mean you can run away and once out of range cast another pet and return to kill them? wow what a concept. K I feel better.
Ranger
# Jul 14 2002 at 6:56 AM Rating: Default
had anyone thought of the possibility this opens for a ranger? The problems with a ranger's root spells are that they cause damage when they are cast. Using this ring, it would be possible for a ranger to snare/root/bow just about any monster to death. Granted it would take a very long time and would not work at all against healing monsters, but when you hit a monster with a bow, it does not summon you, as well as when you snare a monster it does not summon you and now with this ring, when you root a monster, it does not summon you. Granted, I'm NOT saying this items should go to rangers, far from it. It's a great ring for anyone who could use. BUT it does open up opportunities for rangers.

Just confused I guess at when you think mobs summon if they don't summon when they are snared/rooted. Since they do just that.
no mages
# Jun 08 2002 at 8:06 PM Rating: Good
hehehe notice all INT casters can use this cept mages infact all the classes listed already have root too bad because mages would have benefited from this item the most if they could wear it
Interesting item
# Jun 06 2002 at 12:23 PM Rating: Default
There are very few items out there that would go to a druid or a ranger "for the greater good of the guild". This might be one, however. It would allow either of those classes to root park without damaging a mob and triggering summoning.

Never played a wiz, so mabey i'm mising something here. The only thing your ring has over this is 1 int and weighs .9 less, iguess the weight save is important since you lose 8 str on it (sniker). 11 ac more and 40 more hps on this one, think a wiz might like this. I see wizzys all the time pull aggro cause they nuke for so much. This ring rocks. But then again I'm a shammy and and the sta boost and hps all equal mana to me.

My shammy would give his virtual right ******** for this one. The hot key would be right next to the one for my JBB.
Think about root rot now guys and gals:)

id definatly give up my imbued fire rings for one of these. immobilize manaless by its self even. clicky procs are the best toys in the game.
RE: i like my rings. . .
# Jun 06 2002 at 5:01 AM Rating: Decent
You forgot neg8 STR, which means Sol Ro wizzies are the only people i have seen whine about their weight issues except monks.

One of the goodies, and not the least to my mind on this ring is the mana free 2 seconds cast root.
this might save the **** of even the most uberest caster in given circumstances.

This is far better than Sol Ro ring. 8 INT wont make a big difference if your INT is 255, which can be an easy task to max.

In addition, it comes with 15AC 5 to all saves, and effect: immobilize.
agreed

And I don't even play a mage. Verant is a big group of party poopers.

# Jun 05 2002 at 6:42 PM Rating: Decent
Mages are not allowed to cast root, which I think is a rip btw. Why dont they just get it high level like necros do. Earth pet root sucks...wont root anything above level 35 hardly.

I'd love root - the major problem with a mage is that you have NO escape strategy (except run) if you are caught with your pet down. However, I have to disagree with the comment about earth pet roots - my (lvl 57) earth pet roots blue mobs fairly consistently (ie mid-40's) and if he is having trouble mal<whatever> can be used to help out.
I believe the lvl 65 earth pet root is a lure (ie almost unresistable).
